Anna's POV
The forest was dark and scary.
I could hear the wolves behind us, their howls tearing through the night air.
I gathered my dress up in the air as I turned to my stepfather impatiently. "Father, we need to hurry!"
"Don't worry, girl. Keep moving, we'll get there soon." My father replied. Even though his voice was friendly enough, his reply was clipped and short, leaving no room for further questions.
Something in his voice made me halt in my steps. "Father?" I asked quietly. "Is anything the matter?"
"Of course not, Anna." My father let out a sigh, before walking away, not waiting for me. "We still have quite a way to go, Anna. Be hasty, please."
Standing in that spot, with the lantern swinging in my arms, I stared at my step father's retreating back. My skin crawled with the notion that something was amiss. Something was up, but I had no idea what it was.
When my father noticed that I wasn't following him, he stopped and turned to me. "Hurry up, please Anna! We do not have all night!"
A slow and chilling realisation fell upon me as I stared at my step father's familiar face. I knew it now, knew why he was so slow to answer all my questions. I knew why he had stopped short when I had mentioned my mother.
We were never going back home.
"Where are you taking me, father?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper in the silence of the forest. "Tell me now."
My father began to advance towards me, and I stumbled backwards. "Come on now, Anna." He implored. "Don't be a difficult child."
Without hesitation, I turned and made to run into the woods, my heart thundering against my ribcage. I hadn't moved far when I heard a grunt behind me, and a sharp pain blossomed at the back of my head.
Letting out a huge cry, I collapsed to the ground and turned, but my vision had been made blurry. I couldn't see much, only the silhouette of a person as he advanced on me, raising a large stick for a second strike.
"No!" I screamed, but it was too late. The stick came down on my head again, and this time I drifted off into unconsciousness.
********
The pain was unbearable the next time I opened my eyes.
My vision was still swimming, and there was a dull, throbbing pain in my head to accompany it. I squirmed uncomfortably, and realised that I had been tied up.
But that was the least of my pain....for now. I needed water.
Peeling my parched lips open, I whispered hoarsely. "Water....I need water!"
I waited, but nobody answered me. Wriggling against the chair I was tied to, I tried again. "Water, please!"
Again, no response.
At this point, the fear in my heart was building to a fever pitch, and my breaths started to come in panicked gasps.
"Mother!" I screamed. "Mother! Help!"
Then suddenly, I heard someone shift beside me. And a cold, hard voice spoke up.
"You're awake."
I froze in fear, turning my head to find the source of the voice. However, all around me, pitch-blackness pressed against me like a suffocating blanket.
The man chuckled, the sound instilling even more fear in my heart. Then I heard a snap of fingers, and a bright light came on.
Instinctively, I flinched, my eyes watering as they came in contact with the light. I shrank away from it like a terrified animal from the glare of a hunter's torch.
I heard footsteps approach where I was tied to, and slowly, I lifted my head to stare into the eyes of my captive.
And the sight of him forced a horrified gasp from my lips.
"Alpha Jasper!" I whispered.
The man gave me a cold smile, revealing pearly white, almost perfect teeth. It was Alpha Jasper alright. I would never be able to mistake that legendary, handsome face, or his obsidian-black hair, or his icy, dead blue eyes, or that scar that ran diagonally from his left eyebrow down to his right ear. He stood before me, hands buried deep in his pockets, towering above me like a scary giant.
How could I not recognize him? This was one of the most dangerous alpha in all the packs around!
Finally, when it felt as though the sight of him would choke me to death, I finally blurted. "Where is my stepfather? What did you do to him? You killed him, didn't you?"
His thick dark eyebrows shot up, an amused look on his face. "Oh, your stepfather is long gone, dear Anna."
"Please....I whispered, as tears gathered in my eyes. "Please, let me go. Free me, Alpha Jasper. Please."
But my pleas only made him grin even wider, as though he was enjoying my suffering. "I cannot free you, Anna. You are mine now. Mine!"
"Yours?" I whispered in confusion.
Ignoring me, he stepped even closer, mere inches from me. My breath hitched in my chest as he reached out and touched my face. Shivers coursed through my body at that single point of contact.
