River’s Birthday Party
~~R&B music rumbled through the Ironclaw packhouse. The energy there was vibrant and infectious as disco lights twinkled overhead, illuminating the large hall that was the venue of the party.Laughter and chatter filled the air as guests mingled amongst themselves, their excitement bubbling up in the colorful hall. Tonight was River's 19th birthday, and Echo had thrown her a party unlike any other.River, who was the center of attention spun around in a joyous circle, her crimson dress swirling like a blooming rose. There was nothing in the world that could contain her excitement.True, she was happy to have made it this far and grown up despite all her challenges and incompetencies but, most importantly, her upcoming mating ceremony with Gonzalo McGruff was the peak of her joy. With an expectant heart, she scanned the room, searching for Gonzalo. He'd been strangely distant since their– encounter…a few nights ago.Yet, he'd promised to be here, and River, ever the optimist, chose to believe him. Gentlemen kept their word and Gonzalo was the gentlest of men she had ever encountered.Nothing could go wrong. Nothing at all!Ah – she felt like she was on top of the moon. She spotted Echo who looked super radiant in a sapphire dress. She was holding court with a group of pack warriors. River weaved through the crowd with a wide smile plastered on her face and hurried to her sister.“Echo! You shouldn't have gone this far. This is more than I imagined!" she exclaimed, throwing her arms around her sister in a tight hug."Happy birthday, little sis! You really need this party, trust me.” Echo squeezed back with a seemingly genuine smile. "Now, let's get you the center of attention you deserve."“Yayyyy!” Shrieked, River.Echo led her to a makeshift stage. As they stepped on the podium, a spotlight illuminated River’s every step. The music faded immediately and was replaced by a silence that fell over the crowd. River got momentarily self-conscious under so many watchful eyes, but this wasn't new to her, standing in front of so many people. She’d always liked the attention, however, what she loathed was the belittling looks people shoot at her in such gatherings. Echo was always the one getting all the respect and admiration.Yet, River didn't mind at all. Echo was her sister and she took care of her all right. She straightened her dress and took a deep breath as Echo clicked on a cocktail cup to get everyone’s attention.“Thanks for coming out to celebrate my sister, everyone.” Echo began but was barely allowed to finish as a round of applause tore through the hall.Waving a hand in the air and attaining decorum, Echo commenced. “Before the grand celebration begins, my little sister here has been bugging me about an announcement she’d like to make.”Now, all eyes began to settle on River who didn't waste time at all to take the stage.“Everyone! Thank you for coming tonight," she began, her voice surprisingly trembling slightly. She might have spoken in front of a crowd in the past but none included her making such an announcement.“This is truly a night to remember. Not just because of my birthday, but because…"She paused, took a deep breath, and darted her gaze towards the entrance.Still no Gonzalo. Worry took over her face, but she quickly pushed it down. It was only a matter of minutes, before he would be here. She had a solid trust in him. She’d make the announcement with or without him anyway."Because tonight," she continued, her voice gaining strength, "I want to introduce you all to the man who will be by my side, not just as my Alpha, but as my mate."A simultaneous gasp boomed across the crowd. They all probably weren't expecting the Omega to be mated so soon or to even find a mate at all.Well, jokes on them; River thought inwardly. As if the heavens were working on her side today, Gonzalo stepped in. The smile that appeared on River’s face once she sighted him was big enough to swallow her small frame whole. He stood there by the entrance with a stoic countenance. His eyes scanned the room before finally settling on her. River waved at him with excitement, but there was no warmth in his gaze - no spark of recognition. It was a look of…something else entirely. River couldn't decipher it, but it sent a wave of worry through her. Not today, Gonzalo; she thought. She however reprimanded herself to commence with her speech. She turned to him, her hand reaching out. All eyes followed her gaze and landed on the figure who was standing neutrally beside the entrance."Gonzalo McGruff," she finally announced, her voice steady despite the unease in her heart. "My future mate."Silence descended upon the room right after. It was as though everyone needed a minute to process the information. Then, a slow clap echoed from beside