Chapter 127

We race along another hallway following the sounds of distress as it becomes louder and louder, until we reach the end and last door. I go to open it but it won't, like it's locked or something.

"Why won't it open?" Chilli coughs next to me, leaning up against the wall, she sounds and looks exhausted.

"It's stuck, the bones of the building must be shifting in the heat." I speculate now trying to force the door open, but it still won't move. Even after throwing my shoulder up against it, it's no use.

"Together," Chilli suggests and I'm hesitant at the idea of her smacking herself into a solid door, but I know there is no stopping her or time to argue, so I just agree. "Ready?" She asks, and I nod, "One, two, three!" Bang! Both our shoulders hit the wood simultaneously, and I swear it moves this time but only slightly. "Again!"
