There was tension in the room. The air was heavy with the leftover smell of fear and desperation. The creak of the wood reverberated through the still room as I relaxed in my chair. My eyes fell on the sheet of paper in front of me, a hurriedly written report from one of my scouts. Lucas was no longer there. Anna had gotten away. In my head, the two names swirled like a tempest, and I sensed the beginnings of a rage that pleaded to be let loose.

"Useless fools," I growled, slamming the paper down on the desk. The scout in front of me was scared by the sound, his shoulders shaking and his head bent. "Your only duty was to watch for Lucas. And yet here I am, reading about his treachery on paper. Explain yourself."

The scout's words were a tangled mix of justifications as he stammered. "We didn't expect him to..."

"To what? To run?" I got up from my chair and let out a growl. "Lucas was never one to settle in one place, and you expected him to sit happily like a lapdog? You underestimated him. And now we've lost both him and the omega because of your stupidity."

The scout's silence was sufficient answer. I waved my hand dismissively, my patience at an end. I was left alone with my thoughts as he rushed out of the room. Just me and my rage.

"Anna." Like a curse, the name left my lips. My Luna, Amelia, was attacked by the little omega who tried to challenge me. She misjudged me, but she thought she could escape from me. They all did. As I paced the room, thinking about what to do next, a sneer formed on my lips. Her growth would be limited. I was going to put a reward on her head, but not yet.

"Mark!" My voice boomed across the hallway as I called out.

My beta appeared a few moments later, looking as grim as ever. "Alpha," he said, bowing. "What are your orders?"

"Send word to the allied packs," I ordered. "I want Anna found. Put up a reward for catching her alive." I paused, my grin increasing, and said, "As for Lucas, offer double for his head."

An understanding flared in Mark's eyes. "It will be done."

I stopped him as he turned to leave. "And Mark? Make it clear that I will be furious with anyone who protects them."

He nodded before disappearing down the hallway to carry out my orders. The situation weighed heavy on me as I leaned back in my chair. I couldn't help but be insulted by Anna's escape. Not only because of what she had done to Amelia but also because of what she represented. Her mark was more than just a sign. It was dangerous. A challenge to my power.

"You're brooding again," Amelia's voice stopped my thoughts.

I turned to see her standing in the doorway, the faint glow of the candles illuminating her frame. She was still healing from the injuries Anna had caused, and she looked pale. Her eyes were keen and her tone was warning. "Don't underestimate her."

I laughed, but the laughter was not funny. "Underestimate her? Hardly. She's merely an omega. She's no match for me, marked or not."

Amelia took a step forward, her face somber. "Oliver, she's not just an omega. That mark is connected to something old. Something strong. If you're not careful, it could be your downfall."

I got up and walked across the room to her. "My downfall? Don't be stupid. She's a scared little girl trying to escape her fate. And Lucas? He's a fool who's unsure about his loyalties. They're merely pawns in a game they cannot understand."

Amelia's lips formed a thin line, but she stayed silent. She knew better than to argue with me when I was like this. Instead, she turned to leave, her closing words hanging in the air. "Remember, Oliver. The marked are never truly alone."

Her warning gnawed at the edges of my awareness as I returned to my work. Alone, I let my mind wander to Anna. The fire in her eyes when she had stood up to Amelia. The defiance that had made her run. She was more than just a bother. She was a task. And I took problems seriously.

I spent hours choosing what to do next. The map in front of me showed several possible hideouts where Anna and Lucas might seek cover. I would send scouts to each one, ensuring everything was checked. They couldn't stay secret forever.

A knock on the door interrupted my thinking. "Enter," I ordered.

Mark entered with a grave attitude. "The messages have been sent. But there's something else."

"What is it?" I asked.

"There's been talk among the elders," he said slowly. "About the mark. They're... concerned."

I raised an eyebrow. "Concerned? About an omega?"

"About what she represents," Mark explained. "The mark is tied to prophesy. To power. If she's allowed to grow into it..."

I raised my hand to stop him. "She won't. I'll see to that personally."

