Chapter 11

Reagan's POV

Is that how she looked at me? A monster? I murmured to myself, my eyes lingering on Andrea's peaceful face as she slept. Gently, I tucked the strands of hair that had fallen across her face behind her ear.

I'd been called many things: monster, bastard child, murderer, the devil. Over time, I'd grown a thick skin, letting those names bounce off me. But hearing such hurtful words from her stung in a way I hadn't expected.

No, I shouldn't care. It was better if she saw me this way. Despising me would keep her at a distance, which was exactly where she needed to be.

"Do you plan on moping beside her all night?" a familiar voice broke through my thoughts.

A grin tugged at my lips. I knew that voice—a voice I had missed dearly. Turning, I saw my best friend and beta, Rya, standing in the doorway, her grin as wide as ever.

"Welcome back, Alpha," she said, wrapping me in a hug.

"It's good to see you," I replied, returning the embrace.
