She was exhausted. Her head hurt in a way it had never hurt before. She closed her eyes, and she could see everything in front of her. Every memory was fighting with another to get there to the front of her mind. It was like fighting with herself in a way that she had never done before. Everything was just flashing, and then it would fade, and then it would flash again. The memories just flooded her mind, and it was extremely painful at the exact same time that she was trying to figure everything out and where everything was fitted together. Nothing was easy right now for her the pounding her head was even more than the physical pain that she had sustained from falling down the mountainside. All she could do was closed her eyes to block out everything that was around her. All she could really hear was the sound of his heartbeat against her ear.
It was slow and steady, and he just kept his hands on her back. It was the only thing that was letting
Benton woke up with a start as he felt the shirt he was wearing moving slightly. It was also wet. It took him a minute to realize he was on the couch and not in his bed and that there was another person there by his side. She was making noises that he couldn’t hear properly. He shifted slightly, and then he knew she was asleep. She was also trapped in a nightmare. “Kelly?” he asked quietly. Then he tried to wake her gently. He was trying as hard as he could to get her to wake up. Her sounds were getting worse. He then shook her a little harder, and she gasped. “Kelly, wake up.” “I’m, I’m awake.” She said as she tried to find her voice. He saw her face into the darkness and knew she had been crying in her sleep. “It’s okay. You’re here with me. Sweetheart, you are safe.” He said softly, rubbing her back as she sat up. “Benton, it hurts.” She said as she rubbed her head a bit more. She was not even trying to hide the tears
“Does the why matter?” he asked as he looked at her. “Yes it does.” She said as she lifted her head to look at him. “Alright. Then let me tell you a few things that you don’t know about us.” Benton said as he looked into her eyes. “My great grandfather is the one who began the family company. He is the one who made the most money before I took over. He grew it from nothing to what you see here. When his son took over they were still new money and were looked down on. So my grandfather was forced to marry my grandmother because she was raised in the right circles, as my mother would say. My grandfather was distant and then when they had kids, they had to marry from my grandmothers circles not my grandfathers. Everything was a transaction between them. My Father had to do the same. He was forced to marry my mother and then have children. He was never happy if she was around, and I am not sure my mother has ever been a happy a day in her life unless she w
The silence in the room was deafening to the couple in the wide space. The night had closed around them and the medicine he had given her must have been easing her pain in her head because she didn’t seem like she was in pain. The confession he had just laid at her feet was something that he never had thought he would say out loud. They didn’t know all that much about her family. He had only gone because he was trying to see what type of people would do something like that when they knew for a fact that their daughter was alive but in a safe place. The police also were concerned with the way that things were happening. There was too much going on with the missing fishing boat and then the fact of finding of the woman miles away and very injured. Benton had been in contact with them the entire time. Even Kelly had been in touch with them and had talked to them over the pho
Benton could feel the change around them. He had been open with her and she was seeing things a little more clearly. Things like all things were starting to be clearer for her. As well. She moved a little bit to be closer to him as they were lying on the couch under the comforter still. Though the couch was the size of a small twin bed it was enough for both of them to be there together without having to be pressed up against each other. Though it seemed more comfortable that way. She surprised him as she leaned down a bit as she moved herself forward and then she found his mouth. As soon as her soft sweet lips pressed against his he didn’t think that he would ever find something that tasted so good. His hand went from her back to her head and laced his fingers through her hair being gentle knowing that she still had bruises there. The kiss grew as she got closer to him, and he could feel her body pressed into his more. Their mouths danced together and then he tried
The morning light was creeping through the curtains though they were drawn tight. Benton blinked his eyes open and realized again he was not on his bed. He was still on the couch though there was no one next to him when he moved. He bolted to a sitting position looking around and scanning the room. Last night could not have been a dream of any sort. He knew it had happened. He could still feel her body pressed up against his. Even though it was long past the time she had fallen asleep. There was a slight movement at the curtains, and he stretched his body as he stood and made his way over to where she was. He had to assume it was her at the windows as no one else was there. He made his way over almost silently and then as he got closer he could hear the almost silent sobs that were coming from the area. He wanted to rush there and to find out what had happened to her to make her upset. They had ended the night for the second time on a good note he had thought.
