Chapter 4

Tobias didn't even wince, even though Lucy bit through his skin.

Lucy suddenly went into a trance as she sobbed. "Someone, please save me…"

Tobias noticed her irregular behavior and shook her by the shoulders. "Hey, what's wrong with you?"

Lucy didn't respond. Instead, she passed out.

"Hey, why did you pass out? Is this another trick of yours?"

The nurse asked, "Are you the patient's family member? She might have hemophobia. She needs to be hospitalized for further observation. Please take care of the admission procedures."

Tobias cursed under his breath. He was a very busy man. Why would he waste his time here?

Regardless, he still felt bad for Lucy, who had fallen into his arms when she had passed out.

After he got her checked into the hospital, he rubbed his temples tiredly as he looked at her lying in bed. His phone suddenly rang. It was a call from his assistant, Finn Carter.

"Hello?"

"Bad news, Mr. Ripley! Photos of your squabble with a woman in the middle of the road are trending online. We are unable to stop the pictures from spreading.

"The Queen of Faldoria has also found out about it, and she's furious. Her business partners' reputations are very important to her. She doesn't want her business partners to be involved in scandals."

Tobias replied solemnly, "Find a way to keep things from escalating further. We must make sure nothing goes wrong with our partnership with the Faldorian royal family!"

His expression darkened. Then, he quickly opened Twitter to check the trending topics.

"Damn it!" Tobias cursed under his breath. Then, he looked at Lucy and said coldly, "So, this was your goal! You're a cunning one!"

His friendliness and pity for her were quickly replaced by anger. He left and slammed the door behind him.

Lucy regained consciousness shortly after he left.

"Ms. Everhart, this is your medical report. Don't worry. You're clean."

"That's great!" Lucy felt a great sense of relief wash over her.

At that moment, her phone rang. "Lucy, Ripley Group just contacted us. They offered a handsome pay to hire you as their design director. Do you want to take the job?"

"Sure. Arrange a meeting with them to discuss the details."

After she ended the call, she got up and left the hospital.

Right as she got to the entrance of the hospital, she saw an old man who was clutching his chest. His face was pale, and he looked like he was about to fall over at any moment.

"Young lady… please help me…" The old man passed out right after he said that.

"Sir!" Lucy yelled in shock. Then, she quickly carried the old man on her back and took him into the hospital.

"Doctor, this man just fainted!"

The doctor quickly took the old man to the emergency room. Lucy wanted to leave, but the old man grabbed her hand tightly, and she couldn't break free.

She was a little speechless, but she had no choice but to stand beside him.

The doctor said, "You're his family, right? He had a heart attack, but he was brought here in time. You can stay here and take care of him now."

"Okay."

Lucy couldn't help but feel sad when she thought about the fact that the family she had found after so long was not actually her family.

Perhaps when she grew old, she would end up like this old man—alone, with no one to care for her.

The old man's phone suddenly rang. The caller ID was "Tobias".

Lucy figured it was probably his family calling, so she picked up.

"Hello?"

A familiar voice came from the other end of the line. "Who are you? Why are you on my grandpa's phone?"

"I'm in the emergency room of Central Hospital. Your grandfather had a heart attack and fainted. Please come as soon as possible."

"Alright. I'll be there in a while."

The person hung up.

After ten minutes, the door opened, and a man walked in.

"Are you okay, Grandpa?"

Lucy looked at the man. Both of them were stunned when they saw each other.

"Why are you here?" they asked in unison.
