Audrey’s POV:Still in shock, I walked up to Shantel’s room thinking she had to have some sort of explanation for Elora’s mysterious demise. When I got to her door, surprisingly I saw the door left wide open and I wondered why. I walked in and met Shantel seated on the floor with her back turned away from the door. Immediately I stepped into the room, Shantel called my name and that surprised me. I wondered how she knew that I was the person at her door. I brushed off the feeling and moved closer to her so we could talk. Seeing that she was not performing any sort of spell like I had thought when I saw her seated there, I then sat down close to her.“Hey Shantel, I need to tell you something and I really need to know if you know anything about it okay?” I said to Shantel, reaching out for her hand.“Alright go ahead, you know you can tell me anything right?” she asked me.“Of course I do.” I replied, eager to know what she knew. “So, you know after you left me yesterday and we went t
Kaden’s POVSitting at my desk inside my office going through files and numerous papers, my mind wandered carelessly without direction as I occupied it with hundreds of thoughts. A lot of things were going wrong in my pack and all lingered heavily in my mind, causing me to lose the focus I required to handle it all. For the first time since taking over as the king I had felt helpless, not knowing what to do and how to handle the increasing number of difficult choices around me. I was left with the responsibility of making virtually all the decisions of the pack and as its problems kept piling, it weighed on my shoulder. Without any concentration, I flipped through files and flung papers about in utter frustration. Somewhere among my pattern-less thoughts, I remembered that it was Erik’s funeral that day. Erik was dead but the thought of attending his funeral still haunted me, giving me the chills every time I recalled how he had fallen because it hurt me to see him die even though
Audrey’s POVI sat inside my room in the company of my newly found best friend Shantel, we talked about the obvious threat of war on the pack and wondered about Jacob’s ultimate plan and the role he played in all of it. We had been talking all day about many things like the current situation of the pack which had started out with the death of Elora and proceeded with the unrest that followed it. I tried my best to stay clear of Kaden who was so busy trying to figure it out and with things made worse, the news of war threats from another pack. We both had agreed to not let the news about Jacob’s threats out knowing the magnitude of unrest it would cause. If the people began to hear rumors of war it could create another problem so we kept the news between only a few of us. Questions were even already asked about Elora’s mysterious death which we could not provide the right answers to.The unsolved death of Elora and the hovering threat over my life were some of the reasons I had kept
Audrey’s POVStill in bed and deeply lost in thoughts, I stared at my ceiling unconsciously as imaginary images began to appear on the background of the wooden brown surface that stared back at me from above. I was still very much worried about Kaden and his current situation with Jacob. I was more worried now that Jacob was threatening to go to war with Kaden simply because of Elora’s death having accused Kaden of killing her than anything else. What bothered me the most was the fact that I still had a strong feeling that this was all Jacob’s plan all along and if it were so, then he had somehow sacrificed an unsuspecting Elora in order to gain a step ahead of all of us in his dirty schemes. Until her death, I had not forgiven Elora and she had been unrepentant and hateful towards me still, but because of the fond memory of the friendship I shared with her, I felt a thread of anger towards Jacob for using Elora in his evil schemes which had caused her to lose her life, even thoug
Jacob’s POVThe long dining table I sat in was quite huge and empty, the room was as silent as a graveyard too but that was how I loved to eat; alone and in total silence. The only noise that could be heard was the clicking of my cutleries together and the sound of wine pouring into a glass by the maid that stood beside me. She set the bottle down after almost filling the glass to the brim and tried to shift it closer to me but accidentally spilled some drops on the shiny table made of cedar. I snapped.I was irritated by the meek manner in which she carried out her duties and in sudden anger I picked the glass up and poured out the entire contents of the wineglass on her dress. “Sir..!” The maid shrieked and moved backwards as the crimson red liquid stained her clothes but I paid no attention to the pathetic face she was pulling at me. Instead I focused more on how annoying she was and just how she had made me lose my appetite.. I stood up, pushing my seat backwards forcefully and
Audrey's POVI hated the fact that I had soiled my fingers trying to take down a guard, knowing that this was a test to show my strength and skills which I knew I didn't have. I just wanted to be able to fight off my enemies with my hands and legs in combat, which would be to my advantage and would come in handy whenever I would need to protect myself, knowing fully well that this was dark times and that Kaden's soldiers were dying in their numbers. It was hard to believe it, but they would just go missing and their dead body would be found, wondering what he was planning or his plans on how to catch this culprit that has murdered many men. I knew this was a plot to reduce Kaden's man power, and it was working effectively. Jacob knew this, and was using it to his advantage. "You're doing quite well, keep it up" Shantel said to me even though I knew I wasn’t doing any good. I knew that she was only being helpful, the smile on her face said the words she was hiding. This was her wa
Audrey's POVI sat with my hands folded in front of me as I had become more than a little tense due to how much I was wondering what Kaden wanted to tell me that made him keep me in a weird suspense. I hated the fact that my heart raced, hoping that the news wouldn't affect me, or have anything to do with Kaden or Shantel but then from the expression on his face, it was difficult to ascertain if the news coming was a bad one or a good one. I gulped.Filling my head with irrelevant thoughts, I was getting confused as I felt someone holding my left palm, Shantel tilted her head upwards and down, assuring me that all would be fine. I hearkened to her with the evidence of doubt still writhing in me."You're making me uneasy, what is it that you wanted to tell me?" I stuttered as Kaden bowed his head down as he said in a low tone;"I can't tell you, when she's around. She has to leave us, it's personal and urgent.""That won't be possible, Shantel says. If I deserve to listen to this new
