Chapter 2

Author: No Questions Asked
Out with the old, in with the new, as one would put it.

Ted had no idea when he left Lunacorp, but he clearly saw how people were looking at him and what they were commenting among themselves.

None of them blamed Luna for divorcing him, as all of them put the blame on Ted for being a loser who did not deserve Luna at all.

Whatever had happened to this world, really?

Ted headed downstairs and was going to get his car when he remembered that Luna had bought it too.

He smiled bitterly, shaking his head and handing the keys over to a security guard, telling him to return it to Luna.

He said that he did not want anything from Luna, and he would keep that promise.

While he was not as wealthy as Luna, he had never spent a dime of her money.

In fact, he was the one who had financed Luna's family initially.

As he looked back now, the past was nothing but a memory.

Things remained the same, but the people had changed.

As he walked home, he felt dampness on his cheek and looked up to see snowflakes slowly floating down overhead.

It had been years since Melville had seen snow, but it was snowing now.

-

Meanwhile, Luna's family was gathered at No. 18, Lake Garden Villas.

Luna's mother, Wendy, was pacing around anxiously, as if she was the one going through the divorce.

"So, is there any news yet?" she huffed. "Josie said that Luna finally made up her mind to divorce that loser—it should be done by now, right?"

Luna's father, Thomas, was smoking cigarette after cigarette with a troubled look in his eyes, and he sighed. "Is this really appropriate? Ted's a good kid and he really took good care of us. Wouldn't Luna get scorned for this?"

If men who abandoned their wives once they got rich were hated, would the same not happen to women?

However, Wendy was snapping coldly at him right then, "We don't owe him shit! We've long since repaid whatever we owed him! And over the years, when has he not been leeching off us?! You and your nonsense, old-timer! It's Ted York's own fault for being a loser—how is that our daughter's fault?!

"Don't forget—it's everyone else who's been saying that he doesn't deserve our daughter! So many people have been persuading Luna to divorce that loser, so you don't have to worry about what others say. Hell, they'd be applauding her."

Dean, Luna's twentyish younger brother, chuckled as he lay on the couch just then. "Mom's right—I've been so fed-up with Ted for so long now. He's in his thirties, but he doesn't have a job and has always leeched off Luna. On top of that, he keeps lecturing me!

"Hah! I would've slapped his face off if he wasn't my brother-in-law… but it's over now! If he dares to run his mouth in front of me again, we'll see what I'll do to him!"

Thomas sighed in turn—he was constantly bullied by his wife, but he also had to agree with what she was saying.

Still, he pointed out, "I mean, what if Ted refuses? It would look bad if they took it to court."

"He dares refuse?!" Wendy snarled right then, her eyes flashing murderously. "What does he want? Claim every dime that my daughter has worked blood and sweat to earn?! He really wants to leech off a woman for life! Hah! He can dream on—if that's what he really wants, then I have money, and it's just one life!"

Thomas frowned right then. "Watch it. Don't ever say that again, or we'd get in trouble if people hear about this."

Wendy knew that she had misspoken too, but what did she have to fear when she was in the safety of her own home?

Snorting, she huffed, "Who's going to tell on me? You? Whatever—everything I said is the truth, and don't forget that people would kill for just over a couple mil. And my daughter's rich, so quit behaving like a loser… Either way, she will divorce Ted. And if that loser screws around, I'll show him!"

Before Thoams could speak, the phone rang.

Wendy quickly answered and was soon laughing endlessly.

As she hung up, she exclaimed excitedly, "It's done! Ted signed it!"

Thomas smiled too—when everything was said and done, he would still support Luna's move to divorce Ted.

Dean, who was beginning his career as a rich playboy in Melville, sprang up from the couch, his eyes twinkling.

On the other hand, Wendy was frowning after her initial excitement. "But Josie also said Luna is paying a lot in alimony. It's not just their car and the villa—she's even paying him millions and giving him the restaurant down central street! And it's money! Our money!"

Even before Thomas could speak, Dean was roaring in furious disapproval, "What?! The villa too?! That's almost ten million we're talking about!! Definitely not the villa, and not cash either! As for the restaurant, there's no chance in hell! That place rakes in so much every day! It isn't right! That's our money—our family's money!"

Dean turned toward Wendy, his eyes suddenly teary. "Mom, you're always complaining that I'm freeloading, right? Then let me be the manager of that restaurant! Forget you and Dad—Luna wouldn't let any of us work at Lunacorp and only gives us money from time to time. Why is she giving Ted so much at once?! That's unfair! I can't deal with this… No! This isn't happening!

