[Ivan’s POV]
"Arissa!" I hissed, quickly catching Arissa as her body went limp. "Hey, wake up!"
I clutched her in my arms and gently patted her cheek in an attempt to rouse her, but she didn’t respond. Instead, her mouth tightened into a grimace of discomfort and her face contorted in pain.
"GET A HEALER!" I growled, beginning to make my way towards the pack house while all the ceremony guests watched in confusion. "DON’T JUST STAND THERE LIKE FOOLS!"
At my words, the crowd came to life, making way for me to pass through and asking around if anyone was a healer.
Rolling my eyes, I continued to move, making my way into the pack house and up the stairs towards mine and Arissa’s living quarters. Once I arrived, I beelined for our room, laying her down on the bed and sending a mindlink to Christine.
Satisfied that she would arrive soon, I busied myself by pulling off Arissa’s shoes and loosening her corset.
"Master," Christine called when she arrived. "What happened here?"
"She started speaking about seeing someone and then she passed out." I explained, stepping aside so that Christine could begin to examine Arissa.
"Do you think it could be stress from the luna coronation getting the better of her?" Christine asked, as she placed two fingers on Arissa’s inner wrist. "Maybe it was too much, despite her insisting it wasn’t."
"Too much for Arissa?" I repeated, stopping the laugh that wanted to escape. "You know her." I pointed out. "Nothing is too much for her."
Instead of responding, Christine let out a huff. "Just because the mistress acts strong, it doesn’t mean that she is indestructible."
"I know that."
Of course, I knew that. Especially after getting past the well-built walls that she had when we first met. Despite her strong facade, she was still–even to this day– on the brink of breakdown at any point.
Recently, Arissa had begun to have nightmares of her past. Even though she was always vague in explaining them, I knew they involved the Omega concentration camp she was sent to as a child. Despite my trying to get her to tell me more about it, she wouldn’t speak of it. It hurt that she wouldn’t let me in that deep, but we still had plenty of time for that.
"Uh…" Christine murmured, drawing me out of my head. "Master…"
"What is it, Christine?" I asked, raising my eyebrows. "Why do you look nervous?"
"Um…I hope you don’t mind me asking, but do you know when the mistress’ last moon cycle was?"
"Her last?" I repeated, furrowing my brows. "When was the last time she attempted to kill me due to her being overly hormonal? "Come to think of it…" I began, realizing it had actually been a while. "I don’t remember."
"I see."
I watched as Christine’s usual stern expression began to soften and her eyes began to sparkle.
"Congratulations, master." She beamed, reaching out and shaking my hand. "You’re going to be a dad."
"Be…a….what." I managed as my head began to spin. "Repeat that."
"You’re going to be a dad." Christine huffed, her happy expression immediately faltering. "The mistress is pregnant. That could be why she is acting funny."
Pregnant… Arissa was pregnant. She was pregnant with my child, and we were going to be parents. This thought alone left me both excited and terrified.
Would I make a good father or would I end up being like my own? Though I had brought Arissa back in the beginning to create an heir, things were completely different. I no longer wanted just an heir from her. I wanted a family, and now that my wish was coming true, I didn’t quite know how to process it.
"Don’t panic." Christine said quickly, taking my silence as a bad thing. "You’ll make a great parent. If you need any help, I’m here to…"
"Would you mind stepping out?" I blurted, stopping Christine mid-sentence. "I’d like to have a moment alone with Arissa."
"Of course. If you need me, I’ll be right outside. "
"Thank you, Christine."
Forcing a smile, I watched as Christine made her way out of the room, leaving Arissa and I alone. Only after the door to our room closed did I collapse by Arissa’s side and fix my gaze on her stomach.
There was a little person beginning to form in there. A little me and a little Arissa. It was all so surreal. Was I really ready for this?
"Ivan?" Arissa’s soft voice murmured as her hand touched the top of my head. "What are you doing?"
"Thinking." I responded, grabbing her hand and bringing it to my lips.
"About?" She asked.
"Us, and our future family."
"Why that of all things at this moment?"
As Arissa spoke, she furrowed her brows in confusion, as if she did not quite understand what I was getting at.
"Because," I began, taking a deep breath. "Our duo is about to become a trio."
