Chapter 9

When we get there, the hall is already starting to fill with guests, Erin is on the door checking names and invites against her list. Uncle Alpha, aunt Kay and Elias are of course the welcoming committee.

They all smile at me as we walk up the steps to them, as we stop for the parents to talk, I go stand by Elias, who nearly drops his jaw at the site of me.

"Yeah right" I glare at him "come on, don't be an ass" nudging his shoulder.

" No really, no joking you look .." he paused as if searching for the right adjective ".. beautiful"

Tucking my hair behind my ear and trying not to blush, we both suddenly notice we are being observed. " Why are they looking at us like that?" Elias links to me. " It's ... Weird" I couldn't agree more.

"Yeah, I don't like it"

Pauline, obviously not happy about the attention being on anyone else, especially me, coughs, pulling their eyes away from us. First time I've ever been grateful for her self-centeredness.

Few hours later after we found our seats, ate, toasted and mingled, the band is in full swing. Erin and I are sat at our table, sipping our drinks which we nearly spit out at the site of Elias, limping back over to us. Struggling to contain our giggles of laughter when he collapses into a chair next to me.

"What alphas daughter doesn't know how to dance?" He hypothetically asked as he downed the rest of his rum. We couldn't hold it in any longer, especially when we could see the daughter in question, trying to unsuccessfully, subtly, look over at Elias. "Shut it" he growls at us through his gritted teeth. "If I have to dance with one more eligible bachelorette I'm gonna ... " He stops mid rant as the band starts playing a cover of satellite by Nickelback and I close my eye swaying to the opening notes.

"Chilli?"

Suddenly Elias is back up on his feet, holding out his hand.

"Hu?" Bewildered as I look up at him

"May I have this dance?" I look at Erin who pulls a silly face and shrugs.

"Umm" hesitant to his offer.

"Come on, I know you like this song, let's show them how it's done. Plus it'll be nice to not have my feet stepped on at least once tonight" he winks at me with a cheeky grin. His not wrong, I do love this song and part of our training was learning all forms of ballroom dancing.

Taking a deep breath, I take his hand and let him lead me to the middle of the dance floor. I put my hand on his shoulder, as his goes to my waist, which sent a spark through my nerves. Hu, weird, must be the rum and coke, we young wolves aren't aloud to drink much.

Logan POV

"Look at them two" Alpha Sam jesters towards the dance floor where our kids are. I sip my drink watching my daughter having fun and she looks happy.

Sam and I have been friends for years, more like brothers really. When we found our mates at more or less the same time and they turned out to be twins, it was like a double dose of fate. It made us even closer which we didn't think was possible.

"You may think me mad, Logan but I thought they were going to be each other's mates"

I nearly choke on my whiskey as I stared at him

"Charlie and Elias?" Looking back at them dancing. "They're cousins remember?" Elias had just spun Charlie, now back in his arms she was smiling, looking so happy, the happiest I'd seen her in a long time.

"I know, I know but it's not unheard-of"

We keep watching them on the dance floor, it's like they are floating.

"It's rare Sam, I've not heard of it happening for decades and the grief and judgement they'd get, not sure it would be accepted". but the more I think about it the more I understand where his coming from.

"You can see it now, can't you?" Sam nudges me with his elbow.

"It doesn't matter anyway, they are both nearly nineteen and have their wolves, it would have happened by now" I state taking another sip, wanting the whiskey to numb this awkward conversation.

"Yeah and we'd all know about it too, it's not a easy thing to hind" Sam chuckles as he winks at me.