"We're Luna's family, Mom! You gave birth to her and raised her, but she's dumping everything to someone outside the family! I don't care—you must do something about this!"

Wendy was livid too and gritting her teeth as she looked at her son. "You're right. There's no reason for some outsider to benefit from us. I won't agree to this either."

On the other hand, Thomas sighed again.

He felt pained too, but he was more or less rational as he reasoned, "Stop it already. It's not like we need that money. It pains me to see it gone too, but Ted's already signed the papers, so less trouble is always better, or we'd get more than what we bargained for."

Wendy promptly snapped at him, "You're such a loser! Why do we even keep you around?! How generous of you, handing off dozens of millions just like that?! You must be crazy!

"Come on, Dean. We're going to see Luna—I doubt she'd fight against me over some loser she just divorced. Let's see if she still considers her mother!"

Dean's eyes lit up at first, but he cringed at the idea of seeing Luna. "W-Would she really listen? Wouldn't she get upset?"

Wendy paused for a moment but soon gritted her teeth. "She'd never dare! I gave birth to her—why wouldn't I dare lecture her? And her behavior has made me very upset! Hell, if she refuses, I'll make her give you something too. Don't worry—what's hers is mine, and what's mine is yours! And Ted York wants to take it away?! Dream on!

"Come on—we'll talk to your sister first, and then Ted! How dare that loser take so much money from us! He'd better hand over everything without a fight, or he won't be alive to spend it!"

With that, Dean happily followed Wendy outside, emboldened by her support and his own self-important attitude.

Thomas was left alone, frowning and sighing.

However, none of them was aware that Ted never wanted anything from Luna—he just went back to pack up his belongings.

After all, he had been staying there for two years and had plenty of personal effects, which could not be packed up and moved that soon.

The seemingly empty luxury villa was filled with sweet memories, but it only brought Ted pain now.

As he sat on the couch, Ted lit himself a cigarette despite having quit smoking for years.

Even as smoke swirled around his cheek, a tear seemed to trickle down…

That was when a million dollar sedan stopped outside the guarded villa compound.

A bodyguard alighted, asked where Ted lived, and did not stop the car from driving into the villa district.

Naturally, the security was not going to stop anyone traveling in such an expensive car.

Most importantly, they could recognize that it was owned by the Grahams, a very important family here in Melville.

The Grahams also owned shares in the security firm they owned, so would they not be asking to be fired if they stopped their boss' car?

Although the bodyguard got Ted's address, he was hesitant as he glanced at the youth in the backseat. "Sir, wouldn't Master Graham be upset if he finds out that you came looking for Mr. York?"

The twentyish youth in the backseat was Lucas Graham, who had long since established himself among the rich and privileged kids of Melville.Seeing the bodyguard's hesitance, he merely snorted in annoyance. "My dad's devastated over my mom's illness, and he's too distraught to make time to visit Ted York. And who knows if Ted's actually the miracle healer they say he is, so I came to probe him, or Dad would just be even more devastated if he turns out to be a fraud."The bodyguard did not dare argue at that and merely reminded him, "Your father also mentioned that it's the White family of Eastport who tipped him about Ted York being a miracle healer. There's no mistaking that, but it seems that Mr. York has also kept his identity hidden from the public. I'm concerned that visiting him unannounced would get the man upset…"Lucas smirked in turn. "The White family's tip should be solid, but it's not entirely believable either. I mean, how many people these days are eager to garner fam

You have to be careful."Lucas simply laughed coolly. "So what if he isn't? What can he do to me?"Hell, there are many people in Melville who hate me. But I'm alive and kicking, aren't I? And what could that prick do to me, when he doesn't know anything aside from medicine?"Neither bodyguard dared to say a word, seeing how conceited Lucas was. However, they felt the creeps even as they remembered the sensation, as if a viper was leering at them, and even now, they hoped that they had merely imagined it.Lucas, who was completely oblivious, remained gleeful."Hah! And the old man and the White family put it as if Ted York is beyond reach or something, but I got him good, didn't I? The way I see it, those geezers are just being too nice—he's a complete pushover, and handling him couldn't be easier."It's Melville, so hi

