Kadeem

It had all started after Kadeem’s accident. Or so he had to believe as he couldn’t remember anything before he’d woken up in the hospital, panicked as he stared around at the white-washed room.

When the doctor had eventually shown up, they’d all quickly discovered that Kadeem had lost his memories and only had pieces of his past to draw from. However, it was all unclear and confusing - as were the dreams that started to come to him since that day.

The dreams were always distorted, vague as they visited him each night. Most of the time, he stood in darkness, hearing the cries of a woman and multiple babies, but he could never see their faces. And he could never find them even as he ran through the blackness.

However, a tightness would grow in his chest as he ran, and stay with him when he woke up. There was a pain and longing that would stay with him for hours and he never knew why.

That’s why he’d sought out a hypnotist, soon leading him to meet Mateo. Despite calling upon

Kadeem “What’s going on?” Mateo asked, studying Kadeem closely. “A mother,” Kadeem said aloud that time, his head spinning as he tried to steady his thoughts. “A wife…” His wife? “What are you saying?” Mateo asked next. “I don’t know…” Kadeem admitted, shaking his head. But then he looked toward the man. His lips pressed firmly together as determination slowly met his eyes. “But maybe I’m close to figuring it out,” he stated. Following his words, Mateo’s eyes began to widen in wonder, but Kadeem dismissed his forming questions as he placed a quick hand on his friend’s shoulder. “Thank you, Mateo,” he said before rushing away. He left the man in a cloud of confusion as he stormed out the door. From there, Kadeem couldn’t be stopped. He sped out of the office building, light on his feet as he went to his car. He then immediately slipped inside, starting the engine just as he called the fitness club. “I need the address of Chelsea,” he stated once a wolf answered. “Quickly.” He

ArdalI scowl as I watch Kadeem walk away, still in disbelief that he actually had the nerve to come here. How had he found me, anyway? I hadn’t listed my address on my employee form, and I never mentioned it to anyone else. But an Alpha always finds his ways, doesn’t he?Eyes still burning on Kadeem’s back, I don’t dare pull my stare away until I can guarantee he’s gone. I want him as far away from me and my babies as possible - thanking the Goddess that none of them had come to poke their heads out in curiosity.I know he didn’t buy my words about raising monkeys for a circus - it was just a sarcastic jab, anyway. But still, I can’t let him find out about them, especially that they’re his. That’s out of the question.I continue to watch Kadeem, counting the seconds as he draws further away. Like I said, I won’t go inside until I see him climb into his car or at least disappear around the corner. However, my skin warms as I watch Kadeem suddenly pause in the street, fearing he’s plan

ArdalNo, no, no. Not like this.He is not dying like this.I’m panting as my fingers firm on his shirt, wanting to violently shake him so he opens his eyes. Only, I know it won’t do me any good. I need to get air back in his lungs, make his heart beat again.Gulping down breaths of panic, my hands move over him again, adjusting to a new position at his sternum. I’ve never performed CPR on someone before, but I’ve had enough training throughout the years - for the sake of my job and the babies.100 to 120 compressions a minute, I state in my mind.Brows furrowed and teeth pressed tight, I bring my weight down on Kadeem as I compress and then bounce back up. I repeat the action over and over, counting in my head as water drips from my clothes.97, 98, 99…I don’t let up. I make sure every push of my hands is as equally firm as the last. If I lose any sense of pressure, make one mistake then it could cost Kadeem his life. That thought only adds to my desperation, keeping my body control

ErbaoClutching the binoculars in his small hands, Erbao stared out the window toward the lake’s bank as his brothers and sister bumped him in the shoulders.“What’s happening?”“I want to see.”“Mommy is saving daddy,” Erbao reported, cutting off the whines of his siblings. However, his eyes then grew wide as he watched what happened next.Daddy woke up, his lips pressed into mommy’s as she didn’t stop him, and then daddy pulled her onto his lap. “They’re kissing!” He announced, a thrill shooting through his bones.“Gimme!” Lottie demanded, eager to see her parents reunite. She then snatched the binoculars from her brother, pointing them out the window so she could get a look. Within seconds, a gasp flew from her lips.“They are kissing!” She confirmed.“I saw everything!” Erbao declared. “I think daddy pretended to be sleeping so mommy would kiss him awake.”“Daddy is so smart!” Milo replied. All at once, the babies began to bounce on their feet, overcome with excitement over this

ArdalA workout is just what I need after everything that happened with Kadeem. With the babies safely in bed for the night and Hannah looking after them, I figure I should make use of my time at the gym. Maybe I can even imagine the punching bag is Kadeem’s face.I still can’t believe him. I know that he can be cunning and wicked, but this has reached a whole new level. I never could have imagined he’d kiss me like that and show no remorse. He has a girlfriend. He has a child on the way.And he threw away what we had years ago. How can he just suddenly have a change of heart?Because he doesn’t know who you are, I think as I walk into the private training room. I sigh as I toss down my bag, opening it up to get out my gloves. It’s true. It has to be true. Kadeem hasn’t asked me any questions, showed any hints that he suspects I’m Ardal.Although, that still doesn’t explain why he decided to kiss me in the first place. Or why he’d be willing to kiss me despite his relationship with Su

