ERIC
I could feel myself floating as I walked into my office. I had woken up this morning to discover the mess a blogger created alleging I was gay. That had not moved me, although I knew my father was going to bring down the roof. Damien had not called me, even though I was sure as hell that he had seen the headlines. What made me avidly angry was the state I was in when they took those photos. I was at the peak of pain from the betrayal I suffered from a woman and they called me gay? Since when did gays get broken because of the opposite gender? I had sent my investigator to gather more information about the blogger. Once they had gathered the information, I would make her life hell for what she did. But why did she decide to post about me? Some other businessmen and celebrities were gay but had never been carried by blogs. After all, it was their personal life. It could only mean so many things. She did it to increase conversion to her blog page, or one of his competitors hated him so much that they wanted to ruin him. could it be a strategy from Damien’s father’s opponent to reduce his chance of being elected for the second tenure as prime minister? Whatever it was, I would get to the root of it when I apprehend the blogger. Walking into my office, I could hear silent whispers about me. I would normally have shouted at them and asked them to get back to work, but I left them. After all, what is life without gossip? The only thing here was that they did not know how it affected me. When I got to my office, my investigator, Tyler, was waiting for me. He was a long-time friend and had been loyal. Tyler narrowed his eyes, eye-rating me. “You have grown leaner. Have you been eating?” he asked, his voice laced with concern. “What can I say, friend? My girlfriend cheated on me with my opponent. While trying to recover from it, a blogger decides to declare me gay,” I replied and sat up. “Do you know how much damage this news is going to cause to the people involved in it? To Damien and his father. To me and my career?” I let a moment of silence pass before I responded. “I am too worried to care about eating.” There was no need to lie and keep up with the tough billionaire's name. If there was anything I had discovered within the past week, it was that. Love and Rumour could break a man more than anything. Tyler heaved a sigh and nodded his head in understanding. “I understand but I’ve gotten everything you asked for,” He said and handed his tab to me as I scrolled through the file. He turned on the television and started recounting the girl’s whole life to me. “Did you find the reason she did it? I mean, did you check her call logs, her bank account, and stuffs like that?” “I did, and there was no trace. No money was paid into her account. No calls. I think she did this on purpose.” Tyler concluded. I nodded at him. “She was not under any duress; she did this for her selfish reasons. So, what do we do?” I asked. “Well, I think…” A loud bang on the door interrupted our discussion. I shut my eyes in anger for a moment as a familiar scent hit the room. My father, he walked in, his face heavy. He threw at me, a copy of a magazine with mine and Damien’s photos on it. I got more furious, seeing the caption. He sat opposite me, slanted himself a little in the chair, his two hands were intertwined together with his chin resting on it. He glared at me. “What is the meaning of this?” He asked, his eyes on the paper. Scoffing, I replied. “It’s just some blogger snooping around. I will take care of it,” with that, I tossed the magazine back to him. “My question is why will Eric Sloan, son of Landon Sloan, future heir to the Sloan group of companies, be found at a bar with his friend in this position” I shrugged. “I was drunk” “Why?” He asked, wearing a more serious face. “I wanted to relieve myself of some stress. Besides, why did you seem to care? You know it's a lie,” I replied. My father did not know the reason why Bella and I had broken up. No one did, except Damien and Tyler. He banged his fist on my table. “You do not relieve some stress by getting drunk! I trained you more than that!” His nostrils flared as he shouted. “Did you forget who you are? So many of our investors will question your capability. Is that what you wanted? To be referred to as a failure?” He asked. I closed my eyes as I tried to control my anger. Who said being gay made one incompetent? “I would fix it?” I assured him. He stood up and buttoned his suit. “Better do! The world does not need to know you are a coward,” he said with a stern voice and left. Tyler stood there, his mouth cracked. He was shocked at my father’s outburst. Damien entered inside a few minutes later and shook hands with me as if he was not aware of what