"Trio?" Arissa repeated, seeming to perk up. "Are you finally agreeing to a threesome?"
"No," I snapped, flicking her forehead. "I’ve told you multiple times...If anyone lays so much as a hand on you, I’ll fucking kill them. "
"Then what are you talking about?" Arissa demanded, beginning to pout.
"I was talking about you and me and our baby." I responded, feeling my heart soften by that simple word. "You’re pregnant, Arissa. We’re going to be parents."
"Parents…" she repeated, unsure if she managed to hear me correctly. "Like parents to an animal? Or even to an apprentice?"
"No," I chuckled, placing a comforting hand on her cheek. "I mean parents to a child that you and I made ourselves."
"Wait…" she gasped, extending a claw and running it the length of the corset that was still wrapped around her. "Are you saying…"
Reaching down, she yanked the corset off so I was left in only the skirt of her dress and a lacy bra that did no good at hiding her perfect breasts.
"There’s a thing in me." She continued, pressing a manicured finger against her stomach. "I have a little you and me in my stomach?"
"That’s right." I confirmed, letting a broad smile make its way across my face.
Unable to contain the joy that was now beginning to build as I accepted the reality around me, I leaned forward and wrapped my arms around Arissa’s waist. Pulling her closer, I placed my ear against her stomach in hopes of hearing the little things heartbeat.
"Woah, woah," Arissa gasped, grabbing my shoulders and attempting to pry me off. "If you keep that up, you’re going to..."
A loud gurgle erupted from her stomach, cutting off any other words that may have escaped her. Letting a laugh escape me, I untangled myself and quickly stood up.
"Come on," I chuckled, taking in Arissa’s bright red cheeks. "Let’s go feed you."
"I’m not hungry." She grumbled just as her stomach rumbled again.
"Of course you aren’t, my love." I smirked. "Quit being stubborn and come on. We can discuss this further once you’ve been fed."
[Arissa’s POV]I sat on mine and Ivan’s bed, picking at my food. Despite the things in front of me being my favorites, none of them were appealing. Just the smell alone was making me nauseous. Despite that, I attempted a few bites and immediately regretted it when I felt the food I had just swallowed attempt to come back up."Excuse me!" I gasped, jumping up and running to the bathroom."Arissa?" Ivan called, seeming genuinely concerned. "Are you alright?""F-fine..." I managed between heaves. As I spoke, I felt a warm hand press against my back as another lifted my hair before it could get ruined. Where the hand touched sent soothing tingles that immediately made me feel better."This child isn’t even born yet and is already causing trouble." I grumbled, collapsing against Ivan’s legs, and looked up into his eyes. "I’m blaming this on you.""Me?" Ivan repeated, raising a brow. "How can you blame me when you...""La la la." I began, plugging my ears. "I can’t hear you!"Jumping up, I
[Ivan’s POV]"Who?"I eyed Arissa as she continued to stare into the mirror ahead of her. Despite her insisting that something was there, I just couldn’t see it. Was she playing some sort of trick? Or was she actually seeing something?"Kids," Arissa muttered, reaching out and touching the mirror’s surface. "All the kids I killed in the past."At her words, I felt my heart clench painfully as images of that boy that attempted to kill her in the past appeared. Though I had managed to see that much of her memories, I hadn’t had the heart to actually ask her about it."Maybe you’re just tired." I murmured, wrapping my arms around her waist and pulling her against me. "Why don’t you try getting some sleep.""Sleep." The word came out quietly, but she didn’t protest as I pulled her closer. "I still need to brush my teeth." She pointed out, finally seeming to snap out of her daze."Then let me help you."Even though I knew that she didn’t need my help, something about leaving her alone in t
[Arissa’s POV]"Where to start?" I could feel my heartbeat picking up as I let all the emotions of that time crash into me. Until this day, I hadn’t told a single soul about that time or what I went through. It was still hard to believe that I would be doing this now. "As you know, at the age of eight, I didn’t meet my wolf.""That’s right." Ivan confirmed, tightening his hold on me. "And because of that, you were sent away.""Right," I sighed. "I was sent to Tenerbris Island." I continued, trying to keep my voice calm. "It was a specially made island for omega’s. The whole purpose of the island was to see who was the best candidate for reproduction. There it is kill or be killed. "Now that the words were flowing, so were the memories. The bloody sand that remained stained, leaving memories of what happened. The horror in my opponents' eyes as they slowly bled to death while I watched."Arissa," Ivan murmured, placing a hand on my cheek. "Where did you go?"Snapping out of my daze, I
