Liora's POV “Miss Wilder, I'm afraid we no longer need your services for the Patterson's family. Mrs Patterson is pregnant!“ That sentence alone feels like a truck crushing my soul. I gulp, my heart splitting into tiny bits. I am happy for them. After trying for seven years, they have finally conceived their own child. But then, this means our contract is void. In moments like these, I'm tempted to ask God, why? There was just one week left to the insemination. All documents have been signed and processed. All medical exams conducted. I was supposed to bear the Patterson's heir for the sum of $500,000. Dang it. That money was supposed to change my life. With aunt's cancer in the first stage, Corinne–my younger sister's– college starting next month and my six-year-old Selina about to get into the first grade, that money was very necessary. Now I'm back to square one. Tears fill my eyes, which I struggle to blink back, trying not to show how hurt I am by the declaration. I am not successful. The doctor notices, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. “I understand how you feel. Don't worry, my dear, we'll try to find someone else as soon as possible. Since you are one of our best candidates, it shouldn't be hard.” I almost scoff but hold myself back. Find someone else? It isn’t like wealthy families turn up suddenly wanting a surrogate. These things take time. Months. I don’t have months. I need money. Walking out of his office, I finally let the tears fall. I'm such a disappointment. Dad's words flash through my mind. He was right. Always has been. Always will be. I just need to find a–”oomph,” I squeal as I'm shoved backwards by a strong force. My bag tumbles to the ground, but I barely pay it any attention. Instead, I choose to turn and give the idiot who pushed me a piece of my mind. “I am so sorry, miss. He's just in a hurry.“ A gentle voice says, bending with me to gather my belongings. “We all have somewhere to be. But we don't go pushing others to get there, right? Whoever that was, let him know he's an asshole." I grumble, seizing my pen from the gentleman's grasp. “I really apologize, ma'am. It wasn't intentional, I assure–” His words get cut off by a deep, guttural voice booming. “I want a baby, now!“ There's no way to avoid looking up. Not when that voice commands attention with the power radiating from it and bouncing off the walls of the lobby. I can only see the back of the bearer of the voice as he towers over the obviously frightened receptionist. It's not hard to understand why, not when the normally white and blue lobby is now painted black with numerous men in black suits, the earpieces in their ears giving off their identity as bodyguards. Oh. So he's a rich man. Guess the clinic is popular after all. “Sir I understand you. I do. Unfortunately working hours are over for today. You will have to return on Monday morning. Then we can begin the process as soon as–” Even I jump as he slams hard on the counter. “I do not have time to waste. I need a surrogate who will bear my child. Get me one now.“ Wait, what? I didn't take such a wealthy man to be a dumbo. Does he think this is as easy as buying the latest Lamborghini? It took almost two weeks to get everything ready for me to bear the Patterson's heir. And that was only because they could pay to speed things up. “Sir I really understand you want this done as soon as you can. However we need to contact our candidates and find a match for you.“ Just as he opens his mouth to continue showing off his arrogance and stupidity, the doctor speaks from behind him. “Mr Valesca, pleasure to have you here sir. May we speak in my office?“ Oh, now I see why he acted like he owned the place. The Valescas are the wealthiest family in Manhattan, if not the whole of new York. They've been for generations and I doubt that is going anywhere. I huff, casting a pitiful glance at the receptionist who's wiping away a few tears that have managed to escape from the encounter. As I'm about to get into my blue beat down Toyota Corolla, a voice whispers in my mind 'Liora, this is your chance. The billionaire needs a surrogate. Go now and get that money.' My hand freezes on the door handle. Yes. This could be my chance. He's desperate, I'm desperate. This would work out perfectly. 