Emily’s POV

I sat there, staring at him, trying so damn hard to keep my face blank. To stop my throat from tightening, to stop the sting behind my eyes.

I wouldn’t let him see it.

I wouldn’t let him win.

Because God help me, I wanted to believe him. I wanted to believe every word he said…that he loved me, that he saw me, that this wasn’t just about sex. And for a second, just a second, I almost let myself feel it.

But I knew better.

I knew what happened when you let someone in. When you let yourself believe in love, in forever, in happy endings.

You got destroyed.

You got left broken.

I had been there before, and I swore I would never go back.

I forced a breath out and pushed back in my chair, standing up. “That’s enough, Cole.” My voice was calm. Cold. Like none of this mattered. Like I wasn’t shaking inside. “It can never work out between us.”

His face changed.

That flicker of hope in his eyes vanished, replaced by something raw, something wounded.

“Why?” he asked, his voice quiet b

Cole’s POVI stood there, staring at the door she had just walked out of, my chest rising and falling like I’d just been punched. No, not like…I had been punched.Right in the fucking heart. The office felt empty now. Cold. I ran a hand down my face, my breath coming out harsh. I still couldn’t believe what had just happened."I hate you."Her words played over and over again in my head, slicing through me like a goddamn knife."I can never love you."I cursed under my breath, slamming my fist against the desk. A sharp pain shot up my knuckles, but I didn’t give a shit. The physical pain was nothing compared to what was tearing me up inside. This was too much.I couldn’t fucking think straight.I turned on my heel and stormed out of the office, shoving the glass door open so hard it rattled. Eyes turned to me, wide with shock, but I didn’t care. I wasn’t in the mood for their pitying looks or whatever gossip they were already cooking up in their heads.Daniel, my P.A., rushed up to me

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   49: Midnight Reckoning

Emily's POV. The city was dead quiet by the time I pulled into the driveway. The mansion was ahead, cold and perfect, like nothing had changed. But everything had. My fingers ached from gripping the steering wheel too hard. My head pounded. My throat was raw from screaming inside the car for hours. I had driven with no destination, letting the empty streets swallow me whole. The city had blurred past in streaks of headlights and neon signs, but I barely registered any of it. All I knew was the crushing weight in my chest. The fire in my lungs. The echoes of my own voice screaming words I couldn’t take back. The radio had played song after song, and I had blasted the volume, hoping, praying, that the music would drown out the storm inside me. It hadn’t. The ache still sat in my ribs like a knife, wedged so deep I could barely breathe. I exhaled sharply and grabbed a pack of face wipes from the passenger seat. My hands were unsteady as I pulled one out and dragged it across my face.

Cole’s POVI woke up to a pounding headache, the kind that made my skull feel like it was being split open with an axe. My entire body ached, every muscle sore like I'd been hit by a truck. My mouth was dry as hell, my tongue thick, my throat burning from what I guessed was last night’s whiskey and the aftermath of vomiting. The air smelled different…stale, like old cigarettes and cheap air freshener. It was nothing like the crisp, clean scent of my penthouse. The sheets beneath me felt rough, scratchy against my skin, a far cry from the high-thread-count luxury I was used to.Something wasn’t right.I blinked against the dull light filtering in through the tattered curtains, forcing my vision to adjust. The ceiling above me was cracked, stained with yellowish watermarks. The room was small, walls slightly peeling, the air heavy with the scent of sweat and something greasy. And then I felt it.Warmth.Beside me.I turned my head, my heart skipping a beat as my gaze landed on the figur