Echo. It was followed by another, and another until a hesitant applause filled the air.River ignored the oddity of the applause and beamed at Gonzalo. "Come, say hello to everyone!" she beckoned, her smile wavering slightly. But Gonzalo didn't move. Instead, his gaze shifted to Echo, a whiff of something akin to pity washing over his conduct. He took a step forward. However, it wasn't towards River, but towards her sister.River swallowed a lump down a throat. Something was wrong, she could feel it.A wave of nausea washed over her. The room seemed to tilt on its axis. The music also began to fade into a distant buzz. Her smile faltered and her heart plummeted into her stomach. She wanted to understand what was going on straight away. As if Gonzalo could read her mind…"Actually," he said with a calm and clear voice, silencing the room once more. "There seems to be a slight misunderstanding. I am not here with River."No. No. No.A sob escaped River's lips.Did Gonzalo just reject her?As if that wasn't enough, Gonzalo dropped yet another bombshell. “I didn't want it to be like this, trust me. But you wouldn't give me a chance to explain to you. I can't take in a weak mate. My pack needs a strong Luna. I tried to tell you, but you— well, you are too naive to allow me to speak my mind. Echo and I have been friends since little and since I got back here, we've seemed to uh…” He turned to Echo. “Bond. I'm sorry it had to be this way, pequena. You are like a little sister that I care about, but not as a mate.”How dare he call her that?Pequena? She wasn't his little one. Not anymore. She was never his little one. She had been reveling in a make-believe that she had created for herself and had failed to see reality for what it was.Hell, she even threw herself at him. Gave him her body and he took it. Gonzalo– he took it.The room began to spin. The faces of everyone around began to dissolve into a blur in River’s eyes. Hot tears streamed down her cheeks, blurring her vision. She couldn't stay here, not another moment. Her betrothed had just rejected her. Her sister too– she betrayed her. Of everyone who could do this to her, Echo would never have made it to that list when River was concerned. But like Gonzalo had said, she might have just been too naive. Too foolish. Her heart sank. Her bones were weakening. She wanted to flee. She needed to flee. But before River could flee, Echo spoke with a slight trembling voice. "Gonzalo… I told you not to...”He cut her off, but if River didn't know better, she could have thought she heard some hidden pain in his voice.“Echo. It's now or never. She has to know to stop her childish fairytales, and that's what I did. I told her as it should be!”Disbelief choked the air out of River, leaving her gasping like a fish out of water. She needed to trust in Echo. Her sister wouldn't do this to her.Her gaze darted towards Echo, searching for a sign of amusement in them. Perhaps, a hint that this was all some joke. That Gonzalo was pulling a fast one on her.But Echo's face remained blank. It wasn't amusement, nor was it a triumphant countenance. It was a cold, lonesome neutrality in Echo’s eyes that sent a wave of nausea crashing over River."Echo," River's shook as a plea escaped her lips. "Tell me it's a lie. Please, Echo. Just say it's not true."But Echo wouldn't meet her gaze. An abrupt emo
A tingling sensation began to spread through River’s body and was soon followed by a low hum that reverberated from deep within the safe. The carved symbols thumped with blue light, and then, with a click, the safe door swung open.It worked!Relief washed over River as jubilant laughter escaped her lips regardless of all the shits going on around her now. Her mother's letter was wrapped in a leather pouch. It lay nuzzled on a silver linen in the safe. She sighed happily, picking it up. “Here you are.”But the sound of approaching footsteps ruined the moment for her. “Argh. What do they want?!” She hollered to herself with gritted teeth.Glancing at the door, she saw shadows stretching across the floor. Time was running out.“Shit!”She hastily grabbed the pouch and slammed the safe shut. It didn't matter if Echo and Gonzalo were coming for her for God knows why. She had what she came for.Turning on her heel, she sprinted towards the window with her heart pounding in her chest. J