Slowly, his fingers moved round to the back of my head and began to feel through my hair for Goddess knew what.
Then he touched a spot that felt tender and sore, and I flinched in pain.
Alpha Jasper froze.
"Who hit her on her head?" He asked the entire room. A few guards in one corner of the room shuffled their feets and exchanged confused looks. Silence fell, heavy and dangerous, on everyone gathered.
"I am not talking to stone men, am I?" Alpha Jasper growled.
Still, the silence persisted. Then, slowly, he withdrew his hand from the back of my head and signalled to one of the guards to move forward.
The guard hesitated, fear etched into every corner of his face, before hobbling over to the Alpha. I watched in apprehension as Alpha Jasper slowly pulled out a knife from his belt.
And before I could react, the knife moved upwards and sank into the guard's chest.
"Alpha Jasper...." The guard whispered, before falling to the ground.
A startled gasp escaped my lips. I stared, wide-eyed with horror as he wiped the bloody knife against a rag. There was a look of disinterest on his face, as though he didn't just end the life of a man.
Alpha Jasper turned to an obscure corner of the room and nodded once. Two maids walked forward, heads bowed in reverence as they curtseyed before the Alpha.
"Wash, dress and get her ready." He ordered the maids. "I would love to have dinner with my Luna."
Anna's POV"Leave me alone! Let me go!" I screamed. The maids were relentless, gripping onto my arms with vice-like fingers. They pulled me down a hallway and towards an ornately carved door. One of them pushed the door open.As the maids dragged me into the room, my heart pounded with a mixture of fear and rage. We stepped into what I recognized as a dining room, with a long table laden with several closed platters. I cast a disdainful glance at the man seated at the far end of the table, hi⁹s face cast into eerie shadows from the lit candles, his head bent over his plate of food as he speared a piece of meat with his fork.He lifted his head as I was pulled into the room. His icy blue eyes met mine, and I could feel his gaze piercing through me, assessing me with an unsettling intensity. His eyes immediately darkened with displeasure as he gave me a quick once-over."Why are you still dressed in those filthy rags?" Alpha Jasper's voice cut through the tense silence, his tone drippi
Anna's POVThe landscape beyond my window looked vast. Vast and inviting.I leaned beside the window of my room, staring out at the lush green fields that stretched into the horizon. Forests didn't surround this place the way they surrounded my home. I couldn't escape without Alpha Jasper's knowledge—I wouldn't even make it past the open fields before being dragged back.I bet he liked that, the aggravating man. I bet people escaped from his mansion a lot. He definitely enjoyed taking my body that night, almost a week ago now.I sighed, folding my arms as a gust of wind slipped through the window and gave me shivers. It had been two weeks since I'd arrived here. Two weeks since my father had shown up in the Alpha's dining room, and two weeks since I'd learned of his betrayal. At that point, I wondered what my mother would do to him if she learned that he sold me off to the Alpha like I was a prized bull. I wondered the explanation he even gave her for my sudden and mysterious disappea
Anna's POVTwo months. That was all it took for Alpha Jasper to claim my heart. I sighed as I plucked out a tiny white rose and brought it to my nose, sniffing it in appreciation. I was surrounded with acres and acres of white and red roses. In the two months I had spent here, I'd come to fall in love with the pack house's gardens—And I'd come to grow used to the man, Alpha Jasper as well.Alpha Jasper made me feel nothing if not protected. He was unpredictable, as I'd seen on several occasions, and it was saddening seeing him kill people on my account. Anytime I disobeyed his orders, one person had to die.I had given up hope of ever trying to escape, several weeks back, and I had settled quite nicely into my role as his breeder. I wasn't happy, and neither was I sad. I'd merely resigned to my fate.I wasn't a hundred percent sure, but I could as well be carrying his heir already.Rubbing my belly absentmindedly, my mind wandered to my parents, and most especially my mother. I coul