Emily's POV.I woke up feeling restless. Not that I had slept much. The clock on the wall read 9:43 AM, but I had been up for hours, lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, my thoughts refusing to settle. The weight of last night still clung to me, pressing against my chest.I had said too much.I had gone too far.I knew it the second the words left my mouth, but I didn’t stop. I didn’t hold back. I had wanted to hurt him, and I had. Now, Cole was nowhere to be found.I sat at the kitchen counter, my fingers wrapped around a mug of coffee I had barely touched. The rich scent filled the air, but it did nothing to calm me. The silence in the house was deafening, and every time I glanced at the front door, a strange, uneasy feeling settled in my stomach.Where had he gone?I wasn’t going to ask.I had no right to.After everything I said to him last night, I should be glad he left. I should be relieved. He deserved better than to be constantly pulled into whatever mess was in my head. But

Emily's POV.Sunday was worse. If I thought yesterday had been bad, today was a whole new level of miserable.I woke up feeling like shit. Not physically…no, physically, I was fine. But my mind wouldn’t shut up. My chest felt tight, my stomach was weirdly unsettled, and the silence in the house was suffocating.Cole was still nowhere to be seen, and I had no idea what he was doing. No clue where he had gone. And I shouldn’t care.I shouldn’t want to know. But I did.The more I tried to push him out of my head, the more present he became. Every room I walked into reminded me of him. Every single thing I did felt empty, dull, pointless.I needed to get out.I needed a distraction. So I went to the gym.And that was my first mistake.I stepped inside, barely paying attention to the people around me. The sound of weights dropping, sneakers squeaking against the floor, and the occasional grunt of effort filled the space, but I wasn’t really listening.I just wanted to move.I was halfway a

Emily's POV.The ropes dug into my wrists, rough and unrelenting, but I didn’t flinch. The blindfold pressed against my eyes, blocking everything, leaving me with only the sensation of movement as the car sped down a road I couldn’t see. The gag in my mouth made it impossible to speak, not that I had anything to say.I had let them take me.Not a single struggle, not a single scream.I had just stood there, staring down the barrel of the gun, waiting. And when they grabbed me, when they yanked me away, I only looked back once…at the little boy, still frozen where I’d left him, his big, terrified eyes locked on mine.I had waved. Just a small, lazy wave. Nothing dramatic. Then they shoved me into the car, blindfolded me, tied me up, and now here I was.The drive was long. Longer than I expected. The engine rumbled, the tires hummed against the asphalt, but inside the car, it was silent. The men didn’t speak, didn’t joke, didn’t even breathe too loudly. It was all business.Whoever sent

Cole’s POVIt was past 11 PM, and Emily still hadn’t returned.I wasn’t supposed to care. She had made it clear…so damn clear…that she wanted nothing to do with me. That she hated me. That whatever we were, whatever could have been, was impossible. She didn’t love me. She didn’t even like me.So, I did what she wanted. I started avoiding her.At first, it was torture. Every time I saw her, it was like something sharp lodged itself in my chest, making it hard to breathe. But I forced myself to look away, to act like I didn’t notice the way she hesitated whenever she saw me. Like I didn’t see the way she would part her lips like she had something to say, only to shut them and walk away instead.I told myself it was for the best. She had made her choice. I was just respecting it.And then there was tonight. She had been in the gym, standing by the weights, looking like she was ready to lose herself in another exhausting workout. But then she saw me.And she stopped. She just stood there,

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   55: The Desperate Search

The Desperate SearchCole's POV.My wife was missing.I grabbed my phone and started calling people, but I still got the same response, no one knew where she was.I even called a few high-end hotels, assuming she might have booked a suite under an alias. Still, nothing.“Are you sure? Check again,” I snapped at the receptionist on the other end of the line, my patience wearing dangerously thin.“I’m sorry, sir. There’s no booking under that name,” she repeated.I hung up, jaw clenched so tightly it ached.Emily wasn’t the kind of woman who got lost. She didn’t make mistakes. If she wasn’t here, it was because she didn’t want to be found.Or worse…because something had happened to her.By noon, I was sitting in the police station, gripping the edge of the counter as I glared at the officer in front of me.“She’s been missing for less than twenty-four hours,” the officer said, barely looking up from his computer. “She’s an adult, sir. Maybe she just needed some space.”I slammed my hand