ErbaoSitting on Milo’s bed, the babies stared down at the pages they had spread out over the comforter, trying to make sense of it all. They’d realized their daddy’s agency had sent over some paperwork with their offer email, which had to be signed and completed before the shoot the following day. After secretly printing everything off, the babies had dashed back into their room - pretending to be asleep as they’d gotten to work.“My brain hurts,” Lottie complained, falling back on the mattress. “I’m tired of reading these big words. They don’t make sense.”It was true - there were a lot of words in the contract they didn’t understand. They’d already spent ten minutes whispering about why the paperwork had included the word lawyer - not understanding why they might need one. However, they eventually dismissed the matter before moving onto another section.“We’re almost done,” Ezra stated, his finger scanning down the page. Only, as he reached the bottom, he paused.“Erbao,” the oldes

KadeemThere was already a hint of a smile on his lips as Kadeem walked into the studio. He heard the children’s eager voices before he saw them. They were all over the place, freely running around the set as multiple members of the crew chased after them.Kadeem came to a stop, his hands resting on his hips as he took in the scene again. He swore he was about to laugh as one of the little boys began to jump on the bed and then leapt as soon as a woman tried to grab them. Watching the clever escape made something warm pull at Kadeem’s heart.Figuring he should put his team out of their misery, the Alpha suddenly cleared his throat.“Excuse me,” he began, his deep voice having an immediate effect. The whole room seemed to come to a standstill, everyone’s head snapping in his direction. The instant relief that ran over his crew's faces didn’t go unmissed.Nor did the happiness that flashed over the little girl’s face as she dashed toward him. Kadeem wasn’t sure what came over him, but t

KadeemDespite Sam’s warnings, Kadeem didn’t ‘ease up.’ He spent the rest of the day at the studio, forgetting all about his intentions to go to the gym as he watched the babies work their magic. They were perfect saints, listening to every request to his team without fail. Once the day’s filming was over, Kadeem stayed true to his word and gladly handed them over his pocket watch. And the next day, Kadeem was one of the first people to arrive at the studio. Only, that time he brought along a few gifts. He couldn’t help but notice how each baby showed interest in different matters, leading him to give one boy a few books, the other some sweets, and the girl a couple of expensive and beautiful dolls. The children were beyond themselves as they received their presents - the girl immediately tugging on his arm and asking him to open one of her dolls. Kadeem wore a smile as he tore the box open, soon handing the doll back to her. She hugged it tightly, offering out sweet “thank yous.”Kad

Shitty, shit, shit!Kadeem quietly gauges my reaction.“Kadeem,” I begin, not wanting to hurt him, but panicky all the same, “Could we just - pretend you didn’t give me this?” It comes out in the vein of an anxious Western villain. Walk away slowly, and no one gets hurt.“Suit yourself.” He goes back to working on his computer. “But you might like what you see in there,” he adds.I run my fingers over the soft, velvety surface of the box. My voice comes out high-pitched as I try to change the subject. “Are you getting nervous about your surgery?”“No.”“Really?”“It doesn’t ruffle my feathers,” Kadeem mumbles, half-distracted. He pauses. “Erbao’s surgery on the other hand…”My stomach knots at the thought of it. “Me too. But for both of you.”“It’ll all be worth it,” he says, looking up to smile.Seeing Erbao healthy will be worth it. Outside of Kadeem's health club, his security guard, Nora, is aggressively confronting someone. As expected. She shoots me her usual scowl when I pass by, but I don't acknowledge it, and simply yank the door open to go inside. I told Kadeem to fire her, but he doesn’t listen.I’m not giving up, though.I head over to the check-in area where my main rival, Rory, is lazily answering a phone call. A pile of white gym towels on the counter behind him is waiting to be folded. My left arm is braced across my chest in a sling and cast, but I make sure to lean my good arm casually on the counter like I own the place. Because, let’s face it, I pretty much do."I'm here to see Kadeem," I announce, adding a sarcastic, "Is that alright with you?"Rory gives me an icy glare before turning his attention back to his call. I drum my fingers on the counter and flash him an innocent smile before walking away."Yes, sir," he mumbles into the phone, before whispering a snide, "If he wants you around.""H

Orange and yellow leaves dot the sidewalk outside of the pack headquarters where I huddle with the kids as we prepare for our next move. Despite the chill in the air, beads of sweat are dripping down the back of my neck. Thanks to Jack’s magic and a shit ton of luck, we left Sasha, Gabe, and the rest of our captors unconscious and tied up in Kadeem’s cabin. Jack stayed behind to help Riley before setting out to slay his mother. Talk about an Electra complex.I take a moment to catch my breath when the sounds of a growing commotion come from the Council building. Without warning, Erbao bolts off, charging up the concrete steps, his eyes blazing with determination.“HEY!” I belt out. Bob could have dozens of henchmen stationed inside. Worse, he could have already seized control of Red Moon.Erbao ignores me and his siblings rush after him. My heart is a race car, but my legs are still Jello from wolfsbane. All I can do is stumble after them as they burst through the doors of the crowded

