Lyra dug her fingers into her hair in frustration as she paced around the entrance of the station. It turned out it wasn't just a mere threat and her father had really kidnapped Auntie Josie. Even her family had been looking for her and they were all currently running helter-skelter in search of her.
She had come to the station to report her disappearance hoping to let the cops into the situation. But she wasn't really confident about them as she was well aware that even though the Sean Family was on the verge of bankruptcy, they were still quite an influential family and could well manipulate the police.Just then, her phone which was in her bag vibrated. She paused in her pacing and brought it out. When she saw the Caller ID, her eyes flashed and she quickly picked it up.A curt female voice sounded from the receiver. "Z, are you there?""Yes, I am," Lyra responded anxiously. "How is it? Did you get what I asked you to check?"The person on the end was quick to reply but her voice sounded disappointed. "I'm sorry, Z. I tried but I can't seem to find the right place. You know, City M isn't really our turf. We have limited access to that place as it is also that guy's territory."Lyra was quiet but disappointment oozed out of her in bulk. She replied, "Okay. Thank you for your help, Mac.""Okay." Mac paused but said again, "Z, how about you get YX's help? You know hacking is his turf. He should be able to find her.""But..." That guy was on hiatus and had disappeared."You do remember that only a rook will believe that YX is on hiatus and has disappeared completely. I know you can find him. You're the only one he ever listens to. He'll definitely help you," Mac added, before saying goodbye and disconnecting the call.Lyra looked at the phone's interface thoughtfully for a moment before decisively clicking a number on speed dial. The call began to ring but it went on for a long time without a reply. The moment the female mechanical voice sounded, she lowered her head in disappointment.Just then, there was a car horn behind her. She quickly stepped away thinking she was on the road but the driver continued to sound the horn. When she looked back, a young man stepped out of the car hurriedly and approached her. Lyra was immediately alert. The man also seemed to notice this so he maintained a good distance away from her as he spoke, "Hello, Ms. Sean."Lyra quickly backed up, surprised as she was not expecting him to know her name. She regarded him doubtfully as she was already expecting her father to try and do anything to keep her from running off his tight reins."Who are you?"Her tone was a little rude but the other party didn't seem to mind and instead fished out a business card from his pockets. He handed it to her."I'm the assistant of the Chairman of XL Globals," he said.Lyra raised a brow. XL Globals? The same internationally renowned one? Why was the Chairman's assistant looking for someone like her?At that thought, she couldn't help but recall something. The name of the Chairman of XL was King. It was similar to the surname of the man her father wanted to force her to marry. Could it be...The man continued, seeing the questioning look in her gaze. "Our Madam would like to speak with you so I'm here to invite you to have an audience with her tomorrow at Night Glow Cafe."Lyra twirled the business card in her hand and asked, "Madam?""Yes," he replied. "Our Chairman."Lyra pursed her lips thoughtfully. Such an opportunity to meet the leader of such a big business was actually too good to be passed. But she simply had no time to deal with such things for now. There was a life at stake. So she shook her head trying to pass the card back to him. But he didn't take it and instead said, "You can take your time to consider it. Whatever you decide will be respected by us."Without another word, he returned around, entering the black luxury car again. He looked as though he was fleeing from a crime scene. After the car drove off, Lyra twirled the card in her hand thoughtfully. She suddenly had a thought and brought out her phone to browse the net. She was going to search for the King family. What she saw made her open her mouth in shock. Although she had already made an inference that they might be the same person but she didn't expect them to really be. They were the same people who got the deal with her father.Could it be the Madam wanted to urge her to get married to her son which was why she wanted to see her? She clicked her tongue in distaste as she fiddled with the card before whipping her hand intending to throw it away. But at that moment, she suddenly had a thought and halted. Her eyes glinted as she seemed to have had a sudden epiphany.Since they wanted to convince her, she could also do it in her own favor. Two could play a game. This time around, she won't be dealing with her scheming father but the other party instead. She whipped out her phone and called the number on the card. It only took a few moments to ring before it was answered. She heard that man's voice sound immediately. "Hello?"Lyra coughed. "Hello, it's Lyra."Almost immediately, she heard the shuffling of feet and the man sounded surprised, "Ms. Sean?""Yeah.""I thought you said..."Lyra cut him off as she spoke, "Yes, I considered your proposal. I would like to meet your Chairman."The man seemed taken aback initially but he quickly responded, "Okay, I'll relay your message to her.""But, I'd like to meet her today. Is that possible?" Lyra said, stopping by the side of the road. There was a life at stake and she could not wait even one more minute for it to be settled. He was quiet for a moment before speaking up again, "Kindly hold on for a few minutes for me to check your request with the Madam."Lyra had no problem with that and within one minute, the man returned to the call."I've spoken with the Chairman. She can meet you by 4 pm on dot at the same address."Lyra immediately breathed a sigh of relief. "Okay, thank you. It'll be there early."This time she wasn't going to be led by the nose anymore. She was going to take charge of the situation. When Lyra walked into the high-end cafe later that evening, she was quick to recognize the Madam of the King family. She was seated in one of the window seats and the cafe was fairly deserted anyway so it was quite easy to find her among the people. As she stared at the woman seated taking a sip of what she supposed was coffee, Lyra had a hard time believing that this was indeed Ronan King's mother. She didn't seem like any middle-aged woman who had a grown-up son and instead looked like she was in her early thirties. She was quite beautiful and elegant. Her expression was also calm and even from the angle Lyra was she could tell that she wasn't a person easy to deal with. But she was already prepared for that anyway. She strode quickly toward her but didn't immediately take a seat. Instead, she greeted, "Hello. Are you Chairman King?"The woman quickly looked up in surprise before bearing a wide smile on her face. "You're here." She regarded Lyra carefully before saying, "You look e
Lyra jerked and turned in her sleep uneasily. Balls of sweat that had gathered all over her face and neck rolled down chin in buckets, soaking her nightwear and quilt. Her brows were furrowed, eyes drew tight as she wiggled on the bed uneasily. She was having a nightmare. In her dream, she was in a deserted subway and roaming listlessly. "You will have to do what I tell you, Lyra. I am your father and I have a right to decide what is good for your future!" Richard Sean proclaimed anxiously with a tough expression on his face as he pointed at her. He looked as though he was going to cough up blood anytime soon with how angry he seemed.Lyra could not help but scoff. She had truly guessed right. Even after more than three years, her father had still never changed. He was still that same profiteer who would be willing to do anything just to get what he wanted his hands on. He was the first slimy and disgusting bastard she had ever met in her life and he had ruined all her expectations of men.She stood with her back straight and her chin tipped up as she looked directly at him. "No, I won't marry him."Richard seemed to have just heard the most ridiculous words ever. He flared up in anger as he pointed at her angrily. "You...unfilial brat!
