Jeong’s POV

I found my two night guards hiding in the kitchen rolling dice. I let out all my pent up frustration in their direction while I lectured about deserting their post. They quickly started defending themselves claiming they only came into the kitchen to grab a quick bite to eat. “You think your hunger justifies leaving everything completely unguarded?”

My anger is getting the better of me and thought of the most fitting punishment. I now have them standing in the hallway on either side of my office door and a tray of fifty rolls each. “Since you were so hungry to leave your post together at the same time. You will each finish these rolls before day break. If you so much as toss one away or unable to finish all before the time limit, you will have to start all over again from square one.”

They act like this is a joke and not a punishment. I caught one of them rolling their eyes as they both grabbed a roll i

Rae’s POV Morning came as we all sat and waited silently. The hours ticked away slowly. It’s almost noon and still no sign of them coming to feed us. I notice the women are all acting tense, some are rather aggressive. I can’t help but wonder if it has something to do with the drug that’s in the food. A couple hours later two guards showed up and began scooting the trays of food and water under the cell door. As soon as they were within the cell all the women ran up like hungry beasts fighting each other for the food. I’ve never seen any of them act this way before as I sat there in shock. Looking over at those two guards I can tell they were just as shocked as I was. When all food and water was gone, all the women began acting normal again and went into their respective areas of the cell. Nothing, no bread nor water was left. I see the two guards attempting to pick everything up, but I noticed they seemed to strug

  • The Unwanted Chance   Chapter 20: Safety Net

Jeong’s POV I watch her eyes slowly open and can see her narrow her eyes slightly looking towards my feet. Her eyes quickly open as she sat up in a panic pushing herself against the wall in front of me. She’s trembling while she looks around the room in shock. Have I really done something truly awful towards her to warrant this reaction? Then I remember Zviad and his father, they must have done something last night. I cast a chain around her wrists, I can tell she is about to go into a panic attack. Her chest is rising and falling rapidly, eyes wide, trembling and completely terrified. I don’t know what to say to calm her down, I’m not here to hurt her. I just want her safe. I close my eyes and take in a deep breath before opening them again looking at her. “Please, I need you to calm down.” Her breathing stops. Still sitting there wide eyed but frozen stiff not adverting from my gaze. “I wont hurt you. I promise.”

  • The Unwanted Chance   Chapter 21: Second Dream

Rae’s POV Left alone. It’s quiet. The chill of the concrete floor running up my legs. Looking at the barrier, I can’t help but wonder if this truly is safe. I feel like a prisoner. What wrong have I done? I didn’t ask for this. Why am I being treated like this? Why are all the women being treated the way we are? I drape the blanket around myself and huddle down into the corner pulling in my legs and feet trying to get warm. Maybe this is better. Less people means I can practice more. I listen for a moment and hear nothing. I take in a deep breath and begin casting orbs and dismissing them. It’s almost second nature to me, at least I feel confident about casting them. Now, how do I use them? Sitting here for a while looking at a light floating in my hand I start wondering what to do with it. I remember those two guards concentrating a lot trying to move theirs but the way Jeong and Zviad used their powers seemed eff

  • The Unwanted Chance   Chapter 22: Shattered Safety

Rae’s POV I wake up to footsteps coming down the hallway. Still feeling tired I force myself to sit up rubbing my eyes awake. Is it morning already? Letting out a yawn and rubbing my eyes one last time but stop when complete and utter terror shoots through my body. Opening my eyes I see Zviad on the other side of the cell bars staring me down. A wolfish grin spreads across his face “Found you.” Going into a panic I shoot back against the wall slipping on the straw under me. All I can do is grab the blanket clenching it against my chest. Anything to hide myself from this man. His gaze makes me feel naked and his smile makes me fear what he would do to me. I see him scowl and the barrier before he laughs with a grin. I watch as he pulls out a small disc like object from his pocket. Flipping the disc through his fingers he looks at me “If he thinks he can keep you safe wit

  • The Unwanted Chance   Chapter 23: First Step Under the Sky

Rae’s POV Jeong is leading me around this place. If I ever tried to escape I’d be so lost. He’s leading me to an open door making my eyes flinch at the blinding light. “Where are you taking me?” I hear him let out a sigh “The Hunt is about to begin.” Once outside my eyes begin adjusting to the light. As I look up I see the expanse of the blue sky littered with fluffy white clouds. A gentle breeze caresses my face as my hair flickers tickling my nose. I notice two strange cage like structures. They are floating a couple feet off the ground. Each cage holding half of the women from the cell. There is a high wall and buildings surrounding us. Jeong tugs me towards the last cage taking off the rope and motions me to climb inside. It was difficult to climb inside. Even though the cage wasn’t far from the ground, the floor of the cage reached my mid chest. I wouldn’t consider

  • The Unwanted Chance   Chapter 24: My Escape

Rae’s POV I wonder how much time we’re given as I quickly make my way through the thick brush beneath the trees. I end up stepping on a rock wincing in pain as I stop to see the damage. I have light cuts on the bottom of my feet. I never liked being barefoot, maybe they did this so we couldn’t get far away. I wont let that stop me and pushed forward. The terrain is getting steeper and there are more rocks and larger ones at that. I can hear what sounds like water. After pushing myself further around a bend I found a crystal clear stream. I scoop the water up in my hands and take a drink, it’s cool and refreshing. Maybe I should clean my feet some hoping I don’t get an infection. While rubbing my feet in the water I notice the shackle on my ankle, it has a blinking green light. I don’t remember there being a light before. Staring at it all of a sudden it dawns on me. They are tracking me. Terrified, I realize my dis

  • The Unwanted Chance   Chapter 25: The Hunt Begins

Jeong’s POV Looking down at my wrist I can’t help but feel slightly annoyed at the securely placed tracer. The tracers are meant to link together to initiate the bonding ceremony once the chosen target is acquired. At least all the formalities are out of the way and I’m sure no one else besides Zviad dares to challenge me for her. I find myself walking to one of the windows watching the landscape move underneath. It amazes me how a structure as big as this stays floating in the air. Artifacts are truly surprising. An all to familiar voice pulls me from my observation. “You think you can claim her?” with a voice laced with anger. Turning around Zviad is standing tall glaring at me arms crossed. I cant help but let out a chuckle. “I don’t think, I know.” It’s a pity we are restrained from using our powers against other competitors otherwise it would disqualify us from claiming a woman. But that

  • The Unwanted Chance   Chapter 26: Terrors Edge

Jeong’s POV Searching more I finally found another set of footprints that lead into the water facing up stream. I decide to follow the stream looking for any signs of her exit. After a good twenty minutes I still have yet to find any indication she left the water. I’ve been checking my tracer on and off this whole time for her light. I know it’s not her, if she managed to take it off she wouldn’t put it back on. That’s when I noticed her light went off, Zviad must have found her tracer. Worry reaches me when I find myself in front of a huge cliff side that goes straight up the side of the mountain. Water is jutting out of the cliff like a waterfall into the stream. There must be an underground lake that feeds it. Turning around I begin running back the way I came. There must be something I missed. Where did you go? I stop to lean against a large rock catching my breath. Looking up at the sky I can’t help but wonder

Jeong’s POV The thought of relaxing was cut short when Jeffrey continues to sit there waiting for everyone to leave. He really isn’t going to let this go now is he. Only Jeffrey, Gerald and I are left in the room. Jeffrey lifts an eyebrow motioning to Gerald expecting me to ask him to leave. “There are no secrets between Gerald and I. Whatever you intend to speak about can be said in front of him.” “Very well.” Jeffrey sits up looking at me square in the face. “What is your real purpose? You can’t expect me to believe it’s just to train them for a potential scenario. I went along with it because I know you’re a man with a purpose. Now tell me what is really going on here.” This man holds a lot of weight, if he changes his mind it will severely hurt our cause. “I hope you don’t think I would purposely start a war and put everyone in danger.” “Your reputation suggests otherwise, but one has to

  • The Unwanted Chance   Chapter 73: We Need Defense

Jeong’s POVBefore we started on the subject of training a knock was heard at the door. Gerald quietly got up and opened it. When I saw it was Jean with a cart full of food, “Let’s take a break and enjoy some refreshments before continuing.” The tense air almost instantly lifted as everyone relaxed into their seats while they began chattering with one another.I watched as Jean made her way to the opposite side of the room but then someone caught my eye. Rae is standing dumbfounded at the door. She asked Gerald something, but I couldn’t make it out. Gerald just laughs as he waves her off before coming to take his seat next to me. I want to say something to her but end up just watching her as she places the trays of food onto the table. When she comes close I was about to reach out and grab her hand, but pulled away before doing so. What if she makes a scene? What if I loose my composure?Sti

