Clarissa

Somehow, Clarissa could move towards the rustling leaves without a sound. Suddenly, she was grateful that she was still in the leather armor and not her dress. It did not matter at this moment that it was unseemly for a lady to dress in pants.

Mimi riled up in her head. “If that is someone else trying to hurt you, I will crush them!” He threatened violently.

Clarissa just lifted a finger towards her lips. Mimi may not be able to see her move, but he understood her intent. He lay silent in her mind, and she could sense his readiness to attack whatever threatened her. It was odd that it made her feel safe.

She stepped into the forest lithely. She was not sure who or what was lurking. Nor did she know what she would do if it were someone wh

Clarissa “I am glad that you came to see me before you left, my child. I can help equip you for your future journeys. You would not have had the chance had you chosen to wait to see me.” The purple sage spoke slowly. “Yes, ma’am,” Clarissa said, fighting the urge to get up from her seat and sit at the old lady’s feet. She remembered doing so as a child during the festivals when it was storytime. “But didn’t you know I was going to come tonight?” “Do you remember when the village went through that drought? I had already gathered the necessary supplies to overcome the storm. I had seen the drought bring fires and lost crops in my dreams. I saw our village destroyed and our clan struggling in the wilderness for food. Instead, we were ready.”

Stefan As soon as Stefan stepped into the night, the hut door slammed itself shut behind him. He stopped and glanced over his shoulder. “No worries, Violet will take good care of your little pet.” A silky voice echoed through his head. He put his hands on his ears but it did nothing to quiet the voice. He felt something pressing up against the side of his leg. “She is a very strong one.” The voice cooed. He looked down to see the foxen rubbing against him like a kitten. “I know the witch is powerful.” He retorted as he stared down at Chrome. Now the foxen was talking to him. Great! He

Clarissa Clarissa shuddered and was suddenly grateful they planned on leaving as soon as possible. “But I cannot leave you to fight…” She began to object. The purple sage grabbed her by the face and looked directly into her eyes. “Be wary of Mrs. Fairwater. She is not who you think she is.” “What does that mean?” Clarissa asked as the purple sage pushed her to the far back room of the hut. Her strength was insane for an elderly lady. But the door closed behind Clarissa without an answer. She glanced around the humble bedroom with ample cabinets and dressers. They made the sage's small bed look even smaller. She turned around and looked at the door closed behind her. She couldn’t just leave the purple sage to

Clarissa Clarissa was still cradled in Stefan's warm, sturdy arms. His closeness affected her intimately. “Why are you holding me like this?” She demanded. “Let me down.” His handsome smile grew teasing and larger. He let it hang around his lips lazily. His eyes sparkled with dangerous amusement. “Well, you were not going to leave town otherwise.” He said, pulling his horse to a stop before helping her down to the ground. “Feel free to mount your own horse.” He waved at the mare behind him. She walked over to it and climbed upon its back. It was easier to maneuver on the horse in the leather armor than in her

Clarissa Clarissa dismounted from her horse in a single movement. She appreciated once again how easy and straightforward movement was without the skirts in the way. “So, are we sleeping in shifts or…?” She remembered the tales of heroes who adventured together. One would stay up while the others slept to remain safe. He gave her half a smile before taking their horses by their reigns. “You go ahead and sleep. You need it more than I do.” She didn’t like being told what to do, especially by him, but he was right. The ground was surprisingly soft as she lay down on it. He pulled a bag off the side of his horse. “I am uns

Stefan Clarissa swung her blades gracefully at him. With each swing, he blocked with ease. She went after him with her blades for a full half an hour. Not once did she come close to drawing blood. She grew more aggravated with every movement. Stefan enjoyed the physical activity. It wasn’t long before he was sweating. Clarissa aligned herself with her blades, moving swiftly and harmoniously with them. But her lack of training was evident, allowing him to block, dodge or deflect without difficulty. He did not return her attack until the end. She swung her inexperienced blades at him, and he deflected it towards the ground. Sliding skillfully along her arm, he moved behind her. From there, it was a simple maneuver to wrap her securely in his

Stefan When Stefan trained men at the castle, they were grateful that he took his time to teach them. But she was so rebellious. And it bothered him when she didn’t take it seriously. It was a sign of disrespect. Not just disrespect for him but for the magic- and for the history- one that would be severely punished back home. But the raw emotions that she exhibited were intense. If she could just focus on what she was doing, she would be a force to be reckoned with. He explained to her already that her emotions were the wave that carried magic. ‘So where you direct your emotion is where you direct your magic.’ He was not afraid of her. She could onl

Clarissa After seeing the orb she manifested, Clarissa closed her eyes, and the fire diminished and burnt out. He stepped up to her and touched her shoulder. The flame suddenly lit again and then exploded, sending dangerous sparks everywhere. It left minor burns all over his face and arms, and her sweet face. Clarissa gasped and got up from the rock to see how badly she injured Stefan. “Are you alright?” He ignored the question as he examined the burns on her face. The red sores blemished her skin painfully and he flinched. He didn’t want her hurting. So he pulled out a cream from his bag. “It will help start the healing and ease some of the discomfort.” He offered softly.

