Antonio

I have been living at Lux hotel for more than a week now, I have extended my stay when the Russian’s people did not show to collect the money or kill me and I have been living my best life. Getting this money has forwarded me the opportunity to live my dream even if it is only for a short while but it is worth it. I am not proud of stealing this money but anyone who has was homeless will tell you that it is a jungle out there.

The survival of the fittest and is not for the weak. The people I met when the streets first became my home lost the race and died for one reason or another. Even the man that treated me like a son when the man who made me did not even know if am alive of dead also died a few years back. I do not know what happened to him, but I know that he was sick, on the day he died though he was fine, he woke up early like he usually did when he was okay and went looking for food for us.

He came back with a lot of food and we ate together. He said to me ‘You know, this meal is what I have always wanted to taste for a long time now, but I never had money to buy it, but I saved and managed to make 40$ to get this meal for the both of us. It is my last meal and now I can die a happy man.’ I kept nodding as I sat by his side eating the food, to be honest I was nothing paying attention to what he was saying, my only focus was on the food I was eating, it was not from a dumpster, so it tasted even better.

I did not know that he was going to die, had I known I would have stayed by his side and made sure that he does not die alone. The man took care of me when I first got to the streets and showed me how to survive out there. He was the closest thing I had to a father. After eating he told me to go about my day hustling for something to eat in the evening, that is the life out there, we do not worry about anything else, just where our next meal will come from and life was simple.

I have done a lot with the money; I went on a boat that took me to the middle of the ocean and I got to see dolphins. They were moving around the boat doing whatever dolphins do but what matters it that it was a beautiful sight to see, one that I never thought I would ever get to see and at that moment I realized that indeed, the best things in life are free.

I also went to the zoo for the first time, as silly as that may sound, I never got to go to the zoo when I was a kid and the downside of it all was that I loved animals. I always felt like their lives were much simpler than ours were, they always fascinated me, and I thought that when I go to college, I will study and be a zoologist. But I was an orphan, one of the unlucky ones, the ones that never got picked by adoptive parents.

I only went as far as middle school and that was as much schooling someone like me could ever get. I don’t have an education, but I have been told that I am smart but to me it comes naturally, I never wanted to look stupid in front of people, so I made sure to ask question about everything I needed to know, and I never forget. If a saw something, best believe that I will never forget it even the smallest details of it.

I remember whenever families would come to the orphanage, we would be so excited thinking that this time it might be us, we would wake up early and bath then dress nice with either one of the two pieces of clothing that was kept for such occasions. They would come and look at us as we stood there anxious with nervous smiles on our faces. They would look at us like they were trying to make a choice on which piece of clothing to buy, but we were human.

I never knew how degrading what they did was until now, see when you desperate for something, you do not even see the bullshit that comes with it, we did not see it either and we were kids, we knew no better and all we wanted was a home, a family, love, and most of all regular meals as they were not so regular at the orphanage. It was crowded and the food was never enough.

I walked out of Lux and into the night. My driver was waiting patiently for me, the night was peaceful as it has been for the past week and a half. Now this is not a normal night for J City, this city is always busy, there is traffic all the time on the road, I have seen it and I know that this past week has not been normal. Something is wrong and I have an idea what.

In this city the people have learnt to notice the changes, when everything is okay you will see every car on the road and people walking on the street. But when things go south people hide behind their high walls until the storm blows over. I do not get how this storm is still brewing though because I thought by now, I would have been caught and probably dead.

I sniffed the air one more time before taking long strides to the car and slide in through the open door my driver held for me. “Where to sir?” he asked and whenever he called me sir my heart would swell with happiness. It silly I know but I never thought anyone would ever call me sir, my life was pretty much dull, and I was supposed to live like a stray dog on the streets until I die for whatever reason and then be buried like a dog as well that no one would remember.

But here am I being called sir because of stolen mafia money and I feel good about it. “Today I just want to take a drive downtown, to check on things.” I told him, I think it is time I went back and blessed the guys that had my back on the streets but am mostly going for one man, they call him DJ, the man is very educated you hear from the way he speaks and how he words each sentence that it comes from a scholar.

The man used to be called a Childe, in his hometown way before he lost everything because of a woman, typical of rich men, always falling because of women. Right now, I need his advice in case I am never discovered, I need to put this money to good use and for it to benefit me for the longest of time if all goes well. For me to be able to achieve that goal I need DJ by my side, I trust that man with my life.

The same life of mine he saved once, I almost died a few years back with pneumonia, I do not know what DJ did or how he managed to get me into a private hospital with all expenses paid but he did it and never told me how. That is the kind of man I need by my side and I am going to take him with me. We drove downtown and I saw DJ pushing his trolley by the side of the road.

“Stop right here.” I told my drive already a smile playing on my lips, DJ is the one person that managed to bring back a smile on my face after Luke died. I rolled down the window and called out to him. “DJ!” He ignores me and continues to walk. I chuckled thinking about how he used to say, never pay any mind to rich people when they hoot at you, its not worth it because they only want to make themselves feel better by giving you a few cents then the next time expect you to cover a murder for them.