River squeezed her eyes shut as panic kicked straight into her. Perhaps, if she lay low, these two groups would fight, kill, or harm each other, and she’d have the chance to escape. It was like seeing her two enemies fight one another, doing all the work for her. Hence, she held her breath, straining to hear the approaching footsteps. The sounds of approaching footsteps grew louder, torturing River with it. Any moment now, Echo's men would burst into the clearing, and the inevitable clash with the rogue wolves would begin. But was she totally safe from it?Caught between a rock and a hard place, she realized escape wasn't the only worry. Being caught in the crossfire was just as likely. As predicted, two figures emerged from the trees, dressed in the Ironclaw Pack’s warrior uniforms. A growl erupted from one of Echo’s men who was a hulking figure with a thick beard. River recognized him. He was the one Echo usually sent on important missions. Did that mean she was important to E
With contempt contorting her face, “I'm not a human.” River spat at him.As though it was written in her blood otherwise, he moved closer to her and sniffed her in even more like some hard drug. “You smell like one.” He finally said with a voice that held both the mixture of masculinity and femininity. “Well, I'm not. Anyway, it's none of your business. Give me back my letter. I have to get out of here.” River pressed on, left hand outstretched. He glanced at the letter in his hand for a brief moment, River noticing how long his lashes were. And then, like a robot, he turned and began to walk away with her letter in hand!River cursed under her breath before running after him. “Hold your horses right there! What in the hell are you doing picking up someone’s letter and walking away with it like it's yours?!” She hollered.Had she not supposed to be hiding from rogues and whatever dangerous creatures might be in these woods, River would have screamed at him at the topmost of her voice
After the promise, he took River inside. She stumbled in after him, blinking against the sudden gloom growing in her. She shouldn't be particularly sad by this delay as she initially had no destination in mind in the human world too. It didn't matter what day she got there. As long as she was away from Gonzalo and Echo, she was good. “You do know this is called bullying, don't you? Snatching me from the woods, finding my letter, and not just returning it to me like a gentleman would. But instead conjuring a bargain just to return to me what is rightfully mine! ” She scoffed, ranting and throwing her hands in the air. When he gave her no replies, she was about to yell out some more protests when the sight in front of her - as they walked into the mansion sent it right back into her throat. The interior of the mansion was even worse than the exterior. It was a lonesome landscape of peeling wallpaper, cobwebs thick enough to hang this bloody vampire on, and furniture surrounded by whi
Petrified that he had snuck up behind her, River’s fall to the floor was nasty. “So, who's the thief here?" He mocked, his voice echoing in the dark living room. “You, sneaking around after my property." River felt her cheeks burn. "Your property, okay. But what about my property? My property," she retorted, "that you took from me in the first place! It's not stealing if it's mine to begin with." He snorted, but even his snort sounded devilish. "Fine, argue semantics all you want. But you're not leaving here without fulfilling your end of the bargain." With a grunt, he tossed items at her – a mop thudded against her leg, a broom clattered to the floor beside it. A rag, a bottle of potent-smelling detergent, and a bucket followed in quick succession. "Get to work," he commanded with a darkened gleam in his crimson eyes. "The sooner you're done, the sooner you can be on your way." Yeah, right. Like she didn't want to get the hell out of here as soon as possible too. River scowled
SEVEN YEARS LATER~~As River scurried through the maze of hallways in the mansion, she suddenly remembered the meeting. The De la Mort family had called for a meeting of all the family members. Whenever they did this, the entire household was usually quiet as they’d spend hours and hours arguing, cursing, agreeing, and disagreeing with each other.River remembered the last time her daughter went to eavesdrop on them during the meeting and she went to get her…“Oh, please. Everyone knows you're all talk, and no action, brother!”“Sister, at least, I have never for once fallen in love with a human. Imagine loving a snack, but you, sister…”Argh. Mere thinking of their unending bruhahas was annoying enough. River shoved it off her head and focused on how they ended up catching her and her daughter while she went to get her the last time. And… they were punished. The punishment usually entailed producing a cup of their blood every day for a week for the whole family to dine with. River wo
