LOVING YOU
Seasons came and went and love between Chris and Selena blossomed. They were almost inseparable, both finishing off each other's sentences as if their minds were in sync with one another. On-campus, they were the ultimate couple, their relationship was a source of envy to some while a vast majority of the students had great admiration for them, to a few they were inconsequential.
However, Chris and Selena were only interested in each other and cared less about what others thought about them or their relationship.
“Promise to always love me, Chris, no matter what.” Selena cupped the face of the only man that made her heart beat faster than normal. They had been dating for two years now. Although Selena’s father did not approve of them dating because he hates Chris, still Selena would not give in to her fathers' demands to stop the relationship.
She snuck out to meet Chris whenever she could escape from home. Their meeting point was Chris’s mother's, almost rundown one-bedroom apartment. They weren’t poor but they had to plan each dollar they spent. His mother treated her like a family member and this pleased Selena a lot, she hated being put on a high pedestal because of her family wealth. And with Chriss's mother, she was treated like an equal, with no special treatment because of her wealth or the color of her skin. Selena felt at home with Chris and his family more than she did with her own father.
The young couple was inseparable, except for her father Harry, everyone else loved their union. Mr. Harry Delacriox fought dirty and dangerously, he tried to arrest Chris on different occasions but failed as he never committed any crime except that he fell in love with his daughter, neighbors in his place of residence vouched for Chris, and defended him against Selena’s fathers’ constant bullying, and also encouraged his unique love for Selena.
Everyone except for Mr. Harry believed they would end up getting married and fill their home with children, love, and warmth. No one imagined their love story would have a tragic end, the love they felt for one another would supersede this lifetime or so they thought.
But the universe did not play a fair game, tragedy struck where it would hurt most. Chris’s mother became unwell and they thought it was just the flu, nothing serious. But it became a gateway for the devil to perpetuate its plans and cause terrible harm to innocent lives.
As soon as Chris walked into his home after school on a hot Friday afternoon, he walked in on his mother clutching a paper around her fingers. Making his way towards his mother with a brave front even though his heart was in his mouth, he asked the question he would have loved to avoid, afraid the answer was going to break his heart to pieces. There was no need to pretend he was not aware that his mother was expecting her test results in the mail today, so he went straight to the point.
“The diagnosis for her ailment came in. My kidneys have failed and I must undergo dialysis.” his mother replied without looking at him, as she stared into space.
Chris was dumbstruck by what he just heard, almost like a robot he continued. “When are you starting treatment?” leaning against the wall for support he waited.
“I must come on Thursday morning, according to the hospital.” his mother said, barely audible. “However, I will not be going.” She rose from the chair and made her way towards the fridge. Chris watched her every step and noticed her limp more than once even though she tried to conceal it.
“why?” Chris asked angrily and the sharp glare from his mum made him repeat his question in a calmer voice. “Why are you not going for treatment?”
Laughing, his mum came to him and playfully ruffled his dreads. “It is not necessary”
“Why? You are unbelievable, mother.”
“You need the money more for your college. I have enjoyed my life and already in my prime, I can't snatch your future away from you because of a minor illness.” she could touch the trust fund she had kept for his studies. Life was indeed unfair at times.
Chris kicked his baseball hard and sent it flying, crashing the glassware on the table. “Would your dying make my future any better.” he shouted and stomped out of the house in anger.
“What do I do Lord, help me. I feel so alone.” hugging herself she wept, for the scary present and the unknown tomorrow

A few hours later
******************
“Mum, wake up. You will catch a cold.” Chris shook his mum slowly
Disoriented, she looked at her son, “I must have slept off while cleaning.” Chris knew this wasn’t true because the glasses he broke in anger were still scattered on the floor and from the way his mum was curled up on the ground, he knew she had been crying. But he didn't say anything but helped her to the yellow faded couch in the living room.
Looking at her son with eyes filled with sorrow she held his hands and kissed them lightly. “Please forgive me.”
Understanding flooded Chris’s features even at twenty he had seen things beyond his age, life hadn’t been fair to him and he had had his fair share of bad luck. But he vowed that this time around he would win against fate no matter what he had to give up.
“We will get through this together mum.” hugging his mum he wondered what the future held for them and what bitter pills he would have to swallow.
His phone rang, breaking him from the reverie he was in. “I can’t come to the cafe, my mother is unwell. He listened to the voice on the other end for a while before cutting off the call.
“Who was on the call with you?” his mum asked weakly
“Selena, she is coming over.”
“That girl is a keeper, I hope both of you get all the happiness you deserve.”
Chris remained silent. If he had learned anything from the past, it was how unpredictable life was.
**************
By the time Selena arrived at Chris's mother's home, his mother was already in bed and it was getting dark.
“I was expecting you, earlier. I was worried something might have happened to you.” Chris held her glad she was finally here. He needed someone to talk to, someone that would not judge him or make him less of a man.
Kissing him on the lips, Selena dropped the groceries she bought on her way, on the kitchen counter before replying.
“I stopped at the mall to get some groceries. How is your mum doing.” Selena said, glancing over the room.
“She has gone to bed, she was too tired and couldn’t wait for you to get here.”
