My blood started to boil at the sight of them. "What the heck are you guys doing here!?" I busted out. Honestly, I wanted to have some alone time.
Shouldn't they be in their room or something?
Hearing my voice, they all turned and smiled, except for Xander who still had his back to me. "Hi, Hailey. Would you like to join us?" Sandy asked as she brought out different kinds of sandwiches and cakes that made my mouth water.
But not enough for me to join them. I still have my pride!
I averted my gaze to their food and glared at them. "You haven't answered my question."
Sheen got up from a sitting position and grinned. "We basically followed you here. And when we saw where you went, we decided to have a picnic." He admitted.
So they were following me.
A+ honesty for them.
Leo grabbed one of the sandwiches and smiled at me. I could have sworn I saw light in the background when he smiled. "I have to say, Miss Collins. You know your way around here to have found this spot. It's relaxing." He said and took a bite out of his sandwich.
I snapped out of my thoughts when I noticed Sandy handing me a sandwich. I shook my head, still holding my ground as I said, "I thought we had an agreement that you would leave me alone?"
"Unless you engage in a conversation with us first." Continued Sheen and grabbed a sandwich. I noticed that Xander still hasn't spoken a word. I fixed him a glare in which he didn't notice seeing as he was enjoying his sandwich.
"That's not the point." I said. Then I suddenly felt someone grabbing a hold of my hand and tugging it down. I looked down and saw Sandy smiling at me as she said, "Sit. Join us."
"No."
"Please?"
"No."
Suddenly, Sandy frowned and her face turned red as she got up and faced me. "Listen-I-don't-want-to-repeat-myself-again-so-just-do-as-I-say-and-sit! Are we clear!!?" She said it so fast that I almost didn't catch her words but heard enough to know what she wanted me to do. I sat on the blanket wordlessly while Sheen burst out laughing.
"That's what you get when you piss her off." He said. Sandy ignored him and took her seat beside me. Her face now looked happy and contented as she offered me one of their sandwiches.
I shook my head no. "I already have mine." I said and showed it to her. But honestly speaking, I like my sandwich better since it has my favorite filling. Nutella.
Sandy stared at it for a while before she took it off of my hands and handed me hers instead. "There, no more sandwich so might as well eat the one I made." She smiled sweetly and before I could stop her, she took a bite out of it.
"No!!" I said in a horrified voice as I watch her chew on my sandwich and saw her eyebrow furrow. She gulps and then frowned at my sandwich.
"Ugh!! This is fattening. It's not even a week yet and I ate chocolate." She said and she shifted her gaze towards Sheen who was still enjoying his own food. She then pulled Sheen towards her and shove my sandwich into his mouth saying, "Here, Sheen. You can have it." Sheen coughed violently as he choked while I look in despair at my sandwich.
No!! My Nutella!!! How dare they do that!?!
These heartless bastards!!
I glared at Sandy. "That was my sandwich!!" I said.
Sandy drank some water before she turned to look at me. "Well, you’re welcome."
"But I liked it!!" I said. It was useless telling her that now since my sandwich is long gone. I sighed and shook my head. "Forget that. Can I please know why you guys followed me here? On my secret spot?"
"Uhhhh.....technically, it's Leo's spot, you know? Seeing as he is the son of the owner of this school and all." Argued Sheen.
I glared at him to shut up. "That's not that point now, is it?" I retorted.
"We want to recruit you as a member of the student council." Leo said and before I could say anything else, he added, "It's not a part of our issue. This time, this is purely for the sake of the school."
I stared at him for a long time before I asked, "Why me? Aren't there any capable students of filling up the spot?"
Leo shook his head. "The person we are looking for is someone who has a great influence on students to maintain peace and that he/she is dedicated to this role. So far, we've only seen two. One is Miss Stan and the other is you. Since Miss Stan already declined the offer, we are giving the spot to you."
I snorted. "Really?"
"Come on, Hailey." Sandy urged. "Take the spot!! We all would like to have you in our group."
"Hmmm.....MmmmMMMM!!!" I heard someone mumbled and saw that it was Xander. I raised an eyebrow at him before I turned to face the others and asked, "What's wrong with him?"
As if one cue, Xander turned to face me. I have to stifle a gasp when I saw that his hands were tied in front of him and his mouth was covered in tape. "The heck happened to you?" I asked and I saw him glare at me. Sheen immediately went to his side and placed an arm around his shoulder and laughed.
