It was love at first sight.

Ammy had never experienced such a thing before. Half the time she couldn't even really tell what love was. It was a conflicting and confusing emotion that was nothing but trouble, in the end. To love is to destroy and to be loved is to be destroyed. Love meant pain.

But when she saw her sitting there, opposite her in the diner, drinking a chocolate milkshake and staring at her with large, curious eyes, Ammy realized what love at first sight was. She instantly fell in love with Mandy when he saw the frightened little girl sitting there, small and subtly threatened. Every instinct in Ammy told her to protect. It was an omega thing.
