Audrey’s POV

My heart pounded frantically against my ribcage as I tried to run as fast and as stealthily as I could into one of the dark caves situated by the walls of a particular mountain around.

It was high up and from here we could watch everything happening on the ground below without being noticed by whoever it was that had made that loud noise earlier.

Ian ran closely behind like a bodyguard or something and as soon as we had successfully hidden ourselves within the confines of the cave, he brought out an elixir from his pants pocket and quickly sprayed it on himself and myself.

“What’s that for?” I whispered in confusion, wincing as its terrible stench assaulted my nostrils.

“It’s a spell… to hide your scent.” He whispered back and I nodded.

My eyes widened in shock; I wanted to ask him how he got to possess something as powerful as that but held my tongue because I knew that this wasn’t a time to ask tons of questions or strike up a conversation.

He seemed to understand my si

Audrey’s POV:Our eyes met and held and for a long while, neither of us spoke nor moved, not even Ian who had been trying to climb down initially. It almost seemed like we all had been glued to place by some invisible force.I shook with fear too but tried not to show it because I knew that people like him thrive on other people’s fear.“Look who we have here..?” He snarled, rubbing the palms of his hands together. He had this look on his face that seemed both scary and irritating at the same time, and as much as I feared him, I also wanted to smack his head until it snapped.“Her Royal highness…” He answered himself. I wasn’t sure If it was just my thoughts, but I couldn’t help but feel like he was making a mockery of me; I ignored him. From my peripheral vision, I could notice Ian picking up a splinter of wood on the forest floor but I gestured to him to drop it because I knew it wouldn’t end well for us, we were outnumbered!“Aren’t you Audrey?” He asked suddenly but I wasn’t sur

Kaden POV:“What’s your take in this issue, Alpha?” An elder asked me but I could only shake my head because the only thing I could think about at the moment was Audrey. My butt cheeks felt like it had suddenly been placed atop a hot plate, making it difficult for me to sit still. I couldn’t say exactly why I felt this way but I couldn’t help but think that it could be because Audrey was in trouble. That should explain why my heart pounded against my ribcage frantically for no reason at all. That should also explain this restlessness I am feeling right now.“Alpha?”“I am going to summon a meeting with the doctor, my beta and a few other prominent people of this pack and when we’re done, I’ll let you all know what the outcome of that meeting is.” I muttered mechanically and smiled inwardly when no one refuted my suggestion.“Why can it not be held here and now?” Someone said, and I didn’t need to look to know that it was no other person but Erik; I ignored him.The elders resumed thei

Kaden's POV:My body shook uncontrollably with a feeling I couldn’t quite explain. Fear, that was all I could feel. It traveled down my spine and made my body vibrate until I couldn’t feel my legs. For a moment, I almost thought I’d died but then the only thing that reminded me that I was still alive was that my heart was beating really fast. With shaky legs, I walked down to where my bodyguard was. His face was without any emotion and I signaled to him that we should continue moving… at least, he should show me the reason he had screamed. We walked towards the body in silence and then my legs stumbled on something very hard. It felt like a rock. "Stop," I commanded my bodyguard and we both stopped. I pointed to the hard substance under my feet. He looked at me, waiting for a signal to check what was that."What are you waiting for?" I asked him and he searched the place where my feet were once resting. To my surprise, it was only a piece of an old antique that has been embedded on

Audrey's POV:I was still bound in place with thick rubbery ropes; and my eyes stung when the blindfold was forcefully pulled off my face, making me gasp slightly from the pain. It almost felt as if my eyes were about to pull off with it. I frowned.I squinted into the overly bright room and nearly cried as a splitting headache wracked my head until my eyes began to hurt severely. While I tried getting myself together, I discovered that the place didn’t look familiar but had this familiar aura about it that I couldn’t quite place. I held onto the ground and tried observing the place. The headache persisted and I felt it was because I had been blindfolded for so long that my eyes had already adjusted to the darkness. No one was there and I wondered where the person who removed the blindfold had gone. I didn't want to bother myself about things like this. All I knew was that I have been here for some time and that I needed to leave... and fast. I still didn’t know why I wa

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 72

Audrey’s POV:My heartbeat accelerated as I looked into his deep dark eyes, those eyes I’d loved during the times of my gullibility. I couldn't stop myself from trembling slightly at the sight of him, not from fear but from something else entirely. I also couldn't control my hand which was shaking vehemently, but then my face was passive... emotionless. The monster who was standing in front of me was more deadly than anyone I have met; he was the type capable of drawing you close just to kill you when you least expect.I would call him a beast. One who would shred another into pieces in the blink of an eye. I stared at my feet. I couldn't look at him, not even for a second. He reached out for my hand and goose bumps appeared all over my body. I flinched at his cold touch. His fingers were still the same. Nothing changed about him.My fearful self looked up and my eyes rested on his face. I was expecting to see the hatred that burned in them. That hatred which was always there... eve

