Chapter 16

Nora got anxious and bit the man on the arm. The man yelled out in pain. In a moment of anger, he slapped Nora in the face.

Her frail little body could not take an adult's slap, and she flew sideways from it. Nora knocked into a table at the side.

Nora's head was cut. Blood slowly trickled down her little face as she cried in anguish.

"Dad… Dad…"

She cried hard and called out loud for her father in desperation. It sounded like it was her last hope.

When Nora was bullied by other children, she would quietly call out for her father—the man she had never met—in her heart. It gave her courage and strength when she called out for him because it could at least give her hope.

"You don't have a father! You're a child with no father! That's the reason the Langs don't want you, you little brat!" The woman reached out to cover the mouth of the crying Nora.

This was a small district, and the soundproofing was not great. It would be bad if they were heard. Some of their neighbors might even