[Arissa’s POV]"Welcome." Ivan called, remaining oblivious to the confusion that was rushing through me. "We are so happy that you agreed to...""No need for niceties." The man announced, cutting Ivan off.Instantly, I could feel annoyance beginning to radiate from him as he bit back his urge to argue. Haha, it looked like I would have some entertainment soon."There is no reason to attempt to ass kiss, alpha."This time I was unable to withstand the laughter that erupted from me, earning myself looks from all around me."It seems they aren’t impressed with you, Ivy." I managed in between bouts of laughter. "Shall I try?""Do you think it will...""Oh!" The tinkling voice echoed around us, cutting Ivan off once again.Confusion flared through me as I tried to make sense of what was going on. Turning my attention to the duo that had been coming to greet us, I braced myself as the woman’s eyes lit up with lust and she rushed forward."You’re so tiny and cute!" The woman cooed, wrapping
[Arissa’s POV]"Repeat that." I snapped, starting to believe that this old man was full of shit. "Kill the caster? How the fuck am I supposed to find them?"This was becoming more and more ridiculous. I had been cursed... cursed...As if the last fourteen years of my life weren’t a fucking curse. But not only was I cursed, I was also expected to know who exactly cursed me. How in the hell was I supposed to do that? I had crossed paths with so many insane people that it could be anyone!"Arissa, mind your manners." Ivan whispered, pulling me closer to him. "He is only...""Trying to help?" I finished for him, narrowing my gaze. "What would be helpful is..."I didn’t get to finish my sentence as a sudden wave of nausea hit me, causing my mouth to water and the taste of bile to dance on my tongue. Turning, I managed to make it to a rose bush before the contents of my stomach came back up. Dammit, this was really getting frustrating. If I wasn’t seeing dead children, I was throwing my bra
[Ivan’s POV]I watched as Arissa slipped off the formal attire she had been wearing for meeting the nomads and began to rummage through the closet for something more comfortable. Fuck the woman was enticing and the urge to attack her began to shadow any other thoughts."Don’t think about it, Ivy." Arissa giggled, pulling out a simple black dress and holding it against her chest. "Do you think this is acceptable for a banquet?"Standing up, I approached Arissa and yanked the far too short dress from her grasp. I didn’t know what she was playing at, but I wasn’t about to let any man see her in something so damn revealing."I think," I began, reaching around her and rummaging. "This is a better choice."Giving a tug, I pulled out a blue number with long sleeves and a floor-length skirt. Though the bust line was a little too low for my liking, it was much better than the one she was trying to wear."That grandma dress?" Arissa puffed, eyeing the garment in my hand. "I don’t understand why
[Arissa’s POV]The next day, I stood in front of the old holding cells where my mother had been banished after being brought back to Ivan’s pack. For a year, she had remained in this place, alone and away from the world. Not once had I bothered to come visit her, but despite my insistence that I didn’t care what came of her, the servants regularly informed me of her whereabouts. After what happened the night before, I didn't have the energy to argue with Ivan's suggestion, so I allowed him to bring me here. Now, I was regretting my decision and wishing that I had fought a little harder to not come.Letting out a frustrated growl, I looked over at Ivan as he spoke with the guard that watched over her during the day. I didn't know what they were talking about, and I didn’t care. However, before long, the guard was unlocking the door that kept my mother away from the rest of the world."Do we really have to do this?" I asked Ivan as I peered inside the dark building. "There are other way
