Chapter Forty Two

Emily's POV 

I turned to Fayne and his lips parted. I looked further ahead and sighed, feeling my ability to smell come back to life. Suddenly, I was surrounded by floral scent which filled my senses.

“Guess the drink you gave me worked, Fayne. My sense of smell is back.”

“It is?” Fayne smiled at me and I nodded.

“I would like to try and run in my wolf form.” I said.

Fayne's eyes widened. “Alright.”

He turned around, hiding his gaze from my body. I removed my outer robe and shifted into my wolf, tearing my inner robes into shreds. My wolf felt completely free and I ran into the woods, feeling the air soak me in completely. For the first time, I felt completely covered in my essence. I was finally in touch with my inner self.

As my paws danced against the softness of the ground, I felt completely grounded and rooted.

“Where have you been all this while?” I asked my wolf.

“Although I was unconscious, I was always with you. Sorry I didn't connect with you sooner.”

I sobbed internally while moving through the woods.

“Will I be okay?”

“The real question is will we be okay?”

“Well, will we?” I asked.

“We will. Now that I'm back, I'll definitely not let you go through anything alone.”

“Thank you, Rose.” I responded to my wolf.

“It's been a while since you called my name.”

“Well, that's just the way things are now I guess.” 

I went back to my room and once I got in, I shifted back into my human form and closed the door.

I got to the bathroom to get dressed and when I was dressed, I ran my fingers through my hair and looked at my reflection in the mirror. 

Although I left Fayne out in the fields, I knew that he'd find his way back to his room.

I looked normal. 

When I was done staring at my reflection in the mirror, I opened my cupboard and pulled out a paper and an ink. I wrote a letter to my brother, Matteo.

Dear Matteo,

I would like to inform you that my wolf is back. Can we have an alliance?

I placed the letter on the desk when I was done and went to bed.

The next day, I woke up and took a shower and got dressed. Then I waited and Melissa came into my room.

“Luna, are you doing okay?” She asked me.

“Yes, I actually have a request for you.” 

“And what is that, Luna?” 

I got up from the bed I was sitting on and wrapped the letter in an envelope and handed it over to Melissa.

“Here, go and give it to Fayne. Tell him to send the letter to my brother, Matteo.”

“Okay.” She responded while taking the envelope from my hand and as she turned around to leave, I said, “Melissa, take care.”

She turned back to me and nodded.

I watched her leave, then i sighed.

I actually felt so much stronger after last night. I hoped to tell Melissa about it some other time.

I stepped outside of my room and walked down the hallway. Maybe I should go out for a run.

However, as I got outside, I saw Jacob by the side with a maid.

I listened to their conversation.

“Alpha, you just brought in your Luna. What could you possibly still want with me?”

“I want you, love. And just because she's my Luna doesn't mean anything, I don't even love her!”

I winced.

I already knew men couldn't be trusted but I didn't expect that it would be this bad. 

Was Jacob even willing to degrade me in front of a maid in order to cheat?

“Are you sure you don't love her, Alpha?” The maid asked him, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

“Of course not, I don't love her! In fact I'm using her.”

“Using her?”

“Yes.” He responded with a smile. He leaned forward and cupped the maid's cheeks.

“All I want is to build alliance with all the powerful women and men in this world. The moment I am done building my legacy, I will poison her and get rid of her.”

The maid gasped and looked around. “Alpha, be careful. What if someone ears?”

“I don't care. I'm the Alpha, no one dares cross me. Even if they hear this conversation, they wouldn't be willing to tell the Luna. They just don't have the guts.”

“Aww Jacob!” 

The maid gushed after Jacob and then leaned in to kiss him. The kiss lasted for a while but I could only turn away. I could not blame Jacob for getting with a new maid but it didn't make any sense that he would even want to kill me for it. There was no reason for him to do that. He even came to me and told me that he was willing to give me our relationship a chance but it turned out that he was only lying.

I went back to my room and sat on the bed.

Even though I knew that no one truly cared about it here, it still hurt watching it play out in real time. I was truly alone here.

My heart started to race and it made me scared but then I placed a hand on my chest and took in a deep breath.

I was embarrassed by Jacob, it was crazy. He could have just made out with the maid whenever he wanted but why did he have to embarrass me so much?

I sighed deeply but then I closed my eyes and take in a deep breath.

“He's coming.” I heard my wolf say.

I opened my eyes and patted the space around me, then I breathed in deeply.

Knock

“Hello, Emily. Are you in there?” I heard Jacob's voice.

I cleared my throat.

“Yes, please come in.” 

The door opened and Jacob walked in with a smile on his face. I could vaguely smell the cologne of the maid from earlier on him but I choosed not to say a word. Instead, I pulled over a smile on my face.
