Chapter 9

I had to take quite a lot of painkillers after arriving back home to ease the pain.

I lay on the sofa with my eyes closed and felt that dying just like that would be a good thing.

There wouldn't be any more pain if I died.

"Mom..." Laura quickly ran over to me and wrapped her arms around me. "I don't want Dad anymore. I don't want Mom to be in a quarrel with Mr. Frost."

'Mr. Frost?' I wondered.

It took me a while to realize that Laura was referring to James.

"Aw, don't cry, Laura. I promise you that I won't quarrel with him anymore."

I pulled Laura into my arms and rested my chin on her forehead. Tears trickled down my face uncontrollably.

That was when my phone suddenly started ringing. It was my best friend, Rory Lister.

I quickly wiped the tears from my face and asked Laura to sit by my side before accepting the video call request.

"What made you call me today, Rory?" I asked.

Rory smiled. "I just finished today's shooting and suddenly remembered that it was Laura's birth
