Chapter 23

LAURA

Heart racing so fast in my chest, the unexpected blasted at my face. I would say blast because Eric Sloan was cold, and heartless. What was I expecting? He married me threatening my life and here he was, claiming I wasn't his type. Yeah, I wasn't his type, but what hurt me most was the fact that this stupid heart of mine was falling for him. A jerk.

Eric hung up on whoever was on the phone as he turned to face me, he paused when his eyes fixated on mine and so did I, I never took my gaze away from him and neither did I let tears waver in my eyes.

“How long have you been standing there?” Eric asked, unhinged.

“I don't know. Maybe 2, 5 or 10,” I shrugged, moving closer to him. It wasn't clear to me why I was going closer to him, but I felt like I needed to say something.

“Larry said you paid his hospital bills,” I started. Eric looked away and oogled me as he gave a nervous chuckle. “Who told you that? I wouldn't do that,” He responded.
