Chapter 4

Author: Mizuki Sei
‘Just look at how unabashed this man is acting! This is ridiculous!’ Renee thought. She had always viewed Stefan as someone who was morally sound and would never commit adultery.

In the end… the very same man she thought so highly of, dropped a nuclear bomb on her. Not only did he intend on marrying his mistress, but they were expecting as well.

This was the last push that Renee needed to move on completely. The tinge of sadness in her heart had completely vanished.

“So this means you were cheating on me, right?”

Before Stefan could respond, Briar hurriedly placed herself between them. Teary-eyed, she said, “Ms. Everheart, it’s all my fault! If it makes you feel better, you can punish me however you want…”

‘Does this woman think this is some soap opera? She’d make a great actress, honestly.’

“Really now?” Renee raised her hand up high as if she was about to deliver a slap.

As soon as she realized what was going to happen, Briar squealed and darted behind Stefan.

“Didn’t you say I can punish you however I want? Why are you hiding?” Renee put up a fake smile as she ran her fingers through her hair, brushing them over her ear.

“Don’t be so dramatic, I’m no brute. I’m not going to beat you up like they normally do in the movies.”

“If you are truly in love with each other, I’d be more than happy to walk away from this relationship!”

“W-what?”

Briar was left dumbfounded by her words. She initially prepared to play the victim, but it turned out she didn’t have to play that card at all.

‘Looks like the rumors were true, Stefan and Renee really were just in a contractual marriage. Why else would she be so kind to her husband’s mistress?’

Renee continued speaking. “Since you cheated on me, it’s only fair that we make a few adjustments to our settlement.”

Hearing that Renee wanted a change in her compensation, Briar was so agitated that she dropped her facade.

“Stefan already said he’d give you 40 million dollars, along with a whole penthouse! He’s being generous enough as is! Besides, the Hunt family put in a lot of effort to clean up the mess your family made. How shameless of you…”

Renee nearly burst out laughing when she saw Briar break character.

“Aww, we’re not even legally divorced yet, and little Miss Mistress already has a say in his finances already? Are you scared that your man would lose all his money to this divorce? Who’s actually the greedy one here, hmm?”

Upon hearing the response, all color drained from Briar's face.

"T-that's not what I meant…"

Stefan remained calm and collected throughout the interaction. Staring at Renee with an intimidating aura, he uttered "Continue."

Renee took on his pressuring gaze head-on and listed out her new terms. "I don't want your money, nor the penthouse. Just hand over your law firm to me."

"By law firm, you’re referring to Hunts & Co.?" Stefan narrowed his eyes as he juggled his memory.

Being the top of the eight most powerful families in Beach City, the Hunt family were involved in all sorts of businesses. A single law firm was not significant enough to occupy Stefan's memory.

However, he did somewhat remember its existence, as it was in charge of handling all of the Hunt family's legal affairs. He merely viewed it as a charity organization, since the employees were earning high salaries without much work to handle.

The firm simply had no economic value to the Hunt family.

'This woman decides to turn down the 40 million dollars and instead asks for such a worthless asset? What is she thinking?'

Suddenly, he started seeing Renee in a new light. Although it had only been a few days, she seemed… like a completely different person.

"Well, that's my only condition. I'll send you an amended copy of the documents soon… It's getting late, so if you’ll excuse me!"

"Oh, and I wish you a fruitful life with your little lover."

Renee lifted her chin and revealed a satisfied grin as if she had just scored herself a phenomenal business deal. Sadly, her cool demeanor only lasted for a second.

Her head began to spin, and her vision turned black seconds later…

"Of course!" Timothy glared at Stefan and said grumpily, "Not everyone acts like you. All you do is make me mad. Ren isn't that kind of person. We had a happy chat, but you came all of a sudden and ruined the mood.""Okay, I was wrong. I'll leave. Enjoy your chat." Stefan stopped asking about that since Timothy was quite certain. He could only leave sensibly."No, you don't have to leave, given your relationship with Ren." Timothy frowned and ordered Stefan, "Take a walk with Ren. I've recently developed the garden and set up a lot of scenes there. Ren, you can see if there's any design to add.""Mm, Grandpa. That's unnecessary." Renee finally knew how well Timothy could lie. They had clearly gotten into a fight because of Austin just now. But surprisingly, Timothy claimed that they had a nice chat.Besides, Timothy refused to give up and still wanted to bring them together. He grabbed the chance to let them spend some time together. "Why not? This is also your home, as well as