Ted was packing up while John was hurrying to his villa. While he did not have that many possessions, they were not that few either—aside from laundry, he would be taking his stationery, art tools, and art pieces. After all, those actually belonged to Ted, and he refused to take anything that was not bought with his money. However, his heart was really broken. In and around the spacious villa were the beautiful memories of his loving marriage, but though the place stayed the same, the people had changed.Ted sighed softly, but just as he picked up his luggage to leave, his phone rang."Excuse me, is this Mr. Theodore Quill?"The mere mention of the name left Ted's eyes flashing, the air around him changing dramatically.Suddenly, he was a lofty king, and none would ever dare to meet his eyes."You've got the wrong number. I'm not Mr. Quill."He was ready to hang up, only to be surprised when the voice on the other end chuckled. "Why, yes—you go by the name Ted York now. Oh, I

Had no right to call her mother? Why did Wendy not say that years ago?Even if her family was rich now, there should be a limit to how quickly she turned against him.Back then, Luna's family were bogged down by debt, and every day had been a struggle. Even their friends and relatives gave them a wide berth, terrified that they would ask for a loan.At that time, who was the one who had cleared their debts and afforded them a life where they did not have to worry about their basic necessities? One might even say that Luna's family were living in hell before, and Ted was the one who had taken them to paradise. But now?In fact, Ted never held out much hope and was just used to being respectful since they came anyway. And that respect only got him such an insult—this shall not stand!"In that case, there's nothing else to say." Ted snorted. "There's nothing connecting me to Luna, and it's the same for you two. This is my house—please leave."Wendy simply laughed.Leave?

John was absolutely frustrated with all the things he wanted to say but could not with Dean and Wendy around. It was not a matter of pride either, but concern that he had exposed Ted's true identity against his will. And yet, he had to speak up because Ted was set on revenge. The dilemma could turn John's hair white, but that was when Wendy asked, "Who are you? You dress rich and drive a nice car… What, did you upset him or something?"Hearing that, John quickly said, "I had a favor to ask of you, Mr. York, but my foolish son ended up insulting you, so I've brought him here to apologize."Turning, he shouted at the car, "Get over here already, you wretch!"Lucas had certainly never been this humiliated, being tied up so tightly and having to walk as the public watched, his face swollen after his father beat him repeatedly. He could hide in a hole right then, but he did not dare to disobey his father.Still, he was laughing as soon as he got out of the car—he thought he was unlu

Pantera smiled. He had been worried Ted would conceal the identity of this woman who had dumped him, only for this Panther of Melville to come running in and mention her out of the blue.It was a huge coincidence, but Pantera frowned at Panther's rude entrance without a knock. He stayed quiet, since Panther was supposedly Ted's friend, and waited to see how Ted reacted—even though Panther didn't really look like a friend.Wolfie, meanwhile, rolled his eyes and glared at Panther like he was an idiot. He knew a bit of the state of Easton's underworld and had more or less heard of Panther. He was at best a little infamous and didn't bolster much strength… to put it harshly, Mr. Zarkonnen and the others really didn't care about him.And while Wolfie wouldn't have cared what Panther did to Ted before, things were different now.As such, both Wolfie and Pantera stayed silent, waiting to see what Ted would do.That was when Ted frowned at Panther and asked quietly, "Panther, you say?

While he thought nothing of it before, having been around Ted and seeing the things happening around him left him questioning if Luna Lambert was really worthy of Ted.Finding a man like Ted was nothing less than a miracle against all odds, yet Luna dumped him, just like that? She had to be deranged…Nonetheless, Ted, smiling, asked quietly, "When have I ever joked about

Meanwhile, Panther put away his phone and looked up at the sign that said 'Charity Hearts', hesitant if he should barge in to capture Ted York or wait outside. He couldn't make a scene, not in Eastport—Luna notwithstanding, he himself was reluctant, as things could go bad if his presence there became known.Checking the time, he mused to himself for a moment before turning to his henchmen. "Do you think we should wait or go in?"Naturally, we have to be quiet even if we are grabbing him. Ideally, we should force Ted to come quietly so that no one notices."Panther's henchmen were left scowling at his question. How were they supposed to respond? Why were there so many restrictions when they were supposed to just grab one man?Sure, there were pros to going in, but that was only if Ted came quietly with them. One of them said, "If it were up to me, we should go in. Luna continued, "Moran Group has a strong influence in Easton, the family is not to be underestimated. Most importantly, they are a client we got with our own efforts, and that makes them our contact. If we want respect, we need to accomplish something on our own instead of relying constantly on others' connections."Josie nodded quietly, though she appeared hesitant. "Do we really have to? He's nothing good, and he was already lusting after you the first time. It'd be dangerous if we went straight into his turf."Leslie Moran's entire appearance was inherently sleazy—fiftyish, balding, and fat-bellied—but the man was somehow even sleazier than he looked. The prior breakdown of negotiations stemmed from Leslie's solicitation of sexual favors, including engaging in overtly frisky and vulgar conduct at the table.Just remembering it left Josie sick, as she had been molested herself. While Luna had the White family's protection, Leslie didn't know that, revealing his true nature.H

