(First Elder's POV)

My face marred with a frown and my gaze lowered to the floor.

“What's wrong? Is there something else I must know about?” Doris' worried voice reaching my ears, shaking me out of my thoughts.

“It's about Snake's death, something isn't right about it.” I said, contemplating about his death.

From the onset, I had always thought it was unusual of snake to commit suicide and I must get to the bottom of it.

“Why would you bring up Snake's death now? We all know he betrayed me and because he couldn't face me anymore, he committed suicide, I think we should be concerned about my life right now.” She said, her voice slightly raised at me and her brows raised.

“I suspect that Snake's betrayal and his suicide have something to do with the royal family. That was so unlike Snake.” I said in a murmur, almost inaudible.

“Why would you think so? And why are you just telling me about it now?” She questioned, her face wide with rage.

“There was no evidence until yesterday, and I can

(Doris' POV)“The special Wolfsbane prompted him to betray you, Snake would never in his right senses do that to you.” The First Elder said in a shaky voice.I could not believe my ears, I've never heard about Snake's suicide until now. Nobody would talk to me about it, besides the fact that he betrayed me.“I'm sorry, I didn't know he had to go through this much, all for my sake.” My voice almost inaudible uttered.I rose from the seat, walked to where the First Elder was seated and placed a hand on his shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze.“He didn't just betray you, Doris. He betrayed me and the family, and it's all because of that King,” he cussed in a whisper. My lips twitched with rage at the sound of the King!“Everything would be fine soon, First Elder.” I assured him, but my heart wasn't satisfied. It doubted if my words were true, doubted how many more people have to die in my name.I am their leader, yet they die for me.“The Wolfsbane was too strong for Snake, and it w

(Doris' POV)A deep sigh swept through my lips and my head lowered to the ground after I watched the evidence video.“How are the warriors taking the news?” I asked with my head stilled fixed on the ground.“We are taking it exactly how we should. There's an uproar among us, and I think it would be better if you address us.” He responded firmly.I nodded. At least, I was the one who brought them out here to fight. They have entrusted their lives to me, but nobody would fight for a Pack that dishonored them, would they?“Tell the warriors to assemble, I'll address them in five.” I said with a frown, lifting my head to glance at him.“Yes, Master.” He bowed and exited the tent.“How dare the King treat us like nobody?” My fist clenched to my dress, my lips twitched. “I'll make you wish you had done something better, you stupid King.” I seethed and exited the tent. The warriors had gathered in front of my tent, their eyed filled with disturbed rage and several questions I don't think I m

Have my arm cut off?” He teased, laughing widely.“Or perhaps, have my head cut off?”“That might be a start for me.” I said in a serious tone, and the laugh on his lips faded.“Enough! I've had enough of your insults, woman.” He pointed a finger at me, his face red with anger.“Arrest them!” He roared, wagging his finger at his men.The depth of his stupidity reminded me of the King and caused me to snigger. How did he think he was going to defeat me?However, before I could make a move, Eason stepped in my defense.“You have to go through me to get her.” He said with his arms out to protect me and took a defensive stance. My eyes widely open in astonishment.“Didn't you say she's the Leader of the Reapers? Isn't she supposed to be the one to protect you?” One of them teased and laughed. He has a point, I'm supposed to

He sank himself on one of the chairs, looking at Eason who exited the tent.A few minutes later, Eason returned to the tent.“They are gathered outside the tent.” He mumbled to me.I took a quick glance at Jeoffrery and his high-level men, who had suddenly lost their mouths to a cat.“Let's go,” I said to Eason and we exited the tent.Murmurs from the warriors filled the air even when I stood in from of them to address them. I guess I was nothing like who they expected. But I love the disappointment and surprise on their faces when they find out a woman is the Leader of the Reapers.&l

Well, I would really love to save you that shame.” I smirked and turned to the confused warriors, whose eyes were glued on me.“Whoever wishes to back out would have to go through me first.” I added and Eason stepped further to take my place. He had done more than enough, they might all think I'm boastful because Eason got my back. Now is the time for me to prove myself worthy of being the Leader of the Reapers, and also to dismiss any doubts they have.“You've done enough. Allow me to do this.” I said to him, his eyes pleaded with me to reconsider, but my mind was made up.I stepped down to the fighting ground, all eyes shifted to Jeoffrery as if waiting for his permission to start.“Nobody wants to back out? I'll take that as a good news, then. Let's all head to the water front.” My lips twitched, and I was about to step

(Doris' POV)Many of the high-level warriors hesitated, some looked at me as though I was crazy, while some looked at me as though I had no sense of reasoning at all.But what the case might be, we have to win the war and uphold our dignity as a Pack.“Anyone at all?” I waved my hand in the air, hoping to see those who were ready to fight. But they were none.“Perfect! Then the downfall of the Werewolf Pack lies in your hands.” I uttered briskly with my brows twitched.I stepped down from the platform and headed toward when Eason was now standing so we could go protect the border defense line. Yet, a voice reached my ears, causing me to turn to its direction.“How sure are you in winning this war? We don't even know your strength.” His voice quivered, fear of death etched his face.My head shook gently in pity before giving him a response.“Yet, you call yourself a warrior. A warrior shouldn't be scared of war or death.”“Of course we know that, but we all have families. Families who

Having your warriors killed must have been so pleasing for you to see.” She whined in a hoarse voice.“You should take care of that. A lady is meant to talk like a lady,” I smirked my lips to a corner and rage marred her face. She slapped me hard across the face, which only made me laugh at her soft and easy it was to tease her.She clenched her fist tightly against her sword and looked at the warriors, pointing the sword at them.“Anyone of you wish for death?” She asked, and they all shook their heads, exchanging glances with each other.“Then bark an

