She studied his features and could see he was truly sorry. It made no sense to her.

“Xy, why are you sorry?”

“Because, I cost you your job.”

Her head slowly moved back and forth. “You didn’t cost me my job. Danny storming in there and causing a scene was wrong. He had scared everyone long before you arrived. Please don’t be sorry. It isn’t your fault in any way. I’m so grateful that you showed up when you did. It could have ended very differently for me.”

“I wish there was something I could do. I can help you look for a job,” he volunteered.

She smiled and leaned forward, giving him a soft, warm kiss. “You’re too good to be true,” she whispered.

“I’m real and I’m yours.”

She couldn’t stop smiling. He was a dream come true. He was too good. How had the man remained single for so long? The women of the world had no idea what they were missing out on. She had no intention of ever letting them find out.

“I’m glad we met. I know I wasn’t the friendliest person in the world those first

Waking up with Lana would never get old. Her back was to him as he curled around her, protecting her as she slept. She’d come home with him last night after a night out together. He loved their sleepovers and only wished they could make it a more regular thing, as in she moved in with him. He knew she loved her place, but his afforded them a lot more room, privacy and most importantly, security. He always felt like they were exposed at her place. Anyone could walk up to her front door and knock. He wanted to be able to protect her and the high fence and gate around his place seemed much more conducive to keeping Danny and other bad guys out. She moaned softly. “You’re awake.”He kissed her bare shoulder. “I am.”“You get up so early.”He laughed. “You’re usually the first one up.”“Now that I don’t have a job, there’s no reason to get out of bed before seven.”He kissed her shoulder, moving her hair away from her neck and kissed her there. “I can give you a very good reason to ge

“Are you out there? " Akira asked as he stepped out of his office. “I am, unless you need me for something else?” he said, pausing at her desk. She shook her head. “Nope. I’m about ready to leave myself. I think this day should be noted on the calendar, we are both out of here by five.”He chuckled. “Do you have a hot date tonight?” “No, I don’t. I have a date with my TV. I have some catching up to do on my favorite shows before all the fall premieres start. I’ve neglected my shows.”He threw his head back and laughed. “I don’t think they’ll notice. It’s called having a life and dating.”“Maybe, but I’m fully invested in the lives of my favorite characters,” she quipped. “Got it. Well, have a fun night watching TV,” he said with a grimace. “Oh, I suppose you have a hot date?”He shrugged a shoulder. “I am going to dinner with Lana and she’s always hot, so I suppose you could say I have a hot date.”“You are so sprung. Her heart hurt. She hated sending Xyrus away when all she really wanted to do was get lost in the safety and comfort of his arms. He was solid as a rock and never seemed to get angry with her. She knew she was a pain in the ass. Canceling on him at the last minute was inexcusable. She kept trying to work up the strength to go out with him but couldn’t bring herself to do it. She couldn’t lie to his face and that was exactly what she would have to do if she had to spend any time with him. He deserved an explanation. She couldn’t do it. She grabbed another pair of jeans and shoved them into her suitcase that was already too full, tears streamed down her face as she did so. Life was never easy. “You can’t take it all, Lana Reign,” she mumbled to herself as she tried like hell to do just that. She’d refrained from buying a lot of clothes. With her lifestyle, the goal was to pack as quickly as possible and to fit as much into a single suitcase as possible. With one last longing look a

The first thing he did when he opened his eyes was roll to the side and reach for his phone on the bedside table. Through bleary eyes, he stared at the screen, hoping to see a missed call or a message or two from Lana. It had taken every ounce of self-control not to text her last night. Around eleven, he had sent her a simple goodnight text, hoping for some kind of response. He got nothing in return. He closed his eyes, trying not to let the disappointment get him down. She was still working through some stuff, he told himself. He’d give her space. He got ready for work, wishing like hell they could repeat yesterday’s morning routine. Once he grabbed a breakfast sandwich, he headed out the door. Work would keep him busy and his mind off Lana. “Yeah, right,” he muttered, checking left, then right before pulling into the street. Nothing kept his mind off Lana. “Uh-oh,” Akira mumbled under her breath as he walked by. “I’m fine,” he said, and kept moving into his office. She follo

