PART I.
“Tell us that story again, Grandma Cat!” Thirteen-year-old Lily shouted excited as she sat down on the floor and looked up with wide eyes at Catherine Langston, who is sitting comfortably on her old, stuffed chair with a warm blanket over her lap. “The one about that wolfless girl! Is she still alive?!”
It was around three in the afternoon of a windy Saturday and Catherine will do her usual routine by making a cup of tea for herself and sit by the fireplace for some little peace quiet. But, today, she was warmly troubled by her grandson together with the McAllister twins. Liam, his best friend since childhood and his ever-chatty twin sister, Lily.
“Geez, Lily, do you really believe that nonsense?” Her twin brother, Liam asked as he rolled his eyes at her. He took his place beside his best friend and Catherine’s grandson, Clayton Langston and reached for the bowl of chips. “That’s not real! It’s only a story!”
Lily turned to glare at him before looking back at the older woman.
“But, it’s a great story! Isn’t it, Grandma?” Lily continued with a huge smile. “Will she have any powers when she will meet her mate? Will her wolf appear because of him?”
“Oh, great!” Liam groaned. “She’s saying those icky stuffs again! Girls!”
“Just wait until you add a few more years, Liam,” Catherine said with an amused smile. “You might be in for a surprise. Lily just might be the one saying that to you.”
Liam looked at Grandma Cat and shook his head firmly.
“Not me, Grandma!” He said firmly. “Once I have my wolf, I will never let him fall in love with someone! We’re going to travel around the world like I always dreamed of!”
“Mom will not let you!” Lily pointed out. She then turned to Clayton, who is sitting down quietly. “Tell him, Clayton. Tell him that our mom will not allow him because he’s going to become a warrior like you when you grow up!”
Clayton only shrugged in response.
“Hmph!” Lily grumbled. “Boys!”
She then turned her attention back to Grandma Cat. “Can you say that thing again, grandma?” She asked earnestly. “The one on how she came to be?”
Catherine smiled down at her, amused by her eagerness.
“It goes like this, Lily. You listen carefully,” she answered gently. “A wolf less child from an ancient royal bloodline, will be born under a clear midnight sky & the full moon, on the sixteenth day of the seventh month.”
Lily hanged on intently to the words the older woman is saying, gripping her hands tightly as she repeated what is being said, nodding when Catherine will smile at her accomplishment.
“Hardships she will bring from her existence, until she will come face to face with her destined Mate,” Catherine continued softly. She paused for a while before letting out a wistful smile. “Only then, will change her course of fate!”
“It’s kind of romantic, isn’t it, Grandma?” Lily gushed softly. She had a dreamy expression on her face. “I hope whoever that wolfless girl is, she will get to have the fate that she deserves.”
“Why do you say that, Lily?” Catherine asked softly.
“Don’t we always want something that we deserve in our lives?” Lily responded back with a question as she smiled up at her. “I only wish her well. I’m sure it’s not going to be easy once each of us will go through our transformation. We will get to know our wolf and have to get along with them. We get to have someone with us. But, for that girl? I can’t even begin to imagine how someone can have no wolf!”
“Is there anyone you know who had no wolf, grandma?” She then asked intently.
Catherine stared down at her for a while. She knew that Lily has always been inquisitive. She also knew that she’s going to become one great werewoman when the time comes.
“Yes. I knew a few back in my younger days,” she finally answered.
“What happened to them?” Clayton suddenly asked.
“They either have been banished from their packs or their Alpha and Luna will decide to let them stay and protect them,” Catherine answered softly.
“Do we have one here?” Lily asked.
“Not that I know of, dear,” Catherine replied gently. She took a drink from her cup before putting it back on the saucer gently. “The Night Howlers Pack have so far been negative for any wolfless member. There were some who married non-wolf partners, but they still produced children with their own wolf.”
It was over an hour later when Clayton and Liam are walking around the grounds and discussing about those with no wolves in their being.
“By the way, is Conrad ready for his transformation come this full moon?” Liam asked. “I’ve been seeing him trained hard over these past weeks. Beta Eric is not giving him any room for error as the next Alpha of our pack.”
“I’m sure he is ready,” Clayton replied firmly. “Father always keeps reminding him the duties and responsibilities he will take once he becomes the Alpha.”
Liam looked at him uneasily. He looked around the grounds before staring back at his friend and opening his mouth to speak.
“Is he going to follow them, Clayton? The duties and responsibilities?” He asked in a low voice. “I overheard my father talked with Alpha Theo that Conrad is the wrong choice to succeed him. He said that it’s going to be better if it will be you. He said that Conrad is arrogant and will be merciless when he becomes the Alpha.”
