Her Memories

The door of Avas room clicked shut behind me as I left. I stood in the hall for a while lost in contemplation as I gazed at the shiny wood floor. Her brittle face and the way she had gazed at those divorce documents as though they contained the secret to her past were all replayed in my mind. Her goal was to recall. Her memory loss was something I had anticipated but witnessing it firsthand was unique.

The atmosphere was eerie. The woman who had once exuded unquestionable confidence now appeared lost as though she didnt feel comfortable in her own skin. After slowly letting out my breath and running a hand through my hair I went to my room. I closed the door after entering and leaned against it for a moment before moving away.

The bedside lamps warm glow cast long shadows throughout the dimly lit room. I approached the desk drew out the chair and took a seat staring at the laptop in front of me without saying anything. sinclair Ava. In the most surprising way she had entered my life a

The hospital smelled of quiet despair and antiseptic. Time stood still there and hope hovered like a ghost in the atmosphere never quite present but refusing to go. My chest never felt any lighter despite the fact that I had been here far too often.I passed nurses who hardly gave me a look as I moved down the hallway. By now they were familiar with me. The man who came to room 407 was always by himself and never spoke. When I got to the door I slowed my pace. Before pushing it open I paused for a brief second.Only the faint glow of the machines that kept her alive illuminated the dim interior of the room. The only sign that time was still passing was the heart monitors steady beeping. The white hospital sheets contrasted with Fionas pale skin as she lay there still. Like the last time I saw her her dark hair framed her face. The woman I had loved for so long was still gorgeous. However she wasnt present. Actually no. I moved closer after swallowing against the lump in my throat. I m

I held Fionas cold hand and wouldnt let go. Silent tears ran down my face pressing my forehead against our joined fingers. I had waited for a response that never materialized for countless nights here speaking into nothing. But the weight of it all was too much to bear tonight. I trembled as I whispered "I miss you." The silence in the room was too great. The monitors steady beep served as a harsh reminder that she was only just barely alive. Not in this place. Not really gone. I was startled back to the present by a loud knock on the door. Quickly wiping my face I pushed the sadness deep inside out of sight. As I straightened my jaw tensed training my features to resemble control. When the door opened a person who was familiar entered. Doctor. Cole Nathan. I had known him for years he was more than just a doctor. A companion. One of the few individuals who never turned away after witnessing my darkest moments. He was silent at first. simply watched me while maintaining a tightening

There was silence inside the mansion. Its too silent. My bare feet sank into the cool marble as I entered the hallway. The quiet was dense and engulfing pressing against my ears. Alexander was not present. The faint sound of his footsteps on the polished floors and the distant hum of his voice on the phone were signs that he was there. The air however was still tonight. by themselves. Something about the isolation made me uneasy but it also gave me courage. There was something substantial here but my world was empty and my memories were a hole I couldnt seem to fill. something genuine. I walked down the hallway after leaving my room my feet bare. I assumed that it was either very early in the morning or late at night but I had no idea what time it was.I needed to take a quick walk and perhaps relieve some of my boredom so I ignored the pain in my head. I took my time moving tracing the smooth walls with my fingertips. They were icy and my fingers found their smooth surface to be unf

With my heart hammering my ribs I turned abruptly. Alexanders dark unreadable face stood by the open doorway. His clenched jaw narrowed eyes and the way his hands curled into fists at his sides were all highlighted by the golden glow from the chandelier. He was like this for the first time."You didnt answer me" he said in a low menacing voice. "Whats your purpose here?" With my throat dry I swallowed. "I—I just—"The necklace on the floor caught his attention. His movements moved too quickly. He walked across the room knelt and picked up the dropped necklace in a matter of seconds. Holding it like a treasure his forearm muscles flexed as his fingers curled tightly around it. Or something that is prohibited."I didnt intend—" He yelled "You had no right" his voice cutting like a whip through the atmosphere.I recoiled. I felt regret twist inside of me. Not that I intended to pry. I didnt intend to touch something so sacred and intimate. With a whisper "Im sorry. I didnt think."He la

