Chapter 2: Pinky Promise

We've parted from Halea's Dad and Mom early to have some time to catch-up. It's been a while since we last saw each other. There are so many stories left unsaid if there would be one thing that I wanted to share with Halea it's my real identity and the things that are happening in my life. Having at least that one person to share your life with makes all the difference. It means living not only for yourself, but Halea was also that one constant person in my life. But this revelation is just too much for her, it is too much for me to know that this is the kind of life I need to live, the one I need to continue. That my parents were taken away from me just because of their status, of their wealth and the fact that we belong to this secret circle which my family needs to lead. 

We retreated to Halea's room after dinner, it was like last time we shared her bed and with us in the room was Luna and Aspin. She started to tell me about her life here at Vale and her newfound friends and love, Rahul.

"I need to meet this Rahul and see for myself," I said, "He needs to be good for you," and then we giggled. If there's one thing I envy about her life, it's how normal it is that she has the time to make friends and fall in love.

"How about you? Is there anyone special in your life right now?" Halea asked

"I do not have time for it for now. You have known how I am running here and there trying to escape my uncle," I said. She knows this side of my family, She was one of those people that I trusted about this, that's how I treasure our friendship.

"But how would they know you, since it's been long since you last saw them?" She asked

"They have their ways, but hopefully after our birthday things will change," I said. 

"I hope so, I hope they won't bother you anymore," she said "Or won't recognize you and just forget about you so that you can have a peaceful life. I would wish that for you that you find your peace," 

By that time my scent will change as soon as my wolf awakes. And if I am lucky to find my relatives, I would be able to regain my place and be able to take my pack back.   

I thanked her and wished her to be happy as well and asked her about Vale.

"It was good, I made a few friends apart from Rahul of course,"

"I hope you haven't replaced me as your besties," I said 

"Of course not, we're more than besties you know,"

"Yeah," I said, it reminded me of how we shared everything when we were young. And now my transformation is at bay. I wanted to share it with her but I just don't know-how.

"What is it?" She asked

So I asked her that question in my mind "What if one day I suddenly changed? Just a hypothetical question,"

"I don't think you need to ask that, nothing will change between us," she answered then she continued "what about me, if ever I turned out to be a different person, " and then she laughed and continued "I have been having these dreams," she started telling her the story of the Halea and the dragon and I carefully listened.

She is dreaming to be this Goddess and a warrior fighting a mighty dragon, in her dream she launches her sword killing the beast. She stopped and then tells me about her crying after killing the dragon and her travel with the flaming dog and her affirmation with 

"What do you think? If ever I was this Moon goddess they claim me to be?" then she laughed, "I sound crazy didn't I?" she said. 

If only she knew what I am she wouldn't ask me these questions so I told her, "well, anything is possible in this world. As you said this land has a rich history of magical, mystical past. If ever you're the Moon Goddess, please take care of me. I will be one of your loyal subjects," I said. After all, it was the moon goddess whom we prayed for at least that's what I know.

If she's the Moon Goddess, I would be lucky, she will grant my desire for peace and perhaps a good mate. I asked her once again, "Have you heard about werewolves, witches and other creatures? What do you think about them?"

She smiled remembering something she then told me about her classmate how she imagined him and his friends, his name is Caleb. She imagined him to be a wolf-like person.

So I asked her "What if you see one in real life? what would you do"

"I don't know how to react honestly, I would be happy to see one as long as it won't hurt me. I saw a real wolf just a few days ago. Initially, I was afraid but it did not mean any harm. I would want to understand them," she said and asked," Why do you ask these questions?"

"I was just curious because of your stories. But if ever you found out that you're not an ordinary human, I'll be here for you. I'll be the first to believe you can count me to be always at your side," I told her. At least I'll be happy not to be alone. I am already happy with what she is, so just imagines if she's something else, we can pretty much do everything together.

"Let's promise it then, we will trust each other no matter what happens," she said and I agreed, She took a pin and poke her right thumb with it and the blood came out. I did the same, and we pinky promised to envelop our thumb together making our small blood oath to each other.

Then I remember something from the past, it's more like a dream of my youth, "I felt like I dreamt of this before," I said 

"I always thought of a bright light coming out of my flesh," I said and laughs, "that's why I always say I am the bearer of light,"

"I remember that you used to tell that," she  said recalling it

"I used to have a dream of poking myself with a pin and bright light coming out of my finger instead of blood," I said, it felt like it was yesterday when I used to dream of it.

She then spoke "When I came to Vale, I also had that dream,"

I won't be surprised for her to say that she dreamt of flying and shooting a star, "Well, you were dreaming to be the moon goddess and this warrior killing a dragon. I think now anything is possible in dreams," I said giggling.

"Let's go to sleep. we need to wake up early tomorrow to celebrate our birthday," she said.

"Yeah," just after that she yawned and I followed. So we went to sleep, next to each other just like when we were young. 

"Good night, Hailey," I said

"Night, Ali!" and then she moved and closed her eyes.

My mind still wondered though my eyes were close. I still cannot take away the fear inside me. There's so much that I need to do, but first thing is to undergo the awakening of my wolf and then I will start looking for my relatives. It shouldn't be difficult to find them since we are the last Lycan of our kind, here they are more known as Thalon and werewolves are called Lobo. I still remember when my parents told me about our kind and the pack, my great-great-grandfather and their legacy. It was majestic how they managed to establish their rule in the foreign land far from his brother. He has united the northern werewolves and our kind and they have agreed to be under his rule. His authority, power and kindness have been feared and known by other creatures. His land and his pack slowly grew and we've become one of the biggest packs in the north. My father was proud of it being from the same lineage that walked on foot rather than in paws.

Looking back at it, it was unfortunate that the one person my father trusted would betray him all for this. But if you look into it, who wouldn't want his place. My father had everything, wealth, leadership, the trust of the pack, family and prestige. Now I need to rebuild everything. I will take back what was taken from me, I will regain strength and the followers I needed. I also needed evidence that would prove my uncles' betrayal. My word is not enough to take him down. I need to challenge him and in order to do that, I need my wolf and regain some followers. Juno should be able to get some of my father's loyal followers but I need to gain their trust.
