William could not believe that Reyna had called so soon about his offer to meet up and discuss. He had expected that she would take at least a week to respond to him. Not like he was complaining though. On the contrary, he was extremely happy about it and could not control his excitement. The past few months had been tough for him. Chapter 35Reyna could barely get any sleep that night. Her mind kept reeling from the after effects of her anger. She had arranged a meeting with William way too soon just because she wanted to spite Nicholas and she had gone out of her way to hit him. She had never, in all the years they were married, raised her hand to hit him. Her mind went back to the day, six years ago, when she had announced her pregnancy to him. She thought back to the heated argument that had ensued before he had raised his hand to hit her. The sting of the betrayal she had felt still hurt more than the sting of the slap. Reyna could not believe what she was hearing. Her hands shook from the shock of the news and for a few seconds, she was quiet as her hands shook. She could faintly hear William’s worried voice. Random thoughts ran through her mind as she imagined the worst possible scenarios happening with Mia. What did they mean Mia fainted and was in the hospital? “Good evening miss Collins. There is no easy way to say this so I will just go straight to the point. Mia is suffering from stage one leukemia.” Gasps surrounded the room as aunt Mildred broke out in tears and William felt Reyna’s legs giving out on her. William quickly caught Reyna before she could fall to the floor as he yelled to the doctor and the nurses to come to their aid. Soon, a stretcher was brought by a couple of nurses and Reyna was moved to the emergency ward. William was torn between going with her or staying with aunt Mildred to hear from the doctor. Aunt Mildred caught on to his confusion and decided to go with the nurses. “Stay with the doctor and find out what’s wrong with my little one. I’ll go with the nurses to check on my niece.” She told him. “Are you sure?” He asked. He knew he was not family and he was not sure if staying back would be okay with Reyna but aunt Mildred quickly assured him that it was okay. “Just go with the doctor. I will go with Reyna

Reyna slowly woke up, she tried to get up but fell back feeling a pain in her head. She laid back down, moving from side to side to try to fire out where she was, the pain in her head increasing with each movement. For a brief moment, she had no clue where she was or what had happened. After a few minutes, the curtain was pulled to the side revealing a distressed looking aunt Mildred. “Oh! My poor child. You are awake. You had me so worried. How do you feel now? Does it hurt anywhere?” Aunt Mildred asked as she walked up to Reyna’s bed, placing a hand on her forehead to check her temperature before going on to give the still confused Reyna a once over. Reyna still felt the last waves of the sedatives running through her veins and was still a bit out of it. “Oh! Thank the heavens. You look better. I’ll have the doctor come in and see if you’re out of the woods yet. Just stay there, don’t you move a muscle, you hear me?” Ain’t Mildred said as she hastily ran out of the curtained ro

Mia felt so weak and so much pain that talking had become more of a Herculean task for her. She slowly woke up as she felt someone crying and holding her hands. She had not even realized that she had fainted and had been rushed to the hospital. There, kneeling next to her bed was the unmistakable head of her mother who held her hands and cried into the sheets. She looked up to see aunt Mildred also standing there, in tears. She opened her mouth to say something but no words came out. Her throat felt parched and even being awake was painful to the young child. Soon, she felt like screaming as her heart started beating faster, offsetting the machine next to her and drawing her mother and aunt’s attention. She could hear them talking to her and crying and moving around between themselves but she could not do anything but look around and just observe her surroundings.