Upon Panther's arrival at Easton, Luna and Josie, having departed earlier, naturally arrived as well. However, they were still in Luna's car, and Josie promptly put Panther's call on speaker so Luna could hear everything.Orphanage? Orphans? Spending the whole morning playing?Luna was perplexed—did Ted lose his mind? Did he really think she wouldn't find him?And instead of fleeing, he ran off to be charitable? Did he truly have nothing better to do? Or perhaps he was hoping to build good karma?Still, she remained indifferent to Ted's true thoughts and promptly told Panther, "Just do as I said before. I don't care what you do as long as you grab and restrain him."Panther promptly nodded. "Alright, Ms. Lambert! Don't worry, I know what to do. It might take some time since you told us not to cause a scene, and this restaurant—Charity Hearts, is a little important, so we have to be smart about this. But don't worry, it will be done in an hour."Luna cared little about the proces

Would anyone believe it even if they were told? Naturally, there was a chance that it was true, but how important did the family have to be to actually disrespect someone like Pantera? And while Pantera knew nothing about Ted's personal life, Wolfie did all too well. The man wasn't just married—he was divorced, and to add insult to injury, he was labeled a loser and the one who got dumped. To Wolfie, it still felt like a dream. On top of that, he was interested to see how Luna Lambert would react upon discovering this. After all, the ex-husband whom she had deemed a loser turned out to be the former heir of the Quill family, a prominent guest of the White family, Viper Scorch's friend, and now, Pantera Medlar's esteemed boss.Still, it would most likely feel like a lottery winner who lost their ticket—they'd be wishing they were dead.On the other hand, Pantera's question left Ted in silence.Should he lie? No, that was unnecessary. And he wasn't afraid of embarrassing hims

When Ted York started laughing, Wolfie should have done the same, as should anyone given the opportunity to be acknowledged by a member of the Celestial Throne. But now, he didn't think of it that way. As soon as he found out about how mysterious and powerful Ted really was, he promptly threw away all his opinions and observations towards the man, because none of it was right.Seeing Ted's laugh now, Wolfie didn't perceive joy, but the same amusement he saw in Pantera.Still, Pantera actually couldn't quite catch up, and turned towards Ted as he blurted in disbelief, "I mean, I don't care how ambitious this Zarkonnen character is, but he really has the support of the East King and Lord Cloudrider? Haha! When did the Celestial Throne change its policy?"Pantera merely chuckled and eyed Wolfie. He couldn't say it because his presence might derail Ted's plan.Ted simply smiled faintly in return and said quietly, "People change, just as time changes a great many things… including pe

Pantera pursed his lips—what was wrong with Theodore the Magnificent? And it was certainly much better than 'Pants'!However, there was no helping it since Ted was the boss, and even if Pantera was himself a big deal to everyone else, he was still just an obedient henchman to Ted, a fact he would never dare argue.Ted chuckled just then. "Relax—no need to get so nervous, Wolfie. Just remember what I told you, and proceed as you should. It won't affect me if you spill the beans, but I'm going to be really upset. And if I'm upset, everything you begged for earlier won't count. Understood?""Remember the story I told you earlier? So cherish what you have and don't disappoint me."Regardless of whether Ted's words held weight, they were certainly preferable to no assurances.Wolfie was immediately profoundly grateful towards Ted, and he suddenly saw him in a different light. All the animosity and resentment Wolfie had previously harbored suddenly turned into boundless admiration for

It had to be a secret, but Ted wasn't keeping him out of the loop. What did that mean? Was he planning to silence him? Wolfie did not even dare to think. He tried nonetheless, "M-Mr. York, I don't mind dying, and I know I have no right to ask you for anything, but I owe Mr. Zarkonnen a tremendous debt and he saved my life on numerous occasions, and I couldn't repay him. All I can do is implore you to spare his life, and I will die without regret. Please find some mercy in your heart…"Ted sighed,