[Ivan’s POV]"Are you alright?" I asked once Arissa and I were back in the pack house. "You’ve been really quiet.""Are you saying I talk a lot?" Arissa countered, attempting to put up a strong front."You know what I mean." I sighed.Even though this type of response was typical for Arissa, it didn’t mean I liked it. As her mate, I was more than willing to destroy anyone she asked me to, even if it meant destroying the moon goddess herself. I would do anything to see her smile and to know that she was happy and had everything she could ever want.‘Such a romantic.’ Bastian chuckled, sending waves of annoyance through me.‘Shut the hell up.’ I hissed, pushing him back to where he came from. ‘Stay out of this.’‘She is our mate.’ Bastian pointed out. ‘Therefore it involves me too.’‘Rosario is yours.’ I countered. ‘Arissa is mine.’‘I’m no ones.’ Rosario growled, causing Arissa to freeze mid-step and shoot me a glare."Are you discussing me?" She demanded, narrowing her gaze.Shit, I w
[Ivan’s POV]Two weeks have passed by in a blur since Rose Woods was taken down and Arissa’s curse was lifted. Two weeks filled with court hearings and punishment issuing, not to mention making deals with the nomads in regards to Catori’s part in Arissa’s torture. In the end, we agreed to allow him to go back with Nazhoni and Rome to be tried for his treachery.Despite my hesitance to let him out of my sight after everything Theodore and Giselle did after I spared them, Arissa convinced me to let them take him. Now, I sat in the front of the execution chamber, watching as Theodore was strapped down to a wooden chair. His dark gaze bore into me, as if his hatred towards me would end up killing me before he was killed."Ready, alpha." Igor announced once he was secured. "Shall we get started?"Nodding, I lifted a hand, and motioned for him to proceed.Leaning back, I crossed my arms across my chest while Igor filled a syringe with a strong dose of poison that was sure to kill even the s
[Arissa’s POV]"Watch your step." Ivan murmured, reaching out and taking my hand. "Are you sure you don’t want me to take one of them?"Shaking my head, I pulled Apollo and Conal closer to myself as I stepped out of the carriage we were in and let the familiar scent of Tonitru territory hit my nose. After rescuing our children and packmates, Ivan and I decided to head straight for Tonitru since our packmates and friends could handle the rest of Rose Woods. Despite still feeling on edge about something going wrong, I allowed Ivan to convince me to come here so that we could finally end all of this."Where is it?" I asked, beginning to make my way towards the pack house. "Are you sure that it is here?""Where is your family burial grounds located?" Ivan asked instead."This way." I responded, motioning towards the back of the building. "It is just back there, a little ways into the woods."Nodding, Ivan wrapped an arm around my waist and began to lead us in the direction I pointed out.
[Ivan’s POV]I surged forward, making my way towards the compound in front of me. All around me, everyone was beginning to shift, but I didn’t feel like using my wolf to fight. Instead, I felt like using the new abilities that I recently acquired thanks to finishing the trials.‘Congratuatlions.’ The being murmured as I moved. ‘You’ve done well.’‘No shit.’ I huffed in response. ‘I am me after all.’‘I wish you the best, alpha god.’ the being announced.‘God?’ I repeated, but I was only met with silence. What the hell?Turning back to the situation at hand, I had just enough time to spot a large white wolf shooting across the grounds and diving through a window."Arissa."Breaking off from my group, I headed in the direction that she went. When I arrived, I could hear chaos breaking out from within."Just couldn’t wait on me." I sighed, diving through the window she had managed to break to find Arissa ripping out the throat of a large man with beady eyes. All around her were bodies t
[Arissa’s POV]"What’s your plan?" I asked, trying to hide the shock that was racing through me.I don’t know exactly what I expected when Ivan pinpointed the traitor, but I still couldn’t quite believe that it was the silent giant Catori. "He needs to be locked up for now." Ivan responded slowly.Nodding, I looked towards where Stefan stood, dumbfounded. At least everyone here was reflecting the same emotions I felt."Take him to join Giselle and Theodore." I continued, "After that, we need someone to take care of the bodies in the engine room.""That’s my luna," Ivan beamed, causing my cheeks to flush. "Taking control just like the leader you are.""Now isn’t the time." I warned, trying to keep my embarrassment over being praised under control. "We should be arriving at our destination soon and need to handle matters here."Chuckling, Ivan simply nodded while giving me an approving smile. Shit, the man was dangerous, especially when he flashed those pearly whites."Here, he’s all y