"Oh him?" He pointed at Xander. "He's actually on a diet and asked us to tie his up and tape his mouth so he couldn't eat. The guy has been pigging out for the past few weeks, you know?"
Xander turned and frowned at Sheen before he elbowed him making him fall to the ground. Once Sheen had fallen, Xander took that opportunity as he ripped the tape off of his mouth. He glared at Sheen saying, "If anyone should be on a diet here, it's you! How many of those sandwiches have you eaten?" He asked him before he turned to face me. "These fools tied me up so that I won't say anything rude to you, but you know what? Screw them. Whether you join us or not is up to you, but I'll tell you this. I don't like you and if you do join us, don't expect me to treat you like a comrade.""Seven." Sheen answered his question.
"Sheen, I think that was a rhetorical question."
I gave Xander a long hard look and borrowed some courage from my cool self. So whether I join or not, he'll still be a jerk huh? Well, that's good to know. "Don't worry. I'm not interested." I told him. "But I'm just curious though. What makes you think that I'll be good at being the peacekeeper?"
"The way you handled the girls at the cafeteria was proof." Said Leo. He smiled and nodded at me as if in approval. "We've heard of you breaking fights before but we really haven't seen you in action until 27 minutes ago."
"But that was hardly a fight!!" I argued.
"True. We also heard that you help the students from being bullied."
"Not true."
"True."
"Not true."
"True." As if on cue, my gaze went past Leo and saw a couple of jocks tossing a nerd’s bag back and forth. The jocks laugh as the nerd tried so hard to grab his bag in mid-air. I frowned.
Why do the jocks always pick on the nerds? It's getting really annoying.
Might as well get some fun out of it.
"Excuse me for a moment." I said as I got up. My eyes not leaving the jocks as I made my way towards them.
Once I was behind one of the jocks, I tapped his shoulder. He shrugged me off at first, but on the second try, he saw his other friend pause after he caught the bag. Then he and the nerd both gaped as they look at me. The first jock seemed confused by their reaction until his friend pointed behind him. Slowly, the first jock turned and when he saw me, he screamed and back away a few feet from me.
Let's keep this to ourselves but I do love their reaction when they see sneaking up behind their backs. They immediately go from bullies to screamers.
"H-Hailey? What brought you here?" He asked nervously.
My cool girl act was in the spotlight now. "I should ask you the same thing." I said. "What's going on here?"
This time, the second jock answered. "We were just.......playing with the nerd, right?" The second jock gave the nerd a look. The nerd hesitated and looked at the ground. Confused about what he was going to do. It was obvious that he was getting uncomfortable.
"Do you know what time it is?" I asked them.
"Uhhhh..........12 something?"
"Exactly. It's lunchtime and you guys are making noises and making me lose my appetite." I said and my eyes turned ice-cold as I said my next word. "Do you know that my lunch in the cafeteria was already ruined? And I don't want that to happen here too. So far, I'm just keeping it together in a thin line. You don't want that to break now, do you?"
They all seemed to turn pale. The first jock quickly backed away towards his friend. "S-Sorry, Miss Collins. It won't happen again." Then he grabbed the bag from his friend and gave it to the nerd. "Let's go." He told his friend and they both hurried away from me.
I grinned inside of me. Did you see that!!? They ran away like pussies! The cowards.
"U-Umm....." I turned my head to the side to see that the nerd had approached me. I have to give it to him. He didn't run away like those cowards. "Thank you." He said and looked at the ground instead.
I snorted. "Next time. Don't let them take your bag." I said to him before I turned my back and headed towards the student council to finish our argument. Once I got there, I sat on the mat.
"Where were we?" I asked and suddenly remembered. "Oh yeah. Not true." I said.
The Student Council stared at me as if I had grown another head. "That answer is null and void."
"Are you serious?"
"What was that just now?"
"Excuse me?"
I raised an eyebrow at them. "What?"
Sheen shook his head. "Didn't you just realize what you just did just now? You help someone when we told you that you like helping people."
"I didn't help him." I told him.
"Are you retarded or something?" Said Xander making me frown at his chosen word. "Then what do you call that just now?"
"It's called amusement, you caveman. I like seeing their faces when I do that. Especially the male jocks. I mean, did you see the looks on their faces?! Pretty nice transition from a bully to a pussy. Ha!"
Instead of laughing with me, they gave me weird out looks.
"....."
"Unbelievable."
