was back to my room in a daze. I didn't know what had just gotten into me or Alex. She had always been treating me worse than any other slaves in this house, but all of a sudden, she seemed like a different person. This was too much for my current state of mind. I got a splitting headache overanalyzing everything.

The next day, Alex wanted me downstairs first thing in the morning. I had to get dressed, but all I really needed was to be left alone in my room. Alex also insisted I move to her chamber. It took me a long time to protest the idea.

Finally convinced that I wouldn't run away, she let me have my way. Even if I could escape, where would I go now? I had no one as my refuge anymore, and I still couldn't stop thinking of Anastasia. Where was she at this moment?

We walked through the archway together. I kept glancing around the area. On the other side, I found the most beautiful garden anyone could ever imagine. Every corner of the earth was carpeted with green grass and clusters of white rose bushes. My nose constantly caught the fulfilling smell of sweet fragrance. Magnolias and forsythias bloomed like a sunny harbinger of spring. There were pink and purples flowers hanging from the tree branches. In this strange new world, everything looked freshly alien and beautiful."This place is a delight," I sighed in happiness."I know," Alex said. "I built it.""You did?"She just smiled.Everything seemed alive in this place. Dry

It was just some distant finished events.I felt so free and so alive, like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly.Avery kept staring at me with her jaw hanging."When are you going to close your mouth, Avery?" I said to her. She snapped back to herself again and blinked her eyes."Alex, there's something else I want

AveryIt was already dark when we walked back to the mansion. Alex put her arm around my shoulders all the way. The grass of the garden was damp and slippery from the night dew. I would have fallen on my face if she hadn't held me.Alex could see far better than me in the dark. Her extraordinary night vision made her eyes glow slightly. And instead of looking scary, I found that very fascinating."What?" Alex said when she caught me peering at her for the fourth time."Nothing," I replied."We'll be there sooner if you just concentrate on walking," she said and shook her head at me.

  • The Romanov Sisters   Chapter 21

Dinner in a house full of royal vampires was no different than any normal family's dinner, except the food consisted of red juicy meat and blood. The feast itself was enough to feed an entire village. I had never seen so much food like this ever since the war ended. My seat was next to Alex's. She was sipping her red wine at the head of the table. At last, Anastasia came down and took a seat opposite me. I was relieved that a whole roasted pig with an apple stuck in its mouth provided me enough coverage. I didn't want to face her.We heard the sound of high-heels echoed sharply from the hall. Nikol floated into view, but I kept my eyes glued to my plate as she walked to us. Nikol was wearing a long flowing white dress with a neck so low, she reminded me of a character

AnastasiaIwalked into my room and I felt like I wanted to tear down everything in sight. Alex just couldn't do that again. Not to Avery. I was always the one to clean up the mess she left behind. Nikol was a good example of it. Now Avery was going to be her next victim. How could she be so heartless and ignorant?Nikol appeared. She stood by the door with her arms crossed."You do care about that human girl, don't you?" she said. I didn't want to answer her. I didn't want to talk to anyone. All I could think of was Avery. I had come back worried sick about her, wondering how Alex had been treating her in my absence. But things

AveryIn the time of a vampire apocalypse, I never thought I could survive as long as I did now. It was a hell on earth, but I had found a new kind of hell. It burned you from the inside out. It would have been better if I wasn't bought into the Romanov House.Everything would be over quickly and less painful.I felt like my life only existed in a glass box again. All things happened around me, but I had no control over any of it. As in the case of today, I opened my door to find Anastasia standing before me. My heart just stopped. I guess I was having a mini heart attack."Shhh..." she hushed, putting an index finger to her lips. She

AnastasiaIreached Alex's office and waved the guards away. They bowed and left the hall. I didn't even bother to knock before I got in. Alex was sitting on her wide antique desk in front of a large window. Victor was standing beside her chair while she was reading some files. He bowed when he saw me, but Alex didn't even look up."What brought you here, sister?" she said with an expression of a brick wall."Alex, we need to talk," I told her."About what?"I turned to Victor. Our eyes met, and he understood then left the room.

