Even though I saw her enter and approach me, I snapped my head to the side and hissed at her as I felt her hand on my arm. I then snap my head in my mother's direction as she takes a step toward the bed and scolds,

“Julian. Manners.”

I feel my eyes burn as Conner takes a little more control. However, this doesn’t faze my mother as Evelyn steps forward and hisses.

“Conner…”

Conner backs off a little at our mother's command. Teresa then whispers,

“I’m not going to hurt her, Conner, but I do need to check her over. Can you pick her up and lay her on the bed?”

Conner backs off a little more at her soft healer's tone. Not really thinking, I get to my feet with Skylar in my arms and walk over to the bed. I lie her down, and as Teresa approaches, I hiss at her again. Teresa stops and looks over her shoulder. I lift my eyes up over her head and once again see my mother, only this time her eyes are shining bright red as she says,