Mark paused before nodding. "As you say, Alpha."

After he left, I leaned back in my chair, feeling the weight of the situation fall upon me once more. Anna might have been marked, but she was still just a girl. A girl who had made the mistake of betraying me. And I would make sure she paid the price.

"If she's marked, she's mine to break," I said to the empty room, my grin returning.

After days of journeying through the thick, unforgiving forest, the peaceful border town tucked away in the shade of rocky cliffs was a pleasant sight. I looked around the empty streets, observing the few people moving about, mainly wolves. My gut rumbled as the aroma of grilled meat and subtle spices filled the air from a nearby inn. Anna was strolling softly next to me, her eyes darting to every shadow as she held her blanket closely around her shoulders.I spoke quietly as I noted, "We'll rest here for a bit. We've been putting too much pressure."She gave a nod but stayed silent. Everything, including our escape and the threats that were still following us, had become too much to bear. She carried a lot of weight on her thin shoulders, as seen by her heavy silence. We were getting close to the inn when I smelled something familiar, and it stopped me cold. Instinctively, my muscles clenched, and my gaze moved to the group of men in the town square, standing by the well. They were i

Being unwilling was clear from the way his wide shoulders tensed up under his torn shirt and his fingers squeezed together at his sides. When he looked back at me, some of his face was hidden by the darkness. He asked, "What do you mean?" in a quiet voice.I sped up to keep up with him because I wouldn't let him avoid the subject. I answered, "You've been putting everything on the line for me," and my voice was shaking with anger and mistrust. "Running for your life after leaving your group and not following Oliver's orders." Is it your intention for me to believe that you are acting with pure intentions?"He came to a quick stop, and I almost ran into him. The hall reverberated with the sound of my boots hitting the chilly stone floor, a steady drumbeat to my increasing rage. With my Beta, Mark, standing rigidly in front of me and his eyes focused on the floor, there was a palpable sense of dread in the room. The meeting of the elders had fueled the storm that was building within me with their whispers of dissatisfaction.I started, "Weeks," my voice low but like a razor slicing through the quiet. "The traitor and the omega are still at large after weeks. Mark, tell me, is this treason or incompetence?"Mark's hands at his sides curled into fists as his jaw grew stiff. "Alpha, we've investigated every lead. The bandits in the western regions—""Failed," I yelled, hitting the massive wooden table with my fist. The elders recoiled, their muttering cut off. "All of the leads have fallen through. And now it is we who are being made fun of. Do you think the Moonstone Pack won't take advantage of this to make us weaker? To paint us as idiots?

Anna and I had been quiet for a long time, as tense as a bowstring about to break. Although she hadn't spoken it directly, her circumspect looks and terse answers revealed her suspicion, which hung over her like a shadow. After the mayhem I had pulled her into, I couldn't hold it against her. The widening gap between us, which I was unsure how to close, still worried me.After hours of walking, we finally came across the house. Its old wooden walls bent slightly, as though they were weighed down by the passage of time, and it was hidden under a canopy of overgrown trees. At least for the night, a safe haven. With a flat voice, as though she didn't care, Anna stated, "It looks empty." Instead of even looking at me, she scanned the woodland around her.I said in an indifferent tone, "Empty is good. We should check inside."She gave a nod, and we walked toward the cottage together. I pushed the creaking door open and saw a single room with a filthy table, a cracked hearth, and a rickety

The only sound in the room was the slight crackle of the fire Lucas had constructed earlier. Amidst the quiet, shadows moved erratically along the cabin walls. With my back to Lucas, I lay still on the makeshift bed of used blankets. At last, his respiration had evened out and decreased, showing that he was asleep.I opened my eyes.I just stared at the black ceiling for a long time, my mind racing. I continued thinking about everything Lucas had said earlier: that I was his fated mate, that he had admitted to being sent to Nightshade, and the hazy references to some task he was on. There was too much to take in. Too much to be true.I moved carefully, being mindful not to make noise. I was physically exhausted after the day's travel, but my chest ached more than my muscles did. I sat up slowly and looked at Lucas. His face was relaxed in his slumber as he lay on his side. He appeared vulnerable, even unguarded, for the first time. It stood in sharp contrast to the man who had put up