'Don't ever give into an arrogant man again. It only causes pain and suffering for you while the assholes asshole only gets bigger' aunt's words resurface in my mind. She's right. After what Ronan did to me, the last thing I'll do is go for the arrogant Valesca in there. As if the day wasn't already bad, my car breaks down on the drive home, about five blocks from my apartment. Instead of the seven minutes drive, I drag my feet for a whole 30 minutes to get back. It is always said, think of the devil and he appears before you. I notice Ronan's car first, parked at the entrance to my four story apartment. The rolls Royce sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the numerous old vehicles parked there. He walks out, a flower bouquet in his hand while heading straight for aunt's door. I reach him before he can knock. “Ronan.“ He smiles, extending the flowers to me. “Hey beautiful. Seems I came at the right time huh?“ “Yes Ronan, the right time for you to leave. Get away from here. Now.“ Faster than lightening, his smile drops. He runs a hand through his thick blonde locks and gives me an intense gaze with his bright green eyes. The same eyes my little girl has. “Liora you know why I'm here. For you and my daugh–” “You do not have a daughter here. I have told you to stay away from us Ronan. You had your chance and you ruined it. Leave.“ He sighs, “I know okay and I'm sorry. I should have accepted you when you got pregnant. I'm here now though. Amending my mistakes. You're lucky baby. Not all abandoned pregnant mothers get this chance.“ There it is. That arrogance seeping from his lips. I tighten my fists, resisting the urge to slam his face into the wall. That would be cool. A dream come true. Unfortunately I can't do that. Gritting my teeth, I growl “Ronan, what do you want.?“ “My daughter. I want to bond with her and get to know her” I chuckle. a humourless laugh I can't help. “Bond. Bond huh, with the same child you asked me to abort after getting me pregnant at 17? Consider her dead Ronan. Because my Selina is not yours.“ The words have hardly left my throat when his jaw tics, and before I can blink, I'm slammed against the wall, pain shooting up my back. Ronan wraps a hand around my neck, squeezing slowly. I grip his hand, trying to pull them off my neck where a bruise is sure to form. Ronan uses my weakness to his advantage, leaning down to whisper in my ears. “You don't tell me what I own or do not own. You are mine and so is Selina. If you refuse to be mine, I don't mind. But you see my daughter, you are not throwing me out of her life. I am her father.“ I scratch and kick to free myself. My breaths start coming in gasps and I notice dark spots dancing in my vision. But it's all in vain. He's a buff guy, towering over my 5'7 self with his 6'3 figure. He can snap my neck if he wants to. “Oh baby” he chuckles, scrutinizing me. “If only you would stop being so proud. We would be such a good couple. We will–” “Hey! Let her go you big baffoon.“ Ariana, my best friend screams, hitting Ronan's back with her heels like a mad woman. He lets go and I drop to the floor, clutching my neck while gulping in air. Ariana runs to me, cradling me as tears roll down my cheeks. Ronan walks away but stops by his car as his bodyguard opens the door. “Have it your way Liora. Since you don't want me in my daughter's life, I'm taking you to court. Let's see how you win. Especially if you don't have a job and a house.“ He gets in and as they drive off, I break down. That was a threat. I need to protect my princess. I don't know what will happen to me if he gets custody of her. No. I can't let it happen.2Liora's POV“Here you go. Make sure you serve those first before the desserts.““Yes Liora.“ The server responds as she walks away with her team, all balancing trays on their hands.I turn around towards the chefs, making sure no one is lagging behind. They're all working. Hard. Which is very important because my job and theirs is counting on how today turns out.“I'll go check if everything is fine inside.“ I say to no one in particular, then speedwalk from the kitchen down the hallways and into the large glittering hall where the party is going on.This is a ball to celebrate the merger of two very powerful companies, the Valescas and the Romero's. And I have been tasked with catering the event. It is big money, which came at the right time especially with all that has been going on.I am the manager of Marina catering services. It's my aunt's company, but due to her state of health, she entrusted it to me. we've catered so many big events, but nothing of this sort. More reason I