AveryThe room was brighter than usual. There was a different chill to it too. It was quite welcoming in a way that I wanted to curl up into a ball and never leave. Then this rare thought surprised me. Why did I feel comfortable in Alexandra's chamber? I should be anxious or even scared.Instead, all I harbored in my heart was this cozy calmness.Alex had sent for me again this evening. Of course, I couldn't refuse her order. Most of the curtains were now opened. I noticed the uplifting change after I walked into her room. I wandered further and found Alex sitting on the bench of her black piano. She looked like she was in some deep t

As I sat inside an open-air gazebo, I watched the salty gentle breeze blew over the palm trees. Above the clear aqua-blue water, I watched herons filled up the tropical plants. Others went soaring in the high blue sky, going out of their nests for the morning hunt. Little birds chirped away over the blinding white beach.I breathed in the fresh humid air of serenity and tried to soak up the new reality I was thrown into. Then a musical voice drifted through the gentle wind. A new rush of vibrating zeal burst through my veins. I knew that sweet delicate tone. My face lighted up into a smile, already anticipating the presence of my other half."Alex!"I stood up and turned around to find a stunning girl in her beautiful pink pastel dress. AnastasiaIpunched one of the royal guards hard. He stumbled back and yelped in pain. I kicked the other in the stomach and flipped another off my back to the ground. My hands twisted his hand at the joints until I heard a crack. The poor guard cried on the floor. I was mad with anger and heartache.By then, no one dared to touch me anymore. Their fear of getting hurt like their fellows was visible on their hard faces."Your highness, please forgive us. We're only following the order," they apologized, bowing in surrender."Your job is to do as I say!" I yelled. "Now open the freaking door now or I'll rip all your heads off!"

AlexandraIwas drifting beyond this physical world of time and space. Until all my senses were wide awake, like the first blossom of spring. Like a spark of music to wake me from this endless dream. One touch at a time formed a sensation. A burst of electrifying jolts brought back fragments of my thoughts one by one. My hands wrapped around a small frame of someone. I felt like a newborn, suckling with hunger and wants.Ravenous growls echoed from the depth of my stomach. Sinking my teeth deeper, I wanted to get more of this blissful liquid taste. It was like sweet nectar or rich ambrosia to my thirsty mouth. For some reason, everything felt wrong to me. Something about a glowing

Ihad never been so terrified in my life that every breath I took agonized me. The constant craving for the person I longed for and how I might not be able to satisfy its hunger. And now my personal torment was still a never-ending course."Ana," I whispered to Anastasia, who sat near me in the car after we got off the plane."Yes?" she said, turning her face to me."Who did that to Alex?""You don't want to hear about it now,""I've heard from Victor, that someone betrayed her, is that true?" I said. Ana looked at me for a moment and then she nodded."Who's the traitor?"

AveryMy head rested against Anastasia's back as we were riding Stardust back to the mansion. It was getting colder as twilight began to fade. Anastasia had taken off her white coat and draped it around my shoulders. Stardust's footsteps were the only sound we heard through the wood as neither of us said anything. Of course, there was nothing left to say anymore. Finally, the forest fell into the background, and we got back into the backyard garden at last.Ana looked over her shoulder and whispered to me, "Are you alright?""Mmm..." I gave a weak nod."I'm getting off now."I nodded

AlexandraIstood looking at the Moskva River through the window. Saint Basil's Cathedral and the Red Square were in my view to the east. I could see Alexander Garden sprawled out from the west side. But everything felt so empty. Moscow was empty and cold and sad. Russia, Window to the West, was now a depressing sight. But it amazed me how I could still survive without Avery up to this point. It hurt every freaking night. I didn't know how long I could live with this. As if my heart would need a fortress stronger than Kremlin to keep it inside Russia. My heart knew no distance or time, all it was beating for was to be with my loved one. I missed the dizzying happiness with her. I missed her soft skin, her delicious lips, her fragra

"Now tell me what your hunters said about my plan.""Well, it was hard to convince them, but they finally agreed," Roza replied. "I told them what you had told me. Anastasia"Long time no see. Are you up for a good ride today, Stardust?" I said to my thoroughbred horse as I stepped in the barn, a bag of pieces of apple in my hand. Stardust's cotton white coat shone like a puffy morning cloud. The mare hung her head over her stall door and let out an eager whinny in response. Her white mane flowed like raw silk. I reached up to pat her strong shoulder. Stardust's ears twitched in delight as I motioned to our human stable boys to take the horse out.The white mare shook her powerful neck as she walked into a stream of spring sunshine. I took the reins from the stable boy and fed some more apple pieces to the horse."You want to get out and go as mu