“He had never shown any compassion during the tragedy our pack has went through three years ago,” Liam added calmly. “You knew where he was. He never gave it much thought because it does not involved his well-being.”
Clayton shook his head.
“My brother will adhere to the duties and responsibilities once he becomes Alpha. It is instilled in the family for generations,” he insisted seriously. “That’s going to make him the Alpha he is destined to be.”
Eight years later…All members gathered, crowding the open grounds as The Night Howlers Pack waited with anticipation for the new alpha to be proclaimed. Despite the excitement they all felt for the new generation to take over, they were also sad to see Alpha Theodore Langston stepped down from the position.Alpha Theo, as he was fondly and respectfully called by his members, has ruled the pack for the last forty years with fairness and compassion. He always made sure that his pack members always come first. They could not forget the tragedy that had happened to them eleven years ago where he had shown the real leader that he is and had earned everyone’s admiration and respect.Their ever-growing pack was mercilessly attacked by The Rebel Rogues, a known notorious pack from the West under the command of its alpha, Ian Fullerton. They looted all their resources, destroyed their structures, killed their best warriors and some had even raped t
“Alpha!” Clayton turned when he heard him being addressed. He frowned when he saw Lily McAllister, his Beta and best friend’s fraternal twin, running towards him anxiously with a look of concern on her pretty face. She never calls him Alpha, and he made sure of that since he considered her as one of his closest and trusted friends. The fact that she suddenly addressed him that only meant that something serious has happened. It has been over three months since he took over as Alpha. And as what he had promised his pack, he served them with all that he has. He made sure that their welfare always comes first. He judges any conflict with fairness and always made sure that he is available for any emergencies. Over the short course of his leadership, he had also started intensive training for his warriors. Under the leadership of his Delta, Jacob, he had started a thorough and extensive training for defense from any attacks and for combat. It received a hug
Heavy rain poured down mercilessly as well as thunderous claps from the thick gray clouds above sounded, replicating the atmosphere now at The Night Howlers territory. The five days of mourning have been completed for their great grand Luna. The pack members had all gathered at the burning site for the last ritual for the dead and watched with mournful eyes as Clayton walked towards the body of his grandmother, who is placed on a high constructed branches of twigs with a white cloth covering her entire body except for her face and clasped hands that are on top of her stomach. All alphas and lunas of the allies they had made over the years attended the last rite, giving their last respect to the woman, who they cherished and treasured. Even the Lycan King, himself, King Atticus the Fourth, and his family came and the sorrow on his face could not be hidden. He had considered Catherine as one of his closest friends back when they were still young.White flowers wer
Five years later... It was a late, dark, and foggy Wednesday night. The heavy rain that started in the afternoon has finally subsided but that didn’t stop the cold from enveloping the atmosphere. The streets are nearly empty and from time to time, a car will pass by, splashing water on the puddles that they will be driving over. Clattering sounds of tin cans dropping on the ground can be heard as several cats were fighting over food that they had scavenged from the garbage bins located in the alleyway. Twenty-year-old Amarah Saville wrapped her wool scarf around her neck and put on her gloves, to protect herself from the cold after closing the door of the clinic, where she works as an assistant. She was about to walk towards the direction of where she lives, which takes around twenty minutes, but stop when she heard her phone ringing in her jacket pocket. “Matt, I just closed off and will be there in fifteen minutes. Glo has all the details o
Clayton, now twenty-six years old opened his eyes but immediately shut them after being blinded by an intense lighting shone above him. He moved his head to the side to try eliminating the illumination. He tried raising his one arm to shield his eyes but felt it heavy and immobile now. He was attacked, taken by surprise by a trap that he knew his brother had set up. Ever since he had overtaken him and became the alpha of their pack, Conrad had never forgiven him for taking what he thinks was rightfully his. It had finally confirmed Clayton’s suspicions that his brother had pledged his allegiance to their father’s old nemesis, Ian Fullerton, alpha of The Rebel Rogues. Clayton was on a mission on a source that he got with regards to the last wishes that his grandmother had told him. It has been five years since her death, but up to this day, he had managed to only accomplish one. But, only a bare minimum. With Lily’s research and help, she finally discovered th