Anna's POVMy steps echoed through the hallways as I walked on. Each step I took felt as though I was moving towards an ultimatum, a deadline. I finally arrived at the door of the study, panting hard. I could feel my wolf rearing its head in apprehension, matching mine. I raised a hand to knock on the door—And that was when I heard Alpha Jasper's voice."Why are you here?" He asked. His voice was sharp, curt, leaving no room for questions."I heard you were taking another woman as your Luna." Came a female voice that made me stop in my tracks. As I pressed my ear against the door, straining to hear every word of the conversation inside Alpha Jasper's study, a flood of emotions washed over me. My heart pounded with a mix of curiosity and dread, my breath caught in my throat."And how is that your problem?"I paused. Who was he speaking with?"It is my problem! Why her, Alpha Jasper?" The female's voice questioned, dripping with resentment and jealousy. "Why did you choose her over me
Anna's POV My hands flew over my mouth, as I realized where I was. I was at the edge of a cliff, A slight movement could make me drop so hard. Why was everything tough for me? I tried not to let the tears slip, I have wailed so much for the day. I will not shed another tear again. I tried to snatch the small timber that stood beside me but it cracked immediately I touched it making my stance waver. I was coerced to look down the cliff, My mouth hung open in awe as I stared at the civilization below it. Down the cliff lay the place I was steering to. My sanctuary! I know I pledged not to cry but the tears fell. They were happy tears and I will be damned not to let them fall. I sniffed hard and used the hem of my dress to wipe my eyes. I was going down the cliff and I wouldn't want my tears to eliminate my chance of having a clear eyesight. I could end up dead if everything went south. I could feel my wolf wag its tail at the rear of my mind. I had predicted that I would ar
Anna’s POV “Save my baby” I uttered through tears as I squeezed my eyes shut. my heart pounding in my chest, fear gripped me like icy tendrils. The darkness seemed to press in around me, suffocating and oppressive, and with each step, my terror only grew. Clutching my stomach protectively, I didn’t want anything to happen to my child, even though I hated alpha Jasper with everything in me, that wasn’t enough to wish my child death. My child was my own person and I was going to protect him at all cost, knowing I could lose my pregnancy from a little hardship I couldn’t help but feel a surge of panic wash over me and the thought of anything happening to my unborn child filled me with a primal fear unlike anything I had ever experienced. I was groaning in pain from the hit while I made sure my eyes were on every movement of the wolf. Suddenly, a low growl shattered the silence, freezing me in my tracks. My breath caught in my throat as I spun around, my eyes widening in terror as
Anna’s POV “Anna! Anna! Can you hear me.” I heard the familiar voice of my friend and my eyes fluttered open in a dark room, the pain throbbing in every fiber of my being. Maya's worried voice pierced through the haze of my thoughts, her urgency drawing me back to the harsh reality of my injuries. Maya is my childhood friend, I have known her all my life, she was the one with me after I lost my father and even though we have been distant if anything happened to me, I know she was going to blame herself, so I had no other person to run to except her. She had been the only one that clouded my thoughts as I tried to escape from the grasp of Alpha Jasper. "Anna, are you okay?" Maya's voice trembled with concern as she knelt beside me, her hands gentle yet urgent as she assessed the extent of my wounds. I tried to speak, but my throat felt dry and constricted, the words trapped within me as I struggled to find my voice. Maya's eyes searched mine, a silent plea for answers echoing in
Alpha Jasper’s POV The discussion with Serena still lingered in my mind, a sense of restlessness tugged at my muscles. I needed to clear my mind, to escape the weight of responsibility that seemed to bear down on me with each passing moment. I decided to enjoy a cool breeze, I sighed as I stepped out into the night the cool evening air was welcoming. The familiar scent of the pack surrounded me, comforting in its familiarity. I allowed myself a moment to simply breathe, to take in the sights and sounds of the territory that I called home. The moon hung high in the night sky, casting its gentle glow over the land. The soft rustle of leaves in the breeze, the distant howl of a lone wolf, it was moments like these that I could feel peace inside. But even the beauty of the night could not dispel the gnawing emptiness that lingered within me. It was a feeling that had haunted me for far too long, a void that no amount of power or prestige could fill, even with that, I can’t appear w
