“IT WAS truly a pleasure working with your brother. He will be deeply missed,” Elliot said.
Out of the hundreds of children that were brought in the Dela Torre residence, only Terrence and I were the ones allowed to inherit the surname. The first lesson that Leonel Dela Torre, the former King of the Hunters, taught us was to get rid of our human emotions. We were raised not as humans, but as robots, who could only move based on his commands.
We were the seniors’ possessions. They were our owners. The only way you could get to own yourself was to rise to the top. That was the reason why Terrence and I strived to be better than anyone else. And we achieved that. In the end, we were acknowledged as Leonel’s children and became members of the family we hated.
We were sick of the rules. And yet, we follow them because once you get inside the Hunters’ territory, there will be no way out for you.
Others who tried to seek freedom were branded as traitors. And traitors, for the seniors’ vocabulary, had no space in the world.
Terrence and I had to be strong in order to protect our friends. That little authority we gained as Dela Torre had saved them especially Lilia from being harassed by the male seniors.
But my twin and I could not simply get rid of our heart, of the only thing that reminded us that we were humans and not somebody else’s tools to acquire revenge. And so, we learned to mask our hearts instead, while planning for a way to break free.
And after seeing evidences of Terrence’s death inside the Vampire’s City, now was the time to practice what I was taught especially since there were many eyes watching my every move.
I stared at the pictures one last time. We could not even get my brother’s body. Now I understood why I had been feeling restless lately. I swallowed hard.
“It’s the Vampires. They did it again,” I heard the seniors murmuring.
No. My brother did not die from the Vampires’ hands. I was sure of that. They will not shoot him outside the castle. They will take him in first and interrogate him in front of Zachary before killing him. And no Hunter would have heard of his death. The Vampires were too furious with the Hunters that they would not think that bullets would suffice. Not to mention that they were still old souls. They would either use their swords on him or end his life with their bare hands.
This was not the Vampires’ work. It was the Hunters.
There was a traitor inside the guild. I knew all that and yet, I could not say it. For years, I had to tear up pieces of my own heart for these bastards. And now, I had to do it again.
Even if I hold the highest position in the guild, the seniors still had the power to crush me. I was not even sure anymore if I had another ally here aside from Lilia. I cleared my throat. It took all of me to stand up as if nothing happened.
I was dying inside. And yet, I smiled when all I wanted to do was just to slam the table and kill every single Hunter here except for my best friend.
“What can we do? Life goes on,” I told them as casually as possible. “Nothing has to change. We will still proceed with the plan. Prepare for war. We will strike back in two weeks.”
The seniors had victorious smiles on their faces. The sight was filling every single cell in my body with rage.
After a while, the Hunters all replied in unison, “As you command, our Queen.”
“But do you honestly think that we can pull this off? Forgive me for saying this. I know that the seniors were the ones who chose the Queen and I do respect their opinion, but can she really lead us to war this early? I mean she had not been in contact for years and had served the enemies instead,” Maximo complained.
He was six years older than me and was already in the Dela Torre residence when Terrence and I arrived. Since he was a few years ahead of us, he was already a third level Hunter and took great pride in that. I heard Leonel was supposed to choose Maximo as his successor since he was the fastest kid to reach that level, but that changed because of Terrence and I.
We had surpassed Maximo’s level after only two months of joining the guild. Together, we reached the fifth level which was almost the same as the levels of those who were decades older than us and had been battling against the Vampires. Since then, Maximo and his troop had hated us for ruining his chances of becoming the next ruler.
Maximo scoffed. “No offense meant, my Queen. I was only stating my concern about the guild. I still believe that this job is not for women. You had been so used living as a servant. I’m not even sure if you still know how to use a gun!”
His troop behind him did their best to stop laughing, but I could still see their shoulders moving. They covered their mouths but their eyes betrayed them.