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   89: No Turning Back

Cole’s POVThe water was still now. Calm, undisturbed.A few hours ago, Emily had been swimming in that pool, her hair slicked back, droplets sliding down her skin. I was absent when she went out to swim but I knew exactly what she looked like. Now, the pool was empty. Just like the house. Just like me.I leaned against the balcony railing, gripping it tight. The clock on my phone read 11:07 PM. Four hours since she left. Four hours since her father had forced her to go.And I had done nothing.I exhaled sharply, running a hand down my face. The weight in my chest had been growing, pressing harder with every passing minute. Just standing here, waiting, doing nothing…it was killing me.Then…SCREECH!The violent sound of tires skidding against the ground snapped my head toward the gates. My entire body locked up.A car.A black Camry, speeding toward the estate like it had been chased by the devil himself. The guards rushed to block it, guns drawn…Then, suddenly, the passenger-side wi

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   88: Definitely Not A Damsel In Distress

Emily’s POVThe drive felt like a funeral procession, only I was the corpse being dragged to my own execution. The two female bodyguards sat on either side of me, their presence suffocating. I didn’t fight them anymore…not because I had given up, but because I refused to give my father the satisfaction of watching me struggle. But my hate? That was alive. Burning.I stared out the tinted window as the city blurred past, my nails digging into my palms. My father’s men drove in silence, the car’s engine the only sound in the stifling air. I could still feel the rough grip of those women on my arms, the way they had dragged me through the house, down the grand staircase, and into the car like I was a damn piece of luggage. My father had finally resorted to brute force.Typical.The car pulled up in front of an expensive restaurant…one of those exclusive places where rich men made dirty deals over overpriced steak and wine. The entire building screamed wealth, from the polished black exte

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   87: Glided Chains

Emily’s POVI sat on the edge of my old bed, my arms wrapped around myself, my nails digging into my skin. My body was still wet from the pool, my swimsuit clinging to me like a second skin, but I didn’t care. The cold air in the room did nothing to cool the fire burning inside me.Everything about this place made my skin crawl. The walls were the same dull beige, the curtains the same expensive silk my father insisted on. The chandelier overhead glowed too bright, the same way it had when I was a teenager locked in this house, suffocating under his rules.Four months. That was how long it had been since I left this place. Since I married Cole and walked out of here. And now I was back.Dragged here like a puppet in my father’s twisted game.I clenched my teeth, my jaw tight, my heart pounding so hard I thought it might break through my ribs. The fury inside me was a living thing, coiled and waiting to explode.I should have fought harder.I should have screamed louder, clawed at him,

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   86: Ripped Away

Cole’s POVI couldn’t breathe. She was gone.I stood there, fists clenched so tight my nails cut into my palms, staring at the empty driveway where the car had disappeared. My mind couldn’t process what had just happened. It felt like someone had reached inside my chest and ripped my heart out while I was still alive.Emily had walked away. Not because she wanted to. Not because she stopped loving me. But because she was trying to protect me.That thought made it worse.I ran a hand through my hair, pacing back and forth like a caged animal. My men were still there, waiting for my command. The tension in the air was thick, like it hadn’t settled even after Richard Hart had taken her. My own bodyguards had their hands on their guns, still on high alert.I should have stopped her. I should have grabbed her, thrown her over my shoulder, and locked every door in this damn house. But I knew Emily. She wasn’t someone I could cage, no matter how much I wanted to.I let out a sharp breath and