  • The Runaway Girl and The Billionaire   One wrong choice

She'd made a spur of the moment decision to get off the bus in some small town outside of Baguio City.. She couldn’t bear the thought of traveling another twelve hours on that bus. Maria was a lovely seat companion, but she was going out of her mind. It didn’t matter where she got off. There was no set destination in her mind. Lana had walked down the dark country road, not afraid of being mugged in a quiet little place like the one she’d chosen to spend an undetermined number of days in. Maybe that had been her mistake in the past, she mused. She’d been trying to hide out in large cities, thinking it would be easier to blend in with hundreds of thousands of people. It was time to change things up. She looked around the area and saw a few houses here and there with large parcels of land for each house. It was a quiet, rural area without the hustle and bustle of city life—or taxicabs. The kind man at the gas station where the bus had dropped her off told her of a motel abou

He was going out of his mind with worry. He wanted to believe Lana up and left in the middle of the night of her own free will, but there was a part of him that was terrified Danny had dragged her out, kicking and screaming, and was now holding her hostage somewhere. The possibilities were endless. His phone started ringing and he nearly jumped across the coffee table in his living room lunging for it. He kept expecting her to call and tell him she was okay. It hadn’t happened yet. He looked at the screen and saw it was Akira calling. “What?” he groused. “Don’t you dare talk to me like that. Am I clearing your schedule for the day?” she asked. “Yes.” “Is there anything I can do to help? I can call in a temp or we can just say we both have the stomach flu and operations must cease until Monday,” she offered. He ran a hand through his hair. “No, it’s fine. I need you there holding down the fort. Feel free to cut out early. Clear my schedule for Monday as well. If I don’t find

It was New City and a new hotel for Lana as she tried to find her bearings. She felt like an aimless, wandering arrow with no destination in mind. She knew why she was struggling to pick a place to start over. It was Xy. She didn’t really want to leave and therefore was stalling at really starting over. Lana really wanted to go back to him. By continuing this limbo, there was a small chance that she could. At least that’s what she told herself. In reality, she knew that returning to Xyrus would make his life hell, even if he couldn’t see it. The TV was on outlining the expected weather for the day—rain. She wasn’t sure she could survive in a place that got rain so regularly. Her psyche couldn’t handle it, even if it left everything very green. The area was gorgeous, but she knew it wasn’t right for her. The small town had been okay for a day, but it soon became clear it wasn’t the place for her either. She needed to work and there were few jobs available for a woman with almost zer

Trying to work was pointless for Xy. He had reread the same email at least three times and still couldn’t remember a word of what it said. His brain refused to focus on anything other than Lana Reign. It had been five days. Five days since she’d run away like a thief in the night, without so much as a goodbye call or even a measly note. It was hard not to be angry. She should have trusted him. She should have given him the chance to help. Instead, she’d packed up and left as if he didn’t matter. As if what they had shared the last couple of months hadn’t mattered. It was a hard pill to swallow. A soft knock at the office door was a thankful distraction. He looked up to see Akira standing there. Normally, she would walk right in. She was trying to be considerate and respect his need for space. “What’s up?” he asked, trying his best to sound cheerful. She grimaced. “It’s time to go,” she said, in a voice that revealed her hesitation in telling him the news. He let out a long sigh.

Lana felt his warm body next to her and smiled. His heavy leg was draped across hers as he softly breathed in and out, his long eyelashes resting against his face as he slept. She stared at him for a while, admiring his handsomeness. The jaw stubble was already making an appearance on his face, giving him the rough, sexy look that she adored. He had made it a habit not to shave on the weekends, which she thoroughly appreciated. Living with him had taken a little getting used to, but now she could never imagine her life any other way. When Xyrus had asked her to move in, she had been hesitant at first. She was worried they were rushing into things. It seemed like it was too soon, but then after thinking about it and talking it over with Tina, she realized there was no hard and fast rule about when it was the right time. She felt it and he felt it and that was all that mattered. They’d been living together for a month and every day when she woke up, she got to see him. That was the bes

They were able getting to double date with Wind and Akira. His friends were supposed to be going to some charity event, but Wind had bailed at the last minute, more interested in a night out as a foursome than sitting in some stuffy ballroom wearing a tux. Since they’d had so much fun at the bar the last time they all went out, they had all voted to go back again.Akira and Xyrus returned from their bathroom visit and sat down at the table. Xyrus loved that they were becoming friends. They were very different in many ways, but they were part of his circle. They helped balance him, each of his close-knit group of friends bringing a little something different to the table.“Ahhh!” Lana screamed, throwing her hands into the air when the first few twangs on the guitar filled the bar.“What’s wrong?” Xyrus asked, looking around the crowded room.“I love this song!” she screamed, acting like a teenager at a rock concert, swaying her arms back and forth, her loose hair hanging down her back