Some of the things he used to say I think they happened in his past, but he never talks about it. “DJ, its Tony.” He stops then turn slowly to look at me with my head pocking out of the car, he comes close and looks at the car for a while then back at me. “The streets have ears and eyes. Even the wind can hear these days, it would be much better to go underground like rat to avoid the noise.” I knew instantly what he means as I gave him subtle nod.

“Well, I came for you, we need to discuss about the conditions under which you live in on these streets and if I get everything I need I might even sponsor a homeless shelter around here.” I have no choice but to speak in code, a language only he and I understood. Because I do not know my driver that well and I do not trust him enough with my life when DJ says the streets are talking.

I knew they were judging by how quiet they have been, and I know that DJ has already put two and two together when he saw me in this car. He comes in the back with me then sighs and put his head on his hands. I know that he is frustrated when he does this, but I will explain everything to him soon.

Antonio I see the look of envy in the people’s eyes whenever I pass, the way they look at the clothes I am wearing, and the car I ride in. The envy in their eyes I know all too well, I used to be like them and wished I was like those people who had everything in life, those who dressed well, rode in luxury cars, ate nice food every day. At least the way I saw them back then they looked like they had everything in life but I couldn’t be more wrong. These people had their own demons that they deal with every day and then put on a mask for the world outside when they go out. Same with me, they envy me thinking that I have it all figured out but they couldn’t be more wrong. The clothes I am wearing are my mask that is covering the years of dirt accumulated from the street. The suits, the car, and even the money they wished they had are not mine. I didn’t work hard for it as they do theirs; I stole it and if they knew how my life is, they would re

Antonio DJ and I worked till the early hours of the morning. The more he explained about the investments he was making with the money the more I understood, his banker came around three in the morning and took the money then gave us both black cards. With some of the money, we bought an accounting firm that was going bankrupt, and we invested the other in different companies. The banker left at around five in the morning; he was happy to be working with DJ again and told him a lot about how his wife spent all the money over the years. He told him she was selling the company now since she could no longer maintain it, I could see that DJ wanted it back, so I spoke to the banker aside and told him to buy the company when its value is low enough. I asked him not to tell DJ until everything was done, and the company is under his name again. We went to bed after that, and I was exhausted. A loud sound that shook the building woke us up, I jump out

Yuri I adjusted my tie when we got to the car; I have asked one of my men to run a check on those guys at the hotel. No one stays under my roof without me knowing who they are and the person who let them stay still needs to answer for that. I could have been killed because of their stupidity and I can’t have that from the people that work for me. Now my brothers have arrived, and it’s time I get my hand dirty and find this case myself. I am also admiring the person who stole it; I mean one, no one steals from me and he did that. Two no one ever hides from me for this long so that means he is crafty; three no one had ever made me feel the need to bring my Russian brothers here, but he did. Therefore, I feel like this person is more than what meets the eye, right now we are going back to basics, tracing my men’s steps from that night to see if we missed anything. As much as I want to kill him for what he did, I want to meet him more and get to

Yuri The drive back to the hotel is silent, I can see Boris keep stealing glances at me through the rearview mirror. He has questions I can see but I will say nothing until he does; they frustrate me sometimes. They don’t have the balls to stand up to me or even ask questions. I get I am not an approachable man but I have killed no one for asking questions. Well, except those I don’t like. “Boss,” he calls out and I look at him. His grip on the steering wheel tightens, how ridiculous! “I just want to know if we are giving up on finding the case.” I would like to believe that my people know me better than that, especially Boris who has been working for me for years now. And yet, he still asks the most stupid questions ever! The kid must do better than this. I don’t answer Boris because that shit he asked doesn’t deserve an answer; we drive past downtown and I see the beautiful hole Michail put in the middle of downtown J City. I smirked lookin

Antonio My shoulder hurts like a bitch, that damn Russian! But fuck am alive. I am still alive and he wants me to work for him. I don’t know why and I don’t think I want to ask. Or he might just be another bullet in me. DJ helps me clean my wound, he is quiet as he busied himself with the task at hand. “Say something.” His silence is bothering me now, DJ is never this quiet. “I am just trying to process the fact that we are still alive and now working for the Mafia.” He tells me and I am baffled. I think his logic is screwed. “How are you not happy that we are still alive? Or did you prefer us dead?” I asked not able to grasp the logic behind what he said. “No, but we are now targeting only he knows the man seems to like you. I saw the way he was looking at you like it fascinated him.” He tells me but I disagree. There is no way the guy who just put a hole in my shoulder with a bullet likes me. “Well, if he likes me as you say which I disagre

Antonio On the drive back the girl was shaking like a leaf and I just stared out the window watching the buildings go by. One day she will understand that I had no choice, that this life does not differ from the jungle, and that, humans will always choose themselves over anything else. “You killed him.” She says with a shaky voice and I glanced at her. “So?” I asked then looked back at the window. “You killed my father!” she said this time louder, but I did not look at her, I did not need to see the state she was in to understand how she was feeling or what I did. I know, I lost my soul in the process too. “Again, I ask, so?” I asked her, I know she does not have an answer to that and I was not expecting one. I just need her to shut the hell up! “I told you I…” I cut her shot before she says something stupid that will force me to kill her too. “Shut the fuck up! Annoying bitch, what makes you think I care about your father or you?” I know tho

