That very night, Steve sneaked Veronica into the pack without being caught, but there was a problem on their way to the pack- Veronica got too tired and because she had been in so much pain for a long time, she became unconscious just miles before they arrived at Fire Dawn Pack.

Afraid and confused, he was torn between two options: whether to keep going with her or to abandon her somewhere.

Abandoning her was dangerous but taking her like that to the pack was equally dangerous. He had to stop for a moment to think his decision through. He laid her on the bare ground and began to do some fast but deep thinking.

If he was caught with an unconscious stranger in his arms, he'd risk being thrown into jail but if he leaves her there, she might be attacked and killed.