"What is she?"
"She's a demon."
I frowned at them. "Hey, if you guys don't have anything nice to say and don't say anything at all."
"Nonetheless, the offer still stands." Said Leo.
Xander gave him a look. "Are you sure, man?"
Leo nodded. "Her motive might not be in the right place but she does have the influence and she's only doing her.....amusement to bullies."
"You guys make it sound like what I'm doing is a crime!" I said and a little bit offended by how they are talking about me. I sighed and shook my head as I started to get up. I dusted my shirt off. "Anyways, I'm going."
"Miss Collins." Leo called out as I started to leave. "The offer still stands. Take your time and think about it." He said.
I nodded as finally took off. As I left, I already told myself and assured it that I will not join their stupid group.
At least, that's what I thought until one week later, something happened making me doubt my decision as I needed their help.
Sunday morning.I was in a cafe, drinking a cup of coffee as I waited for my mom to pick me up. Today we have a meeting with the board regarding mom's new fashion catalog. There, they will judge mom's works and will decide whether to sponsor the runlway project that mom has or not.As for me, I'm just going there for moral support.Mom and I were supposed to head there together, but since I woke up late, she told me that she'll pick me up around 8 AM specifically at this cafe.Through my sunglasses, I checked my phone to see that it was 7:56 AM. Four minutes till the said meeting time. With a sigh, I decided to check my Twitter account to see that I have 254 new followers. I scrolled them over to see that these new foll
I paid for the cab as soon as I arrived outside of my dad's restaurant. I went to the back and used the back door to head to the kitchen where I know my dad is.Once I entered, I quickly got a whiff of the chef's cooking. My mouth started to water but I need to find my dad first. The staff didn't really pay any attention to me as I entered since they already know who I am. I gathered my hair up and put an extra hairnet on top of my head from the counter. Now we don't want to ruin my dad's business when the customers find a hair on their dishes, don't we?It wasn't long until I found my dad with some of the chefs. He was guiding and instructing them what to do and how it's done."Use these tomatoes instead of those. We only want the finest ingredients for this." Ordered my dad.
My dad closed the restaurant early today so that he and I can go home together. We talked on the way about things that happened earlier at the restaurant. We laughed and joked about the customers and our work.I actually enjoyed the ride home considering that I don't always hang out with my dad this much because of his busy schedule. As soon as we got home, we found mom and Kaila on the couch talking in hushed voices. When they saw us, they both got to their feet. Mom beamed and came to hug me before she went to dad kissed him on the cheek. Not wanting to see more of their PDA, I went and sit on the couch with Kaila. You'd think that 20 years of marriage will help cease the lovey-dovey affection of my mom and dad with each other but no. They’re still had over heels for each other.
Alright, Hailey. Just knock and get this over with. I told myself as I stood in front of the student council room. After I sent the text to Sandy, she immediately replied and told me to go to the student council room before classes start. My fist shook as I readied myself to knock on their door. Then I suddenly changed my mind and withdrew my hand back. This is a bad idea. I just know it. I thought and I couldn't agree more with myself. But it's not like I could back away from this either. My mom's runway project depends on their participation and if my mom can't convince them then at least I'd give it a shot. After all, it's better to do something than nothing at all. As much as I hate the idea of asking them for h
The whole morning during class, I avoided making eye contact with them. It was embarrassing and awkward at the same time. Luckily, they didn't bother to talk to me. I guess it was because of their promise not to speak to me unless I initiate the conversation. And I can't say that I am not happy about that. When lunch came, I was afraid to go out and eat at my spot under the tree in fear that they would be there. So instead, I went to eat at the cafeteria at my reserved table. I, of course, brought my own lunch with me. After the soup thing on the first day, I don't trust the cafeteria for edible foods anymore. As usual, I was alone at my table as I silently and slowly ate my lunch, chicken sandwich, and an apple.I heard a crash and I immediately looked up to see where the noise was coming from.
Chapter 17As soon as we got there, I started to regret my decision. "You can go with Sandy to her private dressing room. You can use the bathroom there." Said Leo."You guys have private rooms?" I ask in bewilderment. They all paused and stared at me as if I was stupid. Then I suddenly remembered that they are The Pandorgriffs and it all suddenly made sense. "Of course. Sorry for asking." I muttered.I followed Sandy to the far left side of the room and opened the door as she ushered me in. Inside, I felt like I was inside a Hannah Montana closet. On the walls were racks filled with shoes and clothes. A mini crystal chandelier hung in the middle. At the center of the room was a huge round bed with red bed sheets.
