Violette POV“Violette, your tone.” He growled lightly. I knew I was pushing it, but I was livid with him. “Yes, Master. I’m sorry.” I said. I didn’t mean it though. I was not meant to be a slave. I hated him with my entire being.. he’s nothing but a monster like his Father. He’s punishing me for speaking up against a man who was trying to seduce me? Is that not just laughable? “You’re really bad at being a slave. You do realize that right? If I were anyone else you would be dead.” He said. So why the hell haven’t you killed me then? I wanted so badly to attack him and hurt him.. but I knew I would be no match for him. “Yes, Master. I will try to do better.” I said. Somehow I would find a way out of this place. And I would find my mate and we would run away. Until then, I just need to avoid being broken in. “Come here.” He growled. I slowly walked across his office where he was sitting at his desk. I stopped at the front of his desk and looked at him warily. “Closer. And take off
Violette POV It’s been a few days since I got punished by the King. My bottom isn’t as sore, with Lillian's healing paste it seems to be doing great. Even with the silver collar keeping me from shifting along with the daily wolfsbane.. I’m healing pretty well. “The King permitted for you to pick how you get your wolfsbane today, miss.” Ms. Beatrice said. She held in front of me a metal tray. On the left was a syringe, which is what I’ve been getting. I’ve always had a fear of them so the cup of wolfsbane-soaked water on the right looked much more appealing to me. “I shall drink it,” I said and reached for the cup. When the smell hit my nose I swear my nose hairs burned as well as my sinuses and lungs. “That’s goddess-awful.” I groaned. “Ahh, just be quick about it. Might not be so bad.” She said. I cocked an eyebrow at her and chuckled.“Sorry.. I don’t think I’ve ever taken wolfsbane.” She said. My Father made me take daily doses. At first, they were small, then we gradually bu
Violette POV “I-I.. I’m sorry, Master. I know it must be a hard day for you.” I said in a low voice. My eyes met his deadly ones.. butterflies erupted in my stomach and I quickly looked away. “It is indeed.” He growled. He believes my Father did it.. and now.. I don’t even know what I believe. I just know that important lives were lost in this war between our families. And it started with the death of his younger brother. I’m an only child, I couldn’t imagine having younger siblings. Let alone to lose them. So I couldn’t even imagine what pain he feels when they cross his mind. If it was anything like losing a mother.. It almost for a moment made me feel horrible. Until I remembered that his Father is the one who killed my Mother.. “Did your Father ever talk about that day?” He asked. I could tell he was on the verge of hurting me.. I needed to be very careful in what I say. I tried to think back.. but the only time I can think of my Father mentioning it is when he got accused. I
Violette POV “Have you finished with the linens?” Ms. Beatrice asked. “Yes, ma’am. I’ve finished all of my duties.” I said. She eyes me suspiciously but it was no lie. I’ve finished everything. “You may join Lillian in the gardens, then.” She finally nodded her head. She’s done this to me every day. I believe I’ve actually caught her trying to see for herself whether it’s actually me cleaning or someone else. She was watching me from a doorway, just examining me as I cleaned. When I turned around she tried to hide herself but I had already seen her. I thought it was funny and smiled before going right back to work. Now today, I’ve found her following me around everywhere I go. “Thank you, Ms. Beatrice.” I gave her a soft smile and quickly took off. I walked down the hall and quickly turned a corner, accidentally bumping into something hard and warm. Please, no. I squeezed my eyes shut and braced myself to be hit because I knew immediately who it was. His scent hit me like a tr
Violette POV “The king requests you in his chambers.” Ms. Beatrice said. I sighed heavily and stood up. I’d done well these last few days, only just bumping into him yesterday. I wonder if he was angry about it. “Yes, ma’am. Should I head off to clean myself first?” I asked. I dusted off my servants gown, it’s clean.. I’ve just been cleaning in it so I smell heavily of chemicals. “No, he requests you immediately.” She said. I nodded my head and began making my way there. I’d come to remember the layout of the castle quite well in these recent weeks. I found the best spots with the best views, the spot with the most sunlight, and the spot with the least people.. If the people weren’t so awful, this could’ve been a place I enjoyed. I haven’t felt many pains recently. Which has made my days brighter than ever. Though, when I do have them, they’re breathtakingly painful.. Ms. Beatrice has yet to find out what’s causing it, but she feels like she’s getting close to something and that
Violette POV “There’s a Sylvia here to see you.” Ms. Beatrice said. I jumped off the bed excitedly and made my way toward her. I couldn’t wait to see Sylvia.. it has been far too long. I was used to seeing her every day. She stepped aside and that’s when I saw Sylvia. My heart felt a million times lighter when she gave me a bright smile. She truly is okay! I could t believe my eyes, so I blinked a few times but there she continued to stand. Right in front of me. “Oh, Princess! You look amazing! Have they been nice to you? I didn’t know what happened to you.. they took me..” she ran toward me and wrapped her arms around me tightly. “I.. I asked them to. I couldn’t leave you there.. not while his men were still killing ours.” A tear fell down my face. I couldn’t let her get hurt again. I beat myself up until Lillian came, wondering if I’d made the right decision to have them bring Sylvia. “I’ve been staying at the orphanage. The headmistress is wonderful! She is so kind to me, Princ
Violette POV “Dear Goddess, Violette! You’re burning up!” Sylvia’s voice was shaky and loud. “Already? She wasn’t running a fever just a few minutes ago. Alright, Violette. Take this, it’s stronger than the other mixture I gave you.” Ms. Beatrice said. She handed me a cup of hot liquid. I swear to the Moon Goddess the smell of it singed my nose hairs. I quickly chugged the contents. It burned my throat with a force and made me choke out. Lillian placed her hand on my stomach to console me, but I writhed in pain at her touch. My stomach is on fire. “What’s wrong?” Ms. Beatrice asked. She lifted up my dress and gasped loudly. Lillian looked and then her face turned white from whatever she was seeing. “Goddess.. why is she so bruised?” Sylvia asked. “Bruised? What do you mean?” I asked as I tried to move to see. I fell backward in pain. What is wrong with me? “Give me a moment.. I think.. I think I might know exactly what this is. I’ve only seen it one other time.” Ms. Beatrice qui
Viktor POV “Minerva, you may go,” I said. She looked at me with a sad expression on her face. “But.. but I just got back. I was hoping we could spend the day together.” She said. I shook my head. “I have business to take care of,” I said. “What? Like your slave?” She growled. My eyes met hers and I snarled. “You have no business speaking of my slave.” I snapped. “Viktor.. we’ve been best friends for years. Before you were.. captured.. we talked about killing that girl almost every day. Why haven’t you done it already? Why do you treat her so..” I cut her off. “So.. what? She’s a slave. I don’t treat her like anything but that. Not that it’s any of your concern.. she’s not your slave. She’s mine.” I said. “Have you even broken her in? I see her walking around all the time with a smile on her face. From what I can tell you don’t treat her like a slave. I mean.. you allow her to speak to others!” She snapped. “Who have you seen her talking to?” I growled. “That girl.. and the
