My mom had fought like hell to come to the island, but dad made her stay home with Meadow. I was glad for it, she’d be a distraction.

I slept awful in the stupid tent, listening to Hunter snore … I mean it was on the lighter side but still! I was used to sleeping next to a man that didn’t breathe and made no noise. Oh hell, who was I kidding? I had only been sleeping next to pillows now for so long.

It was just wearing on me, I was cranky and sexually frustrated beyond belief. There was so much uncertainty around tonight, around Godfrey’s health.

I was not really included in any of the planning and some of it seemed pretty farfetched. I really didn’t get how they were going to summon Fiona’s spirit here, or this Ketet … I mean what if they just didn’t come? How could Ben compel them? I didn’t understand much about witches and Godfrey never made it a point to teach me.