The next day, after I made the deal with the student council, there was a ceremony the next morning. Of course, it was held by the student councils and none of us knew what it was. But all I heard was that it was something important that all the students of Waynard High must witness.I let out an irritated sigh. It's been 15 minutes since we were called down to wait and I'm getting bored. This better be worth it or else!!!Looking around me, it seems as if I was the only one feeling irritated. The other students seemed pretty excited about this ceremony that they are planning. I was on the verge of throwing small papers at the students and blame them on the person next to me just to cause a scene but noooo.....cool Hailey won't allow it.Killjoy."Students, may we
As soon as we got into the student council room, Xander made me sit on one of the couches while he and the rest of the members looked down on me, which I really don't appreciate. The way that they were looking at me was as if I was someone who was crazy or something."What?" I frowned when they look at me for too long. "What is it?"Leo shook his head. "I don't even know where to start." He said and took in a deep breath before looking at me again. "But I am going to ask this though. Why would you put that guy in the locker?"I thought back at the event earlier and I shrugged. "Why not?""Miss Collins, you can't just put people inside lockers for no reason.""Well, that guy sure did that to the nerd. Why can't I?"
My first instinct is to run away with Xander. My second instinct is to run towards Vanessa and tackle her. That girl deserves whatever body pain I am planning on inflicting on her. I guess it was not enough for her to ruin me. Now, she wants to drag Xander along too. She obviously needed some much needed drama to put her on the spot again. To what extent is she willing to ruin people’s lives just so she can stay in the spotlight? I have never been so angry at anyone before, but I will deal with my emotions later. My priority right now is Xander. Looking at Xander, I was surprised to see him standing so calmly in front of me. Well, he wasn’t entirely calm. He was shaking, but it wasn’t from fear or anxiety. He looks like he is about to burst out laughing. What is he so excited about? “Xander?” I grab his hand. “Xander, come on. Let’s get you out of here. I will call my dad to pick us up.” Xander’s gaze softens when he turns to me. “Thanks, Hailey.” He kisses my forehead, which
The big day has arrived, and even though I have complete faith in my mother's design abilities, I can not help but feel nervous. I have seen the design before, but when I look in the mirror, I cannot help but admire the dress. It’s a light lavender dress with a sweetheart neckline and a thin laced strap to keep it in place—my mom knows I was never gifted in the frontal area. The skirt is a flare shape, with the hemline ending perfectly a few centimeters from the floor. Most of the beadwork is at the neckline and waist since the material used for the skirt is chromatic. It shines perfectly on its own. My mother didn’t want me to look too mature so my hair is left in a side loose braid. “Perfect!” My mother enters the dressing room just as I finish clasping dangling earrings in my ears. I shy away from the mirror at how my mother is continuously gushing at me and my outfit. “Darling, you look wonderful! Of course, I expect no less from my daughter, who carries my perfect genes!” “N
Preparation for the dance has been going smoothly. Our efforts have come to fruition when everything is finally coming together. I hate every second of the work, but getting to see the final outcome feels somehow rewarding. Speaking of which, while we were still preparing the venue, the others figured out that Xander and I were already dating. I’m pretty sure that was the case when we told them, because their reaction was a robotic surprise, like they hadn’t tried practicing it. “Wow. We totally had no idea.” “Really? We hadn’t noticed.” “Congratulations!” Only Leo had a really genuine reaction from the group, even lightly clapping his hands in celebration. This world needs a lot more Leo—so pure and innocent. The rest of us can just die (I'm kidding!). “See? I told you they’d know.” Xander crosses his arms and pointedly looks toward Sandy. “I bet you already have proofs and created a group chat where only you, Sheen, and Leo are in it to show the photos.” Leo and Sheen exch
Taking a photoshoot with The Pandorgriffs always feels like bliss for me, despite the number of times that we’ve done this before. It seems that I will always be their fan, no matter what. Actually, that’s not the only thing that makes me excited to work with them. It’s also the fact that I get to work with Xander too. It’s only been a day since we started dating, but it seems like I can’t help but feel light and happy whenever we see each other. He keeps meeting my gaze during our turn and giving me secret grins and a wink. If Xander could be an animal, he would definitely be a fox. Sandy, the ever so reigning queen of gossip, managed to catch that Xander and I have been looking at each other all throughout work. This hellhound of a girl literally has been giving us both a look of suspicion and, I swear, I think her nostrils are flaring like she caught the scent of a hot topic. Xander and I haven’t told the others about our relationship yet. We’re not trying to hide it from them