“I’m sorry, I should have gotten here earlier.” selena apologized
“It’s not your fault, stop apologizing and come over here.”
His tone of voice was so sultry, that Selena blushed. She obeyed him and went straight into his arms. They both fitted perfectly.
“I love you Selena” He bent over and kissed her passionately, they had decided to stay celibate till they were sure. But the intensity of his kiss marveled at Selena. She broke the kiss and looked him straight in the eyes, the passion that burned in his eyes sent electric waves around her body.
Chris himself could not understand what had come over him, his body burned with a passion for selena that nearly consumed him.
DO I DESERVE HER LOVE ************** CHRIS POV ************** Selena is the sweetest and kindest lady that I know. She was accommodating and never one to judge you or make you feel like a lesser person to her, this endeared her to me. I was seen as a nerd and colored poor kid in school even though I made good grades and didn't dress shabbily, they judged me before they got to know me. Their myopic mindset about me made me feel like a lesser person and I struggled with my mental health till I met Selena. She was like a breath of fresh air in my life. With her, you know that what you are getting is nothing short of the best. I was not a peasant as most students and some parents would love to think. We were not rich nor were we beggars. What we had was enough and I also had a state scholarship which made it easier for my mom, so she could have enough for our feeding, rent, a
JUST THE TWO OF US ***************** Narrators POV ***************** The diagnosis of his mother with kidney failure left Chris shattered, it felt as though his heart was about to be ripped off his chest. He had no relationship with his father who had died when he was just five months old. According to his mum, he had gone to the mall to get a new set of diapers and on his way home, he was hit by a drunk driver. The police had come home to deliver the news to her about her husband's death. She never remarried after that and decided to focus all her time on bringing up her son. Chris walked back and forth in the small living
LET’S MAKE LOVE Selena was feeling disappointed. She had expected Chris to join her in the bathroom after his sultry remark about them bathing together. However, a part of her was relieved that he did not join her. She did not notice as he slid into the bathroom until he wove his strong arms around her, goosebumps filled her skin leaving a tingling sensation all over her body. “You are beautiful,” Chris whispered against her ear before biting her earlobe gently. Resting his bare chest against her back, his hands wove around her and circled her breast, he caressed her hard nipples with his index fingers. A growl she tried to suppress escaped her mouth. He lay still on her, she could feel the throbbing of his heartbeat against her and a boner difficult to ignore.
I FEAR FOR MY LIFE **************** CHRIS POV **************** Making love to Selena was all I thought it would be and more. I had a strong physical and emotional connection with her and it felt great to love someone like her. I feel Selena has surrendered every part of herself to me, to our love and so have I, and I intend to love and cherish her till eternity. Loving someone has never felt so good until I met Selena, she gave without expecting anything in return. Our love for each other was pure and magical, I smile to myself whenever I remember she was mine and mine alone. It gives me great joy that she chose me over other guys. Through the months, our relationship waxed stronger, we grew more in love and sometimes we talked about the future. We were both young and to us, we had all the time in the world, there was no need to rush things. But the enemy was also there, trying to consume us, to sto
ANOTHER ATTEMPT ON MY LIFE ********************* NARRATORS POV ********************* Chris has been on the streets for so long to know and sense danger when it lurked around. It was almost evening, the sun had gone to sleep, and shadows trailed behind their owners. he was exhausted after spending most of the day at the hospital beside his mother, all he wanted to do was get home as fast as his tired legs could carry him, take a long cold shower to calm his throbbing nerves and muscle, whisk up a fast and healthy meal to eat and retire early to his bed. All these activities he had in mind might not go in accordance as he thought. He did not know which would come first as his eyes were almost drooping from lack of sleep as he made his wa
LOCKED UP ******************* SELENA’S POV ******************* My father has become unbearable since I spent the night at Chris. This was not the first time I didn't sleep at home but I think he suspects I was with Chris. He had refused to talk to me when I got home the following day, he was cold and distant throughout the day, the next day he seemed better but I knew something was wrong. He forbade me from going to church on the Sunday after my sleepover. I wanted to argue but I knew my father well enough. Once you refuse to do as he said, he finds a way to punish and make your life miserable. I just left him and started walking b
TO LIVE OR TO DIE *************** Selenas pov *************** “I am pregnant.” I felt thrilled and joyous at the same time even though I never planned to get pregnant now. But carrying Chris’s baby was exciting to me. However, I was a bit afraid because of my father. He tried to persuade me to abort the baby but I was adamant to keep the baby, nothing would make me kill Chris and me. No harm must come to my baby, but with time I started feeling numb. Father has trolled me with insults and was nearly physical with me the other day. I barely escaped unhurt when he threw the flower vase at me and it came crashing on the wall.