[Ivan’s POV]"Let’s go."Grabbing Arissa’s hand, I began to move. I needed Stefan to let me into whatever room that was so that I could see if the person responsible’s essence was still lingering."Are we mole hunting?" Arissa asked, seeming to perk up."Something like that."Since she wasn’t aware that determining who the killer was would break her curse, I wanted to keep it a surprise. Especially if I wasn’t able to find them. ‘Don’t think like that.’ Bastian warned. ‘This determines whether or not we get to stay with our mate.’‘I know.’ I snapped.I promised many times that I would rip apart heaven and hell to be with her, but there was always that what if deep in my heart. Of course, I refused to listen to that what if, but it didn’t mean the bastard wasn’t there.Shaking off any doubts, I hurried down the stairs that led to the bunk areas to find Stefan slouched on the floor, guarding Hans, who was fast asleep."Ssssshhhhh." He hissed as I opened my mouth to speak. "He just fel
[Ivan’s POV]I bit back the laugh that wanted to escape as Arissa’s cheeks turned a bright shade of red. Goddess, she was beautiful, and when she flushed it made her so damn sexy, as it reminded me of when we were alone and..."You have quite the smooth tongue." She murmured, trying to regain her composure. "How do you stay so serious when spouting such bullshit?""Bullshit?" I repeated."That’s right."If she wanted to claim what I said was bullshit, I would show her true bullshit. However, as I prepared to speak, I felt a slight tap on my consciousness. Frowning, I allowed whoever it was to enter and immediately regretted it.‘Sorry to disturb.’ The being chuckled, even though it was clear that it wasn’t sorry. ‘But I have to remind you that there is still one more trial.’Right… If I wanted to stay here with Arissa, I needed to complete the final trial, but what the hell was it?"What’s wrong?"Letting out a long breath, I fixed my gaze on Arissa’s and gave an apologetic smile. It
[Arissa’s POV]My heart raced and I wondered if I was hallucinating or if this was another fucking jinn. How was it possible that when all hell was beginning to break loose, the person I needed the most would appear?"I-Ivan," I whispered, "You’re back?"At my words, a broad smile replaced his worn-out expression."That’s right, my love." He responded, getting to his feet. "Didn’t I tell you that not even heaven or hell could keep me from you?"Unable to contain my emotions, I surged forward, slamming my body against his while his arms wrapped tightly around my waist. I buried my face against his chest and breathed in deeply, letting myself get lost in his smell. It really was him."Does this mean you passed all the trials?" I asked, pulling away enough to look at him. "You’re back for good, right?"Before he could respond, a roar ripped through the room, followed by Nazhoni’s curses.Whirling around, I watched Hans race towards us with his teeth bared and his claws extended. Fuck, I
[Ivan’s POV]"Now," the being announced. "Are you ready for your next trial?""So soon?"I just finished fighting a pretty strong opponent and would be lying if I said that I wasn’t feeling it. Though I managed to tap into a new source of power, I didn’t know how to control it yet and therefore was wiped out."Is that a no?""No."Standing up, I did my best to push away the exhaustion that I was feeling. If I let myself stop now, all the struggle prior to this would be worthless."What is it?"I watched as the being began to use its hands to make circular motions in the air. Where its fingers passed created tiny glowing orbs. Frowning, I tried to determine exactly what was going on here, but came up short."What are you doing?""Creating two paths." The being explained."Paths?"Furrowing my brows, I continued to watch as the glowing spheres that were being created started to grow bigger and bigger until they were the perfect size for someone to pass through."What?" I hissed when wha
[Arissa’s POV]I stumbled backwards once Hans was finished feeding and wiped the sweat that was beginning to form on my brow. Blinking away the black spots that were beginning to appear in front of my eyes, I looked at his injury and found that it was beginning to close. However, where the skin healed remained raised and a purplish color, but it was healing and that was all that mattered."You should try to get some rest." Lindsey murmured, placing a hand on my shoulder."Yeah, what she said!" Pixie agreed, popping out from my other side. "You’ve been through a lot.""I’m okay." I assured the duo, forcing a smile. "There might be more of those creatures lurking. We need to stay on alert.""We can handle them." Nazhoni chimed, narrowing her gaze at me. "I agree with them. You need to rest after everything. ""By the way," Pixie murmured, lifting her curious gaze to me. "Why did you give him your blood?"Busted… I forgot that some of those present didn’t know my secret."Pixie," Lindsey
