Kadeem

Despite Sam’s warnings, Kadeem didn’t ‘ease up.’ He spent the rest of the day at the studio, forgetting all about his intentions to go to the gym as he watched the babies work their magic.

They were perfect saints, listening to every request to his team without fail. Once the day’s filming was over, Kadeem stayed true to his word and gladly handed them over his pocket watch.

And the next day, Kadeem was one of the first people to arrive at the studio. Only, that time he brought along a few gifts. He couldn’t help but notice how each baby showed interest in different matters, leading him to give one boy a few books, the other some sweets, and the girl a couple of expensive and beautiful dolls.

The children were beyond themselves as they received their presents - the girl immediately tugging on his arm and asking him to open one of her dolls. Kadeem wore a smile as he tore the box open, soon handing the doll back to her. She hugged it tightly, offering out sweet “thank yous.”

ErbaoFeeling better, Erbao decided to join his siblings on set that day. He was growing tired of seeing the other babies’ excitement and hearing stories about his father - he wanted to see him again. Plus, his siblings had said that daddy had been asking them a lot of questions lately - Erbao wanted to make sure none of them let anything accidentally slip.Only, as the four arrived at the studio, frowns were spread across their faces as they discovered their daddy wasn’t there. Apparently, he was going to be out for the day because he had other business to handle, leaving Erbao feeling disappointed.“Maybe we should mess around again,” Lottie commented, tugging at her brother’s sleeve. “Then daddy will come help.”But Erbao shook his head.“No,” he replied. “It’s not worth it.” He’d just have to find another way to see his father again.“Be on your best behavior,” Erbao stated then, lifting his head and giving a nod. “We should make daddy proud while he’s gone.”Taking that in stride

Kadeem“Kadeem.”Hearing the familiar voice behind him, Kadeem swiveled in his chair, his eyes soon falling on the woman he’d expected to find.“Hello, grandma,” he drew out, watching as the woman smoothly walked into the room. However, she soon stopped, giving him a quirk of her brow.“Aren’t you going to offer me a seat?” she questioned. “You know…that’s what your son did this afternoon when he saw me hobbling around. I see he has better manners than you do.”Kadeem resisted the urge to shudder at his grandmother’s words - the word “son” slithering under his skin. However, his gaze instead became more fixed on her features.“Please, sit,” he murmured out slowly just before the woman took the seat across from him. The moment she gave him a knowing smirk, he continued.“I know all about the little stunt you pulled,” Kadeem informed her. “Sam showed me the tapes.”“Well, I just wanted to meet my grandchildren for myself,” she announced without a hint of remorse. Again, her words made h

ArdalI can’t stop fidgeting. I’m not pacing anymore, but my fingers still twitch at my sides or mindlessly brushing escaped hairs out my face every few seconds.I’m supposed to be meeting with Kadeem for another training session. It’s the first time I’ll see him since the incident at the studio or after I made the call to Merrick. I have no idea what to expect, but I know I need to appear perfectly normal so Kadeem doesn’t somehow get suspicious.Taking a deep breath, I straighten my arms at my sides, contemplating if I should do some stretching. However, my shoulders are soon jumping as I hear the door to the training room open.I sense him immediately - my body perfectly aware of his every move despite my back being turned to him. Slowly, I swivel, my eyes locking on Kadeem just as he comes to a stop. He stands at least ten feet away, his arms crossing over his chest.“Hair up, gloves on,” he orders before he nods toward the ring. “Let’s go.”Brows beginning to pull together, Kadee

ArdalWe hit the water in a heap, the impact of our bodies sending a splash upward. As I go under the surface, Kadeem’s hand leaves my wrist, but that doesn’t mean we’re no longer touching. No, instead our legs tangle and then untangle, our hips brush, our hands bump each other's stomachs. Our limbs inevitably connect as we try to correct ourselves, but - while me touching him is purely accidental - I’m not sure I can say the same thing for Kadeem. After ten seconds of our little dance, my skin is left burning despite the cold water that surrounds us. I finally manage to gain space between us, allowing me to shoot up and break through the surface once more.“You’re an asshole,” I tell Kadeem when he pops up too. I’m panting a little, but I’m still able to give him a firm glare. But Kadeem doesn’t care for my disapproval. Instead, he eats it up as he usually does.“What?” he asks. “You slipped.”My annoyed gaze only hardens on him, my arms tempted to send a big splash toward his face.