Emily’s POV“If Cole tries to stop me, there will be bullets in the air.”My father’s words still rang in my ears, making completely unsettled. And then, it happened.A gunshot.Loud. Sharp. My heart nearly leaped out of my chest as the sound tore through the tense silence, echoing across the courtyard. One of my father’s men had fired into the air, his grip steady, his face blank. For a second, everything froze. Then, chaos erupted.Cole’s bodyguards moved instantly, pulling their weapons with the precision of trained professionals. The men my father had brought with him did the same, their guns raised, their fingers twitching near the triggers. The air became charged, electric with the promise of violence. My breath hitched as I stared at the two groups facing each other, weapons drawn, ready to fire at the slightest provocation. One wrong move, and people would die."STOP!" I screamed, my voice cracking with panic. No one moved. My father stood tall, his expression blank, unmoved b

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   84: Father Vs Husband

Emily’s POVThe cool water wrapped around me like silk as I drifted on my back, staring up at the evening sky. The pool lights had blue shimmer, reflecting against the marble tiles of the mansion’s courtyard. It was quiet…peaceful even. For the first time in days, my mind wasn’t racing. No thoughts about Mateo Vasquez, my father’s ridiculous attempts at controlling my life, or Vanessa’s insanity. Just silence and the soft ripple of water. Then, I heard it.A commotion. Raised voices.I blinked, lowering my body into the water. My fingers clenched into a fist as I turned my head toward the mansion’s entrance. Something was happening.I swam to the edge of the pool, pulling myself up. My wet hair clung to my back as I grabbed a towel and wrapped it around myself. The voices grew louder, and I caught sight of multiple black SUVs parked in the driveway. The headlights were still on, casting long shadows over the garden.Men in suits. Guns strapped to their sides. My father’s men.And the

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   83: Mateo Vasquez

Cole’s POVMateo was about to learn that power meant nothing when you had no control.I sat in the backseat of my car, parked a block away from his hotel, scrolling through the latest report on Vanessa. She was still on the run, slipping through every crack like a damn ghost. This morning, I’d gotten an update…Vanessa had killed a police officer. Slit his throat right there on the road, like it meant nothing. But what caught my attention more? She wasn’t alone.A man was with her.Ronan.From what I’d gathered, he wasn’t some criminal mastermind or hired gun. Just a guy who had made the mistake of getting tangled up in Vanessa’s mess. Maybe he thought he was helping her. Maybe he had no idea who she really was.Didn’t matter. He was shielding her now, and that made him a problem. But Vanessa could wait. Tonight, I had something else to handle.Mateo.…7:00 PM.Mateo walked into the hotel like he owned the city.Four bodyguards surrounded him as he strode across the marble floors of t

Vanessa’s POVThe rain pelted against the windshield as we sped down the empty highway. The motel was miles behind us, swallowed by the darkness, but my pulse was still racing. Ronan’s hands gripped the wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white. The only sound was the tires skidding slightly on the wet pavement and the low hum of the engine.I sat in the passenger seat, my hoodie pulled low over my face, my fingers drumming against my knee. The air inside the car was thick, tense. I could tell Ronan was pissed. He hadn’t said a word since we left.Fine. I didn’t care.I stared out the window, my mind still burning with the same rage. Emily. Cole. They were all that mattered now. I wasn’t going to spend the rest of my life running like some helpless little girl. • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   81: Moving Again

Vanessa’s POVThe motel was a dump.Peeling wallpaper curled at the edges, revealing dark stains underneath. The carpet was stained with things I didn’t want to think about. The whole place reeked of old cigarettes, mildew, and cheap beer, the kind of filth that clung to your skin no matter how hard you scrubbed. The bed creaked under me as I shifted, the springs groaning in protest.Ronan had made me disguise myself before we even got close to this hellhole. He had taken scissors to my hair, hacking off just enough to make me look different. I had nearly clawed his eyes out for that. Then he shoved an oversized hoodie at me, one that drowned my frame, and told me to wear it along with a pair of cheap sunglasses. The final insult was a baseball cap he tossed at me like I was some runaway teenager instead of Vanessa Kings.I used to wear couture. Silk, cashmere, the kind of fabrics people only dreamed of touching. Now I was drowning in polyester and denim that didn’t fit. My nails dug