Danny was walking straight for her, a murderous look in his eyes. If she was smart, she would run. She didn’t run. Instead, she threw her shoulders back and defiantly stared back at him. She wasn’t going to back down, not when she had made so much progress to shut him down. Xyrus was beside her in a flash, his arm around her shoulders, facing off against Danny right alongside her.Laura and a few of the other attorneys were standing nearby. The tension in the room was palpable. Danny’s anger was practically radiating off of him as they faced off in the hall. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she realized she might get hurt. Danny might get a punch in before Xyrus could stop him. She had accepted the risk and was willing to take a hit if it meant there would be witnesses that could finally back up her story. Danny would be held accountable for his actions—finally.“If you ever call me, call my job, show up at my place or show your face in my presence ever again, I will destroy you,” s

She looked happy. That was a good sign. He waited, not moving as she threw open the glass door and strolled towards him. She was looking at him, that sexy gleam in her eyes. It had gone well. Her palms were sweaty, and her stomach felt like it was filled with a million butterflies as she did her best to control her nerves. She couldn’t let Danny know he had her on edge. Her plan hinged on her being the one in control. It was important to turn the tables on him, let him know she was not afraid and would not run anymore. She glanced behind her, looking out the windows of the conference room to see Xyrus and Laura talking. They were conspiring to separate Danny from his lawyers. She couldn’t present her evidence if there were attorneys in the room. That would ruin the upper hand she wanted to hold onto for as long as possible. Her plan hinged on only her knowing about Danny’s illegal activities. Lana closed her eyes, inhaled and tried to relax. When she moved her hands away from the smooth table, she noticed palm prints left behind. She wiped her hands on the pantsuit she was wearing and prayed Danny showed up soon before she lost her nerve. She heard voices and turned t

He closed the laptop and powered down his office computer before standing up, righting his suit and grabbing his wallet from his desk drawer. It was a good day. The week was off to a great start and he had finally caught up on all the work that had been piling up since the day Lana had disappeared. It had been a little embarrassing to realize how badly he had let things slide as he focused all his time and energy on finding Lana. Now that she was back and determined to stay, he was able to focus on his company. He was already planning on extravagant gifts to be delivered to his management team that had picked up the slack. He had a whole new lease on life and had a little extra spunk as he looked forward to what he hoped was a very promising future with Lana.“I’m headed out,” he said, stopping at Akira’s desk.“Tell Wind I said hi,” she said with a smile.Xyrus chuckled. “I will. • The Runaway Girl and The Billionaire   Girlfriend Day!

It felt good to wake up in her own bed, in her own place. Although it was nice to wake up with Xyrus, she had been longing for her bedroom and all the little things she had left behind. When she had been on the run, she had nothing special with her. She had picked up nothing and taken nothing. That had all changed in Taguig. She had enjoyed little shopping sprees at the secondhand stores picking up cool little things that helped her personalize her home. When she’d left, everything had stayed behind. She opened her eyes and rolled to her side, grabbing her phone off her bedside table and finding a text from Xyrus. He was always so thoughtful, wishing her a good morning and a good night every day when they weren’t together. She had missed him when she was gone; far more than she had even thought she would. Her next order of business was to grovel at Tina’s feet and beg for forgiveness. She’d been completely horrible as a friend and she wanted to make it up to one of the only friends

Somewhere deep inside, he was holding his breath. It wasn’t a literal holding of his breath, but more of his brain waiting to hear what she had to say. He knew what he wanted her to say and was sure after their warm welcome it was the most obvious thing to say, but he didn’t know for sure. She was looking at him, but not talking.“What is it sweetheart?” he asked, gently swiping her mussed hair from her face. She looked hot and sexy and better than any magazine centerfold he had ever seen. Her cheeks were flushed, her lips red and swollen from the intense kissing and her hair looked as if she had been standing inside a tornado. She took sexy seductress to an entirely new level.“I’m sorry I left without saying a word. I should have told you,” she started, and he felt his heart sink. She knew he would never hurt her and she wanted him to know how much she cared for him. Leaving him had been a horrible thing to do. Making it up to him was her new mission. She wanted to show him how much she wanted him in her life.“My turn,” she said, her voice thick with desire.“Let’s go in my room,” he said, kissing the side of her neck. She shook her head. “Not yet.”In a flash, she dropped to her knees on the cold marble floor, yanking his sweats down his body.