KadeemKadeem’s words lingered in the air, more words seemed to be caught in his throat as he stared at Chelsea’s soaked state. They were still holding onto each other, and she was holding on to his words, waiting for him to continue.Only, Kadeem was met with a very rare feeling - uncertainty. He wasn’t exactly sure how to proceed. He knew that Chelsea could have swam back up to the top without any issues, but the moment he’d seen her go under…he’d just reacted.Even if deep down he knew she wasn’t in danger, he still needed to ensure she was safe. Finally, Kadeem released a breath, finishing his response.“I know,” he stated.Kadeem continued to stare at her, watching as something flashed through her eyes. A soft breath came over her eyes. Now it was his turn to wait for her response, yearning for it. But she disappointed him as he already felt her slide from his grip.“I should go,” she stated blankly. “We’re done for today.”~Kadeem wasn’t even remotely close to done with Chelsea

KadeemThe following morning, Kadeem returned to the set for their last day of shooting. Straight away, he saw the kids dressed and ready to start as they all enjoyed a little snack. He made sure to go over and give them plenty of attention, earning him giggles and smiles from them all. When they were called to set though, each of them gave him a firm hug, causing an upward tug on his lips. He knew people were staring, but he didn’t care. With every passing second, he was becoming more convinced that these were his children. An Alpha’s intuition was hardly ever wrong, and he knew he had to be right about this. One way or another, these babies were his.It was more than just the resemblance now. It was their undeniable draw to one another - even his grandmother had confirmed that there was something special. Kadeem had to take that as a sign pointed in his favor. However, he was also expecting the call from the lab that day. The possibility made him restless as he often checked his ph

Kadeem“Kadeem.”It didn’t make sense. Something had to be wrong.Kadeem couldn’t shake the feeling as he sat in the editing room with his team, watching the faces of the babies play over and over. Their little smiles haunted him as he just heard Merrick’s voice over and over.“They share no relation to you.”It didn’t make sense. “Kadeem.”“What?” The Alpha snapped, glaring at the man - Erik - next to him as he practically bared his teeth. In turn, Erik blinked, his shoulders raising as he offered an apologetic look.“I was asking…if you liked this edit?” Erik asked sheepishly.Kadeem huffed in response, surprised not to see steam exciting his nose. He then clipped his gaze forward, watching the few seconds Erik had pieced together. Again, Kadeem was lost in the babies’ faces.“If there’s something wrong with it then -” Erik tried, noticing Kadeem’s empty stare.“It’s fine,” the Alpha threw back, wanting to grind his teeth together. He could see Erik give a quick nod at his side as

Ardal“Hey, Chelsea,” the front desk attendant, Hunter, says as I pass through the front door of the gym. “You’re in early.”I nod as I swipe my badge. “I’ve got a session with a client this morning,” I tell him with a shrug and smile. “I just wanted to come in and set up.”Hunter smiles back, and it’s admittedly rather charming. He’s got nice teeth, cute dimples in his cheeks. If anything, it’s a smile that should send a girl to her knees, but mine remain strong beneath me.Maybe in another life, I’d play into Hunter’s small advances and offer a flirt of my own. However, I know that messing around with Kadeem’s staff is the last thing I want to get tangled up in. So I offer a harmless wink as I continue forward to the main floor of the gym.“Have a good day!” Hunter calls behind me as I head toward the women’s locker room.Once my belongings are stored away, I head back out and realize just how empty the gym is this morning. Usually, we have a pretty committed morning crowd filling n

