Chapter 3 - THE TRUTH

"W-what?" Nathalie seemed turned deaf.

"Isn't that what you want? Well, I'm giving you your freedom."

Nathalie stepped a little closer to the man. "N-nigel, what are you talking about?" She felt panicked. Athough he always hurts her feelings, she's still unwilling to separate from him.

"I said, let's divorce. Besides, you already found out about me and Elaine, didn't you? but why did you tell it to my dad when you knew he would be mad? And Elaine, isn't she's your bestfriend? Why do you need to be cruel on us?"

'What? So my in-laws already know about him and Elaine? But.... but I didn't told them anything.'

Nigel sat on the sofa and drank a gulp of beer. "Forget it, we will divorce soon..... Get out of my life Nathalie. I don't have anything now, so I have nothing to worry anymore. I can finally divorce you and end this suffocating marriage life with you, but no matter what happens, though I lost everything, I will never leave Elaine."

This stab Nathalie's chest once again. 'I know, and I already accept it. You indeed can do anything for her...... You indeed loved her.'

When the beer ran out, Nigel went out to buy some but never returned.

It was a sleepless night for nathalie, she just toss and turn on the bed. After three years, is this how her relationships with nigel ends? Will they really going to divorce? Although she had prepare herself for this, but Nathalie couldn't bear it. Her tears fell whenever she thought that she's going to be separated from him.

Her panic attack suddenly kick in so Nathalie sat up. She developed it from her depression, and instead to have improvement, it got worse because of the things that came up between her and Nigel. After she calmed herself down, she lie on the bed again.

Nigel didn't come home to the apartment for two days, so Nathalie look for him. As a reliable friend who can gossip non-stop, she asked Michelle's help to seek the man, and she found him on a pub. She wanted to talk to Nigel to clear her name and telling him that she didn't told anything to his father and she wanted to help him to take back all what was lost to him.

She saw him drowning himself in alcohol in the corner with his friend, he looks stressed and problematic. Nathalie sat near them, and maybe because both of the man was a little drunk, they didn't even notice and recognize her. She silently sat there while sipping on her soda and while listening to them.

According to Nigel, he didn't say anything to Elaine about the wrath of his father and the lost of his heritance. Elaine has to undergo surgery, so she has to find a heart donor as soon as possible. According to her doctor, her situation is getting worse. She even requested Nigel Nathalie's heart but how could he force Nathalie? It's a human life and he's not a murderer.

Nathalie walked on the street while in a daze. She thought of what she heard from Nigel. At the park, she sat on a swing and smiled bitterly. Nigel seemed to be on his end wits and seemed helpless. Will he just watch the woman he loves die without doing anything?

Nathalie almost spent the whole night outside. A man came to rob her but she didn't seem to mind, she just gave her wallet and cellphone without any care. Fortunately, the man didn't do anything to her.

When it was dawn, she decided to return to the apartment. Because she don't have money to stop a cab, she walk home. When she returned, she took a shower and lie down on the bed. She murmurs: 'When I wakes up, I'll finally be free.'

On the fourth day, Nigel returned to their apartment with a divorce paper on his hand. He caught Nathalie while she was packing her things. He stood at door's jamb while watching her.

When Nathalie turned around, she was stunned to see her husband.

"Let's talk, and..... I need you to sign something." Nigel calmly said. They went into the living room and sat down.

Nigel immediately present the divorce paper.

Nathalie smiled bitterly, this man seemed can't wait to be with Elaine officially. She hid the sorrow and pain in her heart and picked up the pen, she signed her name without blinking.

Nigel seemed to be happy and satisfied as he looked down at their signature on the divorce paper. "You don't have to move, this apartment will be yours from now on, I already move to my condominium."

Nathalie didn't say anything from the start, after Nigel left, she continued packing her stuff. When she had put everything away, she looked around the apartment as if she engrave it to her memory. 'Thank you for the past three years, I will now leave all of my memories here.'

On the next day, Nigel cooked chicken soup with herbs which is good for the patient with heart condition, he then showered and went to the hospital. Since he does'nt need to go to the company anymore, he will be able to spend all his time taking care of Elaine. She will surely be delighted by his surprise visit and when she finds out that he and Nathalie are now divorced. He will finally tell her about his situation. Its just, he's a little worried, afterall, he had lost everything. But he didn't expect that he'll be the one to be surprised.

When he reached on the door, he heard Elaine and her attending doctor talking:

"You finally have a heart donor." Said the doctor.

Elaine answered. "Reject it. Except Nathalie's heart, I don't want anything else."

"Well, congratulations, because the donor I'm talking about was the very woman you're referring to."

Nigel was greatly surprised to hear that his ex wife agreed to donate her heart, but what about her? He was about to go in to confirm it, but he thought to listen more. He couldn't understand but he felt something amiss with this conversation.

"Really?!" Elaine seemed to be elated. "Great!" And she laughed happily as if she hadn't heart condition. "Good! Take her heart immediately, and then..... throw it away."

This stunned Nigel, What Elaine did say? His ex-wife agreed to donate her heart for her but she just wanted to throw it away?

"No! Why throw it away?" The doctor thought to keep it for the patient who will be needed it in the future, afterall, it's a healthy heart.

"And what am I suppose to do with that? Do I need it? It's not that I really have heart desease, isn't it? If you like, take it. Dissect it, or feed it to the dogs, I don't care."

Upon hearing this, Nigel dropped the flask he was holding. He couldn't understand the situation, but it was now clear that this woman does'nt really have a heart disease, and this was came from her mouth. What more, this woman seemed to be really wicked by nature and he doesn't seem to know her anymore.

The two of them turned to the door because of the noise created by the falling of the flask and they were stiffened.

"N-nigel....?" Elaine covered her mouth. She never imagined she would see this man this early, but what he's doing here, doesn't he need to work at the company?

Nigel stepped inside the room. "W-what's going on? is it true you dont really have heart disease? And Nathalie.....?"

The two paled. "N-no..... Nigel, l-let me explain." Elaine was about to approach him, when the doctor suddenly tried to run away.

Nigel grabbed him and pinned him down to the bed. He took the knife used to cut fruit and aimed it at the doctor's neck. "Speak, what's really going on? You are Elaine's attending doctor, aren't you? does she really have heart diseases or not?" Nigel was really furious, he seemed to be serious to slash his neck. This made the doctor trembled in fear.

"I will say, I will say..... It's true, it's true.... she really doesn't have heart disease. She's just pretending and she's paying me to execute it.....p-please, put the knife away, you might cut me accidentally."

Nigel faced Elaine. "Why? Why did you fool me?" The pain was visible on his face.

The doctor suddenly cut in. "S-sir, she did that to rid off your wife. She even said, she'll make sure she convinces you to remove your own wife's heart one day." The doctor thought that in this way, he would lessen his guilt and sin from what he did.

"Shut up!" Elaine growled at the doctor.

"Elaine!" Nigel grabbed Elaine's arm and squeeze it tightly, this made the woman grimace in pain. "You're so wicked! what is Nathalie had done to you that you do this to her?"

"S-sir..." The doctor interrupted again. "You must find your wife now, as far as I know, she came earlier to undergo the surgery, you might not be able to catch up with her."

And this made Nigel's heart pound like crazy as if it wanted to escape from his chest, anxiety suddenly crept over him. He throw Elaine aside and hurried out of the room.
