Anna's POV
Two months. That was all it took for Alpha Jasper to claim my heart.
I sighed as I plucked out a tiny white rose and brought it to my nose, sniffing it in appreciation. I was surrounded with acres and acres of white and red roses. In the two months I had spent here, I'd come to fall in love with the pack house's gardens—
And I'd come to grow used to the man, Alpha Jasper as well.
Alpha Jasper made me feel nothing if not protected. He was unpredictable, as I'd seen on several occasions, and it was saddening seeing him kill people on my account. Anytime I disobeyed his orders, one person had to die.
I had given up hope of ever trying to escape, several weeks back, and I had settled quite nicely into my role as his breeder. I wasn't happy, and neither was I sad. I'd merely resigned to my fate.
I wasn't a hundred percent sure, but I could as well be carrying his heir already.
Rubbing my belly absentmindedly, my mind wandered to my parents, and most especially my mother. I could not care less about my stepfather—the man could rot in the seven hells for all I cared, but I was worried about my mother.
She wasn't the strongest of werewolves, and without me there to protect her, I wondered how my stepfather would be treating her now. I knew him very well, and I knew his penchant for hitting things and people that were smaller than him.
Deep within me, I ached for her safety and protection.
"Luna Anna, we should head back inside. It's getting late." My handmaiden called out.
I snapped back to reality and threw the white rose to the ground, crumpling it beneath my feet. "Yes, you're right, Lena. Come on."
But as I turned, I knew something was wrong immediately. The sharp pain that accosted my forehead wasn't normal, and neither was the sense of fatigue that came with it.
"Luna Anna?" Lena called out. "Are you alright?"
"Y...Yes, I think so. It's nothing, I can manage." I mumbled in response. Ignoring her outstretched hand, I took another step forward.
And this time, I didn't make it.
The world around me spun like a web as the headache grew more insistent. My balance wavered, and somehow I found myself on the cold, hard ground.
"Luna! Luna Anna!" I heard Lena call out to me, but her voice was slowly becoming muffled. I could hear a thundering of footsteps, and through my rapidly blurring vision, I saw that several guards were rushing towards us.
Panic struck my heart as I realised that I would slip into unconsciousness any time soon.
No....
What was happening to me?
I stretched out my hands, frantically searching for something or someone to hold on to, but it was too late. The darkness was already seeping into my vision now, and I could not stop it.
I let the darkness claim me.
*********
"What do you think happened?"
"She was probably fatigued from spending so long out in the sun...."
"I wonder what Alpha Jasper would say if he hears of this...."
I grimaced as the different voices seeped into my ears and bounced around like billiards in my head. My head still ached, though not as terribly as before, and the surface beneath me was softer than the packed earth in the garden where I'd collapsed.
A tired sigh escaped my lips. "What....where am I?"
"Shhh...." Came a new, more soothing voice. Then in a more brusque tone, it continued. "Move back, all of you. Let me take a look at the Luna."
I felt the surface under me recline a little, and gentle but experienced hands felt around my face, my neck, my temple.
"Open your eyes, Luna." The voice ordered.
I didn't want to open them. I wanted to continue floating in the ignorant bliss that was unconsciousness—anything to escape this headache, but I knew I had to.
Slowly, I opened my eyes, and the first thing I noticed was that the room I was in was dark. The windows had been drawn, even though it was day, and there were no candles lighting up the place. Shadows filled the room.
A figure made of darker shadows danced around before my eyes. I groaned and tried to sit up, but firm hands forced me down again.
"You're sweating a lot." The voice noted. "That's a good thing."
"What....?" I tried to sit up again, and I was forced back down with even stronger hands.
"Lie down. Rest. You'll need it." The voice replied. Turning to another person in the room, the voice ordered. "Open the curtains."
In a matter of seconds, the curtains were pulled back, and light rushed into the room through the windows. I squinted at the man who sat before me; he was elderly, with gray hair, gnarled hands and a kind face.
The pack's physician.