Alpha Ian Fullerton of The Rebel Rogues, looked up from his desk when he heard a knock on the door of his office. He ordered the one knocking on the door to come in and he saw that it was his beta, Anthony Madison. Anthony is a tall, muscular-built guy with dark hair and dark eyes. He has a scar on his face, running from the bottom of his right eye down to his chin. He looks formidable alone with that look and he had used it to his advantage. “Langston has just returned,” Anthony informed after he closed the door. “He’s waiting outside and wants to speak to you.” Ian leaned back on his chair, clasping his hands in deep thought. “How is he?” “He’s still hungry for power,” Anthony answered seriously. “The disgrace and banishment that he received from his pack seems to be the one fueling his drive for it. If I was on his shoes, I would rather be killed than having that trademark for the rest of my life.” “That’s why I still don’t understa
Clayton could not remember how long he was asleep or unconscious the moment that whatever was administered to his body took over and lose the fight for control of trying to stay alert. But, now that he had regained his consciousness, he felt his strength returning and he can finally move his hands and feet without feeling heavy. He tried rising but he can still feel his body aching from the attack. Finally giving up, Clayton remained lying on the bed he is on and let the medicine do its work in his body so he can be able to recover and heal fast.He needs to return to his pack.He finally was able to open his eyes and he realized that he is inside of what look like a small hospital room. There’s a counter with a sink to his right and some medical accessories that will be needed for any dressing of wounds. There’s also a small basin and a sponge beside some toiletries.Could not be able to sit up, Clayton raised his arms to check on the injurie
“Hey, let me out of here!”The minute Clayton was conscious again, he started struggling from the handcuffs that was placed around both of his wrists and tied to the bed railings. He tried to break from him, using his strength but somehow, he could not. He started shouting from his room but there wasn’t anyone who came to check on him.“Hello?! I’m f8cking sure that you can hear me out there!! Get me out of here, you f8cking as$holes!” He shouted angrily. “I demand that you release me immediately or you will suffer the consequences!”He tried transforming into Kragen but could not even do it.He even tried linking with Liam, but somehow, whatever that was injected in him prevented him from doing that as well. Clayton cursed loudly so that he could be heard.“It’s best you conserve your strength,” an amused and dry voice finally replied. “The sedative is still in your system. Tr
Three years later… Clayton watched anxiously as Amarah breathed in and out as she is clutching his hand tightly on a very early Thursday morning in their room, at his house. He watched as she closed her eyes and tried to control the pain that she is going through right now. “Oh, God, that’s worst,” Amarah finally stated. “You also said the last one was worst,” Clayton countered as he wiped the beads of perspiration on her forehead. “Are you just trying to pacify me? It’s not working, I’m telling you that.” “You’re the one who put this on me,” Amarah teased him with a smile. Clayton stared at her dumbfoundedly. “Amarah, if I knew that I will be going through this as well, I would have waited a little bit more before putting that child in you,” he argued lightly. “I am not ready to go through this process.” That earned a laugh from Matt, who is sitting on one side of the room and patiently monitoring Amarah’s condition. Clayton gave him a good glare. He turned back to his wife, w
“Open your eyes, Amarah.”Amarah opened her eyes and turned towards the voice. She slowly sat up and came face to face with the most beautiful woman she had ever seen in her life. The woman looking back at her has long and thick blond hair that is way past her waist. She had clear and bright honey-gold eyes that are currently staring at her lovingly that goes perfectly well with her beautiful face. A long and pointed nose, round firm cheeks and full rosy lips. She is wearing a glittery silver floor length dress and there is something about her that made Amarah realized who she is staring at.“Oh my goodness!” Amarah exclaimed and she immediately got down on one knee on the floor and placed a fist on her heart. “My apologies for not recognizing you immediately, Goddess Selene.”“You did good, my child,” Selene said.Amarah raised her face towards her when the goddess cupped her chin. She smiled sadly. “I could have done more,” she answered softly. “But I guess I overexerted myself that
Clayton with thick tears in his eyes stood, clenching his fists tightly and watched as the fire slowly crawled up and make its way to Amarah, immediately surrounding her body. He breathed out heavily and felt his mother’s hand on his back, gently comforting him.I love you, my Amarah, he thought in his mind intently.Slowly, as if his own feet have their own brain, he took steps towards the platform until he is only a few feet away. His mother followed behind him and stayed behind his back as the heat being emitted from the fire increases. As the fire started to crawl over her body, he felt a strong gust of wind blowing at them. His mother hugged his arm and buried her face in his back until it subsided. He turned to make sure that she is okay before looking back at the fire.Another gust of wind strongly passed by and it passed directly through the fire.“What the heck -?!” He heard Gabriel from behind exclaimed. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, a strong and blinding light shot down