  • The Unwanted Chance   Chapter 72: First Official Meeting Started

Jeong’s POVIt’s been two days since the morning I spoke with Rae. Every time I’ve seen her it was either extremely awkward or she’d run away. I hate this so much, but I don’t know what to do in order to change it. Plus I’ve been so busy that I haven’t really had the time to do much. Even today I’m holding a meeting here at the house. I’ve appointed people who are loyal to me knowing what we stand for and what we are trying to achieve over lead positions. They are a mixture of shop owners, elders, and those with the required skills. This marks the first official meeting to which I decided to hold in the formal dinning room. It’s a room rarely used and for the amount of people here its the best option. The meeting has been going on for a good three hours and we aren’t even half way though the agenda. Using drones to create a replica of the land we’ve managed to map out th

Rae’s POVI helped Jean with dinner. Using what was available at the time I made something equivalent to potato salad and deviled eggs with the ranch. She made some of her normal dishes that I said would be fine to go along with what I made. After all was cooked Jean and I started setting the dinning table.Jean left to get the last of the food while I stood there in the dinning room looking at the table. Panic hit me when I heard Jeong’s voice coming from the hallway and without thinking I teleported to my room. Taking a deep breath standing in the middle of my room I place my hand on my chest to feel my erratic heart beat. Shaking my head I can’t help but feel ashamed at myself. I shouldn’t run away from him, I know that, but I’m afraid to face him right now.Jeong’s POVAfter Gerald’s initial shock and the atmosphere lightened, we began to talk about norma

Rae’s POVAfter placing all the different containers of herbs on the counter in the kitchen Henry asks, “What do you plan on doing with those?”With a huge grin on my face, “Care to help me?”Henry’s eyes light up, “With a smile like that how could I say no?”With everything that is going on lately this is a very much needed distraction. I know I need to address what just happened between me and Jeong and figure out what am I suppose to do exactly for the rest, but I welcome this. It’s been so long since I’ve made this and I really hope it turns out. Anything to give a little flavor to the food here. I’m surprised no one has done this and if they did they sure kept it secret.Grabbing a bowl, eggs, vinegar, oil and what I believe is equivalent to a bit of mustard seed I start getting to work.&

Rae’s POVHere I am standing in my own bathroom in Jeong’s arms naked. I was trying to quickly get to the closet to change, but thanks to him I slipped on the wet floor. Now both our bodies are firmly pressed together and I can feel he no longer is wearing any clothes. I can see him looking down with lust in his eyes as he stares at my breasts.I’m frozen stiff. I’m not sure what I should even do. Pushing away from him will give him full view of my body, not that he hasn’t seen it before but… It would also give me full view of his own body in all it’s glory. I watch as he traces his vision upwards until meeting my eyes. I can’t help but get lost in those gorgeous caramel eyes of his. Before I knew it he tightened his grip around my waist pulling me closer. I couldn’t help but gasp at the sudden action. His other hand soon found it’s way up the back of my neck before l

Jeong’s POV“How did? Who told you her name?” There is no way she could have found out my mothers name. Father had everything destroyed and made it like she never existed aside from that painting he keeps in his study.Rae lets out a sigh, “She did last night. That’s when her, Mary and the other woman sprung the bomb on me.”I can’t help but stare blankly at her. Not only does she seem to know about the theory of emotions fueling The Core but also knows about Mary’s sacrifice and my mothers name. Could what she’s saying actually be real? “Hold on, this is a lot for me to process right now. What you’re saying is insane and hard to believe, but you’re also saying things that you should have never known.”Rae uncertain “So… Does that mean you’re beginning to believe me?”“I&r

What does she even mean? What should I say in this situation? “I’m sorry if I said something that upset you. I don’t quite understand what you mean by not understanding.”Rae looks at me pleading “Women are being sacrificed in vain. The amount of sacrifices is of no use.”I can see tears trying to make their way out of her eyes. Caressing her face I thumb off an escaped tear. “I know dear. I lost my mother remember? Everyone here has lost someone, that’s why we are trying to change everything.”Rae grabs my hand in hers “No, you don’t underst