"You'll need all the rest you can get." He continued, still smiling at me. "For you, and of course, the heir growing inside of you."
My eyes widened immediately. "Heir?"
"Yes, Luna. You're pregnant!"
"The Moon Goddess be praised!" Echoed the physician's assistants who stood in one corner of the room.
The feeling that flooded into my heart knew no bounds. Clutching my stomach, I glanced down at what I hoped was an already developing bump. I couldn't tell whether I was happy at the news, oe devastated.
I needed to break this news to Alpha Jasper.
Then perhaps....finally, he would let me go back home.
Throwing my bedcovers aside, I sprang to my feet and made straight for the door, ignoring my headache.
The physician's voice made me stop for a moment. "Luna Anna!" He called out. "Hold on."
I paused and turned to him. "For what?"
"I should break the news on your behalf," he explained. "You need all the rest you can get."
A feeling of apprehension surged through me as I stared into the kind physician's face. But I knew what might happen to him if Alpha Jasper managed to discredit him.
I didn't want anybody else dying on my account.
"Do not worry." I replied. "I will deliver the news myself."
"But you mustn't bounce around that way. You need your rest!"
"My rest can wait." I retorted. "For now, the Alpha needs to hear this piece of good news!"
Anna's POVMy steps echoed through the hallways as I walked on. Each step I took felt as though I was moving towards an ultimatum, a deadline. I finally arrived at the door of the study, panting hard. I could feel my wolf rearing its head in apprehension, matching mine. I raised a hand to knock on the door—And that was when I heard Alpha Jasper's voice."Why are you here?" He asked. His voice was sharp, curt, leaving no room for questions."I heard you were taking another woman as your Luna." Came a female voice that made me stop in my tracks. As I pressed my ear against the door, straining to hear every word of the conversation inside Alpha Jasper's study, a flood of emotions washed over me. My heart pounded with a mix of curiosity and dread, my breath caught in my throat."And how is that your problem?"I paused. Who was he speaking with?"It is my problem! Why her, Alpha Jasper?" The female's voice questioned, dripping with resentment and jealousy. "Why did you choose her over me
Anna's POV My hands flew over my mouth, as I realized where I was. I was at the edge of a cliff, A slight movement could make me drop so hard. Why was everything tough for me? I tried not to let the tears slip, I have wailed so much for the day. I will not shed another tear again. I tried to snatch the small timber that stood beside me but it cracked immediately I touched it making my stance waver. I was coerced to look down the cliff, My mouth hung open in awe as I stared at the civilization below it. Down the cliff lay the place I was steering to. My sanctuary! I know I pledged not to cry but the tears fell. They were happy tears and I will be damned not to let them fall. I sniffed hard and used the hem of my dress to wipe my eyes. I was going down the cliff and I wouldn't want my tears to eliminate my chance of having a clear eyesight. I could end up dead if everything went south. I could feel my wolf wag its tail at the rear of my mind. I had predicted that I would ar
Anna’s POV “Save my baby” I uttered through tears as I squeezed my eyes shut. my heart pounding in my chest, fear gripped me like icy tendrils. The darkness seemed to press in around me, suffocating and oppressive, and with each step, my terror only grew. Clutching my stomach protectively, I didn’t want anything to happen to my child, even though I hated alpha Jasper with everything in me, that wasn’t enough to wish my child death. My child was my own person and I was going to protect him at all cost, knowing I could lose my pregnancy from a little hardship I couldn’t help but feel a surge of panic wash over me and the thought of anything happening to my unborn child filled me with a primal fear unlike anything I had ever experienced. I was groaning in pain from the hit while I made sure my eyes were on every movement of the wolf. Suddenly, a low growl shattered the silence, freezing me in my tracks. My breath caught in my throat as I spun around, my eyes widening in terror as