She was gone but the door remained open. I leaned against the cabinet and let out a sharp breath as fatigue sank into my bones. Now I felt as though the rooms silence was oppressive and pressing down on me like an intolerable weight. I closed my eyes and curled my fingers around the necklaces delicate chain feeling the cool metal bite into my palm.Oh fuck.I should not have screamed at her. I was consumed by the anger before I could control it because it had come so abruptly and with such violence. However I felt nothing but regret now that she was gone and my own voice was the only thing left resonating in my ears. I forced myself to breathe steadily and slowly while dragging a hand down my face. However the words I had hurled at her like daggers could not be undone by breathing. She loved that piece of jewelry the most. She didnt remove it at all. . Ava flinched at what I said and I could see the raw vulnerable look darkening in her eyes. Still I had persisted. I had allowed my rag

I stood outside Ava’s door my hand hovering just inches from the wood. The only source of illumination in the dim hallway came from the antique wall sconces. The fast thud of my heart was accentuated by the oppressive silence that enveloped me. I couldnt tell how long I had been standing here but my fingers wouldnt move wouldnt shut the door and wouldnt knock. I should leave. I should turn around and go back to my room. But I couldn’t. She had been harmed by me. And that guilt clung to me like a second skin. I clenched my jaw and exhaled slowly trying to steady my nerves. Apologies had never come easy for me.Owning up to my mistakes had never been my strong suit. But tonight I had crossed a line I shouldn’t have. Tonight I had made Ava feel like an intruder in a house where she had no choice but to stay. With a sharp inhale I finally forced my knuckles against the door. A soft hesitant shuffle came from the other side. Then there was no sound. I waited to see if she would pay me an

Ava gasped. . I heard the faint sound hardly more than a sharp gasp for air. felt it. It shook me up and made me feel something I shouldnt have. However I continued. I had no way. My body responded before my mind could and I tightened my fingers around her waist as I drew her closer. She was so cozy and close and I could smell her scent all over me. Next with Gods help I gave her a kiss. The world outside the room vanished as soon as our lips met. Her lips parted slightly when I applied pressure and they were softer and warmer than I had anticipated. Her subtle enticing flavor spread like wildfire throughout my body. Instinctively I moved to intensify the kiss while holding her against me with my hands sliding up her back. She remained motionless. Instead she gripped me tightly as though she needed something to hold onto her fingers curling into my shirt.I lost the last bit of control I had with that little deed. I bent my head squeezing in and consuming. Before sliding inside and tw

I moved slowly deliberately and unsteadily down the dark hallway. My body was still burning from Avas ghost touch and my mind was still spinning. How in the hell had I become affected? I was out of control. Totally. I was always in charge of my behavior feelings and impulses. I had yelled however as soon as I saw her standing there staring at me with those wide unsure eyes.I felt like something had broken inside of me when she gasped and her lips opened just a little in shock. I then gave her a kiss. It wasnt just a kiss. I gobbled her up. I got to my door and combed my hair in frustration. Before pushing the door open and slamming it behind me my fingers balled into a fist.Though the sound reverberated throughout the room it was insufficient to block out my thoughts. With a groan I leaned against the door and closed my eyes. I had to stop thinking about her. The tension between us was thick enough to sever with a knife and the dining room was eerily quiet. Alexander let out a deep breath and rubbed his temples as though he was trying to collect his thoughts while I stood motionless my hands clenched at my sides. His normally unreadable face was marked with something that nearly looked like regret and his jaw was clenched."Ava… "he said at last in a firm but low voice. "I have to share something with you." I squinted. "Whats it?."After a moments hesitation he went on. "I offered to help you because I also needed your assistance."He combed his hair with his hand. "You must behave like Fiona for me. . ."Perplexed I blinked. "What?." He took a deep breath and continued. "Those who own stock in our business the shareholders are unaware that Fiona is in a coma. They will destroy everything we created together if they find out. All of the things she strived for. At least temporarily I needed someone to replace her." I stepped back and shoo

Tightening Caden's robe around my body I sat at the mattress with a tiny smile tugging at the corner of my mouth. I tried to hide the elation that welled up inside of me by twirling a lock of hair around my finger.Emerald had witnessed our moment. She had witnessed us together and that was precisely what I desired. I wanted her to realize that Caden was now mine and no matter how hard she tried she should never have him.My smile expanded as I heard the door creak open. There he was.Caden. His dark face and angry eyes were fixed on him as he stood in the doorway. I was unable to control the shiver of pleasure in my chest. This only marked the start.Caden said sharply "Ivy you shouldn't have done that." I feigned confusion by raising an eyebrow. With a harmless gamble I asked "What do you mean?. I didn't do anything wrong.""You know exactly what I mean," he yelled. His fingers were clenched at his sides as he approached me. "You were aware of her reactions. You were aware of the co