3Evren's POVI'm sitting in my office, tapping my pen on the desk. It's been 15 hours, yet my mind refuses to rest. Thoughts keep filling my brain, and it's giving me a damned headache.I had only wanted to ask why there was a holdup in serving some of my most important guests, even after I'd personally assigned some servers to do so. The men were hard to please, so any delay was going to cost my company a shitload of money. The plan was to go into the kitchen, scold the waiters and chefs, ask about their manager, and tell him or her never to handle anything related to my family. But getting grabbed by a random woman, kissed so hard, and then scolded... scolded and ordered back to work was unimaginable. I give orders—I don't take them.“Levi!“ I scream, the sound echoing off the walls of my office on the 43rd floor of the building. He comes running in, panting hard as if he'd run a marathon. “I have it, sir. Finally, I can rest. Phew.” He smiles, but it drops as soon as he notices my
4Liora's POV"Mommy, there's a man at the door looking for you," Selina says as she runs into the room where I'm packing up clothes for laundry.Placing my hands on my waist, I narrow my eyes at her. "Selina Wilder. Did you, by any chance, go to the door again? I've told you to stop that. A bad man could take you away."Her giggles stop, her face falling. "I'm sorry, Mommy. It's just that you were busy. I wanted to help you."It's just so hard to stay angry at her. But her safety is still my priority, especially with her crazy father out there. At the door, I meet a man in a suit, his eyes shielded by dark sunglasses. Behind him are three black SUVs, men dressed in similar attire patrolling the area.My heart thumps. Could they be Ronan's men? He always used two cars."Miss Liora Wilder?"I gulp, then nod. "Yes. That's me.""I'm Levi Santiago, executive assistant of Mr. Evren Valesca. May I come in?"Oh, not this again. I specifically told my doctor I wouldn’t be a surrogate for that
5Liora's POVThe CEO in front of me is either crazy or insane. Same thing? Yes, but he's double. I've never associated with any rich people, aside from Ronan, in all my 25 years of life. Then how is he expecting me to respond to his very ridiculous question? This has to be a prank.“Mr. Valesca. I don't know who you think you are and why you think you can make me leave home and come here to entertain this silliness. But I'd have you know it's not funny.”“....”I huff when the man remains silent. Instead of acknowledging me, he picks up his pen and starts signing some documents. Hell no. I'm not staying here and letting him insult me like this.Turning on my heels, I start walking toward the door when someone finally speaks. I whirl around fast, noticing it's not him but a male reporter on the TV.He places the remote on his desk, leans back in his seat, and pulls off his tie.“We are at the house of Nicholas Romero, where the 65-year-old CEO of Romero Corporation is undergoing treat
6 Liora's POV “That’s not how blackmail works, Miss Wilder. One person needs to have the upper hand. In this case, and always, that’ll be me.” Evren smirks, leaning back in his seat and observing me. I click my tongue, biting back the sharp retort that threatens to come forth. Upper hand? Hell to the no. There’s no way a man will ever have an upper hand over my life again. Not while I’m still Liora Wilder. Still, I’ll let him think he has leverage over me. But I’m ready to sleep with one eye open from now on. “Okay, Mr. Valesca. Can I read through this?” Another lesson I learned after getting pregnant for Ronan: Don’t take things from strangers or gorgeous men. It’ll never end well. “Please do. Although I doubt you’ll have anything to say about what’s in there. We both will benefit from these arrangements.” I scoff, moving toward the small seating area in his office. Once there, I open the already prepared document, wondering just how he was able to get one so fast. Rich people
Chapter 7Evren's POV“How dare she?”“How dare she what?” Marek asks nonchalantly, watching the football game on the TV.His question makes me pause, my mind buzzing. He is right... How dare she what? I don't know what's irritating me more—the fact that she thinks she can tell me what to do or her telling me not to touch her.Really, how dare she? Even in jeans, her curvy body called out to me the entire time she stood in my office. I wanted to hold her hair and tilt her head back as my lips made contact with her soft skin. Now she's telling me not to touch her. Like hell, I won’t.I feel Marek's gaze on my pacing figure before he lets out a sigh. “Ren, listen to me... I don't see what is bugging you so much, brother. Her conditions aren't tough at all. I think you'd have a lot of ease going through with them.”He's lucky there's nothing around me to stab him with. What the hell does he mean by easy? “Don't talk about things you don't understand, Marek.”He scoffs, shaking his head.
