"What are you thinking of?", Alex's hand squeezed mine to gain my attention. He couldn't help but ask since I didn't utter a single word from the moment I got into his car. Despite Maya's words and his comforting presence, this morning's events were still vivid in my mind. The anger was still there, but now it's no longer directed at the head enforcer alone. I was pissed at myself too. I felt stupid and naive. How could I ever believe that I could hide inside my cocoon forever?
"Eliane?", I shook my head, trying to chase away those dark thoughts. I should focus on my second date. I should thank him for running back to me. I should think of a way to improve myself and become useful to those dear to me. But I couldn't do anything. My mind was still replaying my shameful morning.