Chapter 33 It was late afternoon on what seemed to be an extremely lazy day for the two of them. Most of it she was trying to make sense of whatever she was remembering. Everything was coming back in complete waves. He could tell when one memory triggered another because it was written on her face. Every memory cause pain. Everything was coming back to her, but it was taking a lot longer than before. Everything was hurting her as well. She would go through times where she had to sit there with her eyes closed and then more times she was just sitting there with a blank stare on her face. None of it was making any sense to him as she would mumble things. Every once in a while she would look up and see him staring at her trying to read how she felt. He did not want her to strain herself either. He was finding he was having a few issues with the balance of everything when dealing with her. The memories w
A few days later of sitting in the dark and room Benton walked in from being downstairs in the lab doing whatever he was working on for the day. Luckily she had just gotten out of the shower for the first time in a few days for that he was grateful. Her hair was still wet and she had put it in braids. Her hair was just a little bit longer than her Shoulders he was glad that she was finally starting to take care of herself again on her own. She looks like she felt better for the first time in a few days. The doctors had been basically keeping her asleep most of the time except to eat and drink a few things. The medicine that she had been placed on was enough to knock her out very quickly. Benton had watched over her for the first day then he had gone to the lab the next day with her phone programmed that if she had it and sent him a message he would be back within minutes. There wasn't anything that he could do except wait for her. he was getting used to the idea of ha
“Can you tell us anymore about who was the one who hit you with the fishhook?” The detective said as he changed his tone very quickly after she was so open and blatantly honest even though it was extremely hard for her. It was written on her face how hard it was for her to talk about all of this. For her to even admit how hard losing her memory and getting her memory back and how painful it was that they can possibly understand every word. That was something that the detectives had not expected that she would be so open about. The fact that she had immediately started the entire conversation explaining that though she did recover most of her memory she was still in the process of placing everything and learning the meanings of everything again and who is extremely important in her life. They often didn't find with a lot of people that they actually questioned. “My ex was the one who hit me with the fishhook both times. We had gotten into a huge fight because h
It had been three months since they got married, and now it was time for Benton's birthday. He was turning 34, and he knew at that time that a few months ago, he would have never really put any stock into how old he was. Now he realized that he was ten years older than his wife. He also had one year to fulfill the clause that his father had left in the will. That didn't seem to be too much of a hardship for him, and he enjoyed trying to make sure that they fulfilled it. Kelly had made sure that everything was simple on his birthday for him. He didn't want to have a huge celebration. He just wanted to spend it with her. After all the work that they had done with the quantum diffuser and the different aspects of its building for different applications, this was going to be a relaxing weekend that she had planned for the two of them. They weren't even leaving the compound. They were just going to be spending it mostly in their private apartments. T
The day after the wedding, Benton had scheduled a news conference to discuss the quantum diffuser. He had also scheduled a little bit of a personal update. They were going to announce the wedding and the fact that they were happily married now. He was more excited about everything than he had been in his entire life. The more that they got settled into the compound together, the happier he was with everything that was going on. The news had broken with her name, considering how many people had been charged in the crime and how many other people needed to come forward to receive the money that they had donated. Benton had set up a fund that would pay everybody back because there was no telling where the money had gone since nobody had any in any of their accounts. He didn't want people to have to pay for being nice. All they had to do was prove that they had given money to that particular campaign on go fund me and they would receive the money-back no questions
“You may now kiss the bride.” was the only thing that Benton heard the entire time he was looking at Kelly. He knew that he had said his vows and that she had replied with her own. But that was the only thing that he could focus on. As soon as the officiant had said that, he bent down, and he gave her a very slow but not majorly graphic kiss. Cameras went wild, in everybody cheered for the two of them. “Welcome to the family chipmunk.” Penny sighed as she looked at Kelly for the first time, knowing that they had not been introduced before, but the small woman had been a part of every decision that her brother had made for her. “Chipmunk?” Kelly asked as she looked at a Penny. “It's just a cute family name that I don't even think Benton realizes why I call you that. It isn't the fact that you appeared out of the wilderness. I don't need to know the story. I have a feeling I already do, and if you need anyone to help you navigate t