The pack headquarters was in an ordinary brick building, tucked away right in the heart of the city. The activity was minimal, except for nights when the council met - usually on the full moon. Even then, it was never bustling. It was a seat of immense power, but it looked an awful lot like a local Elk’s Club.Today was different.Pack members, raw with emotion, gathered like storm clouds at the downtown HQ. As dawn broke, Council Elders fought to maintain control of the room, elbow-to-elbow with Weres demanding answers. The vampire attack had come without warning, had been brutal and swift. The enemy was fueled with a devastating strength, leaving many injuries and fatalities.Amidst all of the chaos, one question loomed over them all: Where was their Alpha? It was into this pressure cooker that Kadeem allowed himself to be dragged in by Bob.The room erupted at the sight of him. Even the stoic Council gasped in shock. Bob was barreling in Kadeem with a ruthless force - leather boots

ArdalJust like that, our goodbye is cut. I slump against the couch, head in my hands."I'm sorry," Jack says.I lift my head to shoot him a fiery glare. The first rays of sun are lighting the windows. Around us, the quintuplets are Energizer bunnies- getting cranky, maybe, but still going. I'm scraping by on their fumes and my emotional torment.Guilt is splashed across Jack's face. What am I actually seeing?I scrutinize him, hard. The emotion looks utterly real. For a second I am so disgusted, it renders me speechless."You’re pathological," I spit out.He flinches at my words. I picture myself wolfing out and tearing him to bits.Well, it’s a split between that, and throwing myself into his arms to melt into him. Inexplicably, my confusing feelings for him will not die. It only makes me hate him- and myself- more. My hands ball into fists and I battle the urge to scream.Sasha pockets her phone. Next to Jack, Lottie and Milo fight over the box of cookies."Sit tight for now," Sash

The stage is set.I've got to hand it to Bob, he's built a well-oiled network of evil and orchestrated his plan perfectly.Kadeem will be taken in front of the Council elders. He'll be blamed for everything from Susan's death to the vampire attack. Bob will get to play the hero and declare himself the rightful Alpha. Kadeem will be killed. It's everything Bob hoped for.His henchmen arrive in the darkness to haul off me, Jack, and Riley. Jack is coming to, Riley's still holding on, and I'm less noodle-like, but I fake incapacity, forcing one of them to lift me from the ground and half-carry me, supporting my weight. My last glimpse of Kadeem is as weighty as you would imagine. There's no fear in his eyes, though. I'm starting to feel hints of my inner wolf again and the emotional link between us. What I pick up from him is exactly what he's projecting outwards: calm.It sets me off. Where's the anger?! The steely determination?! The whirling thoughts as he plans a way out of things?!

Kadeem's eyes flash like lightning. The wind picks up, stirring the night air and whipping up a swirl of leaves. On the ground nearby, Susan's tresses blow gently across her face, still staring lifelessly into the darkness ahead."Guess you've got it all figured out," Kadeem says quietly, almost eerily calm. His gaze shifts to Riley, who's lying unconscious on a bed of leaves. "But you forgot her.""Collateral damage," Bob shrugs. "I was planning on having her killed anyway. No way I can trust her."A low growl rumbles from Kadeem's throat. "No deal, then."Bob laughs. "If you think you have any kind of leverage over me, you're sadly mistaken. I've got more than enough to ensure your compliance, including your sweetie over there." He gestures lazily in my direction as he approaches Riley, still hovering somewhere between life and death."I'll give her a warrior's end," he says, staring down at her. "The Council will believe she died trying to stop you, trying to protect the pack."Nex

Kadeem glares at Bob. “Cooperate?" he spats. "You should know me better than that."Kadeem is on the ground, his weight supported by a tree. Exhaustion is etched into his sweat-covered face and the blood from his shoulder has seeped into the fabric of his shirt, staining it bright red.Nearby, Jack's sole focus is on the medical emergency in front of him. He's been working quickly to keep Kadeem's beta alive, turning her onto her side, holding pressure against her stab wound and checking her pulse.Increasingly drowsy, the sound of Bob chuckling in response to Kadeem is faint in my ears. Susan yanks me by my wrists and begins to drag me along the damp ground, limping as she goes. Before my eyes grow too heavy, I glimpse the deep bites around her right shin and calf."If you hurt her-"I'm too weak to take advantage of her injury and I don't resist. "One wrong move and you're dead, got it?"Rayburn's voice rose as he responded fiercely, "Perhaps at some point you'll realize I haven't done anything wrong and I'm not going-"Kadeem whipped around to interrupt him with an icy growl. They were on the brink of reaching Ardal, and Riley had made a dangerous gamble by freeing Rayburn.Kadeem could only hope it wouldn't backfire on them.He knew Riley well enough to guess her thought process. Intimidation was part of the game, and Kadeem showing up with his distracted beta tagging after him while she juggled a captive was no good. Riley wanted it made clear that Kadeem had back-up, and she needed to give herself the chance to fight by his side when it boiled down to it.But Kadeem also knew the reality of their situation. Now, there was nothing to prevent Rayburn from using the spell that had knocked them unconscious in the woods, killing them, or worse: going after Ardal or the kids. What were the o
