EMILY’S POVIt has been three days since I had heard from Dominic since the last time that we spoke and I had to force myself not to worry about it. I needed a distraction. I walked into Sofia's room and found her with a book in her hand. I felt bad for being away for so long because I'd been distracted. She was probably losing her mind spending the whole day in this room. I decided it was time to give her some freedom. Dominic was not around and I was in charge. Plus, Dominic and Dino were now working together. “Hey,” I said. “Hey,” Sofia responded. “I'm sorry I've not been here to check in on you for a while. But I decided that since Dominic and Dino have reached an agreement and are now working together, there is no need to keep you locked up in this room. You deserve to have a bit of freedom. Move around the house and stuff.” I told her. Her face was bright, but she looked uncertain. “Would that sit well with your fiancé?” “What does it matter? He's not here. Plus I am in ch
EMILY’S POV I let out a piercing scream as my eyes flew open and I turned around to see the intruder, only to be met with Dominic's piercing ocean-blue eyes. “Shit, you scared me,” I said, my hands placed on my chest. He gave me a sympathetic smile. “I didn't mean to startle you, my love. I only wanted to surprise you.” My fear gave way to delight and I jumped into his arms. “What are you doing here? I was so worried about you?” “I missed you too much, I had to come back and see you. I was going insane. I'll have to leave first thing in the morning.” He told me, but I didn't care how long he stayed, all that mattered to me was that he was here with me. “I am so glad you're here,” I whispered. “Me too, amore mio, me too.” He whispered before taking my lips in his. He pressed me against the wall as his tongue took over my mouth, I'd missed the taste of him even though he'd only been away for a week. His hands roamed my wet body as the water continued to wash over the two of us.
DOMINIC'S POV I kissed Emily wildly and passionately as I led her to the bed, everything in me craved to be inside her. I was losing my mind in Italy, and on an impulse, I came back to see her. Being away from her was like hell, it was like a part of me was missing. The thing with the Cartel was getting too heated, and I could not be away for too long, but I needed a moment to breathe. The deeper we got into it, the more I wondered if this was actually going to end well for me. I pushed all thoughts of the war out of my head and I focused on Emily. Her plush, soft, sweet lips are on mine. I picked her up and placed her on the bed. I pulled away from her lips and trailed kisses from her neck to her stomach before coming back up to admire her perfect body, her skin was glowing with the light from the moon casting upon her. I could barely believe that she was mine. “Il sole, la luna e le stelle si inchinano alla tua bellezza.” I whispered to her. She looked at me in wonder and pure
EMILY’S POVMy heart broke as I watched Dominic say his goodbye to Anita and Daniella. Daniella gave him a curt goodbye and stood at the side, but Anita was crying her eyes out at having to watch her father go. I cried also; I knew what was going through her mind; it was the same thing that was going through my mind, too. The fact is anything could happen, and we could never see him again. He could die. He looked at me, I could see the anger in his eyes…anger at the situation, anger at seeing his daughter cry, anger at everything that had brought him to this place. His eyes burned with fury. I walked up to him and threw my arms around him. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him. “I'm so sorry.” He whispered into my ears. “Just come back.” “As soon as I can get away again, I'll be back.” He promised and then he left. I pulled Anita into my arms as he sobbed. I watched as Daniella stood there looking awkward, but something was going on that caught my atten
EMILY’S POV “I am so sorry that happened to you, sweetheart,” I told Daniella because that was the only thing I could think of to say. The tears were flowing down her face freely now and it broke my heart to watch. I knew exactly what she was going through because I remember the pain and how much it hurt when my father died. “I don't even know why I'm getting so emotional, maybe it is because I am sad for Anita. She's scared her father won't come back.” Daniella explained. Her words made my heart drop. It suddenly occurred to me that this could easily be the last time that we would see Dominic if something went wrong. I tried not to show my sadness to Daniella because I knew that she was going through so much pain, she and Anita needed to see me strong. I pulled her into my arms and wrapped her in a hug to comfort her till she calmed down. Then we pulled away from each other. “I think you should go and join Anita and have some rest. Maybe the three of us can all do something fun l
DOMINIC'S POV The plan had been successful and the goods were intercepted and moved to one of our warehouses in the United States. It took a lot of work and a whole lot of planning, but we were able to get it done. I was just getting down from the SUV when my phone rang with a call from an unknown number.I picked it up immediately, I knew who it was already. “You're playing with fire, Moreno.” Carlos Mendez said with a very heavy Hispanic accent. “No, I'm playing the game that you started,” I told him through gritted teeth. “I am coming for you, and I am going to hit you right where it hurts. We've only just begun.” He threatened before he ended the call. “Who was that?” Victor said as he came and stood beside me. “Carlos Mendez. He called to make threats.” I told him. I turned to look at him and he was smiling. “What's so funny?” “Do you know what that call means?” He asked me and I shook my head in confusion because his tone implied that the call was a good thing. “What d