Chapter 8Liora’s POV“Um, what are you doing?” Arianna asks as I shove one of my favorite skirts into my box.“I am eating pineapples… oh so yummy… what the hell does it look like I’m doing?” I grunt, passing her a glare. She rolls her eyes and walks further into the room from where she stood by the door. “Calm down, will you? What the hell crawled up your ass? A certain billionaire who wants to control you, huh?”I roll my eyes and decide to ignore her. But she doesn’t seem to get the hint because, barely five seconds later, she speaks again.“But why are you packing? I thought you said he was going to buy you clothes.”“......”“Girl, you signed a contract. Don’t tell me you plan on not following it?”Obviously. She thought I was going to tie myself down with a stupid contract? No way in hell.Arianna flails her arms. “How do they say I’m the stubborn one between us?”“That’s because you are the stubborn one. And by the way, shouldn’t you be at work? I thought you got the job.”It’
Chapter 9 Liora's POV All my greatest fears are coming to pass at once. Ronan appearing not only in front of Selina and Aunt but before Evren? Yeah, kill me now! Arianna's wide-opened eyes meet mine as I step out of the vehicle, reflecting the same level of fear and anxiety I'm feeling. Shit. We are doomed. I gulp, feeling rage and tears sting at my chest and eyes, respectively. Selina is not supposed to witness this. She is not supposed to know about Ronan. I've kept it a secret for such a long time—call me wicked, but I wasn’t and will never let my daughter into the life of such a despicable man. “Ronan, what are you doing here?“ I manage to ask, hoping he'd somehow take the hint and leave. “You have some nerve, huh? You think I wasn’t going to find out that you plan on taking my daughter away from me?“ The car door opens and closes behind me. Two distinct footsteps meet my ears. The softer ones have me clenching my eyes shut, hoping this moment will just evaporate and be for
Chapter 15Evren's POVDamn. I've kissed just one girl in my entire life. Maybe it makes my comparison unfair because I don't have much experience in that field, but Liora Wilder's lips are the sweetest, softest, and tastiest thing I've ever had in my life. She tastes like strawberries. Now I know what I'll be doing every morning, afternoon, and even—Thank God for my fast reflexes. I catch her knee in time. My shocked eyes bore into her glaring ones.I can't believe this hellcat almost kneed me in the balls. My precious jewels. Not like they matter much. She's already pregnant with my one and only kid.“Hellcat, seriously?“ I groan, still holding her leg. “You don't wanna do that. My family won't appreciate you hurting me like this.“As expected, she scoffs and pushes me away. “Why? Because you're a big baby? Okay. Remind me to aim for the face next time. And what part of ‘do not touch me’ is so hard to understand?“Like hell. Her stupid rule will never matter to me. I'm Evren Valesc
Chapter 14Liora's POVFunny how just a few weeks ago, I never would have imagined myself wearing a 24-carat pink diamond ring, which costs enough to feed generations. And yet, here I am, being threatened into wearing one.“Oh my heaven!“ Arianna squeals. “Girl, that's like the best thing ever. So gorgeous. You're lucky, and I'm jealous. Still happy for you, though.”I roll my eyes. “There's nothing to be jealous about. I'm only wearing this to show his family I'm his bride.”Arianna narrows her eyes, watching me intently. “You don't sound happy about that. Do you perhaps want it to be real, huh?”While she wiggles her brows, I facepalm. Real? With such an arrogant jerk? Nope. I'll pass.“I'm more anxious about meeting his family, girl. You've watched the news before. They're not to be messed with.”Passing me a faint smile, Arianna says, “Girl, I don't think Evren would have invited you to go with him if he wasn't sure you'd handle it. He will be by your side, so you have nothing to