Clarissa As the blue cloud dissipated, a sudden rush of darkness overwhelmed Clarissa’s senses. Shadows swallowed the world around. A chill ran through her soul. The bond with Stefan and Blake thrummed with concern, but she was already being pulled away. She stood alone in a broken landscape. The sky was a mass of swirling black clouds, blotting out any light. The ground cracked and crumbled, swallowing remnants of once-great cities. Rivers of molten lava snaked through the land, burning everything in their path. The smell of sulfur and ash assaulted her senses.Clarissa’s heart pounded. People ran in every direction, their screams piercing the air. The devastation was total. The earth shuddered, the once-vibrant land reduced to a hellscape of devastation and despair. Her eyes were drawn to the sky, where twisted winged creatures circled. Once noble beasts like her own Mimi, they were now corrupted and enslaved by the malevolent force that brought this destruction. And then, at the ce

BlakeBlake was eager for the ceremony, having studied its technical aspects all week. Yet nothing had prepared him for the overwhelming magnificence of the experience. The ceremony had not been performed for hundreds of years, as the werecat village patiently awaited the hatching of the sacred eggs. Each generation practiced the ritual in reverence, their chants echoing through the ages in hopes that an Onyx Sage would soon emerge. Now, with the arrival of not one, but three Onyx Sages, the village buzzed with unprecedented excitement. The rhythmic chanting of the villagers infused the air with potent magic, each syllable amplifying the mystical energy that surrounded them. This ancient ceremony was designed to cement the bond between the familiar and the sage, intertwining their souls and enhancing their powers but the effect of multiple Onyx Sages in the same ceremony was uncertain. As the chants grew louder, the magic intensified, weaving an unbreakable connection that would ens

ClarissaBefore the door creaked open, the raucous roar of the massive crowd echoed through the stone hallway, a low, thunderous vibration that pulsed in time with Clarissa’s heart. Each footstep amplified the charged energy in the air. As they stepped out onto the stage where they would bind to their familiars, the blinding sunlight turned the bustling world into a bright blur.As her eyes adjusted, a sea of faces stretching as far as the eye could see came into sharp focus. Hundreds of onlookers packed the grand courtyard, their collective breath held in anticipation. The transition from the thunderous noise inside to the outside’s deafening silence was startling. Heads turned in unison, eyes wide with reverence and curiosity.Stefan subtly shifted his stance, placing himself slightly in front of Clarissa, as if shielding her from unseen dangers the crowd represented. Chief Yungerr stepped forward to address the crowd.“After ages of darkness, the Onyx Sages have been reborn with th

Clarissa Glowing purple flora illuminated the bath cavern, casting a soft light over the shimmering pool of teal-lit water, as Clarissa scrambled out of the tub and grabbed the robe hanging just inside the door of the bath chamber. Mimi followed her. But she didn’t see the mysterious elf anywhere.Where had she gone? Clarissa bolted down the hall, checking down every corridor she passed. But they were as empty as her understanding of the elf’s words. Who was going to ask her to go somewhere? Where? And even more confounding, what truth would be revealed there? The cave’s corridor pulsed with flickering light, ancient runes burning like warning embers. Shadows twisted violently as Clarissa sprinted after the mysterious woman, her breath sharp, the air electric with impending doom. Each step echoed louder, pushing her forward through the narrowing path.At the last corridor, Clarissa gasped and her eyes widened. An old woman in a lavender robe huddled in the corner. • The Stolen Relic   Chapter 106

Clarissa Clarissa lifted her sleepy head from the table, her thoughts spinning sluggishly. The knock that woke her sounded again. Jumping up, she ran to let Stefan in. She fell asleep waiting for him. Disappointment gripped her when she saw the werecat ready to show them to their lessons again. She rubbed her eyes and stared at her confusedly. There was no way it was time already. She hadn’t even been to bed yet. Blake came out of his room looking refreshed and rested. Clarissa felt the dry spit on her face and knew that her hair was a mess. She couldn’t sit in front of everyone all day like this. “Good morning.” Blake greeted them, smiling warmly. Clarissa tried not to let his chipper attitude bother her. But she was exhausted and frustrated. Ignoring his cheer would be challenging; however, it was not his fault that she had not slept. “Just give me a minute to get ready.” She asked, realizing that they had not brought breakfast this morning. She went into her room to cl

Stefan Clarissa kept making strange faces at him throughout dinner. He didn’t appreciate being stared at while he was eating. The chipper conversation rubbed him raw until he could no longer sit still. But once he had Arcadia and Evander in his room, the pressure started to lessen. He had to focus on what was going on back home. Those affairs required his attention now. But his mind forced itself back to the fact that Clarissa had chosen to sit next to Blake during dinner. She hadn’t even sat across from Stefan. A wicked voice in his head questioned what they were doing under the table. The question made no sense. Clarissa kept her hands visible the entire meal. But did Blake? Stefan couldn’t remember, but he did remember the pink flush of her cheeks as she ate. “What do you wish to discuss?” Arcadia asked, sounding like a soldier reporting for duty. She and Evander stood near the closed door at parade rest. Stefan rumbled low in his throat, uncomfortable with their carefu

The sun was casting long shadows throughout the room when people stopped coming in. Mimi observed everything from the corner of the room. Everyone seemed surprised to see him. He unnerved and distracted them momentarily. But Mimi remained quiet and motionless throughout the day. Clarissa sighed, and Chief Yungerr looked over at her. She stretched her back, realizing now how stiff she had gotten. Chief Yungerr’s chair cushions were essential, and she wished her seat was more comfortable. “So, what have you learned?” He asked, interested. “We saw many people today, and they each asked for something different. But every request seemed to have the same core desires. I counted six of them.” Clarissa said, checking her notes. Chief Yungerr listened attentively. His ears twitched. Smiling, he motioned for her to continue. “More p