Kaden’s POV:I was worried to death. My mind couldn't stop wandering around the place. What the hell was happening? Maybe this level of worry would be the death of me. Due to the worry and my sudden inability to stay at a place for a minute, I stood up from where I was and went to stand close to lan's bed in the hospital. I stood patiently, waiting for him to wake up.He was putting on an oxygen mask to support his breathing but I could notice the steady rise and fall of his chest. "He has been poisoned," the doctor said as he came inside the ward. I didn't notice that the door opened because I was lost in my private thoughts. "Poisoned?" I blurted out and the doctor scribbled something on a piece of paper. I didn't bother to know what he wrote. He didn't show me either. Maybe it was something exclusive to him."Yes, from the tests carried out on him, it’s been deduced that he was poisoned… with wolfsbane, probably forced down his throat and after he was poisoned, he was throw

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 74

Audrey's POVMy eyelids snapped open and my heart began to race when I discovered that I was in a strange room and on a strange bed. The bed was so soft that I almost wanted to succumb to the lushness that came with it. I sighed as the memories of last night flashed through my mind. I could remember how Jacob's soldiers had captured me and brought me here and now I am sure that Kaden would be dead worried about me right now and would probably be in search of me. I could imagine the rage he would be feeling right now and prayed that he gets to find me quicker than Jacob decides to use me for one of his sick jokes; Someone would definitely lose his head in a blood battle."This is surprising," I muttered, staring at my free hands. I had totally thought that my hands were tied or cuffed…or something like the captured prisoner that I was but instead, they left my hands free; even my legs were untied."It seems my captors are foolish" I muttered to myself, hoping that no one would hea

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 75

Kaden's POVIt's quite appealing, listening to the news of Audrey's sudden disappearance."Where do you think she'll be?"I inquired, staring at Alder who was seemingly just as angry as I was. I was seated in my office, but I couldn't bring myself to find comfort in the chair. I was tense at this point. “She probably went on a vacation?” Adler said jokingly, in a bid to lighten my mood but it only seemed to rile me up even more."Are you seriously spilling those words out of your mouth? Does this look like a joke to you?… does it?? The fact that Audrey is missing and Ian is hospitalized doesn’t make you worried in any way?” I snapped at him, he knew I was serious but the look on his face told me that he would persist with riling me up. "Well it's just my opinion. I warned you about your attitude towards her, but you always said I was wrong, things were so complicated. Well it's more complicated than you can explain." Adler retorted, stepping backwards away from me. He knew me just l

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Epilogue

With my hands planted firmly on my waist, I stared confusedly at the two crying babies in front of me and no matter what I did or said to calm them down, nothing seemed to be working. Seemingly Lost in confusion and not knowing what to do, I tried hard to comfort the crying babies in front of me but they instead laid, crying tirelessly that at a point, I did not know what else to do for they could not stop crying. I carried one of them in my arms and began to rock it gently, the other laid in the crib built for the two babies. I continued this way, giving turns to each of them as I held them in my arms attempting to get them to fall asleep but they wouldn’t. That did little to make them quit though and I grew frustrated but I knew I could not give up. I had tons of work to do, a lot of paperwork also and the thought of attending to those immediately after dropping these kids filled me with so much tiredness that I felt I would drop dead. Since the takeover from Jacob, there

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 122

Audrey's POVFeeling happy and fulfilled that I had fulfilled my words and that I had been able to Kill Jacob in the exact way I had imagined it, I smiled to myself thinking of how this was the first time I felt like I had done something worth deserving as I stared down at his decapitated body which was now covered in a of his own blood, and could vividly see the hole I made on his heart.A smile got stuck on my lips and I couldn't let it go. I allowed it, wondering why Ian had this weird stare on me."You finally killed the predator, after being the prey for so long. You're taking over the predator's land." I muttered to myself as I stared at his blood dripping neck, making trails as I walked, I wanted them to see that I had killed Jacob and ended his reign of terror and destruction.I walked out to the corridor where she listened to the silent gasps and the scared look on the faces of the people.I held the head in my hands and showed it to the people."This marks the end of this he

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 121

Audrey's POVI knew Jacob was a bit surprised that I had smiles all over my face, despite the fact that he had a knife pressed on my neck.He was a bit stubborn and I wondered what I would say to him that would make him move the knife away from my neck despite all the white lies I had told him. It was a little confusing to watch him and the cynical smile on his face and at the same time, I was bothered because I knew he was psychotic and could do anything."You could just remove this knife, I would surely guarantee your safety." I said quietly as he pressed the knife deeper into my neck, it was hurting but I couldn't let out a tear, knowing that it would mean defeat and I hated being defeated by clumsy enemies such as Jacob. "Do you expect me to believe you?" He retorted sharply as he pressed the knife, adding a little force to it. When he wasn’t watching, I tilted my head slowly, in a bid to pull my neck away from the sharp blade. "Come on, you have my word, I would surely beg Kad