As I made my way through the thick underbrush, each foot strategically placed to minimize noise, the forest was strangely quiet. Long shadows that moved with the wind were created by the early light that penetrated through the canopy. Anna was instructed to remain in the cabin and keep the door locked until I got back. Although she hadn't argued, her cautious expression said a lot. This needed to be fixed. In some way.Scouting was a risk that had to be taken. The cabin's solitude did not ensure protection, and the howls we had heard the night before were not far enough away to be comfortable. We had to know if Oliver's warriors were drawing near. Every sound and change in the air was studied for danger, and my senses were constantly alert.I stopped as I heard a slight rustle to my left, and my hand automatically went to the blade by my side. My heart pounded, and I listened for anything other than the typical forest noises. A squirrel, its motions shockingly loud in the silence, dar

With my luggage draped over my shoulder and a weary but determined heart, I stood at the edge of the woodland. Beside me were Lucas and Maia, whose faces reflected mine: a mixture of resolve and melancholy.Cain came toward us, his eyes full of resolution but his face etched with fatigue. Although he had been among Oliver's most devoted soldiers, the insurrection had altered him. We were leaving him in control after he had fought with us and put his life in danger for the pack."Are you sure about this?" he said softly.I gave a nod. "Cain, you're the greatest option. You are trusted by the pack. They will follow you."He paused, his eyes darting between Maia and Lucas. "How about the three of you? Where are you going?""Somewhere new," was all I said. "A place where we can start again."Cain's face softened as he nodded. "You've done enough for this pack. More than sufficient. Go if this is what you need. We'll be alright."I said my

In the broken remnants of Nightshade's great hall, the firelight wavered, creating unsettling shadows on the stone walls. I had nothing left to offer the pack, but they continued to hover, perhaps awaiting guidance. There was still a weight in my chest. I didn't feel like I had won, even though Oliver was defeated and his rule was overthrown by the people he used to rule.Sitting next to me on a splintered wooden bench, Maia was looking off into space as she absently traced a scar over her arm. Ever the guardian, Lucas stood a few feet away, his gaze sweeping the still audience. After a long pause, Lucas whispered, "They need a leader." He spoke in a quiet, wary tone. "Someone to rebuild what's left."Slowly, I nodded. "They need someone," I said, then looked over at Maia. She stiffened as I stared at her. "Don't even think about it."I cocked my head. "Why not?"She gave a dry laugh, but it was devoid of any humor. "Becaus

The trumpet's call echoed through the broken remains of Nightshade, a sound that once sent fear rippling through the pack but now carried a different weight. A summons. A reckoning.I stood in the heart of the pack's gathering grounds, where months ago, I had watched Leo be condemned to death. My fingers tightened into fists at my sides as I forced myself to take in every detail... the stone platform, the lofty arches, the wooden beams above that had once felt oppressive. The torches flickered, casting long shadows against the walls, just like they had that night.Only this time, it wasn't Leo standing before the pack.It was Oliver. He was on his knees in the center of the hall, bound, his body battered and broken. Blood matted his dark hair, his once-imposing body slumped forward in exhaustion. The very warriors who had formerly battled under him stood around the perimeter of the hall, their gazes flitting between me and the fall

  • The Weak Omega's Redemption   Chapter 108: The Fall of a Tyrant Lucas POV

There was silence on the battlefield. The silence was not one that resulted from relief or tranquility. It was the thick, stifling type that comes after a storm, as though the world itself was holding its breath. The ground was covered in fallen people, and the air was heavy with the smell of smoke and blood. With a mixture of amazement and incredulity, the rebels who had survived the slaughter and were still standing glanced at Anna.Oliver was lying at her feet, immobile and broken. His burnt body stood out sharply against the blood-soaked ground below, and his once-imposing figure had now collapsed into a crumpled heap. He was not yet dead, but he was very nearly so. His chest rose and fell in weak, irregular spasms, and his breaths were shallow. With her shoulders heaving and her hands still burning dimly from the last of her power, Anna stood over him. Her hair was knotted and wild, and her face was stained with blood and filth, but her ey