When the servant saw Stefan come home, she happily broke the news to him. "You're home, Master Hunt. What a coincidence. Ms. Everheart is here, too.""Really? Is she here?" Stefan's eyes brightened. He was happy and surprised.Renee spent her days taking care of Margaret lately. Hence, it had been a long time since Stefan had seen her.He had wanted to see her at Caia's house, but it seemed too deliberate. After all, they shared no relationship except for the children. If he went and met her, his efforts to hold himself back before would be futile. Surprisingly, Renee had gone to Hunt Manor. Hence, their meeting would be natural. Stefan didn't have to hold himself back, either. "Where is she now?" Stefan asked eagerly, unable to hide his joy."She's in Master's study," the servant enthusiastically answered, but then she added a reminder. "But they didn't have a nice chat. I heard Master's agitated voice just now. They seemed to have gotten into a fight.""A fight?" Stefan frow

A tense atmosphere gripped them. Renee and Timothy had always been close, like grandfather and granddaughter. Their relationship had been warm and sincere from the moment Renee married Stefan until now.Renee had never offended Timothy. Similarly, Timothy had never said anything harsh wot Renee. But now, they became displeased with each other because of an infamous Austin. Timothy became very disappointed and found it unacceptable."I'm sorry, Grandpa. Maybe you won't believe me. But I'd never blamed any member of your family, including Stefan," Renee calmly expressed herself. "I feel that there's no right or wrong regarding the conflicts between me and your family in the past. We just shared different thoughts, and I had long forgotten them. I hope you won't feel guilty toward me. It'll only stress me out.""Have you really forgotten about them?" For the first time, Timothy felt that she had changed. She had grown mature and sensible. She would not be melancholic for a man o

"You're bewitched by that old man! He's murderous and has killed a lot of people. How could you find him a good person?"Timothy used to dote on Renee and take pride in her. Unexpectedly, a wicked demon had easily bribed her.On the one hand, he was angry at Austin for being that cunning. On the other hand, he was angry at Renee for being dumb and failed to differentiate between good and bad. "Calm down, Grandpa. These are trivial things. It's my opinion whether I find someone good or bad. It isn't important." Renee did not anticipate Timothy caring so much about that. She regretted being that honest. "No, it's important. I've always seen you as my granddaughter-in-law. Plus, you're the mother of my great-grandkids. Your opinions will now shape their characters. I must pay attention to that."Timothy had always been an amiable and tolerant person, but he became solemn and particular when it came to the Austin family. He was different from his usual self. Renee spread her han

Initially, Renee had doubted whether the Baldwin family was the mastermind behind her family's bankruptcy back then. But all this while, she failed to find any relevant evidence, no matter how hard she tried.Besides, Justin's family regarded her as family even though she had repeatedly stood them up and humiliated them. But they had never made things difficult for her. Gradually, she stopped doubting them. Surprisingly, Timothy told her the news. It made her waver again. "Grandpa, it sounds like you're aware of some inside story." Renee leaned forward and wanted to get to the bottom of it."No, I don't, but it's that old man's style. He'll never show mercy to his enemies he faces at the battlefield or the people who always stand against him!"At that point, Timothy became angry but melancholic. "Your grandpa and I decisively stopped being friends with him because he was too stubborn and cruel. Many people ended miserably because of this. But he's always held a grudge agains

Adie paused and said enthusiastically, "Great Grandpa, I heard that you were a soldier. Did you ever fight in a war?""Of course!" Timothy did not anticipate such a question from Adie. It was what he wanted to hear. He proudly talked about the unforgettable memories he had during wartime."When I was young, I was a great fighter. The things you see in films are nothing compared to what I'd experienced back then."Adie raised another question. "You're amazing, Great Grandpa! Did you ever fight the Oswians?" "Well, I didn't. They were gone at that time. But the people I fought were no different than the Oswians. They were bad people. I'd joined many wars and was never defeated. Plus, I still keep the medals with me. Let me show you!"Timothy could not stop reminiscing magnificent days. He went to the cabinet to fish out the medals and certificates he had kept for so many years. The two children were overjoyed when Timothy fished those things out. They held the medals and put them