Anna’s POV “Anna! Anna! Can you hear me.” I heard the familiar voice of my friend and my eyes fluttered open in a dark room, the pain throbbing in every fiber of my being. Maya's worried voice pierced through the haze of my thoughts, her urgency drawing me back to the harsh reality of my injuries. Maya is my childhood friend, I have known her all my life, she was the one with me after I lost my father and even though we have been distant if anything happened to me, I know she was going to blame herself, so I had no other person to run to except her. She had been the only one that clouded my thoughts as I tried to escape from the grasp of Alpha Jasper. "Anna, are you okay?" Maya's voice trembled with concern as she knelt beside me, her hands gentle yet urgent as she assessed the extent of my wounds. I tried to speak, but my throat felt dry and constricted, the words trapped within me as I struggled to find my voice. Maya's eyes searched mine, a silent plea for answers echoing in
Alpha Jasper’s POV The discussion with Serena still lingered in my mind, a sense of restlessness tugged at my muscles. I needed to clear my mind, to escape the weight of responsibility that seemed to bear down on me with each passing moment. I decided to enjoy a cool breeze, I sighed as I stepped out into the night the cool evening air was welcoming. The familiar scent of the pack surrounded me, comforting in its familiarity. I allowed myself a moment to simply breathe, to take in the sights and sounds of the territory that I called home. The moon hung high in the night sky, casting its gentle glow over the land. The soft rustle of leaves in the breeze, the distant howl of a lone wolf, it was moments like these that I could feel peace inside. But even the beauty of the night could not dispel the gnawing emptiness that lingered within me. It was a feeling that had haunted me for far too long, a void that no amount of power or prestige could fill, even with that, I can’t appear w
Alpha Jasper's POV My body froze when I heard what my beta said. I couldn't move, and it felt like my brain was taking time to process everything; I found it unbelievable, and I suddenly laughed. The laughter rippled from me out of shock and anger. Anna escaped?! It felt so unbelievable to my ears, and I needed to hear him say once again, this better be a joke, or the pack house will be unbearable to anyone; my gaze fell on my beta again, who quickly lowered his gaze, understanding that laughter was definitely out of anger. "What did you just say? I want you to repeat what you have said" I growled, and he moved closer to me. "Like I have said, alpha, it seems Lady Anna escaped from the pack. No one saw her, and I have searched around the pack myself, and I couldn't see her", he replied, and I fisted my palms, my nails almost digging into my skin. I felt anger surging through my whole body, and I wondered how Anna escaped from the pack when I had people watching her; I know th
Anna’s POV The sharp knock on the door reverberated through the small house, sending a jolt of fear coursing through me. My heart hammered against my ribs, each beat echoing the rhythm of my escalating anxiety. Could it be him? Could Alpha Jasper have finally found me? My body shivered, and I was unable to move; it felt like the world was crumbling before me; I noticed Maya moving forward to open the door, and I quickly moved towards her; grabbing her hand, she tilted her head to look at me, and she furrowed her brows. “What? We have to see who is at the door” she muttered, gently moving my hand from her arm. "Maya, please," I pleaded, my voice quivering with dread. "Don't open the door. What if it's him? What if Alpha Jasper had sent people to trail me and bring me back to his pack? I am scared, Maya; I don’t want to go back to him anymore,” I cried. “You don’t have to be so frightened, Anna. I have to check who is knocking at the door, and I can’t just sit back here and all
Anna’s POV “Anna! Anna!” I was lost in the depths of sleep, oblivious to the world around me; I needed to rest after everything I had been through, the traumatic events that had happened in the last few days, and now my body needed to relax. By doing that, I can gain a lot of energy back. I was still in my deep sleep when a persistent voice broke through the haze of dreams. Maya's urgent tone jolted me awake, my heart racing with sudden fear. I opened my eyes and stared at Maya, who looked like she was scared of something bad happening to me; she let out a deep breath. “Thank goodness I was so scared”, she uttered, and I arched my brows at her; I was still so lost in a gaze that I was unable to speak a word; she quickly rushed to stand beside me, her eyes darting around my whole being. "Anna, are you still asleep? Are you okay?" Maya's words echoed in my ears, laced with worry and concern. I blinked, disoriented, trying to make sense of Maya's frantic questioning. "Maya? What