Walk away slowly, and no one gets hurt.“Suit yourself.” He goes back to working on his computer. “But you might like what you see in there,” he adds.I run my fingers over the soft, velvety surface of the box. My voice comes out high-pitched as I try to change the subject. “Are you getting nervous about your surgery?”“No.”“Really?”“It doesn’t ruffle my feathers,” Kadeem mumbles, half-distracted. He pauses. “Erbao’s surgery on the other hand…”My stomach knots at the thought of it. “Me too. But for both of you.”“It’ll all be worth it,” he says, looking up to smile.Seeing Erbao healthy will be worth it. I told Kadeem to fire her, but he doesn’t listen.I’m not giving up, though.I head over to the check-in area where my main rival, Rory, is lazily answering a phone call. A pile of white gym towels on the counter behind him is waiting to be folded. My left arm is braced across my chest in a sling and cast, but I make sure to lean my good arm casually on the counter like I own the place. Because, let’s face it, I pretty much do."I'm here to see Kadeem," I announce, adding a sarcastic, "Is that alright with you?"Rory gives me an icy glare before turning his attention back to his call. I drum my fingers on the counter and flash him an innocent smile before walking away."Yes, sir," he mumbles into the phone, before whispering a snide, "If he wants you around.""H

Orange and yellow leaves dot the sidewalk outside of the pack headquarters where I huddle with the kids as we prepare for our next move. Despite the chill in the air, beads of sweat are dripping down the back of my neck. Thanks to Jack’s magic and a shit ton of luck, we left Sasha, Gabe, and the rest of our captors unconscious and tied up in Kadeem’s cabin. The pack headquarters was in an ordinary brick building, tucked away right in the heart of the city. The activity was minimal, except for nights when the council met - usually on the full moon. Even then, it was never bustling. It was a seat of immense power, but it looked an awful lot like a local Elk’s Club.Today was different.Pack members, raw with emotion, gathered like storm clouds at the downtown HQ. As dawn broke, Council Elders fought to maintain control of the room, elbow-to-elbow with Weres demanding answers. The vampire attack had come without warning, had been brutal and swift. The enemy was fueled with a devastating strength, leaving many injuries and fatalities.Amidst all of the chaos, one question loomed over them all: Where was their Alpha? It was into this pressure cooker that Kadeem allowed himself to be dragged in by Bob.The room erupted at the sight of him. Even the stoic Council gasped in shock. Bob was barreling in Kadeem with a ruthless force - leather boots

The stage is set.I've got to hand it to Bob, he's built a well-oiled network of evil and orchestrated his plan perfectly.Kadeem will be taken in front of the Council elders. He'll be blamed for everything from Susan's death to the vampire attack. Bob will get to play the hero and declare himself the rightful Alpha. Kadeem will be killed. It's everything Bob hoped for.His henchmen arrive in the darkness to haul off me, Jack, and Riley. Jack is coming to, Riley's still holding on, and I'm less noodle-like, but I fake incapacity, forcing one of them to lift me from the ground and half-carry me, supporting my weight. My last glimpse of Kadeem is as weighty as you would imagine. There's no fear in his eyes, though. I'm starting to feel hints of my inner wolf again and the emotional link between us. What I pick up from him is exactly what he's projecting outwards: calm.It sets me off. Where's the anger?! The steely determination?! The whirling thoughts as he plans a way out of things?!

His gaze shifts to Riley, who's lying unconscious on a bed of leaves. "But you forgot her.""Collateral damage," Bob shrugs. "I was planning on having her killed anyway. No way I can trust her."A low growl rumbles from Kadeem's throat. "No deal, then."Bob laughs. "If you think you have any kind of leverage over me, you're sadly mistaken. I've got more than enough to ensure your compliance, including your sweetie over there." He gestures lazily in my direction as he approaches Riley, still hovering somewhere between life and death."I'll give her a warrior's end," he says, staring down at her. "The Council will believe she died trying to stop you, trying to protect the pack."Nex