Gonzalo McGruff~~The sound of the door creaking behind them as they stepped in filled the room. Echo stood by the door, a hand on her hips while she tapped on the floor with her legs.“It must feel weird to be back here, Gonzalo.” She said with a faint smile.Weird? It felt worse than weird. This was where it all happened. Here, with River, under the soft sheen of the moonlight that streamed through the grimy window. He could almost picture her there again.Standing there, exuding youth innocence and throwing herself at him. Him being a dick and unable to resist. He could still remember that night. Hell, he could picture it like it was yesterday.Maybe because it’d been haunting him for a while now. But why this room of all rooms? Had Echo forgotten? He forced a smile. "Weird," he managed to say. "Weirder than I thought it would be. Would it be possible for me to have another room?”Echo’s smile faltered. “Another room? Gonzalo, you know that’s impossible. We just took in survivors
The air was filled with noises of music and laughter later that night. Every civilian member of the new Moon claw pack got dressed in their best wears as they swarmed the old Iron claw pack house in their numbers. The pack house itself was filled to the brim with people chattering and laughing among themselves. The large hall which was the venue of the celebration was decorated with d colorful disco light up ahead as a slow jazz music played in the DJ played a soft jazz music. Meanwhile, River was a little nervous as she got dressed with the help of Calantha, Claire and some maids. "Luna, relax, you look great." Claire assured her with a warm smile as she put the finishing touches on her wavy auburn hair. She was seated, facing a mirror, tapping her foot nervously as she looked up at the clock. "He hasn't picked up his phone in an hour. What if something came up?" She paused, her eyes lingering on the shimmering red dress she wore. "Besides, I don't think red is really my color...
The days moved fast again until the day finally came. The day of the celebration for the creation of the new Moon claw pack. River woke up that morning, stretching lazily on her bed. Today was special for three reasons actually. There'd be a full moon tonight and then the celebration for the creation of the pack.Wolves from both sides of the territory would be coming together in the old Iron Claw's pack house to celebrate. The place where it'd all begun…But also, today was the day of the official opening of 'Luna's Delight '. The restaurant had been set for days now, but River wanted a big opening. One that would coincide with a day of celebration.Gonzalo was currently at his side of the pack, preparing some things. They were constructing a new pack house, one that would represent the essence of their new pack while also giving the both of them a chance to stay together again. She already missed her charming Spanish prince, even though they'd last seen the previous morning. She g
ONE WEEK LATER . Things were looking good ever since their declaration for a joint pack. The new pack of 'Moon Claw' observed days of celebrations after the announcement. As for River, well, she finally did something she'd been meaning to do in a while. "Ta da!" She exclaimed excitedly, after taking off the blind folds from Gonzalo and Rain's faces. What stood before them was a large building with only a group floor and a neon sign board that read "Luna's Delight". It was still under construction—some site workers still going around and adding finishing touches, but it was basically done. It was a restaurant. Her very own restaurant situated at the border between old IronClaw and old Moonstone. They both gasped in surprise, looking between her and the building repeatedly. After a while, Gonzalo rushed up to her, lifting her in a hug. "Ugh. Pequena, I'm so happy for you! Your dreams are finally a reality." He blurted excitedly before dropping her to the ground. "I m
Hand in hand, River and Gonzalo walked out of the pack house, trailing behind Claire. As they did, they were greeted by civilians, all showing their respect and gratitude for their Alpha. "Thank you for saving us, Alpha Gonzalo!" "He's a hero. I got to see my son again because of him." A woman muttered to her friend with a grateful tone. "And look, isn't that River of the IronClaw pack?" "Apparently, it's 'Alpha River' now. She rules over her pack now." A man who'd been staying in River's pack provided casually. "What? Since when?" "Who cares? We wouldn't have gotten our pack back without her help too. They're both heroes." A blush crept up her face when she heard those words. She tried ignoring them like Gonzalo, but she just couldn't. Knowing that these people saw her as their hero brought pride to her heart. She was beyond touched. They finally got to the town square, which was packed to the brim with pack members. Men, women, and children from all works of life were gat
