I fled away

Annoyance swelled up on my whole body as I saw Leonard sitting and all his whole glances were focused on the newspaper he was reading

. I could not believe my eyes. I was so annoyed and disappointed in him.

“Leonard! How could you do this to me? I collapsed yesterday in the afternoon and was taken to the hospital and you did not bother to come and meet me in the hospital or even try to call me.”The tone I was talking with was filled with rage.

“I still tried calling your number this morning, but you picked it up and cut the phone on me. Why would you do such a thing like that? What if I had died from collapsing? Is this how you would still have acted cold?”I continued nagging without bordering if my workers were in the house.

“I was so busy and I was tired yesterday to come and meet you at the hospital.“He said slightly.

“You were tired or you were with that slut, Vivian.”He could see the disgust that was on my face.

“What is going on between you and Vivian? So you are cheating on me with Vivian,right?. You are a very shameless man and I am very disappointed in you.No wonder you were so persistent on getting a divorce.”He interrupted me without allowing me to finish all that I was saying.

“Excuse me, how do you know all of this?”His face was so calm with no remorse.

“I know all of your secrets and how you both are dating. But know that your relationship can not last because I would not allow it.What do you see in her?”I continued nagging.

“Many things. She has many qualities that you do not possess. She is intelligent and elegant. But you are different, you just like to embarrass me. See the mess you made yesterday at the party, as my wife you should look presentable and beautiful to represent me. Vivian could hold a proper conversation unlike you who just stand still like a statue and stutter. I want me an eloquent woman not someone like you.” I looked into his eyeballs as he raised his voice at me.

”You know what, you can compare me to your one and only Vivian all you want, but you know what I am not going to sign those divorce papers for you and nothing is going to stop that. l would stay in this house and have all of your kids for you and nothing is going to stop that.”I stood my ground on not accepting the rubbish he was offering me.

“Look woman, you must sign those papers as we agreed on our contracts. I would pay you the $150,000 that we agreed on and you would leave my house.”

“You must be joking.” I tried to reduce the way I was arguing with him to protect the baby in my womb. I stopped arguing with him and tried to tell him I was pregnant. He stood up from where he was sitting and went upstairs to our room. I did not want to follow him upstairs to not stress myself.

I waited for him till he came downstairs. As he highlighted from the stairs, I wanted him to be calm before I told him the news, but he was not looking at my direction and his whole face was looking gloomy.

“Leonard!”I called him.

“Leonard, I have got something to tell you.”

“Please I am not in the mood, let me be.”He snorted.

I saw the car key in his hands and I wondered where he could be going without allowing the driver to drive him to where he was going. I did not like the way he snubbed me and I didn’t want to nag him because I didn’t want to spend my energy on that just to protect my pregnancy.

I would wait for him till he comes back. I just hoped that he would not go and meet that Vivian lady. I had better be optimistic and let my mind be at peace for the baby’s sake.

FEW HOURS LATER:

I checked the time and saw that it was already 10:30 pm and Leonard was not yet back from where he had gone. After I had eaten my dinner, I went upstairs to take my bath.

As I came out of the bathroom to the room, I could already smell alcohol and it was from Leonard. He came home drunk. Leonard was a very disciplined man when it came to taking alcohol.

“Where are you coming from?”He was so drunk that he could not behave properly.

“I want you to perform your duty as a wife to me.” I thought he was the one initiating a divorce the other time.

“Excuse me?” I was so surprised.

He moved closer to me and started touching me but I pushed him away. I was not in the mood and was still upset with him and he pushed me on the bed. He undressed me and threw the towel that I used to cover my body and I was barely naked.

He was touching my private area and satisfying himself and I was not comfortable I was resisting but he kept on touching me. He was stronger than me and I could not defend myself. I did not want it and couldn’t resist him because I wanted to be submissive to him.

“I guess you must be whoring around, you are so loose.”He said while touching my private area.

“Please stop, Leonard “I shouted at him because I did not want it.

“Vivian is tighter than you.”I felt sad after he said those words to me. I stopped resisting him because it was of no use and was submissive to him. He put himself in me. After he had finished having sex with me, I was so weak and tired.

“You are only useful for sexual purposes.”He dozed off after saying those awful words. I felt miserable. He enjoyed Vivian than me. He dared to flaunt that he was cheating on me in my presence.

That was the height of it. I did not think I could continue with this relationship anymore. For Leonard to have sex with me and it was not even consensual, if I wanted it or not. Leonard must be a beast for him to shame me. I began sobbing and took the towel he had threw and covered up myself.

I felt ashamed of what he had done to me and how he shamed me. He knew that I was not cheating on him and he not only body-shamed me but slut shamed me. He still had the guts to compare me with Vivian. The abuse was already getting too much. I felt pain all over my body after the unwanted sex. I hoped that nothing bad happened to the baby in my womb.

I would not want to lose this baby because of Leonard. It seemed like the abuse was not going to stop anytime soon. I have to save my life. Why was I just sleeping on the bed, I quickly went to look for where he had kept the divorce papers. I signed the divorce papers.

Leonard had already hurt me enough. I don’t want to care about what people would say anymore. There was nothing else I could do to protect the marriage. A man that does not want to be kept would not be kept. I took a second reasoning and realized that I don’t have any source of income.

The only money I had with me was $30 and that was from the change I still had from when I went to buy groceries at the supermarket. I just had to leave this hell out of this marriage. I had packed all of my things while he was still asleep. I packed the things I could pick.

It was already 6:00 am and my maids were not around at the moment I was about to leave. It was more easier for me to not ask where I was going. I dropped the divorce papers in the room thinking that nobody would ask about where I was going with my box.

My gateman asked me and I told him to not bother and that was how I fled. I did not know where I was going. I do not have any family. The man and woman that I thought were my father and mother were not my real parents. My adopted mother that I got into a contract marriage to save died a month after two months of the contract marriage .

It was on her deathbed that she told me that she and the person I thought was my father were not my real parents. I was sad at the moment; hearing the shocking news and losing her at the same time. I was just walking without a destination. My body was in pain over what Leonard had done to me the previous night.

Why would Leonard treat me like a sex object? Leonard can be rude and arrogant but not to be kind to be violent towards women. I was already tired and saw a taxi and stopped it. I don’t know where I was going but all I knew was that I was hungry. I told the taxi to take me to the nearest restaurant he could take me to.

I paid the cab man out of the thirty dollars that was with me. I got into the restaurant and got the remaining change I had that could get me what I wanted. I was already penniless and I was looking up to God to provide for me. As I left the restaurant, I saw a white limousine that was waiting for me.

I noticed the car was following the taxi that brought me to the restaurant. I was heading towards the left side of the restaurant and noticed that the car was following me. I had to pause my walking because it seemed like I was being stalked.

A middle-aged man highlighted from the car and I wondered why he must be stalking me.He looked rich with the way I saw him.

”Good morning, Sophia.”He greeted me as I gave him a surprised look.

“Excuse me, I guess you are mistaking me with someone else”

“I am sorry, I meant to say Mrs Cherry Angelou. I know you may not know me and you are looking surprised. I am your mother’s Secretary and I am here to take you to her.”I just gave him a laugh after he had said that.

“You must be kidding me. I hope you know that right?”
