Chapter Fifty Five

Emily's POV 

“That's nice of you, Esther. I wonder if the Alpha is going to give you a rank because of how you treated him.”

“I don't need a rank. I'm fine just the way that I am and besides I'm a nurse, I do well for myself.”

“Hmm, are you sure?” I asked her and she nodded.

“Of course, the Alpha has always been very generous and respectful of all. Anyway, I got to go now.”

As Esther turned away, my breath hitched in my throat.

I wanted to grab her and tell but instead I watched her leave. Then I went back into Jacob's office and looked through all the books and articles. I ended up spending the entire day there.

The next day, i was in my room meditating. When I was done, all of my wolf's senses were restored to me which made me feel happy. All I had to do now was go into the woods and strengthen my instincts for hunting.

I heard a knock on my door which made me happy. I opened the door and was very elated to see Melissa. She had her hair in a bun. Usually she would let her hair down. Seeing her hair in such a different pace made me excited for her.

“Luna,” She bowed.

I smiled at her. “Hey, what's good?”

“Um…” she trailed off.

“Your hair looks good,” I told her which made her grin.

“Thank you, Luna. I really appreciate it. By the way, is there something you need me for?”

“Not really.” I responded. “I just want to know how the beta is handling things.”

I figured if the Beta was heading the pack instead of me, it would be no problem if I went to the crystal pack with Matteo tomorrow.

“I’m sure he's doing quite well. By the way, Luna. I am quite sad that he's not even taking any directions from you.”

I smirked. “It's only normal because the beta has always been by the Alpha's side and knows more about the pack than I do. By the way, Jacob gave me the key to his office. I know many secrets about the pack now.”

Melissa sighed. “The Alpha wouldn't let you know anything worth real value.”

“Why?” I asked Melissa who looked around us nervously.

“First, let's go inside your room Luna. I have something to tell you about the late Luna. It's only right.”

“Okay,”

I opened the door widely for Melissa and let her into my room. Then we sat down at the table.

“So Melissa, what do I need to know?”

“The late Luna had an affair with the Beta.”

My jaw dropped and I gasped.

“What?”

“You must not tell anyone this.” Melissa said.

“Did Jacob know about this?” I asked and Melissa shook her head.

“I think they truly loved each other and ever since the late Luna died, he started overworking himself. Anyway, the reason I'm telling you this is because he can be an ally.”

“Right.” I sighed.

“Can you take me to go and see him?”

Melissa nodded.

We both stood up from the table and she led me to the fields where I saw the werewolves fighting each other in their human forms. It seemed to be a sort of practice.

“That’s the beta over there,” Melissa pointed to the dark haired man in the front with blue eyes and firm clothing. He looked incredibly gorgeous. I smiled. 

“He looks great,” I said and Melissa chuckled.

“He's training the werewolves.”

“I think that's a good thing. That way everyone will be safe.” I said and Melissa nodded, “You're right.”

“Let's go,” I said. 

Melissa's lips parted. “Why? Aren't you going to talk to him?”

“I'm going to do that when I'm more capable, let's go.”

“Okay.”

We walked back to my room and engaged in a conversation.

“Luna, how do you feel about what is going on right now?”

“What do you mean?” I asked her.

“Well, you're just settling in but I worry about you. I hope the Alpha hasn't tried anything with you.”

“Huh?” I asked and she cleared her throat.

“No he hasn't.” I said softly. “Anyway, I have an ally now. His name is Matteo and he's my brother. He may not be the best but I can use him.”

“Oh…”

“Tomorrow I'm going to travel to the crystal pack. Would you like to come with me?”

Melissa looked at me thoughtfully.

“Well, I feel like it's kind of your moment. I shouldn't ruin that for you.”

“It's okay, you can come with me.” I said.

Melissa smiled at me and nodded. “Thank you but I'd rather stay here so I can keep you informed on what happens when you get back.”

“Oh, you're right. We need all the information that we can get.”

“That's right.” 

Melissa smiled at me.

“Anyway, could you go get Fayne for me? I have something to discuss with him.”

“Of course, Luna.” She told me and stood up to her feet.

“Wait up, before you go…”

Melissa looked at me with curiousity. “What?”

I removed the crystal necklace the elderly woman had given me a long time ago from around my neck and handed it over to Melissa.

“Here, you can have this.” She gasped at me loudly.

“Really?!”

Her eyes were widened and she looked very adorable staring at me like that.

“Come on, have it.”

She gushed at me loudly and grabbed the crystal necklace from my hand and smiled.

“Wait, let me put it around your neck.” I offered.

“No thanks, I'd rather keep it for now. I don't want to draw any attention to myself. It could be disastrous to our plan.”

“That's right. I didn't think about that…” I trailed off.

“It's okay.”

I sensed movements behind the door and smelled Fayne's cologne.

“Fayne is coming so you don't have to call him here for me anymore.” I told Melissa.

“Oh,” she sighed, pausing and then nodding.

“You can go now.”

“Oh yeah.”