happened. “We need to do something about this tweet of a blogger," he said, facing me. Tyler sat by his side. “The political party is beginning to question my dad because he said I was straight, I mean I campaigned for him as a straight man and then this news came out that I am gay,” Damien explained, his voice low, his eyes red with worry. “Let’s not forget Bella, my girlfriend. People are throwing questions and I am not trying to blame you, but it's your fault!” I glared at him. “Don’t look at me like that. You would have gotten drunk in a more expensive restaurant where your privacy could have been be more safe, or even at one of your hotels.” I knew what he was saying was true. I would have gone to my restaurant or an expensive one. But then again. I was too sorrowful to think. “I know, but I am confused. I don’t…” “We have to figure it out before it blows up everything” Damien cut me shut before I could finish my statement. Tyler suddenly increased the volume of the TV. We glared at him. Why would he be bothered about something like TV at this time? He pointed towards the TV. “That’s the blogger. That’s Laura,” he said, pointing at her. We listened to her with rapt attention. “Yeah, I was an eyewitness to that photo I posted. Even his former girlfriend approached me after I wrote it. She thanked me for being able to do what she could not do. This confirms the entire issue. That they are both gay.” I curled my palm into a fist. “What the fuck!” Damien shouted. He spared a glance at me, then at her. “She needs to be taught a lesson,” he said I nodded in support “An unforgettable lesson!”LAURA Sitting on my chair in front of my dressing mirror I tried my best to wear my make-up, but it was not working. My hands were shaking. Today I would be having an interview with Robes and whatever I said would be concrete evidence against Eric who had done me no harm. I just had to keep up with the lie. For my mother’s sake. Suddenly, my phone rang, and I looked at the caller ID. It was Rena, my best friend. I didn't want to take the call at first, but I took it. “Laura, have you seen the news online about Eric Sloan? They said your blog was the one that posted it but I corrected them. It can never be you. Maybe your blog was hacked,” she poured out, I couldn't help but heave a heavy sigh. Thank goodness Rena had fought for me. Anyone who knew me would know that I would never do such a thing. “It was me, Rena. I was the one who posted it,” I dropped it, breaking her heart. My voice low and heavy with guilt. Rena was silent for a while. “why… You what?” She asked, after recove
LAURA I stared at him for a while contemplating taking his hands. What was he trying to do? Take me from here and kill me? He cleared his throat “Because you are already in my black book. I would consider you to take my hands to avoid further embarrassment.” He said with a sharp tone. I reluctantly took his hands and he immediately walked me out of the crowd. Camera clicks followed as we walked towards the Bugatti. He opened the door for me and I sheepishly entered. He turned around to the other side and sat beside me with a frown. He glared at me for a second and focused back on his iPad. All this while my breath was sucked in as I tried to wonder where they were taking me to. As if he read my mind he looked outside the window, as if he was disgusted by my presence. “We are going to the Villa. And like I said, to talk.” he finally broke the silence. I nodded in agreement, knowing fully well about the villa he was talking about. It was one of a kind, almost like a modernized cas
LAURA Well, I was left with no choice but to accept his proposal, even though I knew deep down that i just signed a death warrant. He had succeeded in forcing me to post the picture on my blog page, as well. I never wanted to post the photos, but I had no other choice, he had threatened to make sure my brother wouldn't only spend time in jail, but he would also kill him. “Will you just enter the car now!” Eric's voice echoed, jotting me off from my deep thoughts. “She's just a gold digger,” Damian smirked. “Don't tell me you're catching feelings for that bitch already,” he joked. Eric gave him a derisive stare as he barked, “you can never be serious for once in your life!” “Where are we going?” I braced up to ask. “Just get in the car, and stop questioning!” Eric glared. The others went in their separate cars, and Eric and I went with the same car that we came in. “Where do you live!” His voice thundered. “Downtown,” “Good! You heard her well, or are you just g
