Chapter 3: New friends

Aquatia's POV

When I wake up it's 7am. School starts at 8am so I get up and take my time to eat breakfast. Yesterday I pawned a lot of pearl and gold jewelry I made before I went shopping for clothes and groceries. I bought mostly seafood considering that's what I normally eat but I got some new food as well because I have to get used to eating other human foods. But today I will stick to seafood. Shrimp and seaweed to be exact.

After I'm done eating I try out the shower which is surprisingly easy to use. I also manage to blow dry my hair and comb it. I decide that I want curly hair today and I don't have time to figure out the curling iron so I just close my eyes and imagine my hair in perfect ringlets reaching down to my waist but I decide to keep the purple hair with golden highlights. It's probably how I'm going to keep it from now on. 

Once I'm done I put on some make-up and brush my teeth before choosing what clothes to wear. I pick a pair of black ripped skinny jeans, a light purple crop top and white sneakers. Since this is a new start for me I decided I'm going with a new style for it. No frilly, cute, girly stuff.

When I'm satisfied with the way I look I grab my new backpack and head out. I could have gone to school in my pajamas if I wanted to because all mer-people are naturally beautiful so I would have made an impact anyways. But I want to really impress my new school so they better be ready.

It only takes five minutes to walk to school, I memorized the way yesterday. Mer-people are usually quite smart as well, at least compared to all the other sea-living creatures except dolphins. And with both brains and beauty, I'm a double threat. Hehe, I'm so funny.

I stop at the edge of the parking lot in front of the school and plaster on a confident smile before crossing the parking lot heading for the main building. Since class starts in ten minutes most students are still enjoying the weather outside and everyone turns to stare at me when I walk by. Some people would even cower away but I kind of like the attention so my smile only grows more confident as I shove the school doors open and head for the main office. On my way there people continue to stare at me and I have to hold my laughter when I see some of these mutts' faces. But I'm kind of disgusted by the lustful looks I get from most of the unmated male wolves and even some of the unmated female wolves as well. Geez, what's up with everyone? It's not like I'm a famous actress or anything. 

The woman in the reception is also staring at me as I approach but I continue to keep my smile on.

"Hello. My name is Aquatia Storm and I'm new." I tell her as nicely as possible.

"Uhm... yes of course. Here is your schedule, locker number and combination and a map of the school." She answers after a few seconds of confusion.

"Thanks! See ya." I say as I walk away towards my locker.

I memorize my locker combination and location as well as the school map and my schedule before I shove everything in my locker and get my books for biology class. I walk towards class and tune out everyone staring or whispering while I just hum for myself. Halfway there the bell rings for class but I keep my pace and when I arrive the door to the classroom is closed but I don't bother to knock. Instead I walk right in and the second I do everyone's attention turns to me. No surprise. I walk up to our teacher and give him a note saying I'll be in this class from now on.

"Well, it looks like we have a new student. Would you mind telling us a bit about yourself?" The teacher says.

"Sure. My name is Aquatia but you can call me Aqua. I moved here from the Caribbean and I live alone. My favorite animals are dolphins and in my spare time I like reading, drawing and swimming in the ocean." I say with a smile, trying to make a good first impression.

"Are you single?" A boy in the back asks, causing several people to stifle their laughter.

"Quite happily so." I answer before the teacher points me to my seat.

Next to me is a pretty girl with really dark brown hair to the middle of her back and chocolate brown eyes. She stares a bit at me before she decides to speak.

"Hey, my name is Kayla. Nice to meet you!" She says.

"Hello, my name is Aquatia like I just said. It's nice to meet you too!" I say and smile.

She continues to talk to me and ask me questions during the entire class and when we're finished we are already like best friends. It turns out we have all the same classes so when we both have gotten our stuff for 2nd period art class we head there together. After I introduce myself again we get the task to pair up and draw each other. I used to draw a lot before I got here as well so my drawing actually turns out okey. Although Kayla and the teacher both thought it was fantastic. When we finish and then get to the last class before lunch, math, I once again have to introduce myself. During that class I talk to Kayla until the teacher interrupts.

"Since you two already seem to know the answer, why don't you enlighten us?" The teacher asks, looking at us.

"X=23 while Y=67." I say and Kayla just sits there dumbfounded as the teacher's mouth falls open.

"Yes, that's correct. It's good to know that someone in this class has a brain." The teacher says before he continues the lesson not interrupting me and Kayla again.

When the class is over we give each other company to the lockers where we leave our books.

"Hey, do you want to eat lunch with me and my friends today?" Kayla asks while I close my locker.

"Sure, I'd love to!" I say and smile as we head towards the cafeteria.

When we get there most people stare at us or more precisely, me. Kayla ignores them and walk up to get her food with me following right behind. She gets a sallad, mashed potatoes and a steak with a coke while I only get a salad and water. Another fun fact about mer-people is that we can go a whole week without eating if we want to and it doesn't affect us. Therefore I don't need to make sure to eat three meals a day like most humans and werewolves do. So when Kayla has pointed out that I need to eat more and I assure her I'm fine with this she made her way to a table with four other people already sitting there talking. They stopped to look at us however when we made our way to them.

"Hey guys! This is Aquatia but you can call her Aqua, she's new and she will be eating with us from now on. Aqua, this is Ty, my boyfriend. The girl over there is Hailie with her boyfriend Jackson and this is the leader of our group, Sebastian." She explains while first pointing at a boy with dirty blonde hair and blue/grey eyes. Then a girl with blond hair and brown eyes and a boy with brown hair and blue eyes before she points at a guy with jet black hair and forest green eyes.

When I lock eyes with the last one I can't look away. I feel like drowning in those emerald eyes and I bet his hair is really smooth to run your fingers through. 

"Mate..." Says the boy called Sebastian and that wakes me from my trance.

Oh boy. Mer-people don't have mates but there is like a one in a million chance that a mermaid is mated to a werewolf. Guess I'm that one. What do I do now?