Audrey’s POVDespite the anger I felt coursing through my veins and spiking up my nerves, I managed to force a smile as the soldier who stood guard at the door to the throne room opened the huge doors for me to pass through. I stepped into the room slowly as if expecting to be met with some kind of trap and then stopped at some point to take my first real glance at the expanse of the room and the striking view ahead of me. I marveled at the sheer beauty it emitted but couldn’t help but think about how it had lost its shine. The palace, even though ancient as it was, was one of the most mesmerizing views I had ever had the pleasure of seeing. It looked different from what I remembered it to be; the structures were getting old, the decorations were fading out, and what made the room gorgeous most was no longer there – the glitter of people laughing and cheering happily nonstop, in love and harmony. The memory of how the palace used to be filled with love and glamor when it was still m
With my hands planted firmly on my waist, I stared confusedly at the two crying babies in front of me and no matter what I did or said to calm them down, nothing seemed to be working. Seemingly Lost in confusion and not knowing what to do, I tried hard to comfort the crying babies in front of me but they instead laid, crying tirelessly that at a point, I did not know what else to do for they could not stop crying. I carried one of them in my arms and began to rock it gently, the other laid in the crib built for the two babies. I continued this way, giving turns to each of them as I held them in my arms attempting to get them to fall asleep but they wouldn’t. That did little to make them quit though and I grew frustrated but I knew I could not give up. I had tons of work to do, a lot of paperwork also and the thought of attending to those immediately after dropping these kids filled me with so much tiredness that I felt I would drop dead. Since the takeover from Jacob, there
Audrey's POVFeeling happy and fulfilled that I had fulfilled my words and that I had been able to Kill Jacob in the exact way I had imagined it, I smiled to myself thinking of how this was the first time I felt like I had done something worth deserving as I stared down at his decapitated body which was now covered in a of his own blood, and could vividly see the hole I made on his heart.A smile got stuck on my lips and I couldn't let it go. I allowed it, wondering why Ian had this weird stare on me."You finally killed the predator, after being the prey for so long. You're taking over the predator's land." I muttered to myself as I stared at his blood dripping neck, making trails as I walked, I wanted them to see that I had killed Jacob and ended his reign of terror and destruction.I walked out to the corridor where she listened to the silent gasps and the scared look on the faces of the people.I held the head in my hands and showed it to the people."This marks the end of this he
Audrey's POVI knew Jacob was a bit surprised that I had smiles all over my face, despite the fact that he had a knife pressed on my neck.He was a bit stubborn and I wondered what I would say to him that would make him move the knife away from my neck despite all the white lies I had told him. It was a little confusing to watch him and the cynical smile on his face and at the same time, I was bothered because I knew he was psychotic and could do anything."You could just remove this knife, I would surely guarantee your safety." I said quietly as he pressed the knife deeper into my neck, it was hurting but I couldn't let out a tear, knowing that it would mean defeat and I hated being defeated by clumsy enemies such as Jacob. "Do you expect me to believe you?" He retorted sharply as he pressed the knife, adding a little force to it. When he wasn’t watching, I tilted my head slowly, in a bid to pull my neck away from the sharp blade. "Come on, you have my word, I would surely beg Kad
Kaden's POVI loved the fact that Logan had to turn against his pack, knowing fully well that Jacob turned them against him. Having killed some of his men, Logan grew tired of killing and felt like setting it amicably. They surrounded him as he let down his guard, he told his men to do the same as they all stopped fighting, Jacob's soldiers were afraid, I guess filled with that thought that they were just leading them to a trap."Why won't you fight us?" The Chief guard questioned as the guard paved the way for him to walk through. "I can't, we can keep on wasting our strength on each other when the real devil is up there watching us." Logan explained, wondering how Logan tends to make this work, it would be hard and it might get ugly. "What do you mean?" The Chief guard was confused. "Jacob is a man that would surely have you all killed if need be. He wouldn't hesitate to threaten the lives of your family if you dare flout his orders" Logan uttered, wearing a smile on his face, ho
Kaden's POVI felt uneasy, knowing that I had my reservations with Audrey's plot, but I had to give in, she had it all planned out and now that I thought about it, mine had loopholes. If we had attacked Jacob as I planned, he would have escaped or better still led us into one of his unforseen traps which would leave us in jeopardy; harming my men, weakening my manpower and having a strong hold on my resources. But with Audrey's plot, she handles on the inside, while we take care of his men outside which would make everything even and provide Jacob with an extremely slim chance of escaping or having to use someone as bait while trying to escape. "I just hope Audrey succeeds with her plan, I'll take care of these ones here with my own plan," I muttered to myself, knowing that my men were also waiting for my signal.I assured myself, rigging off every fear and trying to remain at peace as I waited for a signal to show that Audrey was in trouble. For now though, I hadn't felt any pa
AUDREY’S POVI waited for Jacob’s reply to my sarcastic but true comment about the palace but it did not come, the intent of it had not fazed him a bit I noticed and I began to wonder what went on through his mischievous mind. Jacob gently placed his arm around my back and I flinched at the feel of his strong arms around me but let him guide me to a chair close to his throne. Surprisingly he had not still said anything in reply to the view I had concerning the place, perhaps he had sensed the sarcasm in my voice even though I suspected that he knew what I said was true. He acted really sweet towards me while I acted according to the script I was writing in my mind.I sat down calmly on the chair he had offered me and he sat on the enormous throne. We started to talk and he asked about my trip there, asking if I had any troubles on my way. I sweetly replied to him, not forgetting to remind him of how I was capable of taking care of myself. I wondered why he and Kaden always felt that