All I could do was observe. My entire existence begged me to step in, step in, and support Anna as she faced Oliver alone. However, I was unable to.I shouldn't.This was her fight.Standing opposite Oliver, Anna's body was bruised and covered in blood, yet her unwavering will remained burning. I had never seen the raw electricity crackle in the air around her before. It was hazardous, untamed, and wild. There was nothing weak about the dim glow that flickered from her palms, like a fading ember. The ground beneath her boots seemed to be reacting to her, quivering in expectation of what lay ahead.Oliver rolled his shoulders and grinned as though this were merely a minor annoyance. I shuddered at his self-assurance. For so long, he had ruled by terror, destroying anybody who tried to oppose him. He now considered Anna to be simply another idiot who believed they could prevail. However, she wasn't.

The battlefield was a bloody, chaotic nightmare. The night was filled with screams as the rebels gave it their all in battle, but Oliver's forces were unrelenting and mercilessly defeated us. My muscles ached from the never ending battle, and I was breathing in ragged breaths, but there was no time to pause. Another life was lost with every second that passed.Maia was down.Across the field, I saw her fall, hitting the ground with a horrible crack. As I surged at her, avoiding an enemy's claws at the last second, my stomach knotted in terror."Maia!" I fell on my knees next to her. Her breathing was shallow, and blood was leaking from a deep wound along her shoulder. Her body trembled uncontrollably as she attempted to push herself up. "I'm fine," she rasped, but I could tell she wasn't."You're not," I said as I applied pressure to the cut. My palm was stained by the warmth of her blood, and my chest developed a hollow hole.Lucas s

Every breath was tinged with the weight of what lay ahead, and the night air was heavy with stress. The rebels' bodies were tense with expectation as they stood at the forest's edge, concealed by the thick undergrowth. The clearing where Oliver's fortress stood in the distance was stricken with weird shadows as moonlight seeped through the treetops. To steady myself, I shifted my weight and clenched my fingers into fists. I thought the others could hear how loudly my heart was beating.I heard a sharp crack to my left. I snapped my head in the direction of the sound, every muscle in my body tensing up.Beside me, Lucas stiffened, his hand already reaching for his blade. Maia froze, her sharp eyes scanning the shadows.Out of the darkness came two bright golden eyes. For a painful moment, I mistakenly believed it to be one of Oliver's scouts. "It’s almost time."It wasn’t just a statement; it was a reckoning. The kind of words that carried the gravity of everything we had fought for, everything we had lost, and everything we stood to lose. Even though he was trying so hard to hide it, I could detect the slight tremor behind his firm tone. It was the shudder of a man who was preparing for what was about to happen.I let out a breath and looked out over the area of land in front of us. As though the world itself were holding its breath for what was about to happen, the night was strangely calm. Tension permeated the air, the kind that caused your chest to tighten and your skin to prickle. Long, jagged shadows were cast over the assembled rebels by the orange glare of distant fires. As though they were restless too, the flames danced madly, reflecting the uneasiness that descended upon us all. With low murmurs and deliberate movements, the rebels moved in quiet tones. "This is a bad idea."Standing next to me and gazing at the man in front of us, Maia spoke sharply and crossed her arms. Every dissident wolf in the room was on full alert, and the tension was palpable. The stench of mistrust was nearly oppressive.Ronan, the man in question, stood still, his palms raised in a gesture of peace. He was a warrior who had assisted Oliver in enforcing his harsh reign and had previously been one of his top enforcers. He said that he had now turned against him.I did no trust him. However, I couldn't overlook what he had to offer. Ronan's voice was steady as he said, "I don't blame you for being wary. But raw power alone won't cut it if you want to defeat Oliver. You must be aware of what you're getting into.""And we’re supposed to believe you suddenly grew a conscience?" With his arms resting on his enormous chest, Cain scoffed.