That's when a new voice came from behind them. Benton hadn't even seen his older sister walk up through the arch of trees. “Mother, do be a dear and just sit down. Benton is finally happy, and he deserves this chance. He made his choice. And it's time for the family to support him instead of trying to get him to do what we want. His little chipmunk is the one that makes him this way. If he says that he's going to fulfill the clause, it doesn't really matter what happens to the rest of us. We should all be grateful that he was even willing to put himself on the line like that. However, this is his day. This is not the day for you to throw a holy fit in front of a bunch of strangers.” Penny stated very eloquently as she began to look around the area. She was slightly impressed with what everything had looked like. It wasn't like she had been to the area before, but she could see what had been done. “This is fitting for you, Benton. That you marry your little chipmunk an
The day was perfectly clear. There was not a cloud in sight, and there was nothing but blue skies and the warm rays of the sun beating down as they went to the area that she had chosen. There was an area that she could get dressed because she was adamant, he was not going to see her before the ceremony in the dress. The way that she looked at it was that she had already had it an extraordinarily large amount of bad luck that had turned to good luck. She didn't want to take any chances of anything else happening that could possibly ruin the day. When they got to the area, they split up, and Benton was already in his suit. He looked over the area and saw that everything was absolutely gorgeous. She had done so well with the help that he had provided her with the team that was able to do what she wanted to make this the perfect day for them. This was the day he never expected to come. He never expected that he would be the one getting married. Instead, he would b
The meeting with her father went basically the same way, even though the man seemed to show a little bit more remorse for the actions that he did. After the meeting, the detectives looked her over and saw that she had completely changed during the meetings. The woman that was composed that was in front of him right now was not the same woman who was in the interrogation room. It had all been an act on her part that she was so secure and happy in her life. She had made it a little more exaggerated to prove a point to her family. It was a good point to make. They understood why and so did the man that was standing next to her. She was happy, and that was easy to see. What had gone on in the interrogation rooms was her making sure that her family was going to know that she was well taken care of while they were the ones that tried to end her life. Benton took her back to the apartment and knew that she was probably going to have some kind of break. Though every t
They arrived at the police station holding hands, and the detectives saw the ring on her finger and gave them both congratulations. It didn't seem like anyone understood why she wanted to be there, and she wanted to confront both of her parents, but she wanted to do it separately was the fact that she wanted to make sure that they knew by trying to kill her, she had given her the opportunity to find everything that she had ever wanted in her life. That was Benton. He was the thing that she needed the most in her life, and she knew now that as well. It had nothing to do with the amount of money that he owned or the company or who he was. It was the last part partly. He was absolutely everything that she could have ever wanted for a partner in her life. He supported her in ways that nobody ever had before. “Your mother was extremely surprised that you requested to talk to her.” the detective said as he looked at Kelly. He was trying not to show his shock about t
Kelly looked at Denton two days before the day that they were going to get married, and he knew she had something to say. Though she wasn't exactly sure how to say it. It was written all over her face that there was something that she wanted to discuss, but she didn't exactly know-how. He started to get a little frightened because of everything that was going on because of the wedding that maybe she wasn't ready for. Maybe she was going to cancel it. Every bad thing that could possibly happen was going through his mind at the moment. There was really too much tension going on in the room, and he didn't know how to handle it. “Is there something that you want to discuss?” he finally came out and asked and looked at her knowing that she could come out of the left-field with something. And it would throw him completely out of his game. There were so many things that she could just end between them in there, and every bit of happiness that he had fo
Kelly soon found out that planning a wedding in a week was not exactly easy. Though she had a spot picked out in her mind making sure that it was open and that it was available was going to be difficult even though she knew that she could probably use the name and get the space if she needed to. She didn't want to be one of those types of people, and it wasn't in her, so when she found out that the area that she had wanted was already booked, she wasn't all that surprised. It was a beautiful place to have a wedding. Instead, she had put a little bit of money down that he had given her for the other couple to be able to have a few more things. She continued to look for a place, and then she found another one that was absolutely gorgeous, and it was outside. Everything was perfect for the vision that she had in her mind. And it was open. She immediately booked it and then let him know that they had the space available and where it was. He had already hired a com