Antonio “DJ, you know what to do while I am gone, if she leaves then her death will not be on our hands.” I looked at her then walked out following Boris who was waiting for me outside the door. “The boss is waiting in the basement,” he tells me but I don’t answer. He turns his head slightly to look at me then shook his head, I really don’t care about this one, my biggest problem now is this meeting. When we get to the basement, the car was already waiting with the back door open and the sea of guards standing next to it. “You here, well, get in we have to talk.” I hummed my response then got in next to him and Boris took the driver’s seat. “After this meeting, we have some things to talk about but in this meeting, I want you to prove yourself once again.” My stomach turned when he said that. This doesn’t sound good at all, I might have to kill someone else but then again, it’s either them or me and right now self-preservation is more importa

I do not even know what the Russians did with his body. ‘Oh, Lord what have I done?’ I just wanted to help him out when we were struggling, I did not know that it will end like this. Now, now I am this man’s prisoner, and I must work for him. Now I have no life and if I want to live. Even Karan whom they came to rescue here did not come after that day and Letta resented him more.Tony almost died here, and he was here to save him. Yet, when everything was all right with him, he left and did not even check to see if he lived or died. Letta swore that she would kill him if she ever got a chance to. But Tony was only angry that Krystal did not come to see him the whole time he was in the hospital. He knows what he said to her, but he still thought that she cared and that she would come and visit him. But when she did not, he concluded that she wanted nothing to do with him. He never told anyone this and no one told him that Krystal did indeed, come to the hospital. What good would it have done had they told him? She w

“You should have let me kill her!” said Karan angrily as they walked towards the elevator. He could see how hurt Krystal was by what Letta said, and he did not like that one bit. “What good would that have done? She was telling the truth back there. I chose you and I have no right to interfere in Tony’s life.” She said getting angry herself. She did not know if she was angry at Letta for calling her out or that she did not get to hear how Tony is doing.“You were not interfering you just wanted to know how he is doing; he is your friend after all.” Krystal chuckled. She knew that she was nothing to Tony, after their talk the other day, she knew she was not in a position to even call him a friend. She had no place in his life. “Let it be, can we please go home? I have had enough of this country.” Karan could understand how she was feeling. This was supposed to be some vacation for her, a time for her to unwind before the baby arrives. But it turned out to be something completely differ

The one who went to ask for the room number ended up opening the door, the room was quiet, and Karan was sleeping on the bed with Krystal in his arms. The men smirked; this was good, exceptionally good. Karan was a light sleeper, and he was awake the moment they opened the door. He knew Lyle would never come into the room, he would stand outside and knock. He slowly reached for his gun under the pillow.Once he got hold of it, he was fast in acting; he woke up and fired at the men. He got one right between his eyes, the other on the heart, and the other in the middle of the chest. Krystal woke up with a scream frightened by the gunshots. Karan went to check on the men finishing them off as he did so making sure they were dead before rushing to Krystal. He took her to the bathroom and placed her in the bathtub. “Sweetheart, I need you to be quiet now and I will be right back.” Krystal nodded while tears flowed down her cheeks. Tony went up to the room with the girl, he wanted to get wasted and have a good time tonight. He felt it was time to forget about Krystal and start living his life. This girl was going to be the start of him moving forward and living life for him and no one else. Since he got that bag of money over a year ago. It has been one challenge after another, and he was tired and needed time to breathe. When they got to the room Tony went to the mini fridge and took out all the alcohol inside then started drinking. “Don’t drink too much baby, we still have to play.” She said seductively but Tony paid her no mind and continued to down one drink after another. “How about you go and shower while I order room service. The night is still young, and you do not want to get waisted too quickly.” Tony still said nothing but did as she suggested. As soon as he disappeared into the bathroom, the young woman waited until she heard the water running. Karan glared at him. ‘How dare he stop him, maybe he had a death wish?’ Lyle could see how unhappy his boss was and cleared his throat. “Boss, let them talk, they have not seen each other since… you know what happened. They need to close that chapter of their lives and move on.” What Lyle said made sense, but Karan was not sure what was going to happen between Krystal and Tony once they talk.He took her from him, and it was not her choice to stay with him in the beginning, but he thought she had grown to love him over the past months. Could he have misread her? He wondered. He loved Krystal, and he did not know what he would do if he lost her. He was already picturing them together with their baby and he could not lose that. He did not mind going through the tunnels as he grew up in the tunnel of Russia anyway, but Krystal was not used to that. Now he who vowed to protect her was the one who was going to ask her to do something like this. That thought alone made him swear to kill each member of the mafia. While he was thinking of how to tell Krystal the news, a call came through. He did not know the number, but answered anyway. “Yes?” the other party did not speak immediately, and that made Karan sit straight on his chair.“The boss asked me to tell you to find a place to hide. We will be there in the next couple of hours.” The latter finally spoke.