I crawled into the nook of the bed, my knees drawn as much as my chest, and I let myself fall into the softness of the sheets. The room felt so massive and empty, more like my heart. It felt like everything had fallen apart in that one second when I noticed Caden with Ivy. The sound of my heart breaking echoed in my chest, and all I should do was to cry.Tears soaked my cheeks as I buried my face in my arms. My shoulders shook with every sob, and that i couldn’t stop it. I desired to scream, to run away from all of it, but where would i go? What would I do? there has been no escaping the harm inside me.I thought that I might want to consider him. I concept that everything he had said to me, each promise he had made, turned real. But now… now it felt like it changed into a lie.I wiped my face with my sleeve, but the tears simply kept coming. They wouldn’t stop, regardless of how awful it felt,I tried to hold them again. I woke up in a comfortable bed with the aroma of water and herbs still permeating the room. My body hurt but after the maids cleaned me up I felt so light. The tension was somewhat reduced by the warmth of the robe they had put on me but my heart's worries persisted. I had to see Caden. I had to explain everything. The situation that had developed between Ivy and me wasn't what she had said. I did not intentionally hurt her. He and I needed to talk. I couldn't bear the thought of him doubting me. I struggled to get out of the mattress. As I limped toward the door I winced because my legs were weak.Every step felt like it required more effort than the last but I continued driving down the quiet hallway while listening to the Packhouse remote. I could almost feel the silence as I passed through the packhouse. Although the thought of seeing Caden again made my heart race I was unable to stop myself at this point. I was forced to confront him. I had to help him understand. I paused when

The floor of the bedroom was streaked with gold as the morning light came in through the curtains. However warmth did nothing to relieve the cold burden on my chest. The agonizing relics of the nightmare continued to replay in my head. The tears of Ava. the shot. the blood. With a sharp exhale I wiped my face. My head ached and a dull lingering migraine was developing behind my eyes. The visions that wouldnt go away had robbed the sleep. Air was what I needed. After hauling myself from bed I put on a shirt and went into the hallway. I felt the mansions eerie stillness as it encircled me in silence. Too little noise was made. Until—. the slight rumbling of motion. Before I could think my feet dragged me to the kitchen. The air smelled of something savory and fresh herbs as I got closer. Softly the rhythmic sound of a knife striking a cutting board reverberated.I stopped as I rounded a corner. Standing at the kitchen counter Ava chopped tomatoes with a practiced ease her dark hair loo

The darkness encircled me oppressive and dense. The sheets coiled around my body like shackles and the bed beneath me felt far away but I was immobile. I was confined. A sharp sound faint at first but getting louder reverberated in my mind.Let it drip.Pour. Let it drip. I was standing in a long deserted hospital hallway when my eyes opened—inside the dream. The white sterile walls extended indefinitely on either side and the harsh fluorescent lights flickered overhead. A chill ran down my spine as the chilly air pressed against my skin. Something metallic hung beneath the familiar antiseptic smell that filled my lungs. Blood. The steady rhythmic sound of dripping water grew louder hammering at my skull. Water was absent though.Only silence was heard. Then—action. A door at the far end of the hallway creaked open. My throat tightened with breath. Fiona. She entered the gloomy light radiant and complete. Her delicate features were unaffected by illness and her dark hair fell in ge

The sound of my phone buzzing sharply cut through the quiet of my room and vibrated against the bed. I wrapped a towel around my waist and exited the restroom steam curling behind me. I strode over to pick up the device dripping water from my hair onto my bare shoulders.A name appeared on the screen. Cole. my personal investigator. Quietly I hoped he had some good news. However I had a feeling that whatever he was going to say would be beneficial. I responded right away. "You have something tell me?"Coles tone was tinged with the satisfaction of a job well done and his voice was clear. "I have a lot more than that. I am in possession of everything." My heartbeat intensified. "Proceed." "Liam —where he goes what he does and who he hangs out with. He is constantly being watched."A slow smile pulled at my lip corner. "And?" I was embarrassed. However I was unable to ignore the reality at the same moment. I had given him a kiss. Furthermore I had desired it. I didnt fully understand the part of me that had yearned for a mans touch. I let him consume me and melted into him forgetting everything else for those fleeting moments. With a moan I leaned back against the headboard and pressed my fingers to my temples.