An old quote River once read says: "The aftermath of war is not just about rebuilding, but also reconnecting with what we love and stand for". Well, there was a lot of reconnecting and rebuilding to do, and the war wasn't over yet. They still had one more thing to do. They had to reclaim Gonzalo's territory from the rogues. "It's a simple plan. No diversions. No baits. And most of all, we're killing every rogue in sight." River spoke calmly as she drew a circle around a part of a large map where Gonzalo's territory lay. The moonstone pack's citizens have been seeking refuge in the IronClaw pack for a while, courtesy of the fake Echo, but there were still some imprisoned back in the pack by the rogues. Gathered in the dimly lit meeting hall were River and her advisors, which included Old Man Thomas, Gonzalo, Calantha, Claire from the rebellion, and also two other men from the rebellion. They stood around a table, their faces stern with one thing in mind. Victory. "I've sent spies
River woke up the next morning, her body aching like an old woman's. Last night was wild! She and Gonzalo literally had hours of 'naked cuddle sessions ' from dusk till dawn. She turned to look at the clock. Eleven AM! Shit, time goes by fast when you're overrun with pleasure! She tried getting up but only then realized that she was lying on top of Gonzalo's chest, his arms wrapped around her naked body. The man was drained, and she couldn't help feeling bad. Her face flushed with embarrassment when she remembered how she'd repeatedly used magic to increase his vigor and stamina whenever he reached orgasm. It was like having infinite strength, but there was only so much magic could do when it was used to offset the natural balance of a wolf's anatomy. The constant use of magic on both of them had them drained. Would they even be able to do anything today? Just then, Gonzalo turned, but his grasp on her body didn't lessen in the slightest. He blinked awkwardly as his eyes trie
Warning: Mature content The days after the battle at BloodHill were rather peaceful. River and Gonzalo enjoyed that moment of peace, using it to reconnect with themselves and also to spend more time with Rain. Emphasis on the ‘’reconnecting’ though. Their nights had been more steamier than ever, and they had some of the best sex since they took over IronClaw. Good moon goddess, have mercy, if she could just stay all night and all day having sex with her man, she would. But sadly, she had her duties as Alpha to attend to. And it was an unrealistic wish anyway. Unless…...“You want us to do what?” Gonzalo blurted out again when they'd entered their room one night and were about to get freaky. He arched his eyebrows in surprise, looking at her like she'd said the vilest thing known to werewolf, witch, heck even vampire kind. River purred playfully, as her hands went up his chest. “Come on, think about it. If I'm able to use my magic to increase your stamina, we'll be able to go
Warning: Some graphic scenesCalantha was relentless, as she bared her fangs at the rogue wolves, managing to intimidate a lot of them. She jumped down from the elevated area, causing the rogues on the ground to make way. The other four of her brethren also jumped down, snarling viciously at the rogues, but most especially the rogue witches who'd just lost two sisters.River smirked. That was her cue. She'd managed to gather enough magic up to that point and wiggled her fingers, concentrating all of it on her chains. It took some effort, but eventually, the chains fell off like threads, startling the rogue wolves watching over her and Gonzalo.“What the–?” The female rogue who she'd mind-controlled for that brief moment looked at her with bulged eyes and was about to draw out her weapon. However, River was faster as she brought out the two daggers strapped to her thighs, slashing the rogue on the chest first and then on her neck. It was so swift and the rogue was speechless, as she
The cave indeed had a large interior. The ceiling was lined with jagged stalactites, hanging over them like giant icicles and casting eerie shadows on them. The cave was lit up by several fire torches, and also by a large hole carved into the ceiling, which allowed moonlight to glimmer down like a wave, falling directly on a stone altar. The cave was filled with even more rogue wolves and was blossoming with activities. However, it all died down when the others from outside brought in River and Gonzalo. "Brethren!" The old hag raised her staff into the air triumphantly. "Behold, the hybrid Alpha of the IronClaw pack and her mate, the fallen Alpha of the Moonstone pack! The ones responsible for taking our hold on the IronClaw territory."The rogue wolves snarled, throwing a torrent of curses at River and Gonzalo. They dropped them to the ground, forcing her to kneel while Gonzalo lay there, groaning as his face hit the ground. Ignoring their plight, the 'maiden' of the trio of witche