DOMINIC'S POV Hearing Emily’s voice made me feel better and had a calming effect, but it also made me worried. I felt like I was putting her in a position that she deserved better than to be in. “I trust you.” She said softly and it made my chest tighten. I could not afford to let her down. Her faith in me was a comfort and a burden at the same time. “I'll call you when I get the chance. Try not to worry so much.” “I'll try. Be careful, okay?” “I will. I love you.” “I love you.” She said softly. There was a brief moment of silence between us, almost as though we were enjoying each other’s presence through the phone. Then she ended the call. There was a time in my life when I did not think that it was possible for me to love any woman this much. After Anita's mother, the pain of loss had been too much and I never wanted to experience it again. Women had become nothing more than a way to please me, but even that had lost its flavour before Emily came into my life. The first time
EMILY’S POV It had been two weeks since Dominic had been away and we had only spoken on the phone three times. It was hard not to miss him, but I knew that I had to be patient. It wasn't so hard anymore. I spent a lot of time talking to Sophia and distracting myself with activities with Anita and Daniella. Anita was back to herself after a couple of days of not talking to anybody and staying in her room the whole day. I was worried that she would be like that until Dominic returned, but I was glad she found herself again. However, on some days,, I would catch her zoning out, and I knew she was getting worried about her father again. I wasn't the only one who noticed because Sofia asked me about it one time. “I don't think she is as fine as she pretends to be,” Sofia said as we watched Anita and Daniella talking together. “I don't think she is too, but she's trying her best,” I told her. “How old is she?” Sofia asked. “She's thirteen.” “This whole thing is a huge burden for a yo
EMILY’S POV When I got back to Ireland, it was already almost midnight. Dominic allowed me to stay one more day before I had to leave again. I was still worried about him, but I knew that staying there would not change his mind, I had to give him space. As I walked into our bedroom, I remembered our conversation. Surely, he had to see the sense in what I was saying. I knew he knew that I was right, he was just too stubborn to acknowledge it. I think it was because he was afraid of what life outside of the Mafia would mean for him—I was not heartless; I understood that it would be hard for him. But living like this was too much, I wasn't sure I could handle it. Always being afraid that the next call I would get from Victor or Barry and Ezra was to tell me that he was dead. When Lorenzo told me what Barry had called to tell him, I was shaking all over. I didn't calm down, not even after Lorenzo told me that he was okay and he was in a stable condition. I had to go and see it for mys
DOMINIC’S POV Emily’s words hurt more than any bullet ever could. I looked around her as I tried to process what she had just said to me. She was actually asking me to choose between losing her and losing the only life that I've known all my life. “You don't mean that?” My voice was filled with emotions, almost pleading, but when I looked into her eyes, I knew that she meant every word that she had said. “I love you, Dominic. I really do, but I cannot love like this. This…this constant worrying.” Her voice was low and I could hear the hurt in her voice. I tried to sit up, but I was in so much pain, and my head still hurt. “Don't try to stand up. I'm sorry I brought this up, this was the wrong time.” She said, looking guilty now. “There would have never been a right time to bring something like this up,” I said, frustration coursed through me, but I tried my best to control it. “You knew what you were getting into. You knew this was how my world operated. Do you really think I co
DOMINIC'S POV I opened my eyes slowly and immediately regretted it when bright sunlight attacked my vision, causing a sharp pain to shoot through my head. “Fuck.” I cursed under my breath weakly. I looked around at my surroundings. I was in the one place I swore I would never be caught dead in—the hospital. The moment I was allowed to get out of this place, I will find Carlos and make sure he pays for this. I made an attempt to sit up, but the incredible pain from my side stopped me. “Oh, good, you're awake.” A nurse walked into the room, a small smile on her face, but I could tell that she was anxious. I liked the fact that she knew that just because I was in a vulnerable position didn't mean that I was to be fucked with. “How long have I been out?” I asked her. “About two days. After we took the bullet out of you and stopped the bleeding, we put you to rest.” She explained. “How long do I have to be here?” I asked through gritted teeth. “I am not sure. That is entirely up to
DOMINIC'S POVEverything had been going as planned, we had not heard from the Cartel in two weeks, but that was no reason to relax. It was obvious that they were planning their next move, and we had to be careful. We were on our way back from a meeting with one of our informants when the ambush happened. It was unexpected and we were not prepared for it. It was quick, precise and brutal—you would expect nothing less from Carlos Mendez. The first explosion caused our convoy to go into chaos, one of the SUVs in front of mine flipped over in a fiery wreck. Loud shots began to ring out immediately. “Get down!” Victor ordered loudly as he pulled out his gun and began to fire out the window. I was about to pull out my gun and begin shooting when the second blast rocked the ground under us. Our SUV was thrown to the side. The air was filled with smoke. The heavy stench of burning rubber and blood filled my nose. Pain shot through my body as I hit the glass. My vision began to blur but I f
