“What is wrong with me?”

The Scarlet Sky pack doctor jumped at the eerily calm voice of his Alpha.

“Nothing, your greatness. You seem exemplarily well and healthy.” Uri Frost replied timidly.

Alpha Reagan Lorde let out a maniacal laugh.

Uri gulped and laughed nervously with him.

Reagan’s laugh died down abruptly and his lips curled into a glare while poor Uri was trembling all over again.

“So, are you telling me I am sick in the head and imagining a pain so severe as if my heart is being clawed out of my chest?” He asked in his eerily calm voice again.

“Of course not, your greatness. There must be some other explanation. If only the oriental healer was here, but he almost died last week when you-”

The glare intensified and Uri shut up.

“Bring him here.” He said.

“But, sire, Sir Frederick is not in a condition-”

Another glare.

“Of course, your greatness. We will bring him here first thing in the morning.”

Reagan tsked. “That’s not good enough. Bring him here now.”

Uri nodded shakily and quickly exited the room, not daring to turn his back on his Alpha.

He quickly sprinted to the infirmary block and wheeled oriental healer Frederick Gnome back to the Alpha’s wing.

“What is it, Ray?” Sir Frederick had no fear of the tyrannical Alpha even though he had gotten him very close to seeing the Grim Reaper just last week.

“My name is Alpha Reagan Lorde.” Reagan gritted out. “Do I need to remind you of it again, Frederick?”

Frederick turned and gestured for Uri to leave the room. The doctor hesitated for just a moment - what if it was Sir Frederick’s corpse that he saw next?

“Go.” The one word from the Alpha was all it took for the pack doctor to stop worrying about the old man’s life and worry about his own.

The wolf was out the door, closing the soundproof iron behind him.

“What is it?” Frederick asked.

Reagan narrowed his eyes. “Did that tool not tell you?”

Of course, the tool in question had told him, but Frederick wanted the pile of ego and evil to ask for help with his own mouth.

“No,” He smirked. “Poor pup was in a hurry to get me here before you decapitated him.”

Reagan glared at the older man.

“My chest. It hurts.” He gritted out.

“You are in your prime. And werewolves don’t usually get heart attacks.”

“I know that.” Reagan barked out. “If I wanted to hear a repeat of what I already know, I would just record it, wouldn’t I? I wouldn’t have to call in the so-called oriental healer of the pack for that!”

Frederick let out a laugh, annoying the Alpha whose claws came out.

“I take it that you did what I advised you against doing?” He asked. “The one that got me in this condition?” He gestured to the wheelchair he was seated on.

Reagan grunted. “I never asked for your advice. And if a werewolf takes a week to heal from a small beating despite being the oriental healer, then he deserves to die.”

Frederick hissed, rubbing his chest. “That was a blow right here.” Then he smirked, “Pretty sure this hurts less than how much you must have hurt!”

He started to guffaw while Reagan glowered at the old wolf, feeling better enough to be back on his feet.

“I am not here to listen to your bullshit!” He growled, his wolf showing. “Why am I in pain?”

“Because you went against the very Moon Goddess, Ray.” Frederick knew when to stop. He had stepped one foot too close to Reagan last week and that had gotten him on the waiting list to the afterlife. “I told you that you cannot mark some ordinary she-wolf as your mate!”

“Many wolves do it!” He glared. “And any she-wolf is better than that worm I had gotten for a mate. And I have taken care of her as well.”

Frederick shook his head. “Many wolves may do it. But you are no normal wolf, are you? You are an Alpha. And any she-wolf is better than her? Son, you are talking about the great Alpha Naturale of Crescent Moon Pack. She is no ordinary she-wolf. She holds in her the boon of utmost prosperity.”

Reagan let out a mocking laugh. “Again with that bullshit! Crescent Moon is one of the ancient outdated packs that still believes in the so-called Crowning of the Alpha Naturale. And it is the only reason she is Alpha. Otherwise, a weak female like her would never become the Alpha.”

Frederick chuckled as he played with the black diamond ring on his finger. “Is that so? In that case, why don’t you attack her pack?”

“What?” Reagan raised a brow.

“Crescent Moon is a prosperous pack, rich with vegetation, topography perfect for fortresses and located in a prime region nestled between mountains and the sea.” He spoke. “That’s just the pros of the land. The members are educated in combat, healing, and foraging. They are neo were-wolves. I dare you to take over them. Take their land and take their loyalty.”

Reagan’s lips curled into a crooked grin. “Is that a challenge, Freddie?”

Frederick shrugged. “I guess it is.”

The Alpha smirked. “I was bored. It is high time for a wolf hunt. I guess I should reward you for the idea.”

“Just fulfill a wish of mine.” The old man said without missing a beat.

“What is it?”

“Give me unlimited rights to advise you.” He said.

Reagan snorted, thinking for a moment, and then nodded. “Sure, you can have it. But remember, you will advise does not mean that I will follow it.”

Frederick nodded.

With a new agenda in hand, the egoistic wolf left his bedroom, mind-linking his Beta in the dead of the night.

They had an easy scrap of land to attain.

Uri stepped inside, unaware of the reason behind the Alpha’s sudden good mood.

“Have you healed him?” He asked the oriental healer. “What was wrong with him?”

“The only thing wrong with him is the poison of ego and hatred that bubbles in his heart,” Frederick muttered and then looked over at the open window where the Moon Goddess shined in all her glory. “I am sending him to her. Protect them from each other, my grace. And maybe give my boy a second chance. Please.”