I glanced at the wine glass Maximo was holding. He seemed to be in a good mood to celebrate tonight that he even brought the entire wine bottle inside the conference room while everyone just had a goblet of water in front of them.
My own glass broke which made my hand bled, but Maximo just shrugged as he continued to mock me with his eyes. Each time Maximo would hinder us, it was always Terrence who used to deal with him. It was not that I didn’t dare fight him. I just thought that I didn’t need to prove myself to him any longer since I had exceeded him already.
“Do you know why I never said a word every time you are being an asshole, Maximo? If you thought I was afraid, then you had been extremely arrogant.” I copied the same word he used on me and added, “No offense meant, but how could a level eight hunter like me fear the likes of you who are stuck in the fourth level? It was just that I thought you weren’t worthy of my time. Even looking at you is a waste of time already. And unlike you, I have so much to do. But since you are my subordinate now, whether I like it or not, I have to waste my time talking to you,” I told him before I threw the broken pieces at him and at the bastards behind him.
All four of them were hit. In an instant, Maximo coughed up blood. The shard got stuck in his tongue since I tossed it right before he sipped his wine. The rest of the guys behind him suffered worse. Their eyes bled.
“Do you see the difference now? I am not just any woman, Maximo. I am a Queen, your Queen.”
I TOOK a step closer to Maximo, patted his shoulder, and whispered in his ear. “I may have forgotten how to use a gun, but I haven’t forgotten how to kill, Maximo. So, consider this your lucky day. Since I’m still mourning, I don’t feel like killing anyone today. Through this, I hope you could stop worrying uselessly about your Queen. Worry about your tongue instead. Better yet, just give all your concern to your friends who could lose their eyesight any moment.”I glanced at my wristwatch and yawned. “This is exactly what I am talking about. I had already wasted three minutes of my time. If only you are wealthier than me, I would have asked you to compensate me for those minutes wasted. But since you cannot afford my time, I would be considerate just this once. If you test my temper again, you will lose not only your tongue, Maximo. It’ll be your heart the next time around. So, if you can’t beat me, at least, don’t annoy me. Do you understand?”Maximo’s eyes looked at me with absolut
WHEN Zachary’s authoritative green eyes glanced at the audience, they began screaming his name. Nevertheless, he subdued everyone to obedience with just one look. And he knew it. He knew the impact he had on people. The host and the crowd, had become his fans in an instant. They were silenced just like what Zachary wanted. And I was sure that the humans watching at home had been like that, too.My hands instinctively went to my stomach as a bitter smile formed on my lips. ‘Baby, that’s your Daddy.’“Many people had been curious about you for such a long time, Mr. Collins. What made you decide to finally reveal yourself to the public?” the host asked when she recovered from fangirling.Zachary looked straight at the camera and said, “I’m looking for someone.”The host gasped. I did, too. Fear started to crawl back into my system as I watched how Zachary’s eyes glowed mysteriously. But that person couldn’t be me, right?I was only a secretary. I was a nobody in the city. The King would
I SNIFFED. “That can’t be true. You hate me, don’t you?”“I wanted to hate you for leaving your King behind, but I couldn’t,” Zachary replied tenderly.“Weren’t you looking for me to punish me? To kill me?”A smile played at the corner of his lips. “You are still so naïve, Kate. Didn’t you know? There are many ways to punish someone without killing them. One of them is this,” he added as he pushed me down the bed. When he snapped, in a blink of an eye, I was no longer wearing anything. And when I felt my cheeks turning red out of embarrassment, he smirked before he ran his tongue over my neck. “Damn,” he whispered, his breath was hitting my ear. “Had I known that this was the best way to stop you from crying, I would have stripped you naked as soon as I saw tears falling down your cheeks.”I had a system error that night. What happened between me and the King was nothing but a system error on my part. That was what I had been telling myself again and again after discovering that I was