THIS ISN'T GOODBYE ********************* NARRATORS POV ********************** Selena's father could not believe his luck, after years of trying to separate his daughter and the riff-raff boyfriend of hers, the universe itself handed him a way, out of the blue. He believed that it was not a mere coincidence, nature itself was against such abominable union. He could not suppress the joy he felt right now. Finally, this whole mess would be over and he would have his daughter back, even though she was not his innocent little daughter anymore. “Did you really think that Selena would stick with a lowlife like you?” Mr. Harry Delacriou
EPILOGUE ********************** 5 MONTHS LATER ********************** Sophie had every reason to be happy today. It had been nine months of pelvic pain, sleepless nights, and heartache. In the end, it was worth it all; she held her baby who came into the world a few minutes ago, and instantly fell in love. The baby's cry was like a sweet melody in her ears. She would not trade her for all the gold in this world. “Congratulations darling.” Her mother smiles as she enters the room Sophie and her baby were at the Richmonds maternity center, usually patronized by the rich and famous not forgetting celebrities. Sophie smiled weakly, “I'm famished, I could eat a truckload of food r
THE LAST RUN ******************** CALEB’S POV ****************** I am already fifteen minutes late for the meeting. I can't wait to see the shock on their faces when I arrive. From what my personal assistant has told me, the whole family is in the boardroom, waiting for my arrival. I am also intentional about my dress code. Instead of the usual suit and tie, I decided to wear a shirt and ripped jeans; I look like the normal average guy, which to me is perfect. Brad, my chief operating officer, had earlier objected. He is from the school that believes that corporate events have a dress code, not me. I wear what I want to my own company. It feels great to be at the helm of so much power at this point.
MY BUTTERFLY ****************** CALEB’S POV ****************** My heart is heavy and burdened as I watch the woman who has come to mean everything to me wither away before my eyes. I see her pains and how she tries so hard to hide them with a smile. Sometimes I want to break down and cry but for her, I try to be strong. However when she is not watching I go to a private place and cry. They say strong men do not cry but for Angela’s sake I agree to be a weakling for her sake I agree that I am not man enough. We have only known each other for a short while now but to me; it seems like forever. We both have never been intimate, as we agreed to only remain friends. Angela's choice, not mine. My marriage with S
CHANGES *********************** NARRATOR’S POV *********************** The whole family was in a frenzy as they waited for news concerning their father and grandfather. Helen was hysterical, moving from one end of the hall to the other. “Sit down, for goodness’ sake, or stay still. You are making me dizzy with your back and forth,” David yelled at his elder sister. “Get a life you son of a gun.” Helen hissed but stayed still, her back resting on the wall. “Whore.” David muttered, ready for a fight of words with his sister. Everyone ignored them, as they were all tensed by what was happening. When they bo
LET IT BE ********************** SOPHIE’S POV *********************** Three Months LATER………….. The morning sickness has subsided greatly and I heaved a great sigh of relief. I thought the baby would come out of my mouth as I nearly puked my intestines out daily for almost three weeks. I wonder why they call it morning sickness when you are sick all day. I found myself eating foods I usually detested and found out the smell of my once favorite perfume made me sick. I know you guys must be wondering why I'm talking about morning sickness when I had earlier made an appointment to get rid of the baby. FLASHBACK……….
FOR F*CKS SAKE ********************** NARRATOR’S POV *********************** “I have spent decades building this company, and because that ...that riff-raff got a contract she now feels high and mighty and wants to start rubbing shoulders with me.” David rumbled on, his tie loosely hung over his neck, his shirt unbuttoned exposing the white singlet he was wearing inside. His wife Ella cringed as she looked at her husband. He must have lost his mind, was all she could come up with. He was not a heavy drinker and seeing him drunk and in this state made her angry. And it was no one else's fault but Sophie’s and her parents. They feel on top of the world lately. The most annoying part was the grandparent’s sudden favoritism for them. “Bunch of lo
Meeting the rival **************** Sophie’s pov **************** Since after the party, I’ve been feeling woozy and sick and for the life of me, I can’t explain why. I hardly get sick and at first, I thought it was the flu but the symptoms I’m having, state otherwise. I would have called in sick today, but I can’t. I have a meeting with the head of sales of Delacroix enterprise and I have to be on my best behavior, that’s if I intend to get more business deals from them. I quickly shower and try to moisturize my skin, but the smell of the lotion makes me sick and I rush to the toilet and puke out the little breakfast I had this morning. I splash some water on my face and walk back into my r
YES, TO LIVING ******************* CALEB’S POV ******************** I was surprised that Sophie invited me to her party considering our last run-in with each other. I wasn't keen on going but I realized that avoiding her and her family was not beneficial to my plans. As I contemplated on whether to go or not, Angela came into my mind and I decided to invite her. It has been almost a few weeks now since I last saw her as she traveled to see her parents. I decided to call her to know if she was back in New York or not. She didn't pick her call on the first ring and when she managed to pick she sounded off and this scared me a lot. I didn't understand what she was saying at first a
ME, MYSELF AND I ******************* ANGELA’S POV ******************* “LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE '' is my new motto. Life is indeed short, and tomorrow might never be. A sad fate, but someone’s reality. I had earlier refused to go to the Fernandez party with Caleb when he asked me because I was not in the right frame of mind. How do I go partying when my life was crumbling before me; when my life was enveloped by grief? It was indeed a sad phase for me. However, the more I brooded over my life and situation, I got to realize that I had to live before I die. I couldn’t spend the remaining days dying instea