LAURANothing possible was running through my mind, and the best I could just do is to stare at the heavens, hoping the anonymous caller holding my mother hostage would give me an answer. At least, I wanted to know if she's still alive. My nerves frayed, merely thinking if he'd have killed her. Did he also saw the photos of I and Eric Sloan?Pains bored into me as I glanced at the ring on my finger. I couldn't even bring myself to tell Rena of my atrocity. I was a coward, a total one. This wasn't my intentions to do but, however, I'll carry them so far it makes them not to touch my mother.I trod to my system, bracing up again to look into the blog. Whatever it is, I'm ready to face them. To face, Eric Sloan.#SHE'S SUCH A CHEAP THING#WHO ACCUSES A FAMOUS PERSON AS A GAY AND GET ENGAGED TO HIM OVERNIGHT??#LAURA KARMA IS A BITÇH!My eyes twitched as my heart constricted, my hands moving on the keys smartly and swiftly. I had to make the engagement look real. Enough of Eric Sloan's pr
LAURAThe grasp of my bag that I held became tighter as I gulped down nothing, barely staring at Agatha's eyes which almost swallowed mine. She's the same lady who had thrown different questions at me earlier. Oh God, what does she want now? Was she here to interrogate me too?“You still walked in here, Laura Karma.” She repeated, bitterness obvious in her voice as I cleared my throat, pondering on what to say.She looks so meaner than Eric.I took a step backwards, my eyes still on her as I parted my lips to say. “Eric Sloan asked me to be here for the press conference.” I muttered. Agatha took a long stare at me as if searching for something in me and when her eyes caught the ring on my finger, she frowned.“You're really such a bitçh, aren't you?” She spewed and I was momentarily dazed. “I don't know what you're talking about.” I said, glancing around to see if we were causing commotion. I didn't want others to see me causing another problem after creating one.Agatha sauntered cl
ERIC“Alright, Dad.” I mumbled, hanging up on the call I had been on with Dad for the past 30 minutes. Dad had called to inform me on his ceremonial event, and he wanted to see my supposed girlfriend I'd claimed to the press. How things gets spread like wildfire these days is overwhelming.“What did he say?” My friend, Tyler asked from behind me and I sighed deeply, sliding my swivel chair to seat. “Nothing new. He just wants to see my girlfriend so he's coming up with an event party.” Tyler's pupils dilated as he stared at me, utterly surprised. “What?” I asked, my voice solemn.“Did you just call her your girlfriend?” He asked in awe and that's when it dawned on me that I had just called that newscaster of a lady, girlfriend. I smacked my head, sweeping my hair backwards in annoyance. Damn, how much I loathed that bitçh.“No.” I denied, quirking my brows at him. I could tell Tyler wasn't convinced by my response, but he decided not to bulge which I loved.“So, you'll be going to g
LAURAWell, I was perfectly dressed up in the dress Eric had sent to me. The hairstylist did an impressive job as well, and I'd say it's a hundred over ten for her. I was still mesmerizing about myself and what I'd tell Rena when she calls next time when the honks of a car sounded outside my apartment, leading me to rush out hastily. That must be him. I would rather not get on his bad side tonight or so. He's cold, mean and acts like a jerk, but I must say, at times he treats me nicely as a lady deserved. But to my surprise, that wasn't him like I expected but instead, the same driver who had taken Eric and I to my place the other time showed up.“Good evening, ma'am. Sir Eric asked me to bring you to his place.” The gent said politely, showing off his perfect dentition and I managed a smile at him.“Okay,” Was all I muttered before entering into the car as he drove us away. In due time, he pulled to a stop in front of a beautiful mansion that I was forced to let out a wow at the gor
LAURAWhat?Did I just hear clearly? I knew I shouldn't be expecting much when I was one of the reason for all this that was happening. Eric mentioned to me that all this, all our acting, our shows to the public were just for a year... And we'll break up.My lips parted, but my eyes said otherwise. Something I couldn't decipher as I muttered, “Fine then..I can't wait to get out of your trap, Mr. Eric Sloan.” I responded, even though my mouth felt at the words I just spewed. Eric let out an Irish grin at me as we approached where some guests were in the round table. My eyes suddenly met Agatha's and I earned a cold daring glare from her as I sat almost close to Eric.“Good evening all of you.” Eric exchanged pleasantries to them, exchanging handshakes and smile. Gosh, Eric Sloan does smile? Wow. Someone pinch me.I kept dragging the short red dress I wore which screamed luxurious, uncomfortable at Agatha's cold glares. Only if eyes could kill someone, I'm sure she would have done almo