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 120

Kaden's POVI loved the fact that Logan had to turn against his pack, knowing fully well that Jacob turned them against him. Having killed some of his men, Logan grew tired of killing and felt like setting it amicably. They surrounded him as he let down his guard, he told his men to do the same as they all stopped fighting, Jacob's soldiers were afraid, I guess filled with that thought that they were just leading them to a trap."Why won't you fight us?" The Chief guard questioned as the guard paved the way for him to walk through. "I can't, we can keep on wasting our strength on each other when the real devil is up there watching us." Logan explained, wondering how Logan tends to make this work, it would be hard and it might get ugly. "What do you mean?" The Chief guard was confused. "Jacob is a man that would surely have you all killed if need be. He wouldn't hesitate to threaten the lives of your family if you dare flout his orders" Logan uttered, wearing a smile on his face, ho

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 119

Kaden's POVI felt uneasy, knowing that I had my reservations with Audrey's plot, but I had to give in, she had it all planned out and now that I thought about it, mine had loopholes. If we had attacked Jacob as I planned, he would have escaped or better still led us into one of his unforseen traps which would leave us in jeopardy; harming my men, weakening my manpower and having a strong hold on my resources. But with Audrey's plot, she handles on the inside, while we take care of his men outside which would make everything even and provide Jacob with an extremely slim chance of escaping or having to use someone as bait while trying to escape. "I just hope Audrey succeeds with her plan, I'll take care of these ones here with my own plan," I muttered to myself, knowing that my men were also waiting for my signal.I assured myself, rigging off every fear and trying to remain at peace as I waited for a signal to show that Audrey was in trouble. For now though, I hadn't felt any pa

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 118

AUDREY’S POVI waited for Jacob’s reply to my sarcastic but true comment about the palace but it did not come, the intent of it had not fazed him a bit I noticed and I began to wonder what went on through his mischievous mind. Jacob gently placed his arm around my back and I flinched at the feel of his strong arms around me but let him guide me to a chair close to his throne. Surprisingly he had not still said anything in reply to the view I had concerning the place, perhaps he had sensed the sarcasm in my voice even though I suspected that he knew what I said was true. He acted really sweet towards me while I acted according to the script I was writing in my mind.I sat down calmly on the chair he had offered me and he sat on the enormous throne. We started to talk and he asked about my trip there, asking if I had any troubles on my way. I sweetly replied to him, not forgetting to remind him of how I was capable of taking care of myself. I wondered why he and Kaden always felt that

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 117

Audrey’s POVDespite the anger I felt coursing through my veins and spiking up my nerves, I managed to force a smile as the soldier who stood guard at the door to the throne room opened the huge doors for me to pass through. I stepped into the room slowly as if expecting to be met with some kind of trap and then stopped at some point to take my first real glance at the expanse of the room and the striking view ahead of me. I marveled at the sheer beauty it emitted but couldn’t help but think about how it had lost its shine. The palace, even though ancient as it was, was one of the most mesmerizing views I had ever had the pleasure of seeing. It looked different from what I remembered it to be; the structures were getting old, the decorations were fading out, and what made the room gorgeous most was no longer there – the glitter of people laughing and cheering happily nonstop, in love and harmony. The memory of how the palace used to be filled with love and glamor when it was still m

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 116

Audrey's POVI sat with my hands folded in front of me as I had become more than a little tense due to how much I was wondering what Kaden wanted to tell me that made him keep me in a weird suspense. I hated the fact that my heart raced, hoping that the news wouldn't affect me, or have anything to do with Kaden or Shantel but then from the expression on his face, it was difficult to ascertain if the news coming was a bad one or a good one. I gulped.Filling my head with irrelevant thoughts, I was getting confused as I felt someone holding my left palm, Shantel tilted her head upwards and down, assuring me that all would be fine. I hearkened to her with the evidence of doubt still writhing in me."You're making me uneasy, what is it that you wanted to tell me?" I stuttered as Kaden bowed his head down as he said in a low tone;"I can't tell you, when she's around. She has to leave us, it's personal and urgent.""That won't be possible, Shantel says. If I deserve to listen to this new

  • The Revenge Of A Rejected Mate   Chapter 115

Audrey's POVI hated the fact that I had soiled my fingers trying to take down a guard, knowing that this was a test to show my strength and skills which I knew I didn't have. I just wanted to be able to fight off my enemies with my hands and legs in combat, which would be to my advantage and would come in handy whenever I would need to protect myself, knowing fully well that this was dark times and that Kaden's soldiers were dying in their numbers. It was hard to believe it, but they would just go missing and their dead body would be found, wondering what he was planning or his plans on how to catch this culprit that has murdered many men. I knew this was a plot to reduce Kaden's man power, and it was working effectively. Jacob knew this, and was using it to his advantage. "You're doing quite well, keep it up" Shantel said to me even though I knew I wasn’t doing any good. I knew that she was only being helpful, the smile on her face said the words she was hiding. This was her wa
