Righ’s POV

Righ was waiting impatiently to hear any news about the relic's location. The giant throne room was located at the center of his loathsome, gloomy castle, which held none of the glory of his past accomplishments. The few servants scuttling around were mere shadows of the throngs that had once followed him.

The iron castle, built into the side of a volcano, was a shell of a monument from a time before the great wars. After which, he was banished to the abandoned areas of the world that grew untamed with monsters and flourishing wildlife.

There were constant thunderstorms. Red dirt kicked up in the wind and swirled around the castle in thick clouds, making it impossible to see at times.

Sunlight reflected off the dirt and gave an u

Clarissa Blake was the first to step away from the tender moment they shared. Clarissa giggled as he held a set of plain wooden doors open for her. Blinding sunlight filled the corridor. She stepped through into a small private garden. The flowers were brightly colored and beautiful. Their aroma permeated the air heavily. It felt like a slice of heaven. A quick glance revealed they were alone. Her heartbeat swiftly in the cage of her ribs. She already shared an intimate connection with her tall, dark friend. He led her to a nearby bench and took her hands as they sat down. Once again, his entire focus was on her. She fought the urge to squirm under his scrutiny.

  • The Stolen Relic   Chapter 32

Clarissa’s POV Clarissa followed Blake quietly to her room. She was disappointed he was leaving her. But a part of her was relieved. It was a whirlwind of a day, and she needed to process everything. Maybe she could make sense of her emotions. Possibly, a nap would make her feel better. Her mind returned to the bed, filling up most of the room the monks provided for her stay. She had never felt such luxury and wanted to use it while she could. “But I will see you at dinner?” She asked. Clarissa wanted to spend more time with him before continuing her journey to Bright Moon. But she was afraid of the consequences should she ask. He nodded, holding h

  • The Stolen Relic   Chapter 33

Blake’s POV After leaving Clarissa in her room, Blake went to his own. He paced back and forth. His emotions were a mess. She was such an enchantress! Memories of them playing and sneaking off into the forest assaulted him. He worked so hard to push them back for so long, until the day he told Blake to capture her and bring her to his people. He sighed and plopped down on his bed. What was he going to do? What would he do with her if he allowed his benefactor to keep Clarissa? What did he want with her? After everything that Blake had been through, he asked himself why he still cared. The sight of her sitting in the garden swam before him, and he groaned. She was so beautiful

  • The Stolen Relic   Chapter 34

Clarissa Once in the solitude of her room, Clarissa slammed her bedroom door. Her father's death and the purple sage came back to her with a vengeance. She fell on her bed, sobbing with an unbearably aching heart. Where was Stefan when she needed him? How was she supposed to save her mother without him? She couldn’t stay with Blake, and she couldn’t stay here! Mimi soothed her in her mind before speaking, “you can stay the night and rest. Attend dinner. It would be rude not to attend after all they have done for you. Tomorrow, Blake said you could be on your way. He could summon Stefan with what is in your bags because Stefan gave them to you. It will provide enough connection to him.”

  • The Stolen Relic   Chapter 35

Stefan’s POV After discovering where the stranger took Clarissa, Stefan forced his horse into a full-speed gallop the entire way and made it to the Olc monastery outskirts before the sun went down that day. As he entered town, the sun was setting. He slid adeptly from his horse in the center of the crowded huts outside the gates. If there were that many people living outside the walls, he could imagine how populated it was inside the gates. How long would it take to find Clarissa? He had to decide where to start looking for her. If she was still here, she could be outside the gates. Looking around, he quickly determined how unlikely that was. Outside, all the buildings were domestic mud huts. Not likely to house an adventurer

Clarissa Clarissa and Blake entered the dining room through gigantic oak doors as Blake explained the Old King’s side of the great war. There were always two sides to a story, and the losing side was rarely shared. The dining room was a large ballroom half-filled with mahogany chairs and tables, while the other half was open floor space. Black table covers were set with red plates and silverware. Red wine filled crystal glasses. The walls were bare except for white candles on little golden plates extending from the wall. Except, one wall had a large exceptionally-made curtain of what looked like satin hung over it. She wondered what it was hiding. A band of musicians played

  • The Stolen Relic   Chapter 37

Blake At first, Blake was surprised how open Righ was with him because Blake had not sworn an oath of fealty. But the king was living in exile, which meant that his conversation partners were limited. If Blake were in Righ’s shoes, he would be grateful to have someone to talk to who wasn’t magically bound to him. It was most likely why Righ did not force him into an oath in the first place. What would Blake do about any of the information Righ shared anyway? He was a neutral party. He served the king as long as it served him. Yet Blake did not want to be an enemy of the king. He had no doubt the Olc Order would clear him of the celestial curse and soon. A freed King Righ would be a nightmare of an enemy. But he already proved

  • The Stolen Relic   Chapter 38

Clarissa Clarissa stared in shock at the giant mirror. The visage before her was like nothing she had ever seen before. His skin was bright red with black spots. Horns spiraled up from his forehead. Sharp canines poked out from below his top lip as he smiled at them. His spotted brown hair was wild and unkempt. It reminded her of a mane. He looked powerful and giant as he hovered over them. If Blake had not been there, she would have screamed. But when she looked into Righ’s eyes, what she found there comforted her. He was capable of love, for she saw its loss within. The terror of haunting nightmares and the horror he overcame resonated through them. Despite all of that, there was hope in the darkness and an undeniable slive