I HAD no idea how to stop this dream. But first, I need to get away from Zachary. I ripped his coat to free my hands and was about to push him away when he held me.Fury was visible in his eyes when he said, “Where do you think you are going? Will you escape again? It’s too late for that, Kate.”And then he pushed himself inside me. Against my better judgement, I found myself closing my eyes while embracing him as he took me again.“Open your eyes, Kate, and tell me the truth. Why did you leave? Where is this place? Where can I see you again?” he asked while thrusting. “If you don’t answer, I swear I will keep going.”I shook my head and just moaned when he bit me on the shoulder. It was harder this time, but just as gratifying. He kept asking, but I bit my lower lip and refused to answer. I saw the mixture of frustration, pleasure, and wrath in his eyes, but he could not seem to stop himself from moving on top of me.And then suddenly, I felt my ring finger burning. When I glanced at
OH, RIGHT. I almost forgot. There were a couple of things which Kate left in my room. Her broken glasses, her ripped clothing, the blood on the bedsheet, her lingering scent, and the memories that haunted me until today. It kept playing in an endless loop in my head.I could still remember every single thing that happened including Kate’s smile which was a rare occurrence since that was the first time ever I saw her smile at me while calling for my name again and again. I liked the sound of my name from her lips. And I didn’t know this before but Kate was the loveliest person in the world when she smiles. No one would be able to forget that smile once they had seen it.Each time I would close my eyes, I could still see the countless lovely things she kept hidden… including the dot under her left eye which I found really sexy and those perfect curves. I could still remember the softness and the warmth of her skin, the pleasant sound she makes when she moans, the way her body shivered a
(Damon)FROM a nameless Knight, I had seen Zachary rose to the throne and conquered the Rogues and his own people. When he was still serving as the General of the Army, the Vampires were more frightened of him than Valentino Gregory, the kind and compassionate King whom we served with all our hearts, may his soul rest in peace. The Knights who had been with His Majesty in the battlefield, who had seen him go to war against Rogues countless of times, would flinch just by seeing his brows furrow. He was famous not only for his strength and power, but only for his mood swings.Because when his mood swings strike, he could send people flying. And that same person whom everybody feared was currently suffering from lack of Kate Morelli. I grinned at the thought.I could still remember how the entire castle shook when the King found out that his favorite human was gone. We knew we were not going to die from the quake, but the aftershocks that followed were more than enough to give us heart a
“I DON’T do love, Damon. And have you forgotten? It’s women who fall in love with me. It’s never the other way around,” His Majesty replied after a few seconds of silence. He was saying that while staring at the fountain pen which Miss Morelli had given him last Christmas. The noble families and the other guests had given him things which were far more expensive than that, things that were custom-made to fit his taste. He had received tons of gifts that storing them in just one room was not enough. The rest were stored in the garage and in the farm since they were either cars or horses. And yet, he had given the gifts to his subordinates. We were free to choose what we wanted among them. Of course, I chose the sports car for myself. Tau and I even competed for it since the King had a rule that whoever would put their hands on the gifts first, they would be the lucky ones to have it.Tau rushed in the garage when he found out about the car. It was the first time I saw him ran that fast
I THINK His Majesty was about to tell me more about his beloved Miss Morelli when we were interrupted by the guard.“Pardon my intrusion, Your Majesty. The royal physician and the captain of the guards are here and are requesting to see you.”The King and I threw a quick glance at each other. It was unlikely for Doctor Juno to visit unless there was an urgent matter.“Let them in.”Not long after and Doctor Juno arrived along with Tau. Both of them had serious expressions. No, scratch that. Actually, they looked shaken which was odd and they were sweating buckets. What just happened?“Greetings, your majesty,” both of them said as they kneeled on the floor and lowered their heads. His Majesty’s brows scrunched. “I told you to skip that when it’s just us. Now stand up and get straight to the damn point. Why are your faces like that?”“Your Majesty, after checking the Hunter King’s body, we discovered something that requires your immediate attention. And we would like you to see it,” Do