As the school’s cool girl, I have numerous people confessing to me on a daily basis, but having someone that I know confess to me, especially one that I like, is just embarrassing—in a good way. You’d thought that I would jump in glee and throw sparkles and rainbows at everyone’s face out of joy, but nope. Before I could even give my answer, Leo and the others came back. The next day, I was so tired. I could not even sleep just thinking about it. We’re supposed to head to the mall today to buy the materials needed to make the design. Of course, Xander is going to be there. Unexpectedly, I arrived at the meeting place earlier than planned. I’ve got nothing better to do because if I continue to stay at home, I might just keep staring at my reflection and recalling the confession. It was a confession, right? I mean, I am almost certain that it was. Before we parted ways, Xander assured me that he doesn’t need an answer right away and is willing to wait. Actually, I really wanted t
I rarely get into serious situations that I give a damn about. Right now, I badly wish that I was in one of those situations so I could just laugh and ignore it. I guess I have not gotten my luck as Hailey May Collins working yet because the situation in question involves Xander and the others. “You guys are going to disband?” My tongue felt heavy when I said it. I knew what I heard, but I still could not believe it. “Can you tell me why?” “It’s not exactly a secret, but I assure you that it was a mutual agreement on everyone’s part.” Xander looks uncomfortable, making me wish that I hadn’t asked the question in the first place. “I’m sorry. You don’t have to answer my question if you are feeling uncomfortable.” I hastily added and avoided his gaze. As much as I am dying to know their reasons, I should still respect their privacy. Xander’s chortle comes as a surprise to me. I stare at him, wondering what it is that he finds so amusing. Currently, I feel a little conflicted about
The very next day, I was humming as I headed to the student council room after taking my special exams—I’m not going to talk about how well or poorly I did. It doesn’t matter. I feel like I have accumulated enough points to graduate anyway.I met Sandy at the door, and I gave her the brightest mischievous grin that I could muster. Sandy just smiled at me in return before heading inside the council room. I still have the blackmail photo of her and Sheen on their secret date that I am dying to show her. Because my exams are finally out of the way, I have no choice but to participate in my student council duties. I don’t mind doing it these days, and my old self would laugh at me if I admitted it out loud, but hey, I am here to have fun with Sandy. It’s payback for all the teasing that she put me through. “Hey, Sandy.” I smile, heading over to her and plastering on a smile. Sandy gives me a perplexed look. She’s probably wondering why I wasn’t hostile with her today. “Good day to you,
“Do you think that they are on a secret date?” “I—” “I think so too. It’s very suspicious.” “Hailey—” “Do you want to secretly take photos of them for future blackmail purposes? I know I would.” I cheerfully as I continue to snap pictures of Sheen and Sandy buying tickets for a random romance movie. “You’re already taking photos of them. What’s even the point of you asking me about it?” I can feel Xander’s tiredness as a sigh escapes him. I believe that his exhaustion comes from him constantly trying to tell me against stalking them, but all his words simply go from one ear to the other. “Let’s go!” I drag him along after the couple finished buying tickets. “Where to?” “To buy some tickets. We’re watching the movie.” “Why?” “...That’s because the movie looks interesting.” Xander gives me a long stare. “You’re still going to spy on them in the cinema, are you?” “...No…?” The words left my lips in a drag, making it sound suspicious. “I mean, I am really interested in watchin
I wasn’t aware that my mother called Xander and promised to sponsor our attire for the dance. Knowing how I would have reacted, I guess I can understand why my mother kept it a secret in the first place. Still, it would have been better if she had at least given me a hint. Xander and I are sitting not too far from each other. None of us are even speaking. I am sitting casually and bouncing my legs nervously while thinking of ways to strike up a conversation. From how Xander is busy scrolling through his phone, I don’t even know if he would like to talk to me. It’s always been difficult to read Xander’s mood, so I decided to risk it and converse with him. “The weather is nice.” I start. “It’s raining heavily outside, Hailey.” He responded without looking up from his phone. Well, so much for an icebreaker. I should try another approach. “I didn’t know that you were coming.” “I thought your mother told you that I would be coming for the fitting.” This time, Xander did look up. I c