The bond with Stefan and Blake thrummed with concern, but she was already being pulled away. She stood alone in a broken landscape. The sky was a mass of swirling black clouds, blotting out any light. BlakeBlake was eager for the ceremony, having studied its technical aspects all week. Yet nothing had prepared him for the overwhelming magnificence of the experience. The ceremony had not been performed for hundreds of years, as the werecat village patiently awaited the hatching of the sacred eggs. Each generation practiced the ritual in reverence, their chants echoing through the ages in hopes that an Onyx Sage would soon emerge. Now, with the arrival of not one, but three Onyx Sages, the village buzzed with unprecedented excitement. The rhythmic chanting of the villagers infused the air with potent magic, each syllable amplifying the mystical energy that surrounded them. This ancient ceremony was designed to cement the bond between the familiar and the sage, intertwining their souls and enhancing their powers but the effect of multiple Onyx Sages in the same ceremony was uncertain. As the chants grew louder, the magic intensified, weaving an unbreakable connection that would ens

ClarissaBefore the door creaked open, the raucous roar of the massive crowd echoed through the stone hallway, a low, thunderous vibration that pulsed in time with Clarissa’s heart. Each footstep amplified the charged energy in the air. As they stepped out onto the stage where they would bind to their familiars, the blinding sunlight turned the bustling world into a bright blur.As her eyes adjusted, a sea of faces stretching as far as the eye could see came into sharp focus. Hundreds of onlookers packed the grand courtyard, their collective breath held in anticipation. The transition from the thunderous noise inside to the outside’s deafening silence was startling. Heads turned in unison, eyes wide with reverence and curiosity.Stefan subtly shifted his stance, placing himself slightly in front of Clarissa, as if shielding her from unseen dangers the crowd represented. Chief Yungerr stepped forward to address the crowd.“After ages of darkness, the Onyx Sages have been reborn with th

Clarissa Glowing purple flora illuminated the bath cavern, casting a soft light over the shimmering pool of teal-lit water, as Clarissa scrambled out of the tub and grabbed the robe hanging just inside the door of the bath chamber. Mimi followed her. But she didn’t see the mysterious elf anywhere.Where had she gone? Clarissa bolted down the hall, checking down every corridor she passed. But they were as empty as her understanding of the elf’s words. Who was going to ask her to go somewhere? Where? And even more confounding, what truth would be revealed there? The cave’s corridor pulsed with flickering light, ancient runes burning like warning embers. Shadows twisted violently as Clarissa sprinted after the mysterious woman, her breath sharp, the air electric with impending doom. Each step echoed louder, pushing her forward through the narrowing path.At the last corridor, Clarissa gasped and her eyes widened. An old woman in a lavender robe huddled in the corner. • The Stolen Relic   Chapter 106

Clarissa Clarissa lifted her sleepy head from the table, her thoughts spinning sluggishly. The knock that woke her sounded again. Jumping up, she ran to let Stefan in. She fell asleep waiting for him. Disappointment gripped her when she saw the werecat ready to show them to their lessons again. She rubbed her eyes and stared at her confusedly. There was no way it was time already. She hadn’t even been to bed yet. Blake came out of his room looking refreshed and rested. Clarissa felt the dry spit on her face and knew that her hair was a mess. She couldn’t sit in front of everyone all day like this. “Good morning.” Blake greeted them, smiling warmly. Clarissa tried not to let his chipper attitude bother her. But she was exhausted and frustrated. Ignoring his cheer would be challenging; however, it was not his fault that she had not slept. “Just give me a minute to get ready.” She asked, realizing that they had not brought breakfast this morning. She went into her room to cl

Stefan Clarissa kept making strange faces at him throughout dinner. He didn’t appreciate being stared at while he was eating. The chipper conversation rubbed him raw until he could no longer sit still. But once he had Arcadia and Evander in his room, the pressure started to lessen. He had to focus on what was going on back home. Those affairs required his attention now. But his mind forced itself back to the fact that Clarissa had chosen to sit next to Blake during dinner. She hadn’t even sat across from Stefan. A wicked voice in his head questioned what they were doing under the table. The question made no sense. Clarissa kept her hands visible the entire meal. But did Blake? Stefan couldn’t remember, but he did remember the pink flush of her cheeks as she ate. “What do you wish to discuss?” Arcadia asked, sounding like a soldier reporting for duty. She and Evander stood near the closed door at parade rest. Stefan rumbled low in his throat, uncomfortable with their carefu

Clarissa As Chief Yungerr attended to his people without breaks, the day swiftly disappeared. Every time someone left the room, another person entered. The sun was casting long shadows throughout the room when people stopped coming in. Mimi observed everything from the corner of the room. Everyone seemed surprised to see him. He unnerved and distracted them momentarily. But Mimi remained quiet and motionless throughout the day. Clarissa sighed, and Chief Yungerr looked over at her. She stretched her back, realizing now how stiff she had gotten. Chief Yungerr’s chair cushions were essential, and she wished her seat was more comfortable. “So, what have you learned?” He asked, interested. “We saw many people today, and they each asked for something different. But every request seemed to have the same core desires. I counted six of them.” Clarissa said, checking her notes. Chief Yungerr listened attentively. His ears twitched. Smiling, he motioned for her to continue. “More p