After I claim your soul." My lips twitched and a straight look disdained my face."You were only lucky to save that warrior because I wasn't paying attention. Just luck, so stop the boasting." Her voice deepened with rage."Luck? At least, I'm not so unlucky like you nor your brother, Andrew." I whined and her face went red.Her fist tightened on the hilt of her sword for so long I thought she would actually snap the thing into two."How dare you?" She shrieked, an icy undertone to her voice.." how dare you?""How dare I tell you the truth?" I scoffed, enjoying every bit of riling her up. "But if I don't, who else is going to tell you? No one of course.""Don't push your luck, Doris. " She let out. Although her voice was cool and collected, I didn't fail to miss the anger that burned in her eyes. If she had

The day was fast spent, yet I was just waking up.I stretched my hand to the other side of the bed with my eyes still sleepy and half opened, but couldn't feel Xavier. I quickly opened my eyes and realized he wasn't on the bed with me and sat up.Suddenly, the door opened, gasping my attention. And there he was, holding a tray of meal, approaching the bed.“Good morning, sunshine.” He said in a sing-song tone, placed the tray on the bed and kissed me on the forehead.“Good morning to you too. What a pleasant surprise,” I smiled and sniffed in the aroma of the meal.I shut my eyes slightly for a minute and was mesmerized by it.“This better be nice.” I said and proceeded to take a bite.“How is it?” He asked when I chewed halfway, but my face turned into a frown and glared coldly at him.“Did you make this yourself?”“Yes, why? What's wrong?” He queried in a low tone, his eyes darting from the meal back to me.“It's amazing!” I

I waved at the Reapers to let him go while I laughed to my heart's content.“I'm sorry I couldn't meet you at the borderline.” Xavier turned to me and said after Barron left.“It's fine, I know you also have duties to attend to.” A smile spread on my face.“We would take our leave then.” One of the elders said, and they exited the room.“We should go home too,” I said to Xavier with my arms wrapped around his neck.He gently placed his hand on my waist and responded, “Sure.”I turned to the Reapers, who were still waiting for my instruction.“You all should rest, too. We all deserve it.” I said, my voice filled with pride of how we fou

This is a position I'm not worthy of.“Give the throne to Barron.......” I started, and all eyes fell on me, surprised. “I'm not worthy of the throne. Barron should be the 9ne to sit on it, not me.” I said, with my gaze lowered to the floor.“Good thing you know your place.” Barron snapped at me and I plucked up my chin to look at him.Seeing the hatred he had for me broke me heart more.“That won't be possible, Xavier. Even if you were dead or not the King's son, Barron would still have no place in the Palace. You were born to rule, and you ha

(Xavier's POV)Barron and I sat in the conference room, waiting for the elders. They had set up the meeting for us, to pick a new King.My heart pounded faster in my mind, thinking about everything. I wondered what kind of King I would become if I got chosen, and also how I would feel if I didn't get chosen. They were running late, but I understood the Pack was going through a rough time at the moment, which could be the cause. Barron kept glaring at me through the corner of his eyes, he had always hated.Maybe because I was an illegitimate son, but I won't be too bothered if I were him. That alone was a great disadvantage for me.After some more minutes of waiting, the door opened and the elders walked in one after the other. We both rose to our feet and bowed to greet them.“You may both have your seat,” the leader of the elders said after they had all settled down.“Thanks,” I mumbled and sat down.“I'm sure you both know the purpose of this meeting.” He started.“Can we then get t

(Doris' POV)My eyes welled for a reason I couldn't tell; whether about the King's death or the First Elder's death, I just couldn't place it.The First Elder must have blamed the King too for the death of Snake and killed me, while I trusted him with the King to be in safe hands. I wanted to come back to the Pack victorious and settle all grudges, but now, they are both dead.Case closed!Murmurs among the elders filled the air, I excused myself from them and exited the Palace. In front of the Palace, there stood the Reapers, some warriors, the two warriors who carried the First Elder's body and some curious Pack members who shot cold glares at me as I stepped out. They were scared to speak, but I could almost read their minds through their faces, it was so sad and bitter. I know they wanted to question me about the First Elder, but none of them dare say a word.“Carry the body, let's go.” I said to the warriors and turned to leave when a female voice stopped me.“The King?” She aske

(Doris' POV)“You should have never done it. All Snake had was you.”“And he was a sacrifice meant to be made, how could I not do it?” His voice dropped to almost a whisper, remorse crept in.My face softened and I halted, watching his moves. Who can tell, it might be another one of his numerous tricks to get new off my guard.“You have done too much evil already, why would you want me dead too?”“You have the guts to ask me that? Snake died because he was your follower, what more would bring me joy than your corpse?” He snapped, enraged and ready to strike again. He's right about that, Snake might still be alive if he wasn't serving me. Maybe some of them really died because of me, and it's all my fault, but I won't let them die in vain. I'll seek the justice that their souls deserve.I eased myself from the defense stance and looked at the First Elder. Even with being a Divine Wolf, he's still a piece of cake to me.And though I wanted justice for all he had harmed, a part of me sti

Why did you make me trust so much in you and turned out to be the evil I was up against?” I asked in a hushed tone, almost couldn't believe he could do such a thing to me.I had always seen him as a noble and honest man who wanted justice for those the King had wrong. Only God knows how many crimes he had committed that I knew nothing about.“I'm sorry, please forgive me.” He said out loud, bowing his head again.I beat my feet on the ground, filled with rage for the nonchalant apologies he was tendering.