Chapter 13Liora's POVMy eyes flutter open, a small smile stretching across my face. For some reason, last night was the best night of my life in a long while. No nightmares, no fear of the dark, plus I didn't wake up even once. I slept like a baby."Such a bright, beautiful morning," I smile, opening my hands to bask in the early morning sunlight filtering through the windows."Hey, baby. Wake up, sleepyhead. It's time to–ahhhhh!!" I scream, almost falling off the bed if not for Evren's hand catching me by my waist. Turning around with wide eyes, I notice his face is extremely close to mine–so close that I feel the warmth of his breath against my skin. The events of last night rush to my brain like a flash flood, making me scramble to get out of his grip. I thought I slept with Selina.Damn it. I called him baby."Let go of me," I groan, trying to free myself from his grasp. Instead of following instructions, he wraps both arms around me, pulling me onto his lap. I try to wriggle, b
12Liora's POV“You can open the rest of the buttons if you want. Oh heavens. Who does he even think he is? He's not the least bit attractive. He's just... umm... argghh!” I groan, dumping my book away.It falls to the ground with a thud, and I run to pick it up, making sure I didn't tear my favorite storybook because of Evren. When I see no issue with it, a sigh of relief escapes my lips. “Oh, my baby. I'm glad you're okay.”“I didn't know you talk alone. I'll need to Google to make sure it isn't hereditary. Plus, don't tell me I'll have to compete with a book.”I whirl around fast, and oh shit! Did I say he wasn't attractive? I must have been under the influence then because, wow, this guy is all definitions of sexy.Freshly showered, curls messy, and his silver-grey eyes boring into my soul, I have to admit. I might just accept one clause in the contract. Just one.But then, nothing good lasts forever, right? Because while I'm ogling the hottie in front of me, his arrogant, deep, g
Chapter 11Evren's POVSomehow, seeing Liora flustered makes me happy. Now, imagine my joy at seeing her face turn bright red with embarrassment when her daughter asks if I'm going to be her daddy.Liora and I haven't spoken about this yet, although she doesn't know I plan to take her child as my own. Having a little fun won't hurt, would it?“Little flower, you can ask Mommy that, okay? She'll tell you if I'm going to be your daddy.”Marek rolls his eyes at me. He knows exactly what I'm doing—putting her in a tight spot for my own entertainment. Hell yeah.I feel daggers glaring into my skin from where Liora stands. Selina is fast, running toward her mother to ask if I'm going to be her daddy. Unfortunately for me, Liora seems to have caught on to my plan because she just pleads for one of the maids to help her daughter to their room.Oops. That's another thing that'll get my little kiss thief hate me. Now, I can't wait for her reaction.Once Selina is gone, her smile drops, and the
Chapter 10Liora's POVWith one last smirk thrown my way, Ronan gets into his car and drives off. Without another word. Because he knows. He knows he will win.My legs buckle, tears welling up in my eyes. A hand steadies me before I can reach the ground, the heat from his body engulfing me. I know it's Evren before I even see him. Just a few weeks after knowing him, and his cologne is already imprinted in my brain. He doesn't say a word, to which I'm grateful, not being in the mood to talk.“Mommy!“ My angel's sharp voice greets my ears as she runs out towards me, Arianna hot on her tail.“Selina, will you stop running? You could get hurt!“ She pants, making me roll my eyes. It's no secret that Arianna is lazy. She always has an excuse to give when I tell her it's time for the morning run or evening walk.Selina's hands wrap around my legs, her little giggles bringing a certain warmth and light to my chest, almost making me forget Ronan. But I can't. Not when his carbon copy is right