Gabriel, with his hands inside the pockets of his jacket stared down quietly and intently at Catherine’s tomb. His eyes wandered towards the words written on her white, marble epitaph and he gripped his fists tightly. “Life is not Forever. But LOVE is.” He glanced up a bit when he heard a howl in the air, signifying the end of the mourning period. For Amarah. Instead of the tradition’s usual five days of mourning, King Atticus had decreed that the observation of mourning for Amarah will be extended for two more days. This is because of the influx of wolves from all over the kingdom that wanted to pay their last respects to the Saville woman, who had unselfishly given her all to treat those who needed her help. And it has been seven days as well that Gabriel has been visiting his mate’s tomb and would just stand there for hours without saying anything. Gabriel heard some rustling behind and he raised his head up and waited. “Everyone’s starting to gather at the grounds,” Conrad i
Amarah stared up at the ceiling, breathing slowly and deeply. She turned weakly at the sound of the door opening and as hard it is for her, her lips raised upwards into a smile when she saw Clayton entering the room.“H-Hey,” she called out, raising her hand.Clayton immediately went to her side and clasped her hand, bringing it to his lips and kissing it gently. He sat down on the chair by the bed and looked at her lovingly, his eyes red.“You… You look beautiful,” Clayton said achingly.“Thank you,” she whispered. She coughed lightly and then took a deep breath. “Matt said… Matt said that I’m going to be okay. He told me that I just needed to rest so I can recover all the strength that I had lost.”“You shouldn’t have worked hard,” Clayton only whispered.Amarah reached for his cheek with her other hand.“I-I’m sorry,” she apologized gently. “But I did w-what I needed to do. They need my help.”Clayton clutched both of her hands gently.“W-What time is it?” She whispered softly.“It
The howling roar of rage filled the air as Clayton rushed towards Amarah, catching her in his arms before she had completely hit the ground. His eyes burned with anger and fear as blood started to soak her clothing.Conrad, shocked at what had just happened turned towards the direction and when he saw Anthony Madison, with a triumphant smile on his face, transformed immediately to Magnus and lunged towards him, pinning him on the ground and another fight had ensued. The pack members vacated the area, pulling away any injured warriors. They could hear Magnus growling and tearing the enemy apart and a few minutes later, several Gamma warriors had joined him.“Amarah!” Clayton yelled as he reached for the dagger, which he knew for sure has been dipped in Wolfsbane. “No! No! No!”“Clayton, don’t pull it out!” Jacklyn yelled as she knelt beside him. “Let me do it!”“Stay awake, Amarah,” Clayton stated over and over again as he adjusted his position so that Amarah is lying straight in his a
Clayton watched grimly as the fire consumed the dead bodies of all rogues, the orange flames snaking all over the bodies and omitting the smell of burnt skin, hair and blood. He looked up as three more bodies were added to the pile.“Are the bodies of Fullerton and Madison found?” Clayton asked hardly.“Not yet,” Liam answered. “Gab and the Quartermasters are doing the search as well. If they’re still alive, they will immediately eliminate them.”“Their actions just showed the cowardice in them,” Clayton barked angrily. He turned to his left and looked down at Conrad, leaning on a tree and panting heavily as Bradley and Jacob are tying up a clothing around his stomach. “We need to get you back home.”“I’m alright,” Conrad assured him as he finally stood up. He thumped Clayton on the back. “We need to make sure that those two are dead. We cannot be complacent.”“You were good out there,” Clayton commented seriously. “Seems your five years away from here seemed to have made your skills
Amarah opened her tired and heavy eyes when she heard a howl, more like a battle cry in the air. She immediately sat up straight and then stood up immediately when another sound came. She rushed out the office she occupied to rest for a while, her heart pounding.“What’s happening?!” She demanded loudly as she saw the wolves in the center that are strong enough to check, crowding towards the entrance of the building. She pushed her way in the crowd, her eyes straining to see what they are all looking at. “What’s going out there? Is it Clayton? Please don’t tell me it’s him!”When she finally made her way at front, she saw Matt together with Mr. and Mrs. Langston, several steps outside and looking towards one direction, his face grim. Something caught Amarah’s nose and she looked up to see dark, clouds of smoke filling the air as well as hues of dark yellow and orange.Dead bodies, she thought immediately as the sky turned more darker as the fire from afar is getting bigger and spreadi
Clayton transformed back into his human self after Kragen mercilessly ended the life of the rogue that launched at him a few minutes ago. He grabbed his dagger from the ground and immediately hurled it towards the rogue who is sneaking behind Liam.Liam turned and nodded at him thankfully as he pulled the dagger from the rogue’s head, kicking him back to the ground immediately. He handed the weapon back to Clayton.“The Saville’s had broken their inner defense circle,” Liam mentioned to him as they both thwarted a pack of rogues lunging towards them. He spit on the dead body of one. “Bradley was sent to the center a few minutes ago to have the wound on his side tended.”The battle had spread out all over the land as Clayton’s allied packs took each rogue packs to different directions to weaken the defense. He looked onwards and saw Ian Fullerton and his Beta, moving back and allowing the rogues to attack head on.“Cowards!!!” Clayton yelled at them loudly.Anthony Madison heard his sc